I think three stars is pretty fair. It wasn't absolutely amazing but it wasn't terrible either. I like the fact that it's right next to the river that was great! As far as the room goes, it was cool, there was a step down that was missing tiles and seemed like a safety issue and our back screen door wasn't even on the tracks, the tv wasn't connected to the internet either. We were originally charged twice for our stay of 2 nights and that was super inconvenient, I tried calling the front desk about and it and they were helpful and told me that if it goes through than to give them a call and the manager would help. I called them twice and was told that the manager would call me back and assist. Not once did I receive a phone call from any manager. Still double charged and I've heard nothing. At this point I don't even care about the charge, it's more annoying that no one followed through with a huge guest issue! Please do better. read more

Unfortunately the recent remodel did not go well. Have stayed here multiple times prior to the recent remodel and it's always been a good experience. The remodel have left a terrible chemical smell in the rooms, supposedly due to wood tarnish on the furniture!!!! Most of the furniture is mediocre laminate hotel furniture with the exception of a natural wood side table that doesn't even fit in. It's very apparent that this is a local manufacturing job with lots of chemicals and wood tarnishing involved. Why they didn't let these side tables air out properly before putting them in a 100 square foot room is unexplainable. Was offered a different room but just walking through the hall, I knew it would be the same. West Elm, Crate and Barrel, Home Goods, and Target have similar tables without the chemical experience. read more

I so wish I could recommend this place to stay. On paper there is so uch going for it... In February I came into Bend for Parents weekend at OSU-Cascades. I didn't book online, but I did check out all of the features, views and rooms. I called into reservations and spoke directly with the location. I explained that there were disabled people traveling with us and we needed a user friendly room. We wanted a room with the view that was on the website. We were promised a room in the main building and for an additional fee, the view from the website. We were assured that being in the main building would keep us near the restaurant and check in. We also discussed with the registration the need to have a table and four chairs available to eat and entertain in the room and to accommodate the four guests. We arrived at the hotel to be told there were no rooms in the main building of the hotel. The room we were assigned was two buildings away from the main one. There were no luggage carts. We get in the room, there's no lighting that lights up the entry way-and there are stairs in the room that nearly killed two of our guests; they were not expected as we were very specific about having disabled guests. We had asked at check in about menus and hotel info and were told the necessary info was in the room and it would answer all of our questions. It was NOT in the room and when we brought it up, we're told that the hotel is not responsible for what the housekeeping team does or doesn't do. We couldn't see out the slider doors very well as we checked in late-and woke up the next morning to find that our room that we paid "extra for the view" actually overlooked a dirt walking path and we couldn't see or hear the water. And as the stay progressed, we had people constantly looking through the slider into our room or talking to us through the slider. In addition, we woke up Sunday morning to find face prints on the sliding glass door looking INTO our room. Children run up and down this dirt walking path screaming at all hours day or night. Our neighbors upstairs very obviously had smaller children-that liked to run in and out and around their room. There were only two chairs in the room, no table. There were two VERY dirty chairs on the patio-but no table. We couldn't sit anywhere but the bed. That's appalling with disabled folks. We ordered room service the first night and were specific about what we wanted. No drinks were brought, the burger was raw. I tried to call and no one picked up. I sent two separate emails the first night we stayed and nothing was addressed-just some excuses and disregarded information. I kept trying to reach out. I sent more emails. No responses. We checked out after receiving an email saying contactless check out was available-just leave key in the room and at 11am a closing invoice would be emailed. I still have not received a final invoice, though my card was charged and I've requested it at least three times. We paid more than a 30% up charge for the privilege of a view, which we never received. The reservation representative flat out lied. Maintenance issues and housekeeping issues were brought to the management's attention the night we arrived and the hotel did NOTHING. Whatever you do-don't need ice. The machine is in a weird room attached to the next building that REEKS of mildew and mold. It's also not locked, which is kind of creepy. Advanced warning that the only vending machine is for soda-and it's old school cash only. We were there Friday-Sunday and housekeeping never entered our room to restock coffee, water, shampoo/incidentals that are supposed to be included or to take out the very, VERY tiny garbage can that was full the first night. The rate charged at this hotel is significantly more than many other hotels in the area and we foolishly bought into the concept that it was a more "upscale" facility that a more affordable option. I really hope that this helps other people make better decisions than we were able to and enjoy their stay better than we did. read more

It pains me to give this lovely property--located right on the Deschutes River--such a lowly YELP score. But there is a very good reason for that. Despite the very nice, scenic location, there is a lot of work to be done to pull this place together. I always request an ADA room up close to the front of the lobby to avoid a lot of excessive walking on my bad leg. Did not have one available here, unfortunately--with my 3rd party reservation. I also like having safety bars in my bathtub or shower to lessen the worry about a slip-and-fall in an unfamiliar bathroom. Yes, these are issues for us older folks who travel. However, these reasonable requests were not heeded by the Riverhouse during my visit. To make it easy to access my long-distance room, I asked for a luggage rack to roll on to make the long trek. Nope--this hotel "did not have any-and the one they did have was broken!" Not a good sign here. The closest room they had required a slippery walk outside in the rain to get to the next building--halfway down a long hall. At least the front desk took my luggage and put a bucket of ice in the room for me so I would not be burdened with that. In fact, the employees were all very nice and accommodating as much as they could be. Problems began as soon as I prepared to take a shower before bed--no bars or any kind of safety aids in the shower. I would need to climb into a bathtub with absolutely nothing to hold onto and I was not about to take a chance at getting hurt my first night on the trip. I was not able to shower for 2 days in my room. Next up: the air conditioning unit in the bed room was stuck on and I could not for the life of me get it to turn off. I wanted some heat--it was 30 degrees outside--but it was not budging. I ended up putting more clothes on and took all the big bath towels in the bathroom out to cover me and gain some warmth. I froze all night as I tossed and turned and managed to maybe get 3 hours of sleep. Plus, the lights in the bedroom did not work so I had to use my cellphone flashlight to get around in the dark. It is so sad to have to relay these service glitches that mar the reputation of such a beautiful property. The night I arrived, many Christmas parties were happening in the restaurant and the Riverhouse seems to be "the place' to host some fancy shindigs in the Bend / Redmond area. The rooms that are on the River are worth the extra price for the view and rustic ambience; otherwise you will stuck looking out on the parking lot by selecting the cheaper rooms on the other side. As I mentioned, there is a very nice restaurant on site and the walking path along the River is mighty fine. If the Riverhouse could fix up the rooms to be more accommodating to their mobility-challenged patrons and attend to the service issues that turn a night in a beautiful hotel into an un-showered, shivering, chilly mess, that would be my best advise. 3 YELP STARS. read more

This place is kind of tricky to review -- lots of pros & cons. First, it doesn't look as nice as it does on the website. It was a bit of a surprise to see it right off the highway and looking more like an older roadside motel/hotel than a resort. Maybe I'll just make a list: Pros: - Staff is great. Every staff member we came into contact with was very pleasant and helpful. - Riverview rooms are huge. Lots of room with comfy bed, nice linens, pull-out couch, desk, fridge/freezer, microwave, TV, additional sink outside the bathroom. Even a special brown makeup towel so you don't get mascara on the white towels. - View and sound of river is nice. - Bar and restaurant are attractive and have a modern ski-lodge-y feel. - Cocktails at the bar are creative and delicious. - Food is good but very, very pricey. (Pro & Con) - Dog-friendly, kind of sort-of. See Cons. Cons: - The bathtub had moldy caulking. Also it looked like the tub used to have no-slip stickers on it, and now just a bit of dirty, sticky residue. These things are so easily fixable, and it made me doubt the cleanliness of the whole place. It made it feel like we were in a dirty, cheap motel. - The decor of the rooms is very old, dark, and drab. - The entrance into the building where our rooms were located looked and smelled straight out of the 70s. That carpet needs replaced. Renovations are needed. - Dog friendly, but you aren't supposed to leave your dog in your room and there's nowhere you can take them in the hotel. The front desk said we could bring her to the pool-table area behind the bar. Our dog is small and very quiet and well-behaved, so we sat back there with our drinks, but the bartender came over and told us she couldn't be there. We are used to our dog being allowed in the bars of dog-friendly hotels. Also we had to walk long and far to find a trash can to put our dog waste in. - No room cleaning. None! They only clean after you check out. Luckily we ran into a cleaning person who gave us fresh towels. - Resort fee of $15 a day. Not sure for what. The spa is permanently closed. There was an indoor pool, but considering the bathtub situation, we didn't go near it. There were firepits outside the restaurant, but there was a pile of damp wood, no matches, and no kindling. We paid dearly for our stay, and considering we didn't even get our rooms clean this doesn't seem reasonable, but they would not remove the charge. - The initial room rate doesn't seem bad, but by the time they add on all the taxes, pet fee, and even a separate tax on the pet fee, resort fee, etc., it adds up to what should have been a much nicer hotel. In conclusion, it's not bad, but it's not good. It's OK -- but a little pricey for OK. read more

Beware when booking! Back on June 4, we decided to book a room with Riverhouse; my parents used to love this place, so I thought we'd try it for a trip we had coming up. We had a change of plans that same day, so I canceled the reservation a mere four hours after booking, well within the cancellation policy time. Imagine my surprise and dismay when I saw a charge on my debit card for $328.31 on JULY 2, nearly a month after booking and canceling! This was not even in the amount the room had originally been booked for, and I had never approved a charge. Fearing fraud, I canceled my debit card with my credit union immediately and called the Riverhouse on the Deschutes billing line. The woman who answered promised to look into the charge and get back to me within 20 minutes. She never called back. When I called the next day, I was told it was an error on Riverhouse's end that their cancelation auditor had made at the end of the month when reconciling; they apologized and said they would process a refund...within three to ten business days. I cannot describe the amount of frustration and the feelings of violation that I have experienced from this situation. I have never even stayed at this hotel, yet I have a charge on my account that has STILL not been refunded a week later. This is a charge I never approved on a card that they had no permission using a month after I was on their website. When I called to ensure they remove all history of my personal and financial information, I was assured this was done. But how I am supposed to trust this when my card was already abused in this way? I am so frustrated and still $328 short for something I never purchased. Still waiting to hear back from anyone over there from an email I sent as a follow up. Highly recommend finding somewhere else to stay. We ended up at Sunriver Resort, which was an amazing experience. read more

I had the good fortune be introduced to this hotel from an event that I attended. I felt it was a wonderful place to stay. The restaurant there (Currents) serves top tier elevated comfort food. It was a "10" in food quality and service the two nights I ate there. The restaurant occupies a beautiful space that overlooks the river with glassed in walls and has a nice bar alongside of it. The rooms are relaxing and well appointed with a large big screen, super comfortable beds and bedding. It would serve them well (imho) to upgrade their fiberglass bath shower units to match the rest of the decor, but everything was super clean and well attended to. What struck me the most about this facility was the positive and guest oriented attitudes of all of the employees who work there. They genuinely seemed to enjoy working there. Each individual I came in contact with was happy and eager to assist me as a guest. Great hotel. No idea why it is only rated 3 Stars. Kudos to Mgr Ashton and her staff as well as to the Currents chef and staff (Hayley and Miya), and Kelsey in the Conference Center. Five Star service, Five Star Hotel. . read more

A young hostess who appeared clueless deferred to the manager who said it would be five minutes. we sat and waited and waited while others who had reservations were seated. no issue with that but we were put on terminal ignore. The clueless hostess kept avoiding us and the manager never acknowledged us. I approached the manager who said others had reservations yet offered us no further wait time nor anything else. We left. Don't let the pictures fool you. In no way is this a luxury resort. It's an aging motel at resort prices. Our room did indeed have a gorgeous view of the river (that's what you're paying for). But at $250 a night I expected more than stained carpets, a lingering smell of stale cigarettes, moldy shower grout and a toilet that won't flush unless you hold down the handle. You won't get a complimentary breakfast, or even a room cleaning unless you request it, apparently. (I get that staffing shortages have curtailed services, so that's fine. I just used folded toilet paper to replace the tissues in the empty tissue box.) The restaurant is good, but also overpriced for dinner entrees. I ended up skipping breakfast the next morning when the hostess sat me at a dark, drafty table next to the kitchen, which was blaring music. When I asked if I could sit at one of the many empty tables near the window, she said no because they were seating according to server stations. Fine, but why not move the station where guests could look out over the river? I felt so unwelcome I ended up going to a local restaurant, which was probably good because my companion said the restaurant coffee was bad. Did I mention the price was $250 a night? ($300 if you have two small dogs.) Besides the river views, the only other bright spot was the friendly and helpful staff. I feel badly that their tips are probably affected by the gloom that hung over the place. You won't be pampered here, but you will receive a hefty bill for your stay. read more

Checked in for a two night stay Thursday before Memorial Day weekend. Front desk staff excellent. Room not so. On entering noticed water rings on table had not been wiped up. Bed appeared to have not been made. No bathmat in bathroom. After unpacking and returning after dinner and pulling back bed covers noticed sheets appeared unwashed and stained. One pillow without pillowcase. Disgusting. Sliding screen door was ripped out at bottom edge. All this for $300 a night. Had to pack up and move to another room at 10:30 at night. Staff gets 5 stars for being as helpful as possible under the circumstances and comped us a free breakfast. read more

The location is beautiful and, for the most part, the staff was great. We had an issue, though, with the overall uncleanliness of the property which was masked by the pictures on the website. We had a 2 queen bed river view room which is on the other side of the main hotel and river. The shower curtain smelled like mildew and the toilet seat was not secure and kept shifting. There were rugs that needed to be vacuumed and cleaned in our bldg. The fitness room was empty, but had towels and trash on the floor. There is also a musty smell that also contributes to this feeling since the property (or least this bldg) and our room is dated. I'm not sure what you can do about it without a complete overhaul. Overall, underwhelmed for the price paid and will opt to stay (and eat) at another establishment in Bend the next time we visit. read more

Well, in this case you can't polish a turd. I recently stayed two nights at the Riverhouse, 2 rooms I. The Bighorn Building. When first walking into the lobby, it felt like we made the right choice to stay here. Friendly employees, nice bar, beautiful location on the river. But, from the first step into our rooms, we realized those were the only nice things about this place. The rooms stunk like an old Vegas motel, moldy smell with decades of smoke. The rooms were okay, but the polished turd was clearly a run down motel. The sliding doors of one of the rooms did not lock, the A/C also was stuck on 61 and kept turning on and off throughout the night. In the other room, the spiders appeared throughout and even attempted to cuddle up with us. These rooms were with at most $49 a night. We would have had a better stay at the motel 6. The only positive we're the friendly employees who tried to make it right. read more

EDIT: Today, my fourth time calling in, I was able to speak to an awesome employee named Kelsey who got me refunded. As a result, I'm bumping this up an extra star. Despite Kelsey being a rockstar, the overall experience was pretty bad. My family booked a stay at the Riverhouse for 3 nights. Prior to arrival, Riverhouse sent us an email saying we could check in early at 11AM for a $50 charge. We called them, said we'd take them up on the offer, and they made a note in our account. When it was time for our visit, we drove from Portland early so that we could arrive at 11AM in order to get situated and nap our youngest child at noon. Upon arriving at 11AM, we were told our room was not clean, and that we would need to come back in to check in at the standard check in time. This was annoying, because we now had to nap our toddler in the car (after already have young kids in the car for 3.5 hours on our drive to Bend from Portland, and our 4-year-old being increasingly antsy). It was also frustrating because this was during the PNW heat wave, so even with our AC on, our car was very hot. What was very frustrating was they later billed our credit card for $150 and emailed us a PDF saying they charged us an early check in fee for each of the 3 days. First, we were not allowed to check in early. Second, you only check into a hotel once for your stay. We called the front desk, they apologized, acknowledged it was an error, and said they would credit us back the charge. Days went by, and we never received the credit. Next, we called their accounting department using the command prompts on their phone menu. No one answered, so we left a message explaining the situation. No one called us back. We later called back in, left another message, and no one called us back. After fraudulently charging us $150, we finally had to file a dispute with our credit card company. This hotel is incredibly poorly run. Visitors beware. read more

Stayed last week at the beginning of a vacation. Polite, well-trained staff. Clean comfortable rooms. Great view of the river. Restaurant was good. Bar served good cocktails. Would give four stars but the pool had toxic levels of chlorine. The chemical smell was strong but we would never have guessed that after floating around for an hour it would ruin my wife's bathing suit and scorch her hair. We love water and often choose a hotel for its pool and spa, but have never had this happen before. Warned the staff the next day but they couldn't care less and the manager, Philip couldn't be bothered to return our calls despite numerous attempts. Noticed other reviewers had had same or similar toxic experience. So not planning to return any time soon. read more

This resort is overpriced, and the rooms and amenities are terrible. The patio is a parking lot, the pools are full of non guests, and so over chlorinated that I was afraid to use them. There is zero housekeeping. We had to beg for coffee, towels, and toilet paper! After four days, the trash was overflowing, the towels were musty and the room was filthy. Note: This review is for the hotel & room ONLY; we did not eat at the restaurant, get room service or visit the bar or spa. The wife and I stayed here for a one night stay in Bend. We found it on hotels.com and liked the pictures we saw. We drove past it before eventually finding it, then were a little confused as to where the lobby was. Once we walked inside, it was welcoming and nicely decorated. I was a little annoyed because our room was in a different building which meant we had to re-load the car and drive around the block. It was only a minute drive and not a huge deal, but a small inconvenience. The girl who checked us in was nice and full of energy. We had a single queen with a balcony which overlooked the parking lot. The pictures of the river view were not impressive so we opted not to splurge on that. No one wants to look out at the parking lot, but the river was more like a creek. The room itself was very spacious and had the modern amenities and decor. The bed wasn't as comfortable as other places I've stayed. There's nothing wrong with the hotel or room, but it was more expensive than I think it should have been. After taxes and fees, we paid more than $300 for one night which is far too much in my opinion. read more

This a decent place to stay in Bend. The river flows through the middle of the property, which gives it the name. The room was pretty nice, unfortunately, we didn't get a room facing the river. I think that would have been awesome. Pretty decent service when I called the front desk for something to be fixed. A little nit picky, but they didn't empty the trash during our two night stay. I get the towels for the environment, but the trash, I'd expect that to be taken. Overall, a good stay. Very convenient to the convention center across the street. read more

I wish I could recommend this property, sounds so nice on the website, but it is a HARD pass. First thing you MUST know is there is no housekeeping service unless you ask for it. I was not informed at check-in and no info in the room and my booked stay was for 14 days. My room would sleep 4 yet there were 2 coffee mugs. 2 coffee pods, 2 tea pods and 1 decaf pod. Nothing will be restocked without asking or just hunting supplies down yourself. The sliding door was broken and would not open. The air conditioning unit squealed LOUDLY and was not conducive to sleep. Only 1 VERY SMALL trash can in room that is not going to be emptied without scheduling. Need I go on? I would highly suggest watching your credit card like a hawk! In my group there were multiple rooms booked for the same 2 week period and everyone had holds placed on their cards for "incidentals" totaling several thousand dollars each. One person's card had a $900 hold on the first day followed by $375 holds multiple times per day every following day! This was discovered on day 4 when one person's bank account was drained from all the holds. The manager was able to put a stop to the charges but it takes multiple days for the credit card companies to release the holds which may cause a serious cash flow problem. Food in the restaurant is EXTREMELY overpriced and you should plan on waiting a very long time to get your food - even if you are the only person there. read more

Well, it had good wi-fi; a fairly good if spendy restaurant; pleasant enough people. The simple truth is that it was fine for a Holiday Inn, but not for the $200+/night we paid. There's no way we'd ever stay here again because the value is very poor for your dollar. We had an inefficiently huge room where the TV was far enough away from the bed (one office chair, one armless sitting chair beside that, only places to sit) to make viewing a little difficult. Numerous channels in the Dish guide simply don't work. The people who said get a river-side room are right and wrong. Wrong because that would be even more excessive money for a poor value, and wrong because the river is not a very big deal at that spot, but right because it would mean not being strung along the parking area with people clopping up and down. Or, in our case, some kid running the leaf blower at 8 AM on a Saturday. What could they possibly have been thinking? Then there was the useless concierge. We really needed help from someone who knew the area, and that was not available. It was Holiday Inn-level. Wasn't a fan of the accumulated grime in the bathtub anti-slip surface, or the fact that the bathroom GFCI won't reset. We paid almost $400 for a night. No mention of the extremely loud concert that was going to be held that blocked off most of the parking. Construction going on as well. The room itself is not worth the money even if the extra curricular activities weren't going on...and our room is not on the river...we have a nice parking lot view. We really enjoyed our stay! I believe nick checked us in and he was very nice and was able to upgrade our room. He heard we were going to be eating at the restaurant there and gave us a coupon for a free appetizer and 2 free drinks! Our room was great... awesome view of the river, bed very comfortable, fireplace was easy to use, bathroom great size. Only weird thing was the TV placement , but not that big of a deal. I love the texting feature that most higher end hotels now have. It's useful for asking what time the pool closes, letting them know your checking out, asking for extra shampoo to be sent to the room, etc etc. the pool and hot tub are good sized and it's nice they have the indoor and outdoor options for both. We would have loved to stay longer and enjoy the amazing food from their restaurant, but unfortunately had to get back to reality. Thanks guys for your hospitality. read more

I love this place! Highly recommend if you are looking for a beautiful relaxing place to stay in the Bend area. I was on a "mom vacation" and this looked like the perfect spot. It was! The staff were absolutely amazing all around and treated me extra special knowing it was my first time away from my son and that I was trying to have a relaxing overnight stay. I was upgraded to a fireplace room over the river and it did not disappoint. They supple the duraflame log and you can request more. The deck from the room looked over the water. It was very quiet and I love that it is family and dog friendly. I would love to bring my family back. Currents is the restaurant on site where I had dinner and it was spectacular. Outside with a fire pit table and the river just 10ft away made for the perfect evening. The friendly staff really were what made the visit all come together. I really have no idea why there is anything less than an exceptional review for this location. I highly recommend it!! read more

Friendly staff welcomes you as soon as you enter the lobby. The beds are comfortable, the grounds are beautiful with the river running through it. The dining area includes a very nice inside and outside venue. The bridge is a nice touch connecting properties that affords a nice view down the river. Overall wonderful stay. read more

What a hot mess! I realize we are living in a time of a pandemic but how long can that excuse be used? Our reserved room ended up not having a sofa bed due to a "water leak" so we slept in a queen bed...my husband, my child and myself, jacuzzi did not work, my dinner order was completely wrong and waited 25 minutes for the correct dish to be served, restaurant service was ridiculously slow, food was very uneventful, called the front desk to request an extra blanket at 9:00pm but never received it, yada yada yada!
