From our table, We saw turtles swimming in the water Bargain lunch for good quality food with attentive service. I enjoyed a chicken salad sandwich served with outstanding onion rings. If I didn't have to give a star I wouldn't. We have 6 people with 6 different entrees. The food took forever to come out and when it did it was cold. I've never had a more tasteless meal. The fried flounder is frozen like everything else on the menu and either has no taste or it tastes horrible. I would never recommend. I saw great reviews and heard locals say good things.... they don't know what fresh seafood tastes like or what good food is. Honestly the worst food ever. The River Room is a great venue for a good low country cuisine, its nautical atmosphere is very warming. Right off Front Street, the River Room has a lovely view of Georgetown harbor. The River Room's Shrimp and Grits dish is one of the best in the Low Country. We love the desserts as well. The New Orleans Bourbon Bread Putting is outstanding. We had a large group at a nearby restaurant for a pre- Christmas celebration, when the waitress announced the limited dessert menu, we headed across the street to the River Room: New Orleans Bread Pudding, Key Lime Pie, MudPie, and Peanut Butter Pie were the dessert dejour. mmmm good, the River Room does it right. Ate here a few years back and close to Hampton Inn. Sat at bar again and got there just as it opened. Had the clam chowder soup which was absolutely perfect! Ordered the herb crusted grouper and the seasoning was perfect and was cooked perfect. Had the mashed potatoes and vegetables and a good helping of each side. We always seem to stop in Georgetown when we vacation down in Myrtle Beach. We decided to stop in the River Room this time around. I had a chicken salad sandwich with French fries and it was really good. Not heavy on the mayonnaise at all. My partner had the shrimp and grits and he ate every bit of it so I guess he liked it. We had lunch here and are very pleased with the choice. I had the shrimp gumbo which had a nice flavor with not too much spice. Also had the shrimp and grits which were good but average. Stopped for an impromptu lunch en route to Charleston. Great atmosphere and very good food The River Room we are told is known for their shrimp and grits. That seemed a bit heavy for lunch on a sweltering summer day. I opted for our servers second suggestion the pecan chicken salad. It was served on a bed of romaine with apple slices and grapes. I have to say that I signed up for yelp just so that I could review this restaurant. My dad, brother, and I went here as a fluke during our bicycle trip down the nc/sc/ga coasts. First of all, all of the specials sounded fantastic so I just went with the first one, the Asian glazed salmon over spring veggies. the salmon was cooked perfectly and the glaze was delicious. The vegetables that were chosen (squash, zucchini, onion) really set off the dish and were properly seasoned in themselves. the service was quite good although a little slow, but the food made it all worth it! read more

Great location. Came here because the line at Big Tuna was too long and got seated for lunch. Very nice waitress. Nice selection of entrees at lunch and we'll worth a stop off on the way to Myrtle Beach from Charleston. Very similar to Big Tuna only no outside dining which comes in handy in the hot summer and chilly winter. read more

Sorry, I can't give this anything but two-stars and I'm kind of having trouble giving it that. We went there for lunch and I ordered their cheeseburger with blue cheese crumbles. To begin with, the sevice was slow -- terribly slow, the waitress had zero personality and it seemed like we were more of a nusiance to her than a wanted group of people in her restaurant. When our food finally arrived, while the portions were large, my burger was warm -- as in just warm, my fries were warm, not hot, but warm, and their cole slaw had almost no taste. I probably should have sent it all back, but that would have just held up and disrupted everyone else's lunch at our table. Anyway, the bottom line here is that there are other places to eat in Georgetown and I'd try those before this place. I have no need to return here, that's for sure. read more

We've gone to the River Room for over 40 years. The building has so much history and it offers a true "southern cooking" Georgetown SC atmosphere. There are nice salads and chowders/soups as well as shrimp and grits, shrimp creole, soft shelled crab, salmon and burgers and sandwiches. There is a full bar and nice wine by the glass. I've been here a few times over the years and had not been disappointed until last night. The waitress did a good job, but the kitchen dropped the ball. I ordered the steak filet and it had a 1 1/2" piece of fat down the middle. Not what i expected for $28. My wife ordered the seafood platter and the fried oysters were so over cooked that they were like big rubber raisins. I've lived about an hour from Georgetown my whole life, but I never actually stopped to enjoy the area until 2 days ago. Georgetown is the half way point between my parents and me, so I met them there for a day by the water to celebrate my mom's birthday. We walked around for a few minutes before deciding on eating at River Room. We didn't know anything about any of the restaurants there, so we were basing this decision completely on looks. We wanted to eat somewhere with waterfront dining, so we chose this place because the whole restaurant had huge windows with views of the river. No matter where you sat, you had a great view and you were in the A/C! We walked in and were sat right away, even though they looked pretty busy. It looked like it may be a little pricey, so I was kind of nervous about that. Once I looked over the menu, everything looked amazing and reasonably priced for a local seafood restaurant. I ended up getting the fried flounder sandwich with fries. It was so good and the portions were large. My parents really enjoyed their food, also. Our waitress, I can't remember her name but she was a younger pregnant woman, was really nice and checked on us just enough to make sure we had everything we needed. Our bill ended up being around $35, which is so cheap for three, large seafood entrees. To sum it all up, my family really enjoyed this place and we will be back in the future! read more
