Our meal started out with a generous amount of perfectly cooled water, followed up with an excellent cup of coffee. I ordered a "club-dilla" which was essentially a chicken quesadilla topped in an amazing sauce that had just the right amount of kick. I'm impressed by the elegance of this restaurant while still offering a comfortable environment for families and coffee loving teenagers. The worst restaurant service I have ever experienced. Went on a Sunday morning and decided to try them out. The place wasn't busy maybe 4 tables with 2 waitresses that I seen. We sat at a table and the service was just awful we were asked what we wanted to drink and received coffee then had to ask for creamer which took 5 minutes and after had to ask for sugar which took another 10 minutes. When she dropped off the sugar we had to tell her that we we were ready to order since we've already been there for maybe 20 minutes. She was about to drop off the sugar and walk away and we had to stop her and said we were ready to order. Once our food arrived she never came back to refill drinks or ask us how our food was. The food itself was decent but a lot of things were off like my chips I ordered were tortilla chips for a Ruben? And the fruit cup we order was apples and watermelon was also strange. Also wanted to get a drink and had questions but all she said was I'll give you a minute and walked away. The drinks only had the names of the drink so how was I supposed to know what was in it without asking. She never came back to ask me about a drink so I never got one. Since she never came to us we again had to waive her down for the bill. Overall the service was so poor from our waitress. Kept talking to us like she was in a rush but was calm with other tables maybe for being the only brown people in the restaurant. Felt very uncomfortable. I guess if you're not caucasian, don't go. You can get your order taken by people that smell horrible of weed and watch the cashier sell pot brownies and candy to customers didn't realize this was weed/ coffee shop the food is overpriced and Back again same horrible service you would be better off going to McDonald's or Burger King. They don't even have a true kitchen. They have a panini press and a microwave. I ordered a Ricks breakfast sandwich and the croissant was extra crispy and the egg had turned green in the middle from being overcooked in the microwave. Very disappointed. I've always loved the River Stop Cafe, as I grew up in the area. I came back over the weekend for lunch and had the Yardbird sandwich. It was pretty good - I just wish I got a little more! The star will always be the drinks as I always get a french soda (this last time, a strawberry french soda). Got to try the River Stop Cafe while visiting my friends over the weekend and enjoyed our brunch. I had a Rosa Bud latte/espresso to start, which was really delicious. It was a little oily on top and I'm not sure if it came from the whipped cream, flavor syrup, or possibly butter. Either way, it was great! I ordered The New Mexico for my meal and thought the jalapeño cheddar bratwurst was excellent. I felt the portion was a little small for the price, but I had a bowl of soup as well which ended up being just enough to fill me up. I will say that had my boyfriend been with me, he would have left hungry if he only ordered a single breakfast option. The white bean and pesto soup was also very good. The bread roll that came on the side was a little 'doughy' in texture, and I really liked it. I also loved their oyster crackers. All-in-all, I enjoyed my first experience at the River Stop Cafe. read more

My family and I ate there on 8/23/2020 and our server was Megan. She was not friendly at all and it was a good 20 minutes before she came to take our order! Took forever to get our food and never once we were offered refills on our drinks. I went up to the counter to get refills and she snipped at me "what do you want?" My husband had a Reuben which he said was terrible, I had the Italian Grilled Cheese which was just OK. And not one person "working" there was wearing a mask. read more

we're traveling with our dog. after searching and driving 30minutes from our Airbnb we were delighted to find a local brewery! after spending the morning hiking, we stopped in at Newaygo Brewing, only to be told that their outdoor patio was closed. mind you there were 3 staff members standing around with NO customers! it was suggested that we go across the street & go to Riverstop Saloon and we were welcomed with open arms! we received excellent service & felt very welcome at the hometown bar. would definitely come here again! More and more small towns seem like they're getting modern high quality cafes like this one these days. That's a good thing. In a cool old building in downtown Newaygo, River Stop has free wifi (score!) and a great menu...even offering a separate vegetarian menu board with many tasty looking selections. This coffee shop should be a model of what coffee shops should be. IT IS THAT COOL! A group of friends have an annual bicycle ride from Detroit to Silver Lake. This will be the 4th year we will be doing the ride and let me tell you one of the highlights of the trip is River Stop. Newaygo is our last campsite and to start the day off with amazing coffee and a tasty breakfast is a great way to finish the last 50 miles or so. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. They let 5 dirty, smelly guys in their coffee shop and we are lucky to have found this place. read more

This was one of my favorites places to go growing up in Newaygo.. I moved up north 2 years ago and came back to Newaygo to meet a old friend at the cafe. The service was not good. The person behind the counter said someone will be right with you while continuing to look at his phone then after 10 mins of waiting at the counter a lady greeted us by saying what do you guys want and then want on to say I'll get your drink order after I put these two orders in. She was rude and lazy. We were not pleased and very disappointed. read more

My sister and I were visiting from out of town, and looking for some wifi to work on homework. We came across this Cafe, and wow we loved it! Such a great small town, cozy cafe feel, with AWESOME food and coffee! I had a hazelnut latte in a cute glass cup, and a pita bread pizza. The music and employees were very pleasant and nice. The air conditioning was set on OMG and it froze me out! Their lunch menu looked very interesting so I'll give the place another try. Stopped back for lunch,counter lady was in a much better mood! The tomato/feta soup had fantastic flavor but had to send it back because it was cold. The reuben sandwich was very very good and the coleslaw was the best I've had in a long time. Not only is the decor charming and the food delicious, but the staff is out of this world. I was at River Stop last Saturday and left my glasses case, with glasses inside, on the bar. I live in Evanston, IL and don't know when I'll be back up to Newaygo. Rosa offered to mail the glasses back to me, at no charge. I came to this restaurant with all my family , the lady who took my order was very rude she has blonde hair and pink streaks in it and blue eyes I believe and maybe late thirty's . The lady was instantly pissed we were all there and claimed they close in 30 mins and rudely told up she was gonna have to clean around us . One of the great cafes I ever had the chance to stop by. When I was a merchandiser I was taken as far as Cedar Rapids, to Hesperia. On that route, I would often stop in to this cafe on the main stretch in Newaygo. I highly suggest any of the sandwiches, I was particularly fond of the Thanksgiving Dinner sandwich. This place seems to get better and better every time I visit. Originally from Newaygo, I remember when this place opened for business in the late 90s. It has always been a warm and inviting place. The drinks are made flawlessly and honestly have never had anything I didn't like. Being from a larger city now, I tend to visit Starbucks a lot, but it does not compare with River Stop Café. The service is amazing and personable, the drinks are delicious, and the food is great. The pastry case next to the counter gets me every time. They're just sooo delicious. If you're in the Newaygo area this is the place to get your coffee fix. read more
