    Lavender Oat Latte

What a gem of a coffee shop. Enjoyed the vibes, branding and mission - Lavendar latte hit the spot! FUN FACT: the baristas are typically wearing sunglasses indoors around the early afternoon hours - haha! The store is situated where the staff gets direct sunlight in their eyes when working the coffee bar. What a fun group of people!

Honestly, can't ask for much more from a coffee spot. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, the staff was super friendly and personable, and the coffee and snacks were really well done. We absolutely loved the seasonal flavored lattes (the one with orange in it was surprisingly delicious!). We needed a quiet spot to get work done and Aldea ended up being the perfect getaway from a cold winter storm. We will definitely be back during our next Grand Haven visit!

How I was feeling after my brother got his coffee.
    Mason P.

Walked into Aldea and my thirst was incomprehensible. A man with a performative hat greeted me and my acquaintances, and then patiently took our order. Two pre-made drinks were purchased, but my little brother was struggling to make a decision. With one person behind us in line, he quivered as he spoke under his breath, "decaf I think.." "Decaf what?" I asked, perplexed at his slowness. He looked around nervously and said: "I think decaf light roast. I don't want anything too strong". Furiously I stated, "decaf black coffee." Then my brother freaked out in an anxious riot and said um a million times. He practically was making a beat with his ums. 4/4 rhythm 128 BPM. More like beating me down emotionally with his ums. I said it again with absolute certainty, "you want a decaf black coffee." At this point I was leaving him with no choice. Two people behind us in line now. I was boiling with anger in my soul. Waves of memories of pretentious cafés everywhere from Michigan to the streets of Europe. Asking for a coffee and getting a blank stare back has trained me to efficiently order my coffee every single time. Years of complex PTSD from the trenches of the café experience were brought out of me and an intense wave of sadness overcame me. My eyebrows rose and I looked at him again. "Uh"... YOU WANT A DECAF BLACK COFFEE. At this point the cashier was looking at me worried that the beast might come out of me, but he still sat there with monk-like patience. He seemed as if his years in the café industry have numbed him to the shenanigans of the common folk. This experience was nothing to him, but it sure was something to me. I stepped forward to the counter and sat my two drinks down, and stared the cashier in the eye. "Decaf black coffee please". I stated this with my sanity barely holding, my little brother now paralyzed behind me, and I felt a tremendous weight on my chest. I pulled out my card to tap it and even left a tip to soften the blow of our inexperienced presence. Almost like a "thank you, we suck, you can do your job now, sorry." It must be ChatGPT that makes it impossible for my younger brother to not be able to ask for a simple black coffee. He even asked if they had a light roast? Who does he think they are? Guatemala or Ethiopia? The center of coffee itself? Absolutely not. I was finally relieved as I left my tip and watched 14 dollars disappear from the screen in front of me. I said thank you as the cashier turned into a barista, starting to begin the process of our small order. Then the unthinkable happened. As I turned around and the weight begun to drop off my chest, I met my little brother's eye. His hands were up and he slowly broke out of his paralysis. "Wait..." he shook as he spoke. "Does that come with ice in it?" There was no ice in the drink. I asked for a decaf black coffee, not for an ice water with a splash of dirt. In awe I mustered up my last bit of self respect only to throw it down the drain. All the years of trauma from odd stares from baristas trained me for this moment but my brother destroyed my chances of a smooth experience. I turned around again, and then spoke in shame. "Could you guys put some ice in that decaf coffee please. The barista didn't even respond, just a calm nod and off to make the coffee. Years of commonfolk's insane request for extra pumps and iced cappuccinos from the common individual have made him unshakable. Like a samurai he passed on the order to his coworker only to go to the back and clean up. A few seconds later I heard my name, then snuck by paul to grab the coffee with shame. I thanked the workers with a forced smile and turned back to my brother. I stared at him while I took the first sip of my coffee. "Pretty good." I said. Then I walked out, this experience forever changing me. Not even the workers at long John silvers could pull me out of this slump. Anyways to be real, Thanks aldea for your kind and patient service. I will be visiting again. Without my brother.

Came to Aldea Coffee while visiting Grand Haven for work. The area it's located in is so cute! Upon walking in I loved the interior with all the natural light and ample seating. The baristas are friendly as well. I ordered a latte and loved it so much I grabbed some beans to go as well - they have tons of amazing options. Looking forward to visiting again next time I'm in town!

    Feeling Lucky- St Pats Coffee

Stopped in on St Pats for our last stop before leaving town. Friendly staff and patrons. Thankfully, they added a lil luck o the Irish, which I'm sure carried us through to make our flights despite all the crazy delays and cancelations! The coffee was good - not overly sweet & flavors were subtle. The prices were reasonable to boot.

I loved this coffee shop! Nate and I stopped in for a quick pick me up while in the area walking around downtown. It was pretty busy but we were able to sit on the super comfortable couch in the back. I went with my regular - a vanilla oat latte, and Nate got a cappuccino. Our drinks were made quickly but with care, and the latte was one of the better ones I've had in awhile. I loved that they took our name versus just yelling out the type of drink (if you've read my coffee shop reviews you'll know this is my biggest pet peeve). The shop was full of people working and studying, and it was a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. It's not a huge space so you may have to wait for a spot to sit. If I lived in the area this would definitely be my go-to shop.

Aldea is serving up amazing espresso drinks made from sustainably sourced beans. The latte I had was not only generous (this cup is more like a small bowl), but perfectly toasty and rich. The matcha is also top notch - earthy and verdantly green! The coffee was so good, we ended up taking a few bags home to California to enjoy! The cafe was the ideal refuge from a slightly drizzly day in Grand Haven.

Service was excellent, but the other barista was a little too extra (loud for all to hear her conversations) in an already quiet shop with patrons silently reading or on laptops. One size for all drinks. Drip coffee comes with unlimited refills. REAL cream! Caramel Salted Latte was tops. As you sip, the foam catches onto your lips, tasting hints of caramel and salt. Wow. Loos clean, highly stocked with TP displayed in large wall. Artistic wrap around TP rolls. Coming back for that amazing latte.

Beautiful interior space at Aldea & especially loved this mosaic on the wall

The interiors of Aldea Coffee are what coffee shop dreams are made of. Everything is warm and woodsy, they have blankets on every chair for you to use if needed to make things extra cozy, and there's so much gorgeous art on the walls that just make the space that much richer. I would love nothing more than to get warm drinks with friends in this space or just spend the day here working, reading, or studying. On ambiance alone, Aldea Coffee is clearly 5 stars, which is why it's that much more heartbreaking and frankly shocking that the drinks here are proper bad. I got a lavender lemonade and my friend got a chai. We took them to go and as we were exploring the rest of downtown Grand Haven, I was sipping my drink and noted how it tasted a bit "funky," like the lemonade had gone bad or something. I like my lemonades sour and tart, so I didn't think much of it at first, but as I started to drink it more and more, something just wasn't sitting right. I've also had plenty of lavender lemonades in the past as well, so it wasn't the fact that there was lavender in there, I know what that tastes like as well. Something was off here and I definitely had an upset stomach later at night this same day, and that's the only thing I can point to that might've been the cause. Additionally, my friend remarked to me that her chai tasted off as well. Again, chai is another drink that both her and I are familiar with, so I already trusted her observation of her drink. She asked me to try it to verify that she wasn't crazy though and when I tried it, I was shocked to my core. It tasted like SHRIMP WATER. I don't know how else to describe it. It tasted briny and exactly like shrimp soaking in this faintly spiced blend of water and unlike any chai I have ever had. I don't know what's going on here, but I caution against getting drinks here. They are 0 for 2 in our books and no matter how great the ambiance is, we will be avoiding this spot the next time we're in Grand Haven.

This is one of my very favorite coffee shops, period. Their mocha is outstanding, and their coffee is delicious. The staff is always super friendly, and the aesthetic is cool. I love their baked goods, and my husband is a huge fan of their lavender lemonade. The fact that you can see who grew your coffee if you buy a bag of coffee is also really unique. I love companies that are doing good in the world, and this being ethically sourced coffee makes it extra great!

They serve a double shot espresso with seltzer water. This is the way. And for it, I'll be back.
