The 'community' business wouldn't even talk to residential people because they were working exclusively with PG&E. Their loss was my gain. Another search gave me a lead via Home Advisor. Thankfully. Pete came out to my location within hours to survey the job. He came back later in the day to discuss with me. The bid was VERY reasonable and he would work on my schedule. I had to have rocks removed around the trunks so that they wouldn't damage the grinder. It took about a week to get the rocks moved. I texted him and within three days he returned. A little over an hour the stumps were ground, the yard cleaned up, and the only thing left was a satisfied customer. He gave me a few cards and asked me to hand them out if I knew anyone who needed help. My first instinct was to write a Yelp review, of course. The problem is even with the name and phone number of the business Yelp never revealed Monterey Bay Stump Grinding .com as a business! It was only when I tried to add the business as a consumer did Yelp reveal this business, who already have a number of reviews. I had asked him if he advertised much and he said not right now as it was a difficult time and he was trying to save on expenses. There were 8 pages of business listed in my search for stump grinding. I couldn't find Monterey Bay Stump Grinding on any of them! Hopefully they will show up now?

I am sure they may be fine for small jobs but I would not hire them for any large projects as they do not have a bucket truck or equipment to do large scale tree pruning . They made up a story too just to demand payment . Very poor form on their part . They hurt someone else's reputation just to try and get paid . I would not refer them to anyone again .

The arborist, Andy, showed a Willingness to listen and work with me as the homeowner, on specific…read morebranch removal that was exemplary. He also gave advice regarding "shock" to a tree if too much is removed at once. (This job was primarily to cut back trees along my property line, so that if these notoriously breakable Cypress tree limbs shattered in a storm, they would not fall on my neighbors' homes or fences.) He and his crew also provided excellent cleanup, with */no damage whatsoever/* to structures or fencing in VERY TIGHT work areas, with only 1 foot of clearance between the 30 inch diameter eucalyptus tree being trimmed and the fence: He didn't drop ANY limbs or branches onto the fence or the neighboring shrubs. His quote was fair and this job was difficult, due to the other part of it being Cypress trees that tend to split under wind load. I had had one "rush" job done the "La Niña" in 2021 by the only tree service available at the time (NOT his) and I am quite sure that A&A Tree Care would have charged 10 to 20% less for the same job. Also, he split the bill into two clear sections, so that the work on the eucalyptus tree, which was in the neighbors yard, was shown as a separate part of the estimate. This was important, as my neighbor had offered to pay for the trimming of that tree, where it was overhanging my fence and property line; the neighbors tree was a particular nuisance to me, as it was constantly dropping seeds and branches down into my trees and shrubs below. I began my own building contractor work at age 16 during high school summers and did my first arborist style of tree climbing on the tall straight, Jeffrey and Ponderosa Pines in the San Jacinto mountains in Southern California, so I know the hazards of the work and the difficulties of doing a trimming job in limited spaces. He didn't run his chainsaws or wood any longer than was absolutely necessary, as he said "Even though this noise level is permitted during the day, I don't want to disturb your neighbors anymore than I have to. I can't recommend him highly enough!

Jorje was great, he told me he would chip it all when he got here. He did just that and did a great job trimming our trees. I had asked him to trim a lot and a month had gone by from our quote (fire season the trimmers were booked out), he remembered everything we talked about and did a great job creating our defensible space to keep our family and house safe. Our whole street uses him. My neighbor had a giant tree taken down by them. My other neighbor has him out multiple times a year to trim a heavily wooded area backing up to our neighborhood canyon. They like him so much they stopped by to say hi to him and his crew when he was trimming our trees. I have used a few other trimmers in the area who have been great. However, when you call them a 2nd time their quotes double. Jorje is honest and consistent with his work and price. We all talk about the Carmel mark-up, whenever people come to Carmel they always mark-up the price when you compare it to your friend in Seaside or Marina. He doesn't do that. He is consistent across the Peninsula. When he was in the neighborhood at my neighbor's house I took down a large branch myself and asked him if he would swing by and chip it for me. He cleaned up my unprofessional cut, chipped up my limb, and blew away the mess for me on his way out after a full day of work at my neighbors. Not many businesses in this area know what true customer service is, he does, and that's why we all use him as our trimmer.
