Great service all around. Super friendly and food came out quickly. A little pricey, but the portions are generous. It's not often I get a 1/2 sandwich & soup and bring home leftovers. I love this place so much! When we go, we always ask for Nicole or Emily's section. You cannot go wrong with the beef stew! So delicious. Sports bar type of ambiance. TV screens playing different sports: WNBA, NBA Summer League, Golf, and more! There is also a full bar. The last time I was there, I had the Hobo burger with cheese, bacon, and ham! So good! Our first time trying this spot and their fried perch was the first time I've ever had perch. Was wonderful and crisp. I got it with their recommended fries and coleslaw as a side and it was a solid meal. Their traditional wings were delicious! Although it was sauced it was crispy when we got it! The blue cheese dipping sauce was a delightful pairing. The service was quick and the servers and hostesses were very nice! The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice as well. The quality was terrible. I ordered a mushroom burger and my husband got the Texas burger both were the worst we've ever had. The burgers were drenched in oil, and my bun was completely soaked through, still dripping with grease. The spinach artichoke dip tasted straight out of a can. I've heard of Hobo's Tavern but don't make it to Muskegon that often. My boyfriend and I met some friends at the Winter Sports Complex last winter and then stopped at Hobo's for dinner after skating. Hobo's is right near the sports complex and on the drive out back to GR, which made it very convenient. The dining area is really large and was distanced for COVID dining. Our server was great - super friendly, and quick with refills. My boyfriend and I got the pretzel dippers and perch dinner to share. The pretzels were amazing! They were hot, fresh, and soft. The cheese for dipping was a little separated but tasted cheesy and delicious. I'm always wary of ordering soft pretzels as they can be too dry or stale, so I was very happy with these. I was really hungry so they were a nice treat while we waited for our meal. The perch was decent but I wasn't a big fan of the breading, just a personal preference. The crinkle fries and coleslaw were standard fare, nothing too exciting. The parking lot is big and it wasn't too busy when we visited. I would stop by again for those pretzels alone! read more

First time, Saturday evening 6pm, able to secure a table for 2 no wait. Started with their soup du jour, seafood chowder topped with crunch bacon. Super thick andvl very flavorful...definitely a favorite of mine. My guest had the perch dinner with the suggested fries and Cole slaw, but you can pick from a variety of sides. Perch was delicious. I opted for the pick 2, sirloin and half slab ribs, baked potato and broccoli. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare, nicely seasoned, and very tender. The ribs did not disappoint. Loved the bbq sauce so much, I bought a bottle of the traditional and sweet and spicy. Guest enjoyed Alaskan amber on draft and I the house merlot, nice size for reasonable price. Hobo's Tavern has an extensive menu with wonderful choices. The prices are great, the atmosphere is really cool, and the service is top notch. I always love a kitchen I can see into. The drinks are really well priced as well as the menu items. I am really impressed by the boneless wings. They are not the typical wings that come frozen where the meat isn't great quality. The main dish I come to Hobo's Tavern for is the chicken Parmesan. The buttery, garlicky, flavorful sauce on the pasta is absolutely amazing. The chicken is so flavorful and juicy and crispy. This is a good one for sure Lots of food to choose from and I've never made a bad choice. I usually go with appetizers as they are big enough to serve as a meal. The dip stuff thing, the wings.... My go to. I just like the atmosphere. The waitstaff has always been outstanding and soooo friendly. Just the other day, went in with my own salt and pepper shakers (just for a gag), and the waitstaff was so fun with it. The location is an easy to get to, the parking lot is huge, and if you are really feeling like a second dinner, there's a pizza place right next door. When you pull up the buildings well cared for. Beautiful plantings, pretty outdoor seating areas. The parking lot is large. We went for a late lunch. We ordered a combo plate of ribs and fried perch with onion rings for a side. Second ordered was fried perch with fries and slaw. The ribs had little flavor like cooked in steam no grill marks or smoke ring. And then a sauce added later. Onion rings were large and crispy. Perch was cooked nicely and tartar sauce was good. The Coleslaw was bland. Dessert was chocolate macadamia nut brownie with raspberries. It was outstanding. Service was very good. The decor was fun. 4 stars is incredibly harsh. I'd give it 4.5 stars but silly Yelp options and such. Location wise, I'd give it 6 stars. Food is very fresh, drinks are inexpensive, atmosphere is great, and staff are spot on. Many 4 stars are meh but this one is a sneaky gem and the reason people hate Yelpers. The lettuce wraps could look better, finer chop would make them more visually appealing and easier to eat, but damn they are good and super fresh. The salads are ample and fresh fresh fresh. The steak tips are delicious. Yelpers are usually right. 4 stars are hit or miss. They are wrong here and you should give Hobo Tavern a try. read more

Had a margarita pizza recently and it was garbage. Sauce was bland with no spice, Roma tomatoes were cut razor thin, "add chicken" meant the chef stuffing an undetermined amount of pulled chicken under the cheese. Complete rip-off. Do better! read more

As I was staying in North Muskegon, I was on the hunt for wings. Nearby to where I was staying was this joint called Hobo's Tavern. I was thinking that this place was going to be some kind of small dive bar. Wasn't I mistaken? This place had a huge parking lot and inside...was a nice, furnished restaurant. I sat at the bar so I could be seated faster. They were practicing social-distancing. The staff was very friendly as I had 3 different team members talk to me and take care of me at the bar. I really didn't look at the menu much because I was dying for some wings. They have about 8 flavors but most of them are of BBQ nature or Buffalo nature. I went with 2 pounds of wings and had them divided up into the 3 BBQ flavors they had - Habanero BBQ, Hickory BBQ, and Bold and Spicy BBQ. I also asked from some Hot and Tangy on the side. They didn't charge me for extra sauce or any on the side, which goes very far with me. These wings were meaty and juicy. I liked the Habanero BBQ the best. It had the Habanero flavor without the overwhelming burn. The hickory BBQ was a really good BBQ sauce too. The Bold and Spicy was all right but in my opinion, it was a step behind. They do sell their BBQ sauce in bottles and I did think about buying some. The Hot and Tangy sauce on the side was a Buffalo variety. It wasn't very hot for me but it did have a good sweet, tangy, Buffalo flavor. I almost came back the next night, but told myself since this might be the only time I'm in Muskegon, I should try somewhere else. I wish I had picked Hobo's Tavern again and will head there next time I come back. read more

Their gluten free pasta and bread failed a gluten test leaving one person in our party without dinner which is never fun. Our server didn't check in from the time the food dropped until the end of our meal which was unfortunate. They removed it from the bill which was nice but ya know doesn't solve it. Since our waitress didn't come back to the table until the end there was no chance to rectify it before all the other food got eaten or cold. They did assure us they'd let the kitchen staff know about the failed gluten test. I had the surf and turf which was a nice concept, half a burger and a half order of the fish. Fried fish was kind of okay, was hoping for some nice puffy batter but it was just flat, needed seasoning. Burger was better, they kind of do a "stuff is on the plate add it in if ya want" style. Some onion would have been a nice option but none on the plate. Burger had a good flavor but was dry. Great job whoever cooked the buns, nice and golden. I hope they buy a gluten tester and start at least occasionally testing the food the kitchen puts out as gluten free. read more

Been going for years. My wife had a steak. It was chared on one side and they tried to hide it by flipping it instead just cooking a new one. She didn't notice until a couple of bites. It's not what prompted me to write the review. Took a bit to have the waitress come back and check on us for us to alert her so she ate her salad and the sides. The rest of us already ate our meals so we just wanted the meal taken off. Out of a $17.50+ meal, they comped us $8 for the steak portion. Right. Most places realizing they kinda messed up the family dinner probably comp the whole thing but ok, she ate the least $$$ part of the meal and you charge a majority still? Wasn't worth arguing to the manager. Question to Hobo's management: Is the $9:50 worth it in the long run? read more
