My weather station informed me that we've received less than 10 inches of rain this year, making it one of the driest winters I can recall. We reside in a fantastic location (this doesn't escape me, we are super fortunate), but the threat of wildfires looms large, and gone are days where it's just a few-month issue, but a constant hazard throughout the year. I've already developed a comprehensive fire safety plan, but I believe expanding our DMZ firebreak, as it were, would be a prudent move all things considered (thx Gavin). While we take great pride in handling all the tasks ourselves around the property, I decided to call in some muscle (forestry equipment) in this instance for a day with Tope's Tree Service to see what they could accomplish. Their efforts exceeded my expectations, and I was a little like a kid by the dodgems wanting a go! After seeing what was there, a skid steer and a drum mulcher wouldn't have been effective with the terrain and the density of vegetation. I dare say I could have accomplished this task over a month or so with an ATV, chainsaw, chipper, Tickshield, and plenty of IvyX. However, the expertise of an experienced operator and the power of a specialized machine proved to be far more efficient and effective in just a single day. Get the right tools for the right application... hmmm, a good lesson for work and play I posit ! Great Job, highly recommended, had interactions at all levels of the business and couldn't fault their professionalism, integrity or end results Video here - https://youtu.be/968jDUhEHUA?si=MTdBpacnbl8wlknW read more

Total rip off for private homeowners whom they charge excessive amounts. I have personal experience with this policy. They do good work but at much higher cost than a number of other tree services. read more

Andrew was recommended to me for fire hardening and tree trimming and he did an excellent job. He was responsive and very helpful throughout the entire process. I am grateful for Andrew and would recommend him and his team to anyone. read more

Tree trimming work was incomplete, and they left debris all over the backyard. When I called to have them comeback out and finish the job quoted, it took them over 2 weeks to reschedule. Jesse, the person who handles the phone traffic is terrible. Does not return calls or emails, and you have to constantly chase him down with multiple calls. Would not recommend. read more

Great, professional crew. Took down 2 large trees in Carmel quickly and with precision. Good communication, cleaned up and chipped all the debris. read more

I had a few big limbs hanging after a storm. I called Topes and they came out the next day to look at it sent a few men the next day and handled it with ease! Very professional team I can't recommend enough! Thank you Topes! read more

I had a complex tree removal job. Tope's was professional in estimation and scheduling. On the day of the job, they were punctual and extremely competent. The job was done without a problem and care was taken to be safe and to protect my property. I truly want to give Tope's a 100% grade for their part in my tree removal job. Their three-man crew was tops. read more

The recent major storm caused havoc and Topes came out lickety split to remove the fallen trees. Them being so prompt was a major plus. Very pleased. read more

A December, 2024, storm caused a pine limb to fall on my roof. I called Tope's for removal of other dead & broken limbs. They gave me an estimate and I approved on December 20. They told me they would schedule my work. Weeks went by and I had to call to find out they would do my work on January 31, promising to be at my house early that morning. On that morning, I woke early and, at 9:00 am, called to inquire where they were. I was told there had been an "emergency" (although no one called me about it) and they could not do the work. They suggested doing the job ten days later. Remember that January, 2025, went by without storms or rain so they cannot claim impossible conditions. I know it's not brain surgery but their unprofessional scheduling caused difficulties and disappointment. read more

From start to finish Tope's delivered wonderfully. I had a fair amount of work done over a two day period. Everyone was polite, professional, and enjoyable to interact with. This is the second large job I've entrusted to Tope's. Did so well the first time twenty years ago they were my first call this time. I highly recommend Tope's. They weren't the cheapest in either case for me, but their reputation carried them twenty years ago as it does today! read more

We had used Tope previously on a trimming job when I called to get an estimate for trimming several trees and removal of a tree. The estimator came out and spent a good amount of time walking around and looking at all the work we wanted done. He said we'd be getting an estimate and that's the last we heard. I hate having my time wasted. Just rude. read more

Like most of the Peninsula, the 2022-23 winter storms did significant tree damage to our property. Tope's came through. First, they immediately sent a crew with a crane to handle a tree that was in urgent need of removal, because otherwise it would have fallen on our neighbor's house. Over the following months they sent crews probably a dozen times, with different specialized equipment to clean up the rest of the damage. Throughout the operation they kept the worksite as clean as possible, and all of the crews were friendly and highly capable. I would use Tope's again and highly recommend them. Tope's honored the original estimate, and made cleaning up and dealing with this disaster the least stressful possible. read more

A huge cypress tree fell in our backyard. Tope's came out with a crew the same day, on a Sunday and started removing it. They were done with this massive tree by Wednesday. Great professional crews and they did outstanding work. Check out the attached pictures. read more

Eric and his crew did a wonderful job trimming my large oak tree in Pacific Grove. Three of them worked for 4hours and were not shy about cutting whatever they could. Used bucket truck and moved it several times to access all parts of the tree. Tree is now open and will be better at withstanding winter weather. read more

We needed to have several trees removed from our property. Some were diseased and some were hazardous. Tope's was very responsive to our needs and our budget. They provided full service of tree removal and stump grinding. They were very respectfully of our property and left it in very clean condition. They offered to leave Chipped. material or take it away. Their garden center is amazing with wide range of plants, trees, rock, pavers and complete landscaping services. We purchased replacement boxed native trees from their garden center and they planted the trees for us. We will definitely be using Tope's again for additional tree removal and landscaping services. Good value, good crew, good dispatch, overall just a really good experience working with them. Note that I have worked with many tree companies for various projects. This project with Tope's was for multiple tree removals and not any precise pruning so I can't comment on that. They have good equipment too. read more

Topes tree service was hired by our homeowners association to remove a very large tree adjacent to my condominium. The roots of the tree had pushed my patio up about a foot, and the foundation of my house was jeopardized. Sadly, this magnificent tree had to be cut down. Topes arrived on time, and throughout the day carefully took the tree down, section by section with surgical skill. When they were finished, the crew cleaned up the area, including both of my patios which had been covered with sawdust. They could not have done a better job...these gentlemen are real professionals and I highly recommend them. They did a fabulous job! read more

If you want to hire the worst tree service in town, give Tope's a call. While removing a tree off of my roof they managed to destroy four of my planted trees that had perfectly hidden the view of my neighbors yard..they had grown over 4 ft since planted nearly 3 yrs ago. They also destroyed my fence.. Accidents do happen, so I called numerous times and sent letters for them to compensate me for the damage, to no avail . Now I have an Attorney dealing with it.. After this experience I spoke with several people and they said this wasn't the first time they heard about Topes damaging property while removing trees and doing nothing to rectify their mistakes.. Greedy obnoxious owner, to boot... read more

I called these guys when I wanted to make a swing for my grandkids but first needed to get a few branches professionally removed. I'm sorry but I asked for a free quote to have my mother's front and back lawn mowed due to it being overgrown with weeds after recent rains. The house is vacant as I am taking care of my mother now who has dementia so I have to take her everywhere with me so I cannot cut the grass myself as I have to keep my mother away from her house as she feels she can live alone by herself which she cannot. I used to cut the grass maybe once every 2 to 3 months as it isn't being watered. So I asked for a one time mowing service which shouldn't have cost more than 150 dollars. I was asked if I wanted them to take away some trash accumulated along the side of the house and I said yes. I was given a quote of $800.00. I asked how much just to cut the grass for maybe a 1500 square foot lawn. I was told $600.00. I said no and then was asked how much I wanted to pay. I told them to forget it as I wasn't interested in their overinflated price quote. read more

We've hired many tree-trimming services over the years, and Tope's more than once. I have always been pleased with Tope's. This year the 3-man Tope's crew that worked here all day did such an over-the-top great job that I had to write a review. We have a sloped lot with restricted access that presents a challenge. The Tope's gentlemen restored our view, did exactly what I'd hoped for, and then did an extraordinary job of clean-up. They also knocked on the door, after all was complete, to ask if we were satisfied. We reviewed all the trees, together, and I thanked them for a great job. I sure appreciate it! read more

These guys were quick and efficient. We had a plum tree that was growing up next to our foundation and had to go. It was a small project, so we got scheduled to be done on the way home from bigger projects. When the guys arrived the tree was gone and chipped 15 minutes later. My only faults with the process was that I had to check in to get my estimate and to schedule the tree removal, and that we had to wait almost a week to get the stump ground out (apparently the grinder doesn't travel with the chipper). But the work that was done was great, and very clean. They did a great job sweeping up when they were done. read more

I'd give them 10 stars if I could. We live in a townhome community with over 50 trees. They beautifully trimmed and shaped each of our mature trees, bringing out the beauty in each tree. They were very professional and took extra care with both cars and small plants. They took out a 60+ year cypress without damaging any of the groundcover or surrounding plants. If it wasn't for the stump you wouldn't have even known they worked the area. Highly recommend Topes read more

"Lousy" would be a compliment. Arrogant and grumpy supervisor comes to your house after a storm and acts like he's doing you a favor by removing a storm-downed tree from your roof. After multiple calls, Mr. Grumps deigns to provide a written estimate to remove the rest of the tree. Then, Mr. Grumps ignores tree debris in a neighbor's yard. When challenged, he harumphs, "That'll be extra." Less than 3 weeks after the work was completed, they send me a legal notice that liens against my property are a possibility. Great salesmanship! I was warned, but foolishly ignored the advice. Next time, I'll call Boy Scouts with hatchets. At least they'll be more pleasant. read more

They cut trees down, but aren't friendly! If a bunch of guys are going to stand around in my backyard at 8 am I would like them at least to be friendly while I'm making my coffee. They broke a bucket on my property and never came back to look and replace, although they said they would. I'd look further. read more

When you live in Del Monte Forest, by definition you will need to have a relationship with a great tree service company. Over the past 7 years, nature has taken down many trees on my property. Often falling across the driveway. Andy Topes and his team have always responded immediately to clear my path and clean up any fallen trees and also make recommendations on trees that appear risky. I highly recommend Tope's Tree Service for anyone in the Pebble Beach neighborhood. You'll be glad you did. read more

Removing a 50' dead Monterey Pine tree takes patience and skill! I was very impressed by the team assigned to the job. A mistake could've been a disaster. Tope's prices are fair and competitive. I took care of the permit process. Andrew dealt with the neighbors that were not too excited about having a crane and equipment in their parking lot for six hours. I really appreciated his handling of a difficult situation. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because sometimes agreements between Andrew and me were not always communicated to his staff. read more

Went over the work that I wanted specifically wanted done. Owner came out beforehand and seemed to understand what I wanted. After 2 days, the crew told me they were finished. I went to look, and they had not done what I had expected. Lack of communication between owner and crew. Owner never came back to see how work was being done even after my complaint on the second day and the promise that he would come talk to me. Asked 4 times for a specific oak branch that was laying on a fence to be cut, but it never was. They left dead branches in the trees, and did not leave wood chips as I requested. Did minimum work to complete the job. Left me unhappy. read more

We were very impressed with the professionalsm and expertise of William and Jesse. They made a very complex job of lifting a huge tree limb off of our roof look simple. This is a local family business with up to date equipment and skills. Tope is tops! read more

I was quite disappointed in my efforts to work with this company. At first I was struck by the gruff attitude of the guy that came out to make the estimate. But I figured I'd still give them a try. The soonest they could schedule the service was 3 weeks out. I was hoping for more timely scheduling, but again, I figured I give them a try. Then I called to add an item to the work order and asked for an updated estimate. I never heard back. Finally, no one showed up on the day for the service! When I called to find out why I was told it was an oversight and the soonest they could reschedule me was in a week. I'd had it by that point. I cancelled the order and found an alternative company to work with. read more

We've had Tope's Tree Service perform tree work four times now. Once, they came at a moment's notice when a large tree branch dropped on our neighbor's house. They quickly were able to stabilize the situation and safely remove the branch and ultimately the dying tree. Three times they have come to trim trees for us. The most recent time was yesterday. While we have always been happy with Tope's work, yesterday, the crew under Rafael's direction just went above and beyond. They did a beautiful job shaping and trimming our trees. They were very efficient and knowledgeable and explained everything. They really did a great job for an appropriate price. We definitely recommend this company highly. read more

I can't say enough (all good) about Tope's tree service. Raphael and Francisco were not only efficient, skilled and professional, they also took care of the details!! Removed several big and unsafe limbs from large pine tree, but also cleaned out old dead limbs as well. They were careful with existing landscape and cleaned up the area perfectly after they finished the work on the tree. I am totally happy with the work of these very competent guys!! Thank you!! read more

Tope's tree service cut down a Monterey Pine that was partially on my property, without my permission or notification. They not only trespassed on my property and cut down a beautiful tree, but also damaged my fence and left it flat on the ground. I phoned, sent an email with photos of the damage, and after one return phone call from the owner saying "he'd find out what was going on," I never heard back. I would never, never ever use this unprofessional tree service. read more

Andrew and his crew did an amazing job removing two large trees, both of which were very close to my house. As I live in PG, tree removal can sometimes be a delicate process, but Tope's submitted the required reports and followed up in a very timely manner. The remote control stump grinder was amazing! As to another reviewer's comments regarding the unfriendliness of the workers, I must respectfully disagree. While they were not "chatty", they were very responsive to my questions and requests during the process of pruning and removal of dead limbs on additional trees in the yard. Tree work is very dangerous; of course they are more focused on the job rather than socializing with the homeowner! The crew also cleaned everything up - it's almost like the trees were never there! read more

We are very pleased with the work that Topes did for us at our home in Prunedale. We had 3 very tall eucalyptus trees that were unstable and over power lines. Finding people to even bid on the job was difficult as it was a busy time for tree services, not too long after major storms. We were able to get a few companies to look at the job and no one except for Topes was even willing to do the job at all. It required skill and specialized equipment.....a large crane/bucket. Topes responded quickly to our need ( one tree was already uprooted and at a 45 degree angle resting against another tree) and they scheduled the job in a very timely fashion. The work was done well and safely, and the property was left in good shape when they finished. The crew seemed skilled and hardworking. read more

These guys are great! I had to have a couple very large trees removed and a giant old stump. They were on time, friendly, efficient and best of all they did a good clean up!
