The bike fitting service was great. I'm fairly new to cycling world and for me it was definitely worth the cost. It started with a warm-up on Zwift which was fun, then lead into getting on the fit bike to take measurements. Afterwards once the fit was setup Mitch dialed the bike I brought in, in. I have had the pleasure of having two Retul bike fits performed by Mitch. One on my TT bike heading into Ironman training and one much more recently on a road bike and both have changed my cycling life! Mitch took his time asking questions about my goals and any discomfort/pain I was experiencing and then took a look at any muscle imbalances before getting to the fit. I had been battling some lingering foot and lower leg pain that Mitch recommended could be improved by getting some custom insoles for my shoes. I was apprehensive initially, mainly due to cost, but oh my gosh they are the best thing I have ever spent money on. Will never cycle without them. Overall I just can not recommend this shop enough. Best bike shop in the area, and the best customer service. I was traveling to Cincinnati for a week and looking for a road bike to rent. I called 4-5 different shops; most other places offered hybrid bikes only, or didn't know what kind of bikes they rented (I know, I thought that was weird too). For sure, no one at any shop I spoke to was as helpful or knowledgeable as Mitch. Though Biowheels doesn't usually do rentals, Mitch was able to work something out for me and get me set up with the exact same bike I ride at home for a fair price. I was able to provide him with my fit info beforehand and he had the bike set up precisely to my specs when I got there, with everything I needed, down to the saddle bag. The whole process was incredibly easy and friendly. On top of that, Mitch even called around to find me group rides that matched my ability. You go to a bike shop for knowledgeable help and service. My wife bought a new bike from BioWheels and in talking with Mitch he suggested that I start riding her old bike which was a huge step up from my old bike. I was really happy with my service at Biowheels in Madeira, OH. I was travelling into Cincinnati to attend a triathlon training camp, and didn't have a bike shop connection there. I called in advance and requested an appointment for a "day-of" bike assembly and tune, from an airline box. The owner, Mitch, was happy to oblige. When I arrived, the staff was immediately able to help me and had my bike assembled and tuned in one hour. (This would NEVER happen in CA) They even replaced my thrashed chain for me. This place has fixed my CX bike quickly and has provided useful suggestions on improving my bike based upon my requests. Fantastic bike shop, especially for anyone stepping up beyond basic/beginner mode. I was fully prepared to spend midlife crisis money on a higher end bike, but Mitch talked me down in order to shuffle some of that money beneficial upgrades (wheels, saddle). What really has blown me away is the focus on fitting--he spent more than an hour swapping out stem, adjusting bars and saddle to make sure the bike and I were in synch. I rode on that setup for 5 years with no discomfort at all. I recently went back for an intense Retul fitting. I highly recommend this, though it's not inexpensive. In addition to the fitting labor charge, expect to pony up for some accessories to improve the fit. This was in no way an "upsell" move--the process identified multiple areas where I was not exactly optimal, and they can't all be resolved by moving parts around. For example, there's nothing the bike can do about the fact that one of my legs is 1/2" longer than the other, but there are shims that can be applied to my cleats to compensate for this. The process doesn't even start out on a bike--I spent about 15 minutes going through various flexibility exercises to determine what's appropriate for me, not just someone with similar height/weight metrics. The technology of the fitting and the package is really impressive--I've got video from multiple cameras, before/after metrics, and the data can be transferrable to help set up most other bikes I might be using. Anyone can sell you a really nice bike. Biowheels is one of the very rare places that goes beyond that, making sure they sell you the RIGHT nice bike, and that you're able to comfortably get the most out of both the bike, and yourself. I purchased a groupon for this location after reading great reviews on yelp. I went in and was fitted for a bike helmet, but the store did not have my size. The guy at the counter said no problem, we can order you one! Okay, sounds good. He takes my number, my name, and the size and type of helmet I want. This was at the end of September and I was told new orders are made at the beginning of October. So I wait a week and then I call back for an update. The employee seemed flustered and went to ask another person if the helmet was ordered. It was not ordered. He then gives me his word that he will place a message for the manager to order the helmet as soon as he returns from a ride. Okay, everyone gets one. I wait another week, no calls. I call back and ask about the helmet. They have forgotten to order my helmet yet again! Better yet, I am told the specific helmet I wanted is now discontinued, but there is a similar brand and model. Fine, I order that one. I ask the price difference. It's around five dollars more expensive. I make it very apparent that I'm trying to goad the employee into waving the five dollar additional fee from common courtesy, seeing as how they have forgotten about me on two separate occasions. Three weeks after I have "ordered" the helmet, I receive a call from Biowheels. I go to the store to pick up the helmet and I make my displeasure known. I receive a very weak apology, no discount, no statement from the manager about the unprofessional way it was handled. It's very apparent this place has enough customers and they don't need me to return. I will be telling everyone I know that they should not use this bike store. You can mess up, we are all human, but own up to it. Offer something to show you actually care about the inconvenience. I would have been fine with waiving the additional cost between the two helmets, even 10% off. Heck, I would have enjoyed a genuine apology. I missed some great riding weather waiting for that helmet. read more
