Pros of Cincinnati Red Bikes is they have good locations and also numerous locations to rent a bike.. For the most part ebikes were charged and in working condition. Cons, getting a working touch screen was challenging. On Memorial Day!! no one was available to help. If you are riding solo, not such a big deal. I had my 3 grand daughters with me. The chaos trying to get 4 bikes was so irritating they wanted to just ride back home and quit rather than go through this every couple of hours. Permanently setting e-bikes to Turbo in a city with lots of traffic is insane. I have bad knees for walking but with e-bike assist it is much easier to be mobile. I was very disappointed in my week of biking with my grand daughters. read more

Red Bike is a great way to get around Cincy. If you live here, for me at least, the daily rates seem too high. However, the yearly membership? Perfect. It's $100 per year for unlimited one hour bike rides (Honestly, i typically only use them for transit and have never had one out longer than 20ish minutes at a time (It's shocking how quick it is to get around on a bike in the city). I live in Covington and will grab one in Mainstrasse and can be downtown in nearly the same amount of time it takes to drive and find parking for a car. I really love their electric bikes as well. Though be warned, once you've taken out one of the electric bikes you will be spoiled. Sometimes the batteries will be dead on them so be sure to check the battery life before you take it out. Be careful when riding, especially over streetcar tracks. Your wheel falling in the track WILL result with you on the ground (self-proven). I do wish there were more stations in NKY in residential areas. Overall, I love Redbike and can't wait for warmer weather to ride again more! read more

Modeled on tried and thriving bike-sharing programs in countless urban centers across the US, Cincinnati now has a bike-share! Download their app called "BCycle" or "BCycle-Now" and you can pull up the 'Cincy Red Bike' location, and it will give a map of the Cincy area and the various Red Bike stations throughout the city. You can click on each station location and it will tell you how many bikes are available, and how many empty slots are available as well. Honestly, I'd never bike-shared before a couple weeks ago in Chicago, but it's a great program. Well maintained bicycles with front and back baskets to carry groceries, etc. they have 3 gears you switch with a flip of the wrist(akin to "revving" a motorcycle). (in Cincinnati) you are allotted 1 hour of use. Many cities it is 1/2 hour. If you have to travel more than 30 minutes, you have to find a station and swap bikes along the way. In Cincy, with a 1 hour time limit, you can pretty much go anywhere in 'the basin' of downtown without worry. The time limits are there so that people don't get a bike and just leave it while they go shopping. It's to have frequet available bikes all over. $8 will give you unlimited check-outs of bikes for 24 hours, and yearly passes are available for $80. You use a credit card to check a bike out, and when you go to get another bike within that 24, you swipe your card again for it to recognize you. Well, look at that, downtown Cincinnati snuck in a progressively minded transportation option, and very little was said from the suburbs!! read more

Happy to have the Red Bike in Cincinnati. It is a great and affordable way to get from A to B. There are plenty of stations downtown and they introduced the electric bikes at the same price as other bikes, which is great. I used it several times and the day lass was 10$ for unlimited 2h rides, which means that every 2h you need to check the bike in and you can check right out if you need it longer. My only complaint is the connectivity issue with some stations. Some stations can go off the network without any notification and it is very hard to reach someone on the help line. It happened that I check the bike in and wanted to check right out, but then noticed that the terminal at the station was not working and the station went grey=not in service on the app, so had to walk to another station and then the app still thought I had a previous bike. It was a hassle. If they solve these kinds of issues, I can see myself using these bikes quite often. read more

I love red bike. It's perfect for any time you don't want to have to deal with traffic or crowds. I highly recommend this franchise consider expanding south. You don't have to be in a big city to not want to deal with rush-hour, or accidents on the main roads. read more

I actually have a monthly membership and considering cancelling bc the bikes have really fallen off the rails. 9/10 bikes have zero locks so it's harder to really enjoy a nice day with the bike and 9 times out of 10 the bike isn't working after 9pm. It's a big disappointment when I pay a monthly fee on the bikes and I don't get my money worth on these. I'll be cancelling it and just opting to pay when it's necessary bc this is not it right now. read more

This is a great way to get out and see the city. There are plenty of stations through downtown and OTR, making it easy stop or start from almost anywhere in the urban core. I always do the $8 hourly price. As long as you check the bike into any station every hour, you'll avoid having to pay the additional $4 for an additional 30 minutes. Ladies and Gentleman, the bike share has arrived! I love this system and have used it multiple times in other cities in U.S. and in Europe. It is the most fun, efficient and healthy way to sightsee! There is nothing more convenient than visitting city by bike! So happy we have those beautiful red bikes here! In order to use the bike, the initial membership fee is required and currently it is 8 dollar for 24 hour access and around 80 for a year. Unfortunately, there are no other options, which is a huge pity, as 3 or 7 day passes would be helpful. The fees must be paid by credit card, to secure deposit in case you do not return or damage the bike. One hour ride is free. That means if you put your bike back to any station in the city within 60 min. from check out, you only pay the membership fee. You can put the bike back and take another one for another free hour. IF you keep the bike for longer, additional fees will apply, and they are quite steep. The longer you keep the bike, the more you will pay. This system is designed for short rides and sharing the bikes rather than keeping one bike for the whole day with you. It works for getting from point A to B, not necessarily for a half day leisure ride. The stations are strategically located in front of landmarks and points of interest, and 60 minutes free is very generous, as most cities have 30 min free limit. It is a great addition to public transportation! The bike stations are nicely spread through downtown, riverfront and OTR. The app is very helpful to locate the stations. Bikes are brand new, convenient and of good quality. If you prefer longer rides, try bike rentals at Sawyer Point or OTR. read more

They advertise their customer service number of 513-621-245, but notice that there are only 9 digits, not 10 digits like a standard phone number throughout the rest of America. What a fun way to get around town! We did this on the first really nice Spring day and, since it's so new, we had no problem getting a bike and parking at any of the locations. A few things to know/watch out for: 1. The first place we tried to rent, the kiosk wouldn't take our credit card. We tried about 10 times before we realized "it's them, not us". When you don't know what you are doing, it's hard to figure that out! The good news is, there are locations all over so it was only a couple blocks walk to find another and it was smooth sailing from there. 2. That sign that says "watch out for the street car rails"? They're not kidding! I'm a cyclist and I almost bit it. They are dangerous. They're going to need more signs. 3. To that end, I'm familiar with how to ride on the road with cars. I'm a little concerned about those who are not cruising through downtown. People are going to have to get used to this. 4. It isn't really very clear how you check out a bike a second time. In theory, it's really simple. You return the bike to a station and, when you're ready to go again, you start over like you're checking out for the first time, using the same credit card, and the kiosk recognizes that you've rented that same day and starts your time again. That's the theory. The reality is, it doesn't tell you that the first time you rent and it isn't very well explained anywhere on the kiosk so you kind of stand there like a fool and think "Well I guess I'll put my card in here again and if it charges me a second time, lesson learned!" The system gives you the option to get a text tracking the amount of time you've had the bikes out. It would be nice to include basic instructions on returning and re-renting in that text. Once you've done it once, you get it but for a beginner, it would be nice to have it explained. (You're welcome.) 5. The bikes have locks in case you want to park the somewhere besides one of the stations but, much like the second rental, the locks are a little confusing. I know, it's a bike lock, how confusing can it be? A little! A diagram somewhere on the bike would be helpful. 6. And finally, how about a station outside Rhinegeist? :) It was fun and I hope it catches on this summer but, for goodness sake people, be careful! Biking and drinking may seem like a good idea but those street car rails can bite ya. read more

You really have to be in the Pee Wee Herman frame of mind to enjoy this. The bikes are horrible three speeds that will kill you on the hills of Cincinnati. In my case Clifton Ave. I have ridden a mountain bike since 92 and I have never been so exhausted as on this tank like bike. Then the rules tell you not to use a sidewalk like they are traffic worthy. The pick and return system is ok but over the long run this is too expensive. The station locations are pretty convenient and there are always bikes available. The bikes are easily adjustable to different heights. However, the steering is pretty shoddy (more body leaning) and there are only 3 gears. If you stay away from the hills you should definitely have a good time with the bikes. read more
