Quality Arbor Care are Artists! Super skilled. We were scared to have our large redwood thinned & trimmed, but Q.A.C. did such an amazing job that we regret not doing it sooner. We didn't know it was possible to do what they did -- we'd only seen bad jobs, and thought that was the best to expect with a redwood. But no, they gave our very large tree a beautiful symmetry and beautiful shape, and we have no idea how they got it so right. Excellent communication between the crew and whoever is spotting from the ground, we assume. This crew has a terrific energy, with great camaraderie. Things started well...but sputtered and died. The owner, Henry, came out on a timely basis. He took time to look at my yard and the tree pruning I wanted, giving advice as I asked for it. I asked him to itemize each item with its cost in his bid. He said that would make the bid higher because he couldn't be sure what work he'd end up getting. I told him that was fine because the other companies were also bidding in that manner. He was friendly, we chatted, he left, giving me a date for when he'd send the bid. Nothing arrived the day he promised, nor several days after. I called the office and the support person said she'd work with Henry to get it to me very soon. The bid arrived in a day or two, BUT it was not itemized, as I thought we'd agreed. The company's bid was the lowest of four companies so I decided to use them. I did have two questions and I phoned the office and asked for Henry to call me. I called back two more times over a few days because no call came. No one ever called. I gave up and went with someone else. I'm glad I learned about Quality Arbor's lack of follow through before I had them do any work--the money saved would not have been worth it in the long term. read more

I was very impressed with the tree-trimming work that Quality Arbor Care did at my Aptos house. My house is surrounded by redwoods and live oak and also has a large cedar tree, all of which had branches that needed to be cut away from the house and from power lines. They came with a large crew and truck and did a wonderful job both with the trimming and with cleaning up and hauling away the wood afterwards. We are planning to have our driveway replaced, so, in preparation, we decided to have a large olive tree removed. Its roots were lifting the current driveway and we didn't want that to happen again. Plus, the pollen was doing us in! Our gardener thought he could remove the tree and stump, but he discovered that the root ball was enormous! It was like an iceberg, where what we could see above ground was nothing compared to what was hiding below! I looked on Yelp for a tree-service company and noted three that had solid ratings. I looked on each of their websites and all advertised stump grinding. I called the first one and left a message--no one ever called me back. I called the second company and their phone rang and rang and rang, with no answer or opportunity to leave a message. Thank goodness I, then, called Quality Arbor Care. Donna immediately answered my call and got me scheduled for an estimate. She looked for a day on their schedule when the crew would already be working in my city, thinking they may be able to do the work on the same day. Henry arrived right on time on the day of our appointment, quickly sized up the job, and gave an oral estimate. It sounded good to us, so he said the crew would likely be there that afternoon. Donna called that afternoon to get my email address, so she could send an official written estimate, and she let me know that the crew would be there in about an hour. The crew arrived. They strategized how to approach the stump, set up large pieces of plywood to protect nearby windows, plants and retaining walls, then got to work. Once the beast was demolished, they cleaned up all of the sawdust and larger wood bits. Quality Arbor Care was professional, responsible, friendly, and did excellent work. I just can't recommend this company highly enough! I lost a big oak in last winter's storms and needed the stump removed. I also have two bigger oaks that were quite 'heavy' and needed thinning and lifting. Henry the owner came out to bid the project, and I instantly got a good feeling about him. Hired this company twice this year: the first time, to remove several trees including old, gnarled wild plum trees that were crowding against the house and fence, creating problems. The crew was FAST and navigated the narrow spaces with ease, not even scratching the house or fence. They removed the trees and ground the stumps down, and there was not a trace left. The second time, they came out to prune a Live Oak tree that was covering part of the roof. The crew did a beautiful job, removed the branches from the roof and cleaned it up, and pruned and shaped the tree so it looks healthy and beautiful. These folks are great, including the office manager Donna who is always so helpful. Everyone is easy to talk to, and they care about the work and do a fast, thorough and excellent job. I had a couple specific requests and the arborists were really helpful and informative. After the tree work, the crew cleaned up the yard so well that it looked better than before! read more

We had another company come give us a quote, and they were more expensive for less work. When Henry came out, he was very thorough when examining our trees. He noticed a lot of things the other company didn't, like that there were some broken branches that were precarious, and one of our pine trees had bark beetles. When we went to book them, they were very busy and it was going to be 2-3 months until they could come do the job. However, when they found an opening in their schedule, they called us and bumped us up a little sooner. We had 3 pines, a loquat, and a cedar that all needed work. They trimmed 2 of the pines, removed all the dead branches and shaped them so they would grow more evenly and in the directions we want them to. One pine was hanging over the house, and Henry noticed that the slight angle/lean of its growth meant that it should be growing a thicker base on that side to compensate for the weight, but it wasn't doing that. They intentionally trimmed that side more to shift the weight of the tree, and pull it away from the house. They removed the pine with the bark beetles and left a stump maybe 1 foot high. The biggest pine had the most broken branches and was growing in crazy ways. It also had dead limbs hanging on the power lines into our house. PG&E said they were our responsibility, and Henry made it an easy process. We didn't need to turn the power off or anything. The loquat was thick and heavy, and hanging over half of our house. It's also a tree that our landlords (my grandparents in-laws) are sentimental about and wanted to look very nice. Henry's guys delivered. The loquat is gorgeous. They thinned out the inner branches, lifted it up off of the house, and shaped it beautifully. Our yard now gets a lot more light and the trees look great. They also cleaned up the yard and left it nicer than when they arrived. When they took all the trimmings, they must have raked or something as well. There's no debris on the roof or in the gutters, and all they left were some of the bigger chunks of the pine that was cut down, as we agreed. Finally, they were flexible about how to receive payment. All in all, we highly recommend these guys. read more

I highly recommend Henry & his Quality Arbor Care crew for Santa Cruz properties particularly! Needed to get a baseline of the health of a Redwood grove in Santa Cruz, and wanted a local expert who is familiar with the Coastline Redwood trees, weather & soil conditions. I got 3 quotes from local Tree services, as well as a recommended Arborist consultant all came out to survey the trees. As it turned out, they all agreed that one of the 100+ft Redwood trees was very sick and needed to come down ASAP. After reviewing quotes, it was decided to work with Henry & Quality Arbor Care for a list of reasons, several of which were 1) neighbors highly recommended him, 2) price AND schedule all aligned. It was early December, Henry had already talked directly to Leslie Keedy, the City of Santa Cruz Urban Forester and was able to get an Emergency Tree Removal Permit quickly. Due to location, it was decided rather than take it all down, they'd cut approx 50ft off down to the split, and cable the split to minimize the danger of the tree falling down. It was quite a show of strength with his large crew and it is a noisy endeavor between the sounds of the chainsaws, wood grinder and guys yelling above the noise but Henry had advised going in.. The large strong crew spent much of the day, and hardly left a twig behind!* Another client on a hilltop property had a Redwood tree fall early last year from months of severe winds and torrential rains causing poor soil conditions.. I searched for a reliable company to do the work needed and checked on yelp.com Made some calls to companies, some never called back or had no opportunity to leave messages. Quality Arbor Care was very responsive, acknowledged that I was calling during the "busy season" but willing to come out quickly for an estimate. Henry arrived when promised, discussed the scope of the project with me so that we were both clear on my request. I added another tree and some shrub removal. He wrote up an estimate on the spot. I was so impressed with his communication skills, good price, and willingness to do the job, despite being already busy. I called the next day to accept the quote and to be added to the list of projects. I called back after a few weeks and received a date and time for the project. Henry's crew said they'd show up at 8am and they did. Instantly our street was busy with probably four vehicles, one with a "bucket" to reach the top of our tree, a chipper and a bunch of friendly workers. By about 9:45am the job was completely done, all debris removed, and the yard looking tidy. My husband was in awe when he came home. My neighbors are still in awe as well. We had a great experience with Quality Arbor Care. We just moved from upstate New York to Aptos. The trees on the lot had not been attended to for some time. We picked Quality Arbor based on recommendations from our daughter and online reviews. We called Quality Arbor, and Henry stopped by to see what needed to be trimmed or removed. Within a couple of days, he provided a detailed contract. He scheduled us a few weeks out. These folks are very busy. Yesterday Henry arrived with his crew as promised. He walked around the lot with his five-person crew and read each item of the contract. After Henry left, the team sprang into action. At least four chainsaws were running. Each crew member picked a task, and they worked non stop for 2 1/2 hours. I watched as the tree trimmers would trim some branches and step back to look at the shape. They used chainsaws, pole trimmers and even hand clippers to do the work. When they finished the tree work, they raked and blew all of the debris, leaving the place cleaner than when they arrived. The crew was friendly, and you could tell they have worked together for some time. Henry and his partner were always responsive and professional. Here is their task list: Back Yard 1. Lightly thin and shape Japanese Maple in backyard releasing the roof line of the house. 2. Remove two smaller Bottlebrush shrubs along back fence line leaving the largest one in the center. 3. Lift, canopy clean, reduce and shape for balance remaining Bottlebrush. 4. Remove small declining Cherry and grind the stump. 5. Lightly thin and shape for balance 2 Crepe Myrtles. 6. Remove all Passion Vines on the arbor and grind stumps. Front Yard 7. Remove one small Dogwood, 1 Redbud and the Plum tree closest to the garage and grind stumps. 8. Canopy clean, reduce and shape for balance Plum closest to the street. 9. Canopy clean, thin and shape for balance Silver Maple in the front yard. Chip and haul brush. Haul wood. Henry and his fantastic crew took out 3 GIANT eucalyptus trees on our property. The trees were located within inches of a sidewalk, and had branches hanging over a two-story structure. The team arrived promptly at 8:00 and in less than a minute they were in the trees working. It was like watching a well-oiled machine as they all worked in-sync. They brought the trees down with mathematical precision. By early afternoon they had finished, the trees were gone, and the work site was spotless. These people are wonderful. WE didn't use them for tree trimming but they came to help us get our kitty out of a tall redwood tree in our alley. Todd came, climbed the redwood tree and ever so sweetly got out little cat into his arms and into a canvas bag to safely take her back to us. They did this all for free! I have a big cypress that needed two large branches cut off. One was cracked and resting atop the other, and could become dangerous at some point. There were also a couple of smaller oak trees that were rotten and needed removing for safety reasons. I added pruning my two little apple trees, no problem.
