We like this charming place. They were friendly, nice view, service and food was good. The chicken salad was very fresh and nicely plated. The Cajun Chicken-Sausage Gumbo was hearty and biscuit moist. The Peanut Butter Pie was the best! read more

Great local seafood restaurant. Big place, might be 40 or more four tops, very popular, there was a waiting list for a table - maybe 15 minutes. Decor is normal nautical for a seafood place. Hostess was OK, our server was nice enough, friendly, well-organized Food came out fast considering the crowd. My wife had the grilled salmon which was very good. I had a seafood combo - shrimp and flounder - which was also very good. Good choice if you are in the area. read more

Been going there for over 25 years and they never disappoint. The seafood plater is the best.

This is a pleasant restaurant overlooking the water. We had a little wait before our group was seated, so we visited the side room bar, where the barkeep was very professional and made a good gin and tonic. They have a good selection of daily special fish, prepared a couple different ways each. The portions are pretty large as well. Definitely the grits are great...I am not a big fan, but I scarfed these up. I also shared a couple bites of my aunt and uncles seared tuna...delicious!! Finish your meal with Key Lime Pie or the great bread pudding. read more

Black bean soup - yum - not spicy. Salsa they put in it is simply chopped tomatoes, no pico de galo. Tuna salad - made with mayo, pickle, celery, and chopped boiled egg. waitress told use only mayo and celery. We even specifically asked about pickle! Emphatic "oh no, no pickle." Lol. Silly thing is these unusual mix-ins are not on the menu. Even the first salad on the menu "walnuts, grapes, and chicken salad" my sister thought that was a salad with chicken breast - it should read: scoop of chicken salad on a bed of greens. Chicken ceasar salad. Ok. Dressing thin and un-spicy. Chicken breast plated whole and very difficult to cut up in a bowl without knocking salad out if bowl. Soooo read into the menu. Don't ask the waitress questions. Order the bean soup (no one got gas?! :-) read more

This was the worst meal I have had all week! The salmon had no taste and 3 of the 6 in my party were wondering why I even recommended this restaurant! The prices and service left a lot to be desired! There was a party behind us that were obnoxiously loud and helped to make this dining experience a zero. I will not be eating here nor recommending this restaurant to anyone again! Such a disappointing experience! I only wish I had not wasted all that money! read more

I have lived in Murrells Inlet for close to 13 years. The crusted Grouper is hands down the best Grouper entree I've had. My guest ordered the seafood platter and it was phenomenal. The portions are hearty and the view and atmosphere downtown are great! I will be back very soon. It's the hidden gem of the grand strand. read more

Enjoyed the steak and potato with a side salad. Everyone else in my party had fish and they raved about their dishes. The service was friendly and the ambiance had a fun and nautical theme. Check out the old time elevator in the rear of the restaurant. read more

My husband and I had dinner here while visiting the town on a get away weekend . I had the Grilled Salmon, collards and new potatoes. The collards could stand on their own as awesome, but added with the salmon with hollandaise sauce and Wow! The portion size was large for me as a small eater, but would do well for a hungry appetite as well! My husband had the shrimp and grits and said they were very yummy. The service was pleasant as well as the staff. read more

Menu had some nice selections; however, the food wasn't quite as nice as the decor. Nice view of the water. The clam chowder and salmon were good. The oyster sandwich was also tasry. Its nice to find chicken salad on the menu but there was too much bread and the chips are nothing special. The prices were reasonable. The servers were understaffed, but polite. A decent place in a neat town. read more

Always love my experience at the River Room. Dining room is beautiful, staff is attentive and food is excellent. I haven't had anything I didn't like yet. Great shrimp n grits! However, if you're not in to seafood you may be in trouble, especially at dinner. If you request they may make you a burger at dinner! read more

Excellent! Very delicious food at a very reasonable price. Couldn't be more impressed with this quaint, precious restaurant. The staff was friendly and polite, and the atmosphere cozy and distinct. I got the salmon and vegetable lunch special, with a biscuit. Simply exquisite. Anytime I am in this area, I will be sure to stop in for another visit. Highly recommend! read more

River Room - Exquisitely delicious - Seafood Near Me - Georgetown, South Carolina

Lunch was nice. Nothing amazing but certainly a good meal. The atmosphere was pleasant, not too loud and the staff was very friendly.

Waitstaff doesn't know the menu. I asked about several things and they had no opinion. I can tell you the soft shell crab sandwich was awesome. Dump the coleslaw on that thing and go to town. We ate inside but overlooking the water - you know to avoid the stink from outside - the mill not the restaurant. I would come here again for the food. The waitstaff needs some coaching or at least to try the menu - geez. Quite satisfied. read more

We had such a wonderful date night here at The River Room! We got there right after they opened and we able to sit in the sunroom overlooking the water--already off to a great start! Tables were sat every other one, and the staff was wearing masks and wiping things down constantly. Our server Amy was so sweet! We were very thankful to have her, she helped make the experience all the more enjoyable. The quarantini was a fun and delicious cocktail, and we LOVED our meals! I was really impressed with their pre-dinner house salads. Most places use subpar ingredients for filler, but not The River Room. Super fresh greens and veggies, and all the dressings are made in-house! The creamy gorgonzola will not disappoint! I had the filet and it was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered fish and he is not normally a fish-eater! The blackened grouper was cooked perfectly and he devoured every bite. By the time we finished our meals, we were able to enjoy the gorgeous sunset right from our seats. We can't wait to come back again for another date night next time we are in Georgetown! read more

This place is fantastic!!!! We had a party of four and every single person enjoyed their food. For an appetizer I had their spin on Ousters Rockefeller which was the best I've ever had and I've eaten at a lot of seafood restaurants. The hush puppies ordered for the table were good also. I had the seafood casserole for dinner which was also great along with grits. We will definitely be back here when visiting family in a nearby city. I enjoyed the location (so pretty outside by the harbor), meal and service. read more

My favorite seafood restaurant! The shrimp and flounder are so delicious. And the hush puppies are yummy!

Stopped in for lunch before our boat tour. This was a nice place with a simple, good menu. I had the fried shrimp sandwich and the kiddo had a HUGE fish sandwich. I'm knocking one star off because the two onion rings that came with the fries were not seasoned at all. I love onion rings and these were so bland. Other than that, everything was great! read more

Really has gone downhill since the last time we visited the area. I had some type of chargrilled tuna steak. Tasted like it was soaked in soy sauce and then grilled. I had a clam chowder appetizer that most certainly came out of a can. So bad, I'll remember how bad it was the next time we come to the area. read more

We made a quick visit to Georgetown during our vacation in SC. We found River Room thanks to Yelp and we were very pleased. I got the shrimp penne pasta with parmesan cream sauce. My husband got the same thing but with chicken instead of shrimp. They were both delicious. The shrimp was fresh and the sauce was sooo good. Wish the bread was perhaps a piece of bread toasted with butter and garlic instead of just a plain dinner roll... That would be my only critique, if I had to come up with one. The atmosphere washed nice. Beautiful views of the Boardwalk and the water from all seats. Staff was so friendly and the service was good. We have 2 boys (6 yrs old and 18 months old) and they sat us right next to the fish tank, which the kids loved! I'd definitely recommend River room and we would come back again read more

I just had a Caesar salad with fried oysters, well sort of fried oysters. When I ate my first oyster, it tasted mostly like batter. I hate another, then cut one open to find not a nice juicy oyster but a little piece of oyster in the ball of batter. Liz M. read more

Had the grouper. It was a little dry, and could use some more flavor. Nice setting. Good beer selection.

An excellent stop for tired travelers here in historic Georgetown Excellent food awesome service and atmosphere.

Monday night dinner while staying in Litchfield/Pawleys. We hadn't been to the River Room for several years. Service was attentive throughout although I had to wait a bit for my beer. The beer was a Hop Art IPA by Coast. Very good organic beer. There were several other beers on the menu that looked worth trying. I had char grilled yellow fin with lime ginger soy glaze and a side of wasabi. The fish was well prepared and flavorful. I would have liked just a touch more grill just for that part of the flavor. Each entree came with a salad. I had the herb vinaigrette. This was good although applied a little heavy. Other dressings were routine. Other entrees at the table included fried shrimp (fresh and flavorful). Crab cakes reported to be quite good. Seafood casserole that was reported to have a little too much liquid. And scallops and shrimp in cajun taste sauce. Only slight issue was a rubbery scallop. The sauce was excellent. Sides (2 with most entrees) at the table included stone ground grits that were excellent. Collard greens that were excellent and fries that were well well...fries. A little above average meal with good service. Would return next time we're in the area. read more

We went up from Charleston to Georgetown to meet friends for dinner. Someone suggested the River Room, and they were quite accommodating for our party of 6. I was a little disappointed that the fish only came fried, but each of us got something different, and everyone was delighted with their dishes. Thanks for an excellent meal! read more

Nice interior and service was prompt and friendly. Came for lunch; I had fried shrimp platter, hubby had soft shell. Green salad side and cole slaw were very tasty and large portion. The shrimp was a little heavy handed on the breading; I would prefer a lighter coating and flash fried. Soft shell was good - also heavy on batter. read more

The location is great! Beautiful view. I called and was told they opened at 5. I asked if we could sit at the bar the lady replied we open at 5. We arrived at 5:10 entered and there were 5 people in line waiting next to the hostess desk. Lots of action at the hostess desk with employees but no one looked up when we walked in. I was shocked there were people waiting since the place was totally empty. Very cute T-shirt's on display - I was able to read and see all of them in the time we waited for someone to start seating the people that were waiting after 5 were seated we waiting longer for us to be shown to a table inside the restaurant at a dark table inside. I asked if we could please be seated by the window and we were accommodated. The place was empty why put us in the dark? Again beautiful view nice to be on the water to eat. I ordered a pina colada no whip cream. My drink arrived with whip cream I indicated to waitress and she said "O yea you asked for no whip cream the bartender does not usually put it on sorry" and walked away. I had to ask another waitress if she could get our waitress she came out and I had to ask for a new drink without WC. The waitress didn't know if crab was fresh or frozen on the grouper dish. She said the chef said is was fresh. It was pretty strict on the substitutions for the sides. I had to offer to pay more for hush puppies instead of bread and we were charged and did receive both. My friend said her crab cakes were delicious. My grouper stuffed with crab was horrible ($30). The crabmeat was more mushy breading and red peppers than any taste of crab. The grouper which is in season was so dry it was inedible. The waitress mentioned the plate was really hot so I guess it sat under the lights? The mashed potatoes were cold. My friend asked for a box to go. The waitress asked if I was done (plate barely touched) I said yes she said great and took a full plate back to the Kitchen. I don't think she even asked how we liked our meal. How a waitress picks up a full plate and doesn't ask is beyond me. My friend heard that this restaurant was known for bread pudding and it was good. My advice eat somewhere else and get dessert here if u like bread pudding. By the way when we left there was still only about 5 tables filled so it wasn't like the kitchen was rushed. The ambience was a little depressing as most places have some life to them at 5. This place was dead. There are so many other choices on the boardwalk that are so much better and less expensive that I would give this one a miss. read more

Rita at Hampton inn recommended River Room and she right. Service was excellent. The restaurant was full but still quiet. We were able to carry on a conversation easily. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. I had the appetizer shrimp and grits as my entree and still had some to take home. My husband had the seafood platter. It was breaded and fried perfectly. Portions were large and he had plenty to take home. The vegetarian in our group was able to get a salad that he said was delicious. We would definitely Recommend and will go back read more
