IMO, the best bike shop in the area. I live in Loveland, but this is where I come for everything cycling. They fixed my bike that I bought at a Loveland shop (it had some problems related, in my opinion, to a bad build). Repair / mechanics services here are good, but they do get very backed up in peak season. I liked them so much that I came to Bishop's to buy a bike for my 7 year old, passing up some cheaper options (Dick's, Target, etc). Sales and fit process was very good. That was a great buy (it's a Jamis); that bike is a high quality item and has been trouble-free despite a lot of use. When my daughter outgrows it, it will have several other owners before it is done. They specialize in Jamis (not exactly a household name but I'd recommend checking them out), Felt, and Bianchi. Location is convenient; they are in downtown Milford but only 2 minutes from the Little Miami Bike Trail. Getting a street parking spot right in front of the shop has never been a problem. It pains me to say this, because I'm a long-time customer. But both the merchandise and the service have declined significantly over the years to the point that I will never be going back and recommend no one else do either. Back in March, I had a tube replaced that within a couple of weeks had blown. The good thing is, since this kept happening with them, it finally taught me how to replace my own tubes. The other good thing is that I could see how cheap the Bishop's tube was quality wise compared to the tube I bought for myself on Amazon. The other good thing is that on Amazon, I also found a great digital tire gauge/pump on Amazon to help take care of future issues. I immediately realized that one source of my tube blowouts was that the rather handsomely priced tire pump/gauge I had bought at Bishops years earlier was defective/inaccurate. So my bad for over-inflating. But their bad for selling crappy merchandise at inflated bike store prices. More recently, the crank on my bike broke (left pedal fell off as the hardware gave way). Not easy getting back five miles on one pedal, but did, and took it to Bishops for repair. They replaced the crank. Less than a month later, the left crank shaft falls off, again while I'm on the bike trail. This time at least I was able to screw it back in, since I had the necessary hex tool kit and the hardware wasn't completely broken. It was still making a grinding sound, which it had done before the failure. I took it back and told them I expected it to be repaired properly. The woman said the service manager would take a look. I still haven't heard back a few hours later. But after giving them until tomorrow morning, I'll go collect the bike one way or the other, take it Montgomery Cyclery, and deal with refund issues through other channels. Regardless, my days of doing business with Bishops are over forever. This saddens me, because it is a longstanding institution, oldest continuous operating bike shop in the U.S. But, hey, I'd stop doing business with the Wright Brothers if they kept continuously messing me over as well. I recently got back into cycling after a hiatus and purchased a used hybrid bike that no longer shifted properly. I had used Bishops in the past, and since I work in Milford, I dropped the bike off and was told they would do a tune up, and remove and clean the trigger shifters/replace cables and that would solve the problem. 2 weeks and 180 dollars later, I pick the bike up on my way home and go out riding the next day. The shifters still did not work. Thumb triggers just went to nowhere when pushed. Called and they said to bring it back up. I pointed out to the tech that judging from the dust around the assembly, it had never been removed from the bike. He looked at my ticket and told me they would take care of it. Surprisingly the next day they called (Saturday) and I again picked up the bike on my lunch break. No apology, but they said if they didn't work that we could replace the shifters. Uhm. didn't they test them? Next morning I go riding. The shifters are working! But... they were put on in such a way I couldn't get my fingers into the top trigger by sliding as they were too close to the brake. And on top of that, there was a sticky substance on the bike seat. I wasn't paying much attention and wasn't too concerned, but when I sat down I found I literally became glued to the seat. When I got off the bike, the top layer of rubber came off and stuck to my pants. The seat was ruined. It was an old cheap seat. I didn't really care, but what an inconvenience. Stuck it back in my hatchback and it sat there until they opened Tues morning. I wheeled the bike in, and asked to speak to someone about my experience. The young female tech promptly adjusted the triggers. I calmly told them about my seat. I explained that this was my third time back and expressed concerns about the quality control there. How does a bike leave the shop without the main issue being fixed, then with shifters assembled so that they are unusable? I asked them how I could trust that I actually got the "tune up" services that I paid for. I pointed out that little things, like my downturned front reflector, weren't even properly adjusted during the safety tune up (aren't they supposed to go over everything?) and that if they couldn't be bothered to take the time to do that, how was I supposed to have confidence in the other tune up services and adjustments? The three employees just stared at me. No apologies. No reassurances. Silence. Until one guy said only this "we didn't spill anything on your seat." Ok, I said. But it wasn't like that when I sat on it last time and it was only here and the back of my car... They continued to just stare at me. No offer to help me find and purchase a new seat, no apologies for my three trips, no rebuttals to my quality control concerns, no offer of compensation for my hassles. Ok, I say, I just wanted to let you know I'm not happy with the service. I slowly turned my bike around and went out. The entire experience was unbelievable. This shop seems to have serious issues with quality control, customer service, and overall accountability. I'm so disappointed. Bishops when my pal Chris L. used to work there was a high quality establishment and it's a shame it's gone so downhill. Please if you come here, check their work in the parking lot. If I'd not gone off site the two times I picked up the bike and test rode it, I would have avoided a lot of hassle and their calling me a liar about a 10 dollar seat. read more

I have used Bishop's Bicycles to upgrade and repair two ebikes that I did not purchase from them. Their service has been prompt both times, priced fair and quality workmanship. Because of this incredible service, we are now looking at buying an ebike for my wife from Bishop's. These people are very knowledgeable about bikes of all type. AVOID THIS BIKE SHOP!!!, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! This IS the WORST bicycle shop in the Cincinnati Area. I have bought 2 bikes there and multiple accessories. Tried to get bike serviced. They have had my bike over 2 weeks and told me it wasn't finished. The owner, Stuart would even come to the phone. The manager, Greg tried to blame me for the delay. Then he promised it would be done by later that day. Nope, they still haven't finished it. When I finally got my bike back after an argument with the manager about how long it took, he stated they will NOT GIVE WARRANTY ON THEIR SERVICE. They are good only when they want to take your money but forget any type of customer service. I want to support local shops, but this kind of treatment is TERRIBLE. Took it to another shop whom I will not name. After the 1st ride a spoke fell out it was so loose, and I was feeling flex/play in the rear. Took it back to that unnamed shop, and they stated the wheel was running true and it must be bent which is why the other spokes were loose.... ITS CARBON. Took it to Bishop's with one day to spare and told them my situation and that I needed it back ASAP to get on the road in the morning. They had it done by 4 on the same day! The wheel runs perfectly true and each spoke is perfectly tensioned, I checked myself ;) Thank you Bishop's Bike, you have made a lifetime customer. read more

I was on the bike trail with a group of 9 other bikers doing the full OTET from Cleveland and stopped in the shop to see what they offered and for a restroom break. It was a very hot day. I find it very intriguing that every other place we stopped along the trail was able to fill water bottles for us or had faucets, but this bike shop did not. We were in need of some supplies and repairs but due to the worker telling us "you can buy some from the cooler" rudely, we decided to take our business elsewhere. We aren't picky, we would have used a hose if available. It's just sad to see the lack of community support, all for the price of filling a water bottle. read more

2 different bike shops; 2 very different experiences: So it's a strange time for everyone. No disrespect to Smitty's but I thought this was interesting. I stopped by Smitty's (closer to my house) and offered to pay them to swap out one bike seat for another. I'm kinda handy in general but I don't know what it is about bike seats - I always screw something up so I defer to the experts. I thought it would be easier for everyone involved if I simply brought in the stem with the existing seat still attached along with the new seat. I was told by the woman at Smitty's that I'd have to drive back home and retrieve the entire bicycle. ??? Okay, so I called Bishop's and they said no problem - bring it on in. In fact, not only did they not mind that the seat and stem were detached from the bike, they also did the job Johnny-on-the-spot. Oh, and guess what else? They didn't charge me a dime! So to summarize: had I followed orders from Smitty's I would have driven back home, climbed the 25 steps up to my basement to retrieve my bike, reinstall the stem, carry the bike back down those same 25 steps, load the bike back in the truck, drive back to Smitty's, fill out a work order, leave the bike overnight, come back and pick it up the next day or two, and pay for it. Or, I could have had this amazing customer service experience at Bishop's. Which would you prefer? I love this place. I will cruise right on by Smitty's and everyone else and drive the extra 20 minutes to Bishop's from now on. read more

I love Bishops and drive from Montgomery to go there because they do excellent maintenance and repair on my 1992 mountain bike always for a reasonable price. The employees have always been very friendly to boot. In looking around the shop while waiting, is see it is stocked with some really cool bikes and if I ever give up on my LL Bean purchased cannondale made in the USA frame, this would be where. The shop is also situated in beautiful historic Milford with a nice coffee shop across the street she antique stores all over so if you have a wait you can enjoy the areas. Not to mention that it is right off the bike trail. This is totally worth the drive from Montgomery so I do not get ripped off at their exorbitant competitor that resides in the overpriced downtown of my own City. read more

Very disappointed. Damage was done to my bicycle during service to my bicycle due to complete negligence. At first I thought they were going to make amends but now they do not want to work to make it right at all. I have spent over 3000 dollars in this shop within the past year. I made my way into my third bike shop in a week, this time Bishop's Bicycles in Milford. Bishop's was founded in 1890 and has been serving cyclists for over 117 years now, although it hasn't all been at the Milford location. After seeing the Montgomery location of Montgomery Cyclery and Loveland's Cycle Sport it is easy to compare and contrast the shops. Like Montgomery Cyclery and Cycle Sport, Bishop's has a lot of bicycles, but many different brands. I saw a lot of Jamis, Schwin, and Fuji, while the store is also an authorized dealer of GT, SE, and Sun bikes. One thing I noticed was that Bishop's had a lot of children's bicycles, even for toddlers, more than Cycle Sport for sure. They also had the standard accessories including pedals and helmets, but I saw less clothing than at the other stores. Bishop's has a service center too in the back, where they offer basic tune-ups for $45, complete overhauls for $95, and wheel truing for $10 and up per wheel. One thing that Bishop's offers that I don't believe the other two do is bike rentals, while they also have a wide variety of bikes including mountain and "trail" bikes, some of which are on their basement-level floor. Like the other two stores, the staff is knowledgeable and very willing to help, making Bishop's a very good store as well. They also have a bulletin board with all kinds of flyers of local cycling events and opportunities, including the store's own junior cycling team. read more

While training for a Century Ride, I found myself in Cincinnati for a few days and needed to keep up with my training schedule. I have never been more impressed by a bike shop. When I arrived, the size road bike I was expecting they did not have in stock, so they came up with an alternative solution that blew me away. They took plenty of time to make sure the rental bike was in perfect working order, including making sure it was sized appropriately for me. When I came back from my 75 miler about 5 hours later they still remembered my name. If you get this level of service for a $30 rental, I can only imagine what you might expect with a purchase. If you find yourself in Cincinnati needing a bike, this is the place to go. read more

When they switched to new ownership about a year ago, their desire to make deals on purchase prices declined, but their overall service has remained high. My general feeling is that they are nice people who generally know what they are talking about, and are willing to be helpful. It feels good to support a smaller, family run neighborhood business. They do a good job when they work on your bike and are willing to put the time in necessary to talk you through everything. They don't have the largest selection or the lowest prices, but they do have some of the best customer service that is surely behind their apparent strong customer loyalty.. read more

They offered a great selection of parts, distinguished what was needed and what was cosmetic, and quickly got us on our way. The price was reasonable for the work done, the staff was awesome. I recently shopped Performance, BioWheel, Trek and Bishop's... All great shops, all have great bikes... BioWheel was awesome, they were out of stock on the bike I wanted to test ride however instead expecting me to wait, the owner give me another store to shop that day, Bishop's. Bishop's was awesome and spoke highly of BioWheel too! That's why it should come as no surprise that I gave this shop 5-Stars! I mean it was great these shops are both locally owned and they work together not against each other... It wasn't that Trek or Performance were bad shops, but these two shops showed me a side of business you rarely see... They are passionate about bicycling, the riders and loyal to one another... That made it a easy choice for me to lean toward the Jamis vs the Trek, the bikes were equal to me in how they felt, the stores were both great, the price was higher at Trek and the service was 5-Star at Bishop, so it was a no brainer! Both Jason and Chris spent time with at Bishop... Chris is the real deal to say the least... Not only did he fit me for my bike, he went out and rode along side me to see that the bike was truly the right fit... After some adjustments he suggested a different frame, I was shocked with the change... I was still thinking Trek in my mind because the ride was different, however the frame on the Jamis was simply not the right size... Going up an inch and to a men's frame, I was in heaven on the second ride out.... That day I left with a Jamis Coda Sport, the men's frame and road that bad boy as soon as I got home! I shopped for weeks and was so torn on which bike to get, I am so excited to have the perfect bike for my person! I have found my love for cycling again... I struggled with reviews and understanding bikes so having someone give me the attention I needed on the bike(s) was the best! Thank you Chris!!! I wish I could give this lower than one star. Bishop's used to be a great place, full of nice workers. Now the new owner is a jerk. They overcharge you to do a crap job on your bike. They treat you absolutely rude. Please take your business elsewhere. You will wait several months for a crappy job that will leave your bike just as bad as before. I generally don't take the time to write reviews, but Bishop's bicycles treated my father so poorly that I feel I have no other choice. My father has Guillain-Barré syndrome which left him in a wheelchair and with limited use of his hands. He went to Bishop's bicycles to order new tires for his wheelchair and new tires for my grandmother's bicycle. When he picked up the tires, the store owner told him that it would cost 2x more than it would to install bike tires, to install the tires on his wheelchair. When he explained that he thought it was $5 dollars per wheel and was happy to pay, the woman told him that wheelchairs were a pain to work on. He explained that his wheelchair had a single bolt design that made changing the wheels extremely easy, but because of his disability he could not do it himself. The woman, who told him 'don't bother complaining', refused to help him unless he paid her $10 a tire. In my opinion, this is a poorly run business that operates without ethical guidelines. After we fixed a flat tire on our tandem tricycle, we found ourselves stranded on the bike trail with a misaligned disc brake. Within minutes the very expert repair specialist isolated and repaired the problem. Minimal charge. We'll be back for services in the future! read more

I've taken my bike here for repair several times, usually for issues that arise while I'm on the trail. They are very helpful and not pushy in any way. Their prices are very reasonable, and they always look for a used part for me to keep the cost down. Multiple times they've fixed my bike in under s half hour and I was able to get back out on the trail. Can't say enough about how great they are. Skip the chain store and get your bike worked on here. They also carry an extensive range of bikes and gear. read more
