I had 4 trees worked on by Moki's Tree Service. 1 Large Valley Oak, 2 Small Coastal Oaks and 1 Podocarpus. The Valley Oak is actually my neighbors and has been cared for by Moki for at least 20yrs. The tree has a new owner and I asked neighbor if we could call Moki to limb up Oak off my roof. The crew did a nice job, I appreciated the extra limb removal off my roof line as I was getting a-lot of debris and causing some water back ups/leaks. This had to be done over 2 days, since the day they came it was raining and unsafe to climb tree. The Coastal Oaks, 1 limbed up real good. The other had to be removed because it was beginning to impede on my underground utilities. This was quite a process in Morgan Hill as all Oaks are a protected species and this required a permit. The process just to get the permit took about 2 1/2 months and of course extra fees. The Pordocarpus was limbed up nicely and looks great! Moki's crew did a nice job on all aspects. I feel my job drug on for quite a bit (late September-January), granted it went into the holidays and had a lengthy permit process with the City. At times Nathan and J had some communication issues, however each time we did connect he was respectful and professional. I will be seeing them again in a few years to keep that Large Valley Oak off my roof. Thanks for your service! read more

We had Moki come out and inspect our redwoods and get a quote to trim the big tree in the front. He was prompt, professional & offered a fair quote. After a few reschedules, one on our part & one on theirs, they arrived to do the work. Unfortunately their lift was in the shop so they climbed the tree and trimmed it by hand. Awesome job. Our massive 300 year old Valley Oak came down with the number 12 atmospheric river. We were in mourning at the loss of such a majestic tree, it was a part of our family. On the day of our consultation no one showed up at the schedule time. We made a phone call to see what happened. We were told that his son was called to an emergency and somehow that wasn't communicated to us. Moki was able to come himself however made it a point to say he was out in the middle of him having breakfast with his wife. We put that aside after Moki seemed very knowledgeable about the trees and what we were looking to do. He made it sound like it wasn't a big job and that they could come out after a morning job. Well, we were told he would be out on a day, never showed up. Got a call saying they would be out on a Saturday 2/23, and nothing text saying he would call to reschedule. Was going to be out another day during the week, no show, we had to call and Moki came to the house saying they couldn't do it. Finally, he said he would come on Saturday 3/1 at 8 am, once again no show and no call. When we texted him he said he couldn't come out today. We finally said we longer wanted his service. Wether a job is large or small, you should keep to your word and your appointment time. He could have just said it's a job too small from the beginning and we could have looked for another company to give our business to. read more

My trees were all over grown or sad and dead. They came out next day for an estimate. I think it was super reasonable for the amount of work that needed to be done. They came out the next week to do the fertilizer treatment of my sad Carolina cherries. The rain came and so it was a few more days before they could come back out and remove my dead tree and trim the others. They did a fantastic job. My trees were trimmed with surgical precision. I still have the privacy we planted the trees for but now they are back on track to growing in the correct shape. The dead tree that was very close to my home is gone. They rescheduled two more times and did not come both times. They then told us to hire someone else as they were "slammed" with work. Moki Smith is great. He was trimming some huge Oaks in Morgan Hill that are probably 200 plus years old. Believe me you have know your trees to prune these. They were also replacing support cables. I figured if they can do these trees pruning my Australian Willow and Olive tree should not be a problem. I was right about that! Moki came out and gave me a quote and called back to setup an appointment. I wanted the trees thinned and shaped. His crew did a great job. Based on a strong recommendation from a horticulturalist B , I hired Moki Smith for tree pruning in past and recently requested a bid for another pruning sevice. Since Moki prefers to do outside projects and consulting services he leaves the day to day running of the business to his employees. He has lost former clients due to his poorly run business. The first time around I recieved a quote from Moki and was followed up by a higher one from another employee. I could go on but it was a mess with his office staff too. When I complained " oh but she is such a good person" is the reply I recieved from Moki. This recent second time around another scheduling mess up and miscommunication by " sales manager ", Nathan. ( area code 669) . I had scheduled a time so both moki and I could meet and to understand his recommendations for my trees. Unfortunately, another mess up! He came by while I was not at home and made his review of my trees and instead sent his " sales manager", Nathan to give me a quote at the agreed on appointment time. Again another screw up! We wanted to like him and initially found him knowledgeable and personable. Although he did a good job pruning other 5-year-old trees in our yard, his unsupervised crew nearly decimated my 3 Bay Laurel bushes even though we confirmed with him that day exactly what we wanted. These lush, dense slow-growing bushes were trimmed into small, sparse trees. Nearly 5 years of growth destroyed. He promised to mitigate the damage, but never followed through and finally just stopped communicating. in addition, we never got a written quote and he initially charged us $150 more than he had originally stated. Stars removed for poor communication, promises made and not kept, confusing billing, and damage to the Bay Laurels. One star for a decent job on the remaining trees and a decent price. There were a lot of decorative pots right next to each tree and not only weren't they damaged but they were returned in better shape.
