Although they offered a $500 coupon, they refused to honor it even though I told the salesperson that I had it. I was in a hurry to close the deal because my GEICO rental was expiring, so I didn't examine the car close enough. The car had a roof rack which was removed, leaving scratches on the roof. The tires were ready for replacement. I suggest staying away from this rip off dealer. read more

I got my car serviced for a road trip on a Monday where I specifically asked to check the heating system and tires. On Friday, I went to a local tire place and they said 2 of the tires only had 2000 miles on them so I replaced the tires and got an alignment. Miss number 1. Then on the road trip, the ac did not come on as we drove further south with temperatures in the 80s. Stopped into a wonderful Toyota dealership, Dan Cava, who took the car in immediately and diagnosed the problem in 10 minutes! Miss number 2. The repair they did fixed both heat and ac. Prologue: I purchased a RAV4 and a Highlander about 10 years ago and still really like owning them. The salesman (no longer there) was the best ever. My first covered servicing for the Highlander was marred by a small side piece of molding that was broken by the lift, but it was only when home did I discover the obvious damage. I brought the Highlander back and they repaired it with glue which of course never held the piece properly in place. The lift snapped the clips that held the piece in place so they told me they were going to order a new part and let me know when I needed to return. I was never called. I figured that glue might be better given how easy this vulnerable base molding was to being broken each time on a lift. Last experience, the one that is particularly remembered: Instead of getting my New York Vehicle Inspection done locally (always under $40 and well under 30 minutes), I decided to let Toyota Riverhead handle it because I wanted to check out their showroom, looking to trade in both my RAV4 and Highlander this year. I even got a fair written offer in the mail for the Highlander for $15,355! Here is how this vehicle inspection and I both went off the rails: T is for your TIME wasted due to Toyota inefficiency. I was made to wait over an hour and a half for a job that should have lasted at most 30 minutes. O is for OH we could care less about your satisfaction. The morning after the service, I received this cell phone message: It was a pleasure servicing your Highlander. Please let us know how our team treated you and your Toyota. Your happiness is our success. Thanks - Michael Hamill at Riverhead Toyota. This was my immediate reply: I left a detailed message with accounting about the labor costs. The technician told be the wiper blade would be about $21. This is something I would normally replace myself from a parts store. Had he told me that there would be unreasonably high labor fee on top if that, I never would have let him do it. That work and replacing two light bulbs does not justify the billed labor time. The technician said this labor time also included the state inspection work which of course is to be included in the $38 inspection fee, making it seem that I was being double billed for inspection costs. The bill was very complicated to read by the way. To change a wiper blade and two bulbs takes under 5-10 minutes, having done these simple tasks many times myself. I was glad he noticed the license plate lights were out, but please don't abuse your customers with excessive labor billing. My plan was never to return to Toyota Riverhead and to contest the bill with credit card company. Many calls later reaching out to the Service Manager all went unreturned. No, customer satisfaction is not important when it comes to customers with billing questions. Y is for YOU will not understand our bill and YOU will not get your questions properly addressed. Who has time anyway at check out to understand two pages of billing anyway. Just pay and leave! O is for OVERBILLING. Simple parts like a windshield wiper blade and two light bubs is not complicated nor time consuming. Do these things yourself or have the Autoparts store people happily help you out. Don't allow opportunistic Toyota of Riverhead to abuse you. T is for TAKE your business elsewhere where your satisfaction is valued. I'm glad to see Yelp has a very fitting overall review for this place that should not be in business. The review I posted was about a year ago, but it still is worth re-posting here. I had a generic positive review, but I've realized there's a lot of problems with this dealership. For starters, I had a 2015 Honda Accord for a number of years & Riverhead Toyota was happy to accept it as a trade-in for a reasonable price to use as a down payment for my 2021 Toyota Camry XLE. This car has a lot of bells & whistles that I appreciate. I've accepted a few warranty choices on the vehicle just in case of any potential problems down the road. So far the car has been good. Until recently a couple weeks ago, I experienced a popped tire incident on the LIE. This resulted in some concerns of further damage to the vehicle after the damaged tire was replaced with a spare. I immediately went to the dealership the next day to get it checked out because of high concern I had greater damage elsewhere. They told me nothing was wrong & NO DAMAGES, but of course the tire needed to be replaced. I suggested a wheel alignment due to the issue & was told that was not covered under warranty. Not sure how a Rim & Tire Warranty does not cover a wheel alignment which has to do with the tire. But I digress, I paid the $100+ needed to get it fixed. After the replacement, I had a very obnoxious vibration sound with my car when accelerating 50 MPH or more. I had concern based on what I researched that the tires needed a balancing. Eventually they did a tire balancing, but found out the tires are bent? I didn't exactly fully understand what the issue was, but I was informed that it was confirmed with the Used Car Manager that it was not covered under the warranty & that I would be paying out of pocket over a $1k with 2 options of quotes. Each of which over a grand of my money. They said the tire balancing did reduce the vibration issue, but did not stop it. I can't foresee this type of issue with the vehicle being a good outcome overtime. The vibrations overtime will eventually eat away at what is causing the vibration. Wear & tear of the vehicle will increase the damage already done. But because it's not a problem NOW, I have to settle with the issue of a constant vibration that will over time cause damage to my vehicle. Remember, they said NOTHING WAS WRONG after the tire incident. Guess that was a lie. I just got this vehicle in the beginning of July with $28k+ owed & a $500+ monthly car payment. The tire balancing was at no charge to me & I went on my way to work. As I was driving on the LIE, I received a notification on my dashboard about a low tire pressure warning. My rear right tire which had no damages prior to being serviced, was low & decreasing at a rapid rate while I was on the road. Which leads me to believe the tire got punctured during service. Margaret gave me the impression I could bring the vehicle by at 7 PM tonight to get the tire replaced. I even followed up with a car to confirm. Nowhere did she say 7 *AM* or SATURDAY. She only said 7. So I went there feeling foolish & zero compassion given from her. Zero apology for her ERROR in communication. There were a couple of other issues I wanted to bring up as well. Firestone tires are mediocre tires at best. If you want decent tires, you get a Michelin brand. I feel like at this point I need to pay out of pocket to get the better tire brand just to prevent these accidents & problems persisting. Which is extremely unfortunate as I'm already in debt before the car & further in debt after. With more troubles coming up. Even just the windshield wipers alone on the vehicle. They were barely hanging on by a thread! I went to clean them & immediately the rubber on the wiper blades fell off. Ali Shah was the used car sales rep I discussed with about the car & while I do appreciate his upbeat personality, his kindness, consideration, & *mostly* professional attitude, the one thing that definitely was off putting about him was the fact he tried to pressure me into scribbling my mother's signature. Pressuring a customer to forge their mother's signature is not something that should ever happen & it really showed his character when he did that. Very unfortunate. The service manager Mike is an incompetent person that should not be running a department. He had the nerve to leave me hanging in terms of follow up calls and emails due to "personal reasons." I would never return back to this place unless I had no other resort. But it's definitely going to never happen ever again. read more

I bought my 2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro from Riverhead Toyota. I had a hard bed cover installed by the dealer before I picked up the truck. After having the truck for 6 weeks I noticed the cover was leaking. Not the normal few drops when it rains but a lot of water was getting in. I went to the dealership at first I got the run around then one of the service reps - James Wilson got involved. He went out of his way to find out who installed the cover and what needed to be done to get it fixed. It was nice to see someone who takes pride in his job and who puts the customers satisfaction first !!! I am happy to say after our recent rain storm I had minimal water in the truck bed. The invoice order said they cleaned my cabin air filter because didn't want to replace it (maybe 20 bucks for a filter ) just to found out the cabin filter was not cleaned at all. When I came there, few hours later, the car magically disappeared, no test drive, not even on the lot. Next, I was quoted a good trade-in value for my car on their website, but when I came in they priced the car $6K less. The car is in great condition, no problems. I feel they do this to lure customers in. And last but not least... They quoted the price for the new car $10K over MSRP! At that price, BMW is cheaper than a Toyota... Giant scratches in the paint. Truck had few hundred miles on it at the time. They got green paint on my charcoal interior on numerous areas. . I have had two cars serviced here. Here's my most recent experience. I brought my daughter's car in when it had air conditioning problems. They diagnosed it as needing a part plus refrigerant. It would cost $600+ and they could not get the part until the next day. My daughter needed to leave, so she brought the car in for service near where she lives. They saw the diagnosis and did their own evaluation. They fixed the A/C by just refilling the refrigerant. The car did not need the expensive part. I wouldn't have written this review if I hadn't had other bad experiences with their service. I have never been there when my service did not take twice as long as their estimate. read more

Awful service. A few years ago I owned a Toyota Tundra Crewmax. The dealership had to replace some parts and fix my navigation system. They had the truck for over a week and when I went to pick it up it was returned to me with the entire dashboard still off. I mean NOT connected at all. I had to ask for them to replace it before leaving the property. Then when I left I was promised that my navigation was in working order, and when I was 1/2 an hour away from the dealership it stopped working. When I called them they acted like there was nothing they could do. I never wrote a bad review because I happen to like the sales people there. Fast forward to today: This is my 3rd Toyota truck.I have a Tacoma and tried to make a service appointment for a 100k mile servicing and a brake check. I was told they no longer offer loaner vehicles (the person could not tell me how long ago they stopped offering that courtesy) AND the person could not even give me an estimate of how long the service would be. Like, would I sit in their waiting room for 12 hours or 1 hour? Couldn't/wouldn't/refused to even guess and kept insisting only the technician could tell me when I dropped it off. Although I tried explaining that I live an hour and a half to the east in summer traffic, there was no guesstimate. And I was spoken to like I was an idiot. I will never use the dealership for anything again. They suck. read more

Prius wouldn't start in Jersey City after not being driven for a few weeks. Jump started by AAA and told that the starter battery needed replacing (according to some iPad app and sensor). Went to Riverhead Toyota (they carried the replacement battery) and was helped by Nicole in the service department. She said that replacement 12v aux batteries were expensive and with labor could be around $400. After the tech looked at the problem, Nicole called to tell me that the battery did not need replacing. It just needed to be trickle charged if it isn't driven more often. Though they carried trickle chargers for sale, she said that I could do better at a big box store nearby. The total for service? ZERO dollars! Clearly, something is going outstandingly RIGHT at Riverhead a Toyota. You might be able to shop around for cheaper service, but you cannot get beat Riverhead Toyota's service department first ETHICS. If I could give 6 stars, I would! Well read more

They wanted $300 or 2hrs labor to remove the plastic bumper cover to even look at sensor. Its 6 screws and 6 plastic tabs. Would take a technician 15 minutes. The scheduled appointment for an oil change and simple inspection I was told would be 1.5 hours. After waiting 2.5 hours my keys were handed to me, I was told find your car outback, when I walked the entire length of the building to the rear of the parking, my car was nowhere in sight. I had brought my RAV4 in for an air-conditioning issue.. two weeks later the AC went out again and I brought it back again. This was happening every two weeks and I went back there four times and then the fifth time it went out again. I called the dealership and said I need a loaner car this time. I don't want this thing back until it's fixed. The girl on the other end of the phone wasn't very friendly and told me well. I have to wait two weeks for a loaner. I said I can't wait that long for a loaner. I said I need air conditioning. I have to go to work. She's like well there's nothing else I can do. I said I want the car fixed and I'll trade with you guys. If not, I'll go someplace else. She had to tell me whether I buy a car from them or not, won't make or break them. Call to speak to a manager of course they were busy today's later and manager called me after my fourth attempt. When I called back seconds later I was told he was busy. When I finally got a hold of him, he told me he tried calling me, but not his job to keep calling customers. They're too busy. I went and traded in with another dealership who had the time for me unlike this dealership. Other issues in the past, but they were minor but this time they really pissed me off. Telling a customer that whether I buy a car from them or not, won't make a break them shows me you don't care about my business which is fine. So I'm doing this review and I let everybody know about the dealership and how they feel about their customers and how they treat their customers. Once they have your money they can care less about you. $85,000 I spent on my new car could have went to them. I'm glad I didn't "make or break" them. read more

Brought my daughter's car in for an oil change and they tell me it's due for a tire rotation. 1 tire had low pressure. Service guy tells me two of my tires have nails. One can be patched - nail is in the tread - the other tire must be replaced because it has a nail in the sidewall and this is dangerous. I tell them no thanks and go to Zima. Zima finds the nail in the tread and patches it (hence low pressure). After searching and inspecting (2 guys), there is no 2nd nail in the side wall of any of the tires. $18 and I'm good to go instead of the $200+ Toyota wanted to charge for a new tire, mounted and balanced. I have serviced my Nissan Rogue SUV here for nearly 3 years and this is the first bad experience. It is clear in my mind that Donna Harrison, my service advisor and Ken Hiz, Service Manager, are under ownership pressure to make lots of money for the owner. I went for an oil and filter change, I was told I needed near rear brakes but could use the $249 dealer coupon, so said ok, but then Donna said I need new rotors but only a little extra. They then replace both front and back brakes (they replaced front brakess a year ago and I only had 10,000 miles since then) and when it was done, I had a bill for $1,500! I tried to get some adjustment and they offered very little, $130 refund. Nissan Corporate did nothing! This is my last Nissan! Avoid this dishonest dealer at all costs!!! read more

I warned my wife not to come here. She needed an oil change and couldn't get to Smithtown Toyota so she went to this location. After their attempts at making her get a bunch of things she didn't need they finally "did the oil change". That's in quotation marks because a week later the car began doing that choking on fumes thing cars do when there's little to no oil. Not only did they not make sure she had oil, the other fluids that are supposed to be tended to weren't even touched. I just had to go out to autozone and do everything myself. She paid full price for a simple oil change and these degenerates didn't even perform one. I've come here many times over the years for maintenance and repairs, and I haven't found that they do unnecessary things to my car, but I'm not a mechanic, so maybe I wouldn't know. I did have a different Toyota dealership in another state try to rip me off with a 5 figure repair. Luckily I spoke to someone else first, so I didn't do it. Anyway, that's why I come here instead. I haven't dealt too much with their car salespeople, but they seem like a generally reputable bunch. Their free hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies while you wait are delicious. Failed twice to fix recalled airbag problem, then claimed problem (dead airbag) was unrelated to recall and wanted $2300 to fix. Never again. Not Toyota, and especially not Riverhead Toyota. Addendum: They fixed the truck for free after I complained to the NYS Attorney General's Office. If you have a problem with a car dealer, don't hesitate to call in the big guns. I took off an hour from work to get this done figuring that would be plenty of time, guess not. I even told them they didn't have to rotate my tires. This is my second bad experience with them for service. Now the wife and I both have Toyotas so I guess I will be taking them to Middle Island. I just don't understand how they cant get there crap together. If you are backed up in service maybe make some phone calls to the incoming customers asking if they would be willing to change their appointments.
