In a difficult area and spread out, so 5 to 7 minutes to pick-up
    Ken B.

I'm being generous, bumping their stars from 4 1/2 to 5. Based only on failure to completely clean up their debris (see photos) and a little incomplete understanding by the workers of some their tasks, La Selva gets my rating of 4 1/2. Overall, the manager Nick and tree climbers Christian and Jesus get 5 stars for their tree pruning. Ask for them. The first problem is the debris. I saw one tree whose debris was not completely picked up prior to the workers leaving. Nick told them to clean it up and it was done well. The other areas I missed on our walk-through because I focused on the tree pruning itself. Afterwards, I found that at least three of the areas they pruned were incompletely cleaned up; one other section I haven't had time to look at. The photos show most of the debris. It represents 20 minutes or so of my time. Apparently, the workers cleaned up mostly by using a large blower. There remained a significant amount for me to clean up. There were at least three pruning jobs that the workers didn't know or had forgotten about. They were done well when Nick told them what had been missed. I had Nick add on one small job, his cost being $100. Since I was there, I watched the job being done. It took 10 minutes or less, with there being one trimmer and one foreman looking on. I thought $100 was excessive and Nick reduced the cost satisfactorily. Before deciding what company to use, I requested an itemization of the estimate of cost--by each area and tree, when that was appropriate. This might seem standard, but one outfit told me it was unusual, said they would do that, and then did not. It helps to have that information, because it could lead to negotiation about the cost. It also is helpful to have several itemized estimates, for the same reason. Nick was very responsive to texts and phone calls. He also had a detailed memory or notes that allowed him to communicate well with me and his workers. Despite the irritations of incomplete clean-up and workers needing to be supervised, I highly recommend La Selva.

    After shot. Three trees trimmed

Very friendly, clean, careful with landscape, arrived on time, & were competitively priced! We will use this family owned & operated business going forward at both our properties. The trimmed 3 trees & strapped a broken limb up that we wanted to keep.

Excellent experience from start to finish. Great interactions with everyone, from the initial tree consultation to the hard-working and efficient crew to the friendly staff managing scheduling and billing. We had our Chinese Elm, Bottlebrush, and Birch trees all trimmed and cleaned up, what a difference to the light in both the yard and the house.

This was my second time using La Selva. They removed two oaks from my property the other day and they did a great job. One of the oak trees was in a difficult location in my opinion and they did phenomenal! No damage to the chicken coop under the tree, the fence and my landscaping was unharmed. Polite and courteous crew also. I for sure recommend this company!

I hired La Selva Tree care January 2024 to remove a large redwood tree that involved crane service. My main concern was if the crane would crack the concrete driveway considering the amount of weight. The sales rep gave me the contact information for the crane company they use as a subcontractor. I was able to get ahold of the crane company "Arbor Lyft" and the owner assured me that his 6x6 wood pads would be all the protection needed to prevent any damage to the driveway. When they brought the crane over they placed one of the support legs on the edge of the driveway with a scrawny piece of plywood beneath that overlapped the concrete and the dirt (pic 1). This caused the outer band of the driveway to crack (pic 2). Long story short about 4-6 months after the job they finally sealed the crack in the outer band of the driveway to hopefully prevent any further damage from moisture. The company had to be contacted multiple times for them to make any effort in fixing the damage. Although I appreciate the fact they sealed the crack it still didn't bring the driveway to its original condition. Another issue I had was the crane service was in the contract as a fixed fee and the email prior to the job stated the crane would be there for 2 days (Pic 3). Day 1 of crane service didn't go well as the crane operator loaded the log transportation truck incorrectly causing a delay. The logs were so jammed in the transport truck that the driver couldn't unload and had to drive all the way back to the job to have it reloaded. This caused the crane to be on job for a second day which was to be expected but the desk lady at La Selva Tree care tried to claim they would now need to charge a higher final price (pic 4) and the original bid was for only 1 day crane service. Not to mention the contract was ALL FLAT FEES. There was no mention of them being able to charge more money in the end. Also the subcontractor who transported the logs ended up charging full amount for his hourly rate even though he had to make an extra trip due to loading error. What a mess this company caused, never hiring or ever recommending to my worst enemy.

This involved pouring over 1,500 sq. ft. of concrete, a large retaining wall, a patio deck, a new lawn, and a playground area. Here were some of the highlights of my experience: - Design Guidance: I relied heavily on Baltazar's experience and keen sense of design. His elegant hardscaping solution for the pool transition zones exceeded my expectations and tied the yard together perfectly. - The grading and drainage were very well done. Despite heavy rains, there was zero pooling; the rain gutters were routed directly into pipes beneath the concrete for a clean, streamlined look. - Smart Home Integration: All landscape lighting and irrigation were hooked up to smart-home enabled controllers for total automation and convenience. - The office staff was very responsive, addressing any concerns or follow-up questions usually within a single business day. Props to Gladys and Dahlia! Highly recommended!

It was over 3500 sq ft of lawn and irrigation, as well as concrete fixes around other parts of our property and pool tile repair. I chose them because they had the best strategy to combat the problem, even though they weren't the cheapest quote we received. I wanted the fix to last long term, not just hold me over for a year or two before another gopher invasion destroys our yard. Everything was extremely professional and delivered to contract specifications. We were extremely happy with the results. They had to move a portion of our fence to get the big equipment in but you wouldn't even know it had been moved because they were total pros putting things back. When we asked for additional scope of work (a French drain), they were quick to get back to me with a quote and incorporating the additional work didn't push out the timeline. All in all, highly recommend and we'll definitely use them again for our landscaping needs.

We just moved into a new space and the backyard was really out of control and we didn't know where to start. When I say out of control, I mean it all looked like one big bush, you couldn't tell where one plant began and ended. Daniel came in to the rescue and finessed his way through the shrubs to unveil the plants beneath. We had a garden again. I want to point out that there are two ways you can cut, aggressively or thoughtfully. Daniel cuts thoughtfully, tracing through each branch and each vine to ensure the best outcome for every plant. Lastly, I want to mention how easy it was talking with Daniel. He gave us advice on how to maintain the garden, was gracious with his time, and there was no up-selling or pressure. Also, he only uses organic products such as neem oil to help protect freshly cut branches. I highly recommend working with Daniel if you want someone who will not only do a great job, but will work on each plant as its own specialist, only cutting what's needed and pruning at the optimal time for each plant in your garden. If this all sounds good to you, give him a call, see your garden transform and have your flowers blossom like never before.

Most of my previous review is still accurate, but I don't think he is easy to work with or particularly kind. Daniel has a very specific issue with dog waste, and we have a dog - though he has been touchy about other subjects as well. We talked about this matter prior to signing the contract and agreed that we would clean up after our dog before he arrived. This later turned into a nightmare, as we ended up stressing more over whether or not the yard was completely poop free than we did about caring for our plants and garden. One day, he arrived on a day that we had taken pains to clean up prior to his arrival. Unbeknownst to us, our dog had "gone" outside MINUTES before his arrival, and Daniel blundered foot first into fresh doodoo lying in plain sight on the brickwork. He went ballistic, raising his voice and swearing at me, threatening to tear up the contract and lecturing me for this minor transgression. At that point, we apologized and promised to be more careful about cleaning up after our pet prior to his arrival. It was fine for a while, until a second incident many months later. On that other occasion, Daniel arrived on a day when we were not expecting him and had not cleaned up prior to his visit. I later noticed his arrival on the doorbell camera history logs, though I was away for work at the time he showed up. He had taken one look at our backyard and left without saying anything or contacting me in any way. I called him to explain that we didn't know he would be coming that day and to apologize for the presence of excrement in the yard. Daniel berated me over the phone and finally said, and I quote, "I don't want to play with you guys anymore." That was the end of our use of his services. In conclusion, you can work with Daniel at your own risk. I feel compelled to withdraw my recommendation based on the interactions that I have had with him, but I remain impressed, at least, with the quality of his work. The mental energy expended on this business relationship does not seem worth it to me in hindsight, and it's probably for the best that we parted ways.
