Chorizo hash with sourdough bread & mango mimosa
    Elsa G.

Enjoyed my time @ Morning Star Cafe! Really cute spot. The chorizo hash was tasty and perfect portion size. The mango mimosa was a nice touch as well. Love this spot. My waitress Lark was friendly and attentive to the customers. She added to the experience. Recommend this place!

This place is overwhelmingly popular and busy. Expect long wait times. We arrived on a Sunday at 11:30 and were seated at 12:20pm. Luckily there is a bookstore next door with a large children's section and a piano that can be played gently. Once we were seated it took ages for our waitress to brings us water and take our order. In fact, we noticed several other people seated after us, get water and place their order. We were starving and envious of their good service they received. Finally, we were able to put in our order and we waited and waited. We drank a whole carafe of coffee while waiting. In fact, the kids were close to tears when we got our food after 1 pm. That's over 90 minutes of patient and not so patient waiting. The food was good, like how we remembered. We love their southwest take on breakfast. However, my frittata was slightly over cooked and my hubby's potatoes were burnt. I wish they had accommodated my children and expedited their order as some restaurants do. We didn't feel "special" here; just another table of people to serve in order to flip the table for the next set of people. We got the bill and were charged an extra $5 for a temporary "egg surcharge". Our bill for 2 adults and 2 children was over $55 before tip. Kinda crazy for breakfast. However judging on the long line of customers they won't be reducing their prices any time soon. Go if you want a good breakfast but be prepared to wait awhile and pay a premium for it.

Just go. Shut up and go....if there is a long line, just wait it out. Go look at Bookmans. Then go eat here. Top breakfast place anywhere. It's because of the food - and that's their main point.

Waited nearly an hour to be seated and nearly another hour for food since the kitchen was backed up. Food is good but I'm not sure it's worth that long of a wait. We enjoyed two omelettes and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was 10/10 great amazing fantastic but the omelettes were just okay. Omelettes didn't have the veggies/meats cooked with the eggs and instead just filled the middle so they kinda just fell out and made it hard to eat. Cute place inside

We came in for brunch on Sunday 12/29/24 around 12:35pm. There was a 30ish minute wait - as usual, but we were able to sit at the counter right away. Maggie took great care of us. She was so chill and smiley. I had the Corned Beef Hash with 2 over easy eggs and sourdough toast. He had his usual/favorite Marbled Cornbread Scramble. We love Morning Star, highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic breakfast spot. We waited for about 15 minutes at 8am (i thought we would be early but I guess not lol). We started off with coffees and a cinnamon roll. The coffee was great and the cinnamon roll was amazing so goey, warm, and the frosting was spot on. We got the breakfast quesadilla and breakfast burrito with pineapple salsa. Both were fantastic. If you're looking for something with more crunch then the breakfast quesadilla would be your choice. I would have added the pineapple salsa to the quesadilla. There were so many things on the menu to pick from and there is no doubt we would definitely come back.

We arrived mid morning and were able to find street parking right outside the restaurant. We gave our name, was told it would be 20 minutes (they were packed) and 20 minutes later we got notification that our table was ready. The decor is super cute, mosaics of Fiesta ware on the walls. Tables and booths are good size. Our waitress convinced us to try a cinnamon roll as an appetizer to our breakfast, we caved. It came out hot and gooey-baked to perfection. We split it into quarters and each had a quarter before breakfast and boxed the rest to eat on the road later. Our breakfast came out shortly after and was amazing. I had the Denver omelet with potatoes and rye toast. All was delicious. The little pile of pineapple salsa is a refreshing surprise. My daughter had scrambled eggs, potatoes, and wheat toast. She couldn't stop talking about the potatoes, they are SO good! I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try, you will not be let down. Great location, wonderful service, and yummy food.

Visiting and happy to have found such an amazing spot for breakfast! I started with the coffee house blend of the day - Java Sea Salt Mocha - and was very pleased with it! Two of us split the Breakfast Quesadilla and the Stuffed French Toast! The Quesadilla - with chorizo was amazing, and the french toast was the best I have ever had - the bread was like a cinnamon roll and the raspberry and cream cheese filling was epic. We had an easy time finding street parking and being immediately seated and served on a Monday morning. The ambiance is really cool - a lot of eccentric art to take in. All in all, a 5/5 and we may come back tomorrow before we head out of town because we loved it so much!

Full belly. Great service. Cozy atmosphere. I was in town for a couple of days. I came here for a breakfast that would really fill my belly for a day of enjoying the outdoors. My breakfast definitely fit the book (and didn't break the bank!) I had a fluffy omelet with potatoes, bacon, and biscuit. The coffee was dinne of the best I've had - that piping hot, bold-flavored diner coffee! But I left room for a cinnamon roll. I'm a sucker for a cinnamon roll, but only really good ones. This was one of the best I've had. It was huge, so I didn't finish it, but I packed it up and smacked on it later in the day.

We decided to stop in for breakfast based on all the great yelp reviews. We stopped in early Sat morning and we had a very short wait. I had one Michigan blueberry pancake. One was more than enough, it was huge!! My husband had the Denver omelet. They provide a pot of coffee for the table, which is always nice and you do not see much anymore. I noticed many people had tea and it was served in beautiful tea pots. Our server was great and very attentive. A wonderful breakfast experience.

Packed!!! And for good reason! This place was delicious and inventive. My corn cake Benny was wonderful - not to mention unique - and I am bummed I don't live here so I can go back every weekend There were four of us and everyone loved their breakfast choice, but I was too busy chowing down to remember what they ordered ... sorry, not sorry AND... despite being packed, those servers were sliding between tables, topping off beverages, checking-in and just overall smashing it in terms of service! Kudos to that excellent team! AND... they gave me a refill on coffee to go, which was much needed and very much appreciated!

How do people get ahold of the restaurant? Every time i call its a bad number and cant even call to say im here to get my order?

I just called and they answered- 616-844-1131

Does anyone know what roaster their coffee is? Went 2 days in a row for breakfast when I was in Grand Haven and I can't stop thinking about the dark roast. Would love to buy some if possible

The dark roast (which is from Herman's Boy in Rockford, MI) is made especially for Morning Star. They are the only place that carries that blend. You can buy the beans or grounds at Morning Star!

Rainy Day has outside dining, but it was a rather chilly morning, so everyone was eating inside. The place was crowded, but we managed to find a lone table tucked in the corner. This restaurant has been around since as long as I can remember…read more My grandparents went here, my parents took us here. It was always a nice little diner. Similar to Idle Hour in Spring Lake and Rendezvous in Grand Haven. Unfortunately the latter have since shut down. Pine Street underwent new ownership a few years ago, and it really hasn't been the same since. They updated the menu with what seems to be Southwest Style food, even though this place is far from being a Tex-Mex eatery. They also boast a liquor license, I guess this is for the Bloody Mary crowd? They closed for remodeling in January, but reopened. I went there after they opened to see the improvements. To me all it looks like they did was tear out the carpeting, put in laminante and painted the walls. The same old tables remain as do the uncomfortable counter stools. No art work on the walls yet. I ordered a country breakfast. ($13), 2 small eggs, ham, American fries. What's interesting is the American Fries were basically deep fried chunks of potatoes. Different than what other restaurants around this area call AF. Also other restaurants ask if you want onions in the potatoes, here they don't since they are basically similar to French fries. Sourdough toast cost me an extra dollar. Coffee was $2.75. So the meal was: Country Breakfast: $13 Toast: $1 Coffee: $2.75 Tax $1.01 Credit card surcharge: 50¢ Total: $18.25 Plus tip: $3.50 Almost $22 for a basic breakfast for one. Had I brought my GF and parents it would be just shy of $90 for a breakfast for 4. Service was good.
