Love this place. Best chicken salad in the world. I get it in a wrap. Coleslaw is perfect - not too much mayo. And the summer fling wheat beer is great! Great sandwiches and quiche. I got the Newaygo Hefeweizen beer- it was delicious. The wraps r good. This time I ordered the turkey and Swiss panini. Delicious. Great coleslaw. The people r all really nice who work here. Love the old building it is in. Great place for lunch!! Came back again. Love this place. Got the caprese grilled cheese. Such fresh ingredients. Next time I will order xtra coleslaw. I've been visiting Newaygo since I was young, but this was my first time visiting River Stop Cafe. I will without a doubt be back on my next visit! I appreciated that they had a "garden grown" section on their menu with vegetarian options. My burger was delicious and the coleslaw was genuinely the best I've ever had (a wild claim as someone who's lived in the south half their life!). I also ordered a seasonal coffee from their Valentine's menu that was raspberry and white chocolate flavored. I'm not always a fruit flavored coffee person, but River Stop Cafe does it well! Despite it being quite busy during our visit, service was still relatively quick and the ambiance made for an enjoyable wait. read more

We had a strange time. Our waitress, the lights were on but no one was home. Then she just disappear mid service and we had no waitress or staff. We walked up to the counter to pay, ask for a box and ask where our waitress went. Eggs were cold and definitely from a pre mixed container. Chicken Cesar wrap was not what you'd expect and just ok, side of chips were stale tortilla chips. Coffee and lattes were excellent. The website seems to make it like a bakery and wine bar with a chef like kitchen. It was not. Plain, basic cafe style, Gordon's food service. I wouldn't go back. read more

Not only did they serve amazing food (no kidding the tomato soup was the bestest I ever had!) they did so with short notice and caring attention to detail. I cannot recommend them enough. What a nice stop on the way down from up north. We stopped in for their delicious breakfast sandwiches. I had the Rick's breakfast croissant and my dining companion had the breakfast burrito. Both sandwiches were very delicious and came out hot and ready to eat. I also had a cappuccino $3.50 not too bad price and we split the cinnamon roll. Our friendly waitress warmed it up. In town on vacation... We asked around town for a good lunch spot. Wow, what a great little cafe! We had and Italian sandwich and a ham&Swiss. The food was excellent, the staff could not have been friendlier, and the "no bake" cookie we had for dessert was almost life changing. BEWARE, if you're not in the know: Because they were closed, I went to the business two doors down called the river stop SALOON. I would give it one or two stars. We were driving through Newaygo on our way up north for the holiday weekend and wanted to stop for breakfast with our two kids. We didn't see any other options for breakfast besides River Stop but we thought we'd give it a try as we knew there wasn't going to be much (if anything) on M-37 for a while! We were happy to see a small patio off the back of the cafe with seating in the shade - perfect for two kids that wanted out of their car seats to stretch! The breakfast menu was limited but there were things on there that definitely sounded delicious! I went with the Rick's Breakfast Sandwich, I got both boys a side of eggs and bacon, a slice of the daily quiche, and hubby got the Mexi Breakfast Burrito. Food came out fast - always appreciated with kids! The side of eggs and bacon for the kids were perfect size and actually really good! Eggs were cooked PERFECT (not over done but not undercooked) and the bacon was SO good. My Rick's was outstanding! One of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had - seriously! Hubby really liked his burrito - two big halves were definitely satisfying! The daily quiche was a huge portion with some watermelon and half a muffin that had been put on the griddle - the muffin stole the show on that plate! The quiche was more of a breakfast casserole - no crust and was way overcooked - dry and chewy. So, unfortunately we did not eat more than a bite or two of that. All in all - great spot, great service, great food. We'd absolutely stop in again! read more

Cute little breakfast pit stop. Service is kind of confusing if you sit down. Looks like the cashier is also the server so expect service to be slow. The food was delicious! My fiancé and friend both got the breakfast burrito. The wrap was different then I've ever had. It was also pressed on a panini press. I got the sunrise breakfast sandwich. The English muffin was toasted perfectly. And the spinach and egg mix was fluffy and not over cooked. I did have to fill my own water, and the server only stopped by just to drop of food. We love this little cafe. The coffee is decent. The food choices are good& tasty (bacon is crisp ) What sets this place apart is the customer service. 1- they are very friendly and welcoming as soon as you walk in & make everyone feel like a regular. 2- they make great efforts to accommodate dietary restrictions. I had such a great experience grabbing lunch today! All the employees I worked with were SO kind and helpful, like above and beyond. Just came for espresso and lunch, but left having that and their gluten free lime bar. As someone who is intolerant to gluten, I was way over the moon to see 2 GF baked good options. This is SO rare in Michigan and it seriously made my day. I always feel like a hassle with my intolerance. Espresso was delicious, Greek salad was delicious, and the lime bar was amazing and a large portion. Thanks for restoring my faith in eating out every once n awhile :) read more

Sometimes the best roadside travel treasures are the ones you stumble upon by sheer happenstance and chance. At first glance you'd miss it if you weren't careful. We actually turned the car around to make sure the sign said cafe. But it did, in big bold letters. So we made our way inside. For our visit, it was breakfast time, and raining. A combination that necessitated, nay, demanded, the quick consumption of coffee. Perhaps even a croissant or three for my company of travelers. We ended up doing quite a bit more than that, and were served up some very fortifying and filling options of which I capture in photos for this review. Suffice it to say, we were cared for. If I am being honest this may have been one of my favorite pit stops on my way through my Michigan vacation. read more

The best food in Newaygo. I had the Moroccan meatballs with marinara which was incredible! My wife had the veggie panini which I tasted and it too was delicious. Great vibe and atmosphere. The woman at the next table raved about the Ruben sandwich. Sandwiches are their specialty and they have lots of great choices. Friendly wait service. Will come back often. Stopped in on a rainy evening to grab a bite while passing through Newaygo and were so glad we did. The service was friendly and prompt, the food delicious, and the atmosphere was unexpectedly cozy. We really loved (and were surprised by) the brussels sprouts & caramelized onion soup. While I love brussels sprouts, I have never had them in soup before and was surprised this was a menu option. Huge fan! The portions were light-ish which is what we were looking for that evening, but super hungry guests will want to manage their expectations. Overall a really great experience. read more

I have commented on this place before but every experience here is a good one. I had a cup of Organic Brazillian followed by the house Columbian. They are both full of body and flavor.
