Lopez Tree Service (father and son) stepped up at very short notice to take down and remove a dead tree from my mother's home prior to an imminent severe storm. They showed up at the home within 2 hours of contact to assess, and then within 2 days to take the tree down. They removed the stump, leveled the ground, and took away all of the pieces of the tree, leaving my mom's yard pristine! Mike Lopez & his son Mike Jr came out to my house & gave an estimate to cut down a large tree in front of my house & 1/2 of another large tree. During the last storm the other half of the large tree ended up across my driveway. The estimate was more than affordable. They began the work yesterday & finished up today. We had the absolute best experience with Lopez Tree Service. They went far above and beyond to help us, they were FAR less expensive than any of the other Tree Services we called. On a Thursday night a large section of our very large tree broke off at 7:00 PM. It took out the fence, draped over a car, was blocking our driveway and part of the street. We called them the next morning and even though part of their crew was out of town they sent someone over to clean up the immediate mess, this was on a Friday. The next Monday they showed up with a full crew to take care of the fallen section with the wood chipper. We knew the tree was compromised and had hoped to keep it until the fall, but Mike Sr. showed us what a true danger it was to leave it. The whole inside of the tree was rotted out, since it was missing 1/3 of it's weight there was a high likelihood the rest of it was going to go, that section would take out our living room. We agreed to take the tree down then and their but wanted to know if we could replace it with the same type of tree. A mature tree, a very large one. We had done some shopping knowing we would probably have to replace it even before it exploded so we had an idea about how much is should cost. Mike got us a price for the new tree on Tuesday. We were able to pick the tree we wanted from pictures they sent us. Their price to replace the tree was 5k less than everyone else. Mike and his crew dug out a hole for the new tree 2x the size of the box it was coming in. When the tree arrived 14 days from the date the original tree broke, they had their crew ready to unload and plant it. This was no easy thing. The tree is huge. When they were all done, in record time, our yard literally looked like nothing had ever happened. The Fence that needed to be removed was put back exactly the way it was, they took the time to move some of our plants so they would not be trampled, they cleaned up our entire yard, not just the area they were working in. After this past winter with our 1000 atmospheric rivers (hyperbole here) and all the trees that came down as a result, it became imperative that I try to get rid of all the trees that were close to my house that posed a threat and so I contacted multiple tree companies and the most professional, knowledgeable, caring, helpful and competitively priced was Lopez Tree Service. The process couldn't have been easier or smoother from the beginning to the end. Michael, the son and part owner, asked me which ones I wanted to cut down (gave me his advice) and said he would write up the request for the permit and send it to the forester for approval. Michael worked directly with the forester to schedule an inspection and once the forester came out and approved the permit, Michael scheduled me in immediately and came the next day with his crew to cut and remove the trees. Since I was at home,  I was able to see all the work that goes into the cutting and removal of trees which was more involved than I ever could have imagined, especially when they are so close to homes.  The safety protocols and attention to every little detail that they followed were top of line.  When they were finished my house and my neighbor's house (one of the trees was between our houses) looked like no one had removed any trees- the only evidence being the stumps. Our houses looked better than before they came because they cleaned areas of the roofs and patios that they didn't get dirty. So happy with my decision to hire Lopez Tree Service to remove my trees!! I used Lopez Tree Service several times over the past 5 years. It started out with a simple firewood delivery and later expanded to small to mid-sized pruning and canopy reduction work. In November 2019, Lopez Tree Service removed a large 100+ foot Monterey Pine from my backyard on an emergency basis. Overall, I can't imagine a better experience. Mike Lopez and his teem have been responsive, courteous and always got the job done as promised, including clean-up and debris removal. After ready the previous reviews on file I, with some hesitation, contacted Lopez based primarily on a favorable recommendation from my daughter. Spoke with the son about my needs and he said he and his dad would come by later in the day - a lass neither showed up. The following AM the son called, apologized and we arranged another meet that day. Both dad and son showed up and quoted a price which based on previous tree work I have contracted seemed a little high but again based on my daughter's recommendation we scheduled the work. On the day of the work Mr Lopez shows at the scheduled time apologizing that they need to reschedule for the following day. On that day Mr Lopez again arrived at the scheduled time but advises of another delay but promises the work will get done that day. Noted both reasons for the two delays were reasonable. A few hours all the work was done as agreed - cut and complete removal of one dead 65' monterey pine and the top third of a cypress. They cleaned up the area, were efficient and very respectful. I recommend this service and will contact them again as I have three other monterey pines with fatal symptoms from the dreaded pitch pine beetle. read more

Mike lives in our neighborhood and stated on the Nextdoor application that he offered landscaping services for reasonable prices. I reached out to Mike and requested a quote, he responded immediately and we scheduled an appointment for the same evening. Mike was delayed at a previous job just before our appointment, but kept us updated regarding his status. He finally made it to our home, met with my husband and promised a quote, but its now been 5 days and still no quote and NO response to my follow up emails regarding the status of the quote. Needless to say we went with another contractor as if Mike is unreliable with a simple quote I am ambivalent about the quality of his work. read more

In 2009, Mike Lopez poorly pruned a large cypress tree. He cut back too severely the limbs. The green crown/growth slowly turned brown/dry. This poor pruning combined with an area drought killed the tree. Please note that other cypress trees--properly pruned--did NOT die in this drought period since 2009. I made the mistake of selecting the lowest bidder rather than selecting an experienced pruner Possibly Lopez can cut down trees but he cannot prune. It feels wonderful to review a contracting experience that you want the world to know about. It was that good. Mike Lopez and crew took down 2 trees the city arborist recommended to go and trimmed another. They did so with not a scratch of damage to the house, fences, (or themselves). And the cleanup job was superb. They cleaned everything: the roof, the sidewalks, the yard, the patio. And they cut us some chunks of trunk that we can use for little seats in the backyard. Called last Friday to setup an appointment and was told that they had a job in Salinas Saturday and that he would be out right after they got going to look at the work we needed. I text him later that night asking him to come after 10am Saturday no response. I then called Saturday morning and he said his dad would be at our house between 4-6pm. Still a no show even then. While I know people are still busy with storm damage a call saying they cant come or that they aren't available to do the job would have been nice. read more
