Ethan listened to my concerns, was patient, professional and likeable.. he went above and beyond. I never felt like Ethan was trying to sell to me; instead I felt like he was a consultant there to advise me and help me make the best choice for me. I originally visited the dealership over a year ago, but wasn't ready to make a decision on a car (If you remember, a year ago cars were really difficult to get). I took my car for oil change, they told me I also need to replace air filter. I agreed, as I always take a good care of my car . Cost me over $400. I usually take it to different VW location though, but this time it was more convenient for me to take it to Riverhead Bay VW. So, I changed oil and filter as they recommended. A few weeks later I have oil leak . Took it back , waited six hours, they said they forgot to close dipstick properly last time . Ok . They told me they fix it . Next morning my car is covered in oil again. I took it back , in 20 minutes they telling me i need to replace PCV, which apparently was damaged due to oil leak. after all they CHARGED me $1350! The worst service ever !!!! All parts were not too expensive, but they charged $700 for labor to fix their own mistake. What a scam. read more

This VW dealership service was horrific. Disgusting patronizing service. Went in with a flat. Had a rental. Asked when the car would be ready and couldn't seem to give me a straight answer. I didn't care it wasn't ready. I just needed a time. Service person was so condescending "nice". What a joke. Seriously all I needed was a straight answer not a SNARKY pretending to be nice person. So after this dealer overcharged thousands over sticker, I paid cash for the car so no extra work in loans and such. After 8000 miles I get a warning light , turns out the head cylinder is leaking coolant into the motor. I was told to bring the car in and they have no loaner cars for over a month. They couldn't care less that I would not have transportation. They would not schedule a time when they do have loaner cars even though they said it could be driven locally as long as the coolant level is monitored. Be careful buying anything from these people, they will overcharge you, take your money and when a major issue happens they will tell you tough luck. read more

For the past two weeks I have spoken to numerous Volkswagen dealers as well as looks through used Tiguans through other vendors. It was a long and irritating process and each time the dealer quotes for the same exact cars were excessively high. The minute I said I had another quote then all of a sudden they could match that one! The whole situation felt not great. I decided to give one last ditch effort at Riverhead Volkswagen and well that's when everything changed. I met Christian and I swear hand to God I will never say another bad thing about car salespeople! It's not the occupation it's the person! Christian was the BEST!!!! He was so kind and knowledgeable and talked us through a few different options. He even walked us to the cars and showed us all the differences. I got none of this at the other dealers. I finally found the perfect car and even with the crazy prices right now Christian did his best to negotiate on my behalf. If you are in the market for a Volkswagen I suggest you go straight to Riverhead and ask for Christian! You will not be disappointed and I promise you may never go to a different car dealership again. Christian if you read this THANK YOU! I've been looking for a new car for the past few months and after having a 2015 Jetta that i've adored for a while, I decided I wanted to stick with another VW, but this time a GTI or Golf R or maybe a GLI. I've came in twice, once dealing with Ethan and the other with Christian. They both were awesome in being able to help me and give me information on the vehicles I was interested in. I haven't bought anything from there yet because I haven't found the right car for the right price. THAT BEING SAID, they have a used 22 Golf R that I adore- while they pride themselves on not going well over sticker the Golf R while being a year old and used was $10k over MSRP. While I do understand the demand for these cars is high- I have yet to see an R go so much over MSRP, a used one at that. The GTIs here are definitely cheaper here than anywhere else which I do appreciate tons and they stick to the whole MSRP deal. It's just quite frustrating because all other dealers have the opposite problem, $5-10k over MSRP for a GTI while a R stays MSRP. however there was a 2016 GTI going for $24k which still shows that they don't necessarily own up to the whole "we dont mark up". I've had an overall good experience though and may just be a little frustrated with the fact that I haven't found the right car yet, but Ethan and Christian and wonderful and real, and while certain cars were listed over MSRP- I get it it's business. I NEVER felt pressured to buy in the way I've felt anywhere else and that's why I'll keep coming back until I find my next ride. They were both very knowledge as well. read more

This is regarding the SERVICE DEPARTMENT: I purchased my VW Jetta there a few years ago. Not a single complaint. Car has been running without issue until my entire lock system failed to the point my dog was locked in a running car without ability to get in (locksmith needed to get in). Unfortunate but is what it is... Called service department to have far fixed and repeatedly told "that's ridiculous" and "ma'am are you sure your key doesn't work?" but once car examined at the Service department, technicians experienced what I described there was a labor intensive $800 fix. In all honesty, it was completed quickly when I wasn't scheduled. 1 week later, the SAME things were happening so I immediately returned the car as it is not safe to drive. Greeted by the service department saying "none of our work is guaranteed", made to sign for a diagnostic fee and told we can "try the other door's codes" for another labor extensive, un-guaranteed $800+ charge. Repeated client service representatives answering their phones pass the buck, play the transfer game and are condescending without actually look to answer a question. Car service is always frustrating, but this has the worst service, costly experience I've encountered. There are numerous other options in the area, I would advise trying their departments. read more

I purchased a new VW Golf in 2002 in South Jersey, but the Riverhead Volkswagen was to be our official service station. The head people there were very schemey, and when I asked them to do our inspection, they found enough nonsense to fix in order to pass our relatively new car to charge us $6,000+! I couldn't believe it. After taking it to our local inspection station, they charged me $35 and I went on my way. We still drive the Golf as our second car. Basically, the people here are out for brownie points and profits. After one recall was replaced, the manager (Keith?) told us if we gave him a 5 star review on the feedback form he was holding out to us, that he would give us a discount in some other service we needed. So you get a coupon for lying. That's what I mean by schemey. They make other car salesmen look like Mother Theresa. I would avoid this place like the plague. read more

Yes, no problem is what we were told - twice. Well they didn't honor the warranty and charged us $100 for service and inspection that was supposed to be free. Don't go there. They lie and cheat you. I used this dealership this past week because it was the only VW dealer near Southampton where I work for the summer, I have to said this has been a bad experience since day one when Michelle who was the representative who helped me told me that first they don't have any loaner cars because you have to reserve then with a month in advance and if they do they can not leave the state of NY and of course I live in CT, who does that?? But she was helpful enough to make all the arrangement to get me a discounted rate with the rental car because even when you are leaving your car for service with them they don't even cover at least some of the rental cost due to their ridiculous policy. They offer shuttle service which is good but unfortunately even when you requested ahead of time they have no respect of others time ( their answer by Chris when I ask for an estimated time " He will get there whenever he gets there" completely rude answer, specially when I'm at work and had limited amount of time to deal with this. I asked Michelle specifically about making sure to ask the rental car if they accept debit cards because that was the only thing I have with me and she responded yes no problem, I asked her to make sure of this not once, not twice but 3 times and her response was always yes they said will be no problem but when I got in to the rental place " surprise surprise, No they don't accept debit cards" I was furious, desperate and started to cry out of frustration, what I was going to do ?? Thankfully the Regional Manager of the rental dealership after talking to the person in charge in VW who knew of my situation was convinced to talk to her boss and they let me use my Debit car. But I didn't appreciate one bit the mislead and wrong information. Another thing that happen was that whoever worked in my car was not careful to realize I have a very pricey umbrella under and behind the driver seat of my vehicle unfortunately they don't care and they don't take responsibility if something is missing or broken in your vehicle while they work on it.. I drive a Volkswagen CC and love it! However I had issues with my engine that needed immediate attention. I chose to go to Donaldsons in Sayville, big mistake. They tried to replace parts I found out that I didn't need. The parts came out to $500. But the labor came to $3000! My mind was blown because my warranty just ran out. I didn't know what to do. A friend recommended I try Riverhead Bay. I was already at odds with Donaldsons, I didn't expect much from Bay. However I talked to a guy named Ed that was very nice. Before he did the work he gave me a price, how much where parts and labor and he didn't sell me parts I didn't need. When I got there they actually over charged me and corrected the mistake. I have never been so excited. When I got my car it drove like a dream. My car was running for more then half the price I would have paid at Donaldsons. My husband and I purchased our 2014 Forester here in August 2013. It was generally a moderate experience as I did not have high expectations... we were happy with the price, transaction, and quality of the vehicle (got the only manual transmission on the lot at that time), but ultimately, my feeling walking away from this place was: misogynistic. Unfortunately, the salesman, Tim, treated my husband and my father (who accompanied us) very differently than he treated me. I traded in my 2008 Madza 3 to purchase the Forester, and even though the title and registration was completely in my name, this salesman insisted upon addressing my husband only and it his name that was put on our extended warranty agreement. It was abundantly clear that I was a very equal part of the purchase of this vehicle, but some men just don't seem to get it... treated me like a little girl rather than a grown woman. In the time since the purchase of the vehicle, the people in service have been fair. They pinpointed the oil leak our 2014 Forester had (like so many other 2010-2014 Subarus) as it was coming from the oil pan gasket and it was fixed under our warranty. No problems after that. One redeeming quality this dealership has going for it is Ken Hausner in Finance. He is a very good person and has been enormously helpful AND respectful, a stark contrast from the reprehensible experience I had with Tim McCutchan in Sales... read more

My 2013 Passat was flat bedded there when the turbo imploded with only 7K miles on the car. Service Dept communication was terrible, and the repair estimated at three days took them twelve days. "Tomorrow" should be their motto. Great sales staff but a HORRENDOUS service department. read more

I'm so sorry to say that my experience with the dealership ended badly. At the beginning, coming from Hyundai, the experience was what I expected. More upscale with better service. Leasing my GTI (totally overpriced car) went smoothly with friendly service. That was 3 year ago. By the 2nd year the place went straight down hill. Service went from professional to a bunch of high schoolers running around frantic. The staff had attitudes and any request was met with "the next time you come in we'll take care of it.." (never to be). When my lease ended I could not get questions answered and had to finally get loud and aggressive for them to take care of me. They got me for $1300 for a mint car with general front road rash (45,000 mile car) and a worn drivers seat bolster that started getting thin the first few months I had it. I told them off, will never deal with them again, and went back to good old realizable Hyundai. They never failed me. read more

I recently bought a Subaru here and had a great experience, unlike in other dealerships (to be fair, not all on the island) where I'd been confronted with a lot of aggressive & annoying sales tactics. This was nothing like that. My salesperson was Ed McGarr and he was extremely low-key and patient with me, even though I asked a lot of questions--I really liked the fact that he had a background in fraud prevention and was comfortable with me checking out some of the numbers. (He was also willing to help with some special circumstances my husband & I had.) Everything just went incredibly smoothly. The finance manager was great too, even though I seem to have forgotten his name temporarily (I know where to get it, it's out in the car, it's just a bit too cold at the moment for me to go out & check!). I may have benefited from the fact that I was buying my car, a Legacy, in December, a time that didn't seem incredibly busy for Subaru dealers in my area, who all seemed to be waiting for the 2017 Impreza to come in, but still, I found their low-pressure and reasonable approach quite refreshing. read more

Linda was patient and kind. Her demeanor is professional, knowledgeable, and helpful, going above and beyond to ensure I had what I needed. Seek her out if you want a sales person who is no pressure yet attentive. She made the experience fun and was a joy to work with. Ken, the finance wizard, is a stand out as well. I got a great rate on my first car loan ever. Too bad he couldn't work his magic on my grad school loan !!! Unlike previous reviewers, I did not experience the misogynistic vibe that others did. Misogynistic, dishonest, and condescending. I went into Riverhead Bay looking to purchase a new VW Jetta. It would have been my first car purchase so I was excited, but admittedly not entirely knowledgeable. I brought a male friend with me to help look around. Our salesman was Bill, and at first I was pleased that he did not have the aggressive service that I heard was typical with car salesmen. He let us look around and take the car for a drive without being too pushy or invasive. When I sat down to ask questions and discuss financing, he was very impatient with me, as a new car buyer, to answer my questions. He offered me a too-good-to-be-true offer of a Conquest Rebate - $1,500 through VW for a non-Volkswagen owner who is buying a VW for the first time. He asked me what car I currently drove, and I told him it was a rental car through my company, not a vehicle registered in my name. He told me I would still qualify for the Conquest Rebate if I had another person in my same HOUSEHOLD who drove a non-VW. He told me I could use my roommates registration as long as the registered address was the same as the address I would be using to register the newly purchased VW. Too good to be true, because it wasn't true. Days later, Bill accepted my offer on the Jetta, approved me for VCI financing, and sent me a purchase agreement with the $1,500 rebate included. Great deal! I spoke with someone in the finance department a few days later, and was all set up to go into the dealership to pick up my keys and sign paperwork. The day I went into the dealership, I went alone. Immediately, the vibe was different. Bill asked me to present the registration for me to claim my rebate. When I showed him my roommate's registration, he refused it, saying my name had to be on the registration. When I protested, he told me that I was confused, and that my friend and I had told him that we drove a VW, which was why he offered me the rebate. Huh? That does not add up. If he truly had thought I drove a VW (which I NEVER said) then I would not have qualified for the $1,500 rebate. And yet, there it was, clear as day on the purchase agreement he sent me days before! But he persisted, telling me that I was confused, and was very belittling. He completely dismissed me, waving me into the finance office after refusing to further discuss his dishonest offer. In the finance office, I spoke with Jeff. Things IMMEDIATELY started off on a bad foot when he shook my hand and said "What perfume are you wearing, you smell very nice." Are you kidding me? In what world is it appropriate to treat a serious client in that way? It was clear to me that I was in a misogynistic, stereotypical, male-dominated dealership. I kept calm with Jeff and we discussed the rebate that I was offered. He continued to tell me that I was confused and had misunderstood, and was very patronizing. I even called my male friend, and he was furious - he knew the deal that had been offered me, and they were lying to my face. I repeatedly told Jeff that I felt uncomfortable and taken advantage of, and asked for my deposit back so I could leave. He dawdled in getting my deposit back, then tried to speak with his manager to "save this deal". His idea of "saving the deal" was to offer me a series of options... However, his ideas to offer me a lower monthly payment for a longer term, or extended warranties at a higher cost were ridiculous. He thought I would be stupid enough to not see through that ploy. I might be new to the car-buying world, but I am not stupid. These men were not treating me with honesty or transparency. This experience would have been thoroughly different if I had not been a young female, alone, trying to discuss financing options. At this point I was furious, and again asked for my deposit back. As I left the dealership, I walked right by Bill (the original salesman's) desk. He did not apologize or acknowledge me whatsoever. As someone who works in customer service, I was appalled at this treatment. VW can, and should, do better for their customers. read more

WORST PLACE TO PURCHASE A CAR EVER. They reset their diagnostic machine and illegally finagled the machine's report, to make the car appear driveable. So, after the 1,000 miles, when the car reset and the engine light came on. It turned out the car was missing an intake hose, and had a bend gear. It was obviously not our fault, but they REFUSED to help in any way. Even with pictures, proving their illegal finagling of diagnostic equipment, they REFUSED to help in any way. I purchased my first subaru two years ago from a different subaru dealer on the island and had such a terrible experience with them i swore up and down i would never buy subaru ever again. I went out looking to buy a new car and figured, let me atleast look at what riverhead bay subaru has before i just drive by it. I was greeted by their salesman Tony Novellino when i walked in who was young, very nice, eager to help, and not pushy which made me feel very comfortable while i looked around at what they had in stock. After spending some time looking around i decided to give it another go with subaru and get a new 2014 cross trek. They didnt have the one i wanted in stock so it had to be ordered, which took a few weeks, but it arrived just when i was told it would. When i went to pick it up they had everything ready for me at the time they said it would be ready, everyone was very friendly and helpful and i was out in the new car within an hour, no time wasted, no sitting around waiting and waiting. This dealership has got it dialed in. Very satisfied with my experience with them and know where i will be buying my next car. read more

We drop off our car off to Michele Stokes at Riverhead Bay Volkswagen 42 days ago to be repaired and to date I still do not have my car back. Yesterday we received a call from Michele stating that there is a leak in the one of the pipes. My car has never leaked in the 6 years I have had it. I never had to put antifreeze in the car. Now they want to charge us $400 to fix it. From the beginning this has been a nightmare. When my car originally went into be repaired, the warranty was still active. Now that the warranty is expired, she now is finding something else. My guess is that they broke the pipe while working on the engine and are trying to push the expense off to the customer. This is not right! I've sent many friends whom have bought vehicles from Riverhead Bay Volkswagen. I will never send one again after this experience. Ripping customers off is not right! Own up to your mistakes like everyone else has to. I am extremely upset with the professionalism shown to me. I will never do business with Riverhead Bay Volkswagen again and neither will anyone that I associate with! read more
