The hotel is located across the river from the Trump tower. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to the lake and about a 5 minute walk to "the bean." It's also less than 5 minutes away from the main shopping area on the magnificent mile. It's also right on the river way so if you like to run/bike, I would highly recommend running towards the lake and on the lake. It's a one mile run just to the lake. The room is small but it has everything you would need. Since we were here to visit friends and explore the city it didn't really bother us since we weren't there much. What I loved about this place is that it offered free water bottles on every floor. It was basically empty plastic bottles that you can take and fill up on water with the water fountain they provide. One negative is that the hotel staff told us there would be free snacks on the second floor but we checked twice on separate days and there were no snacks put out. Just coffee and tea. read more

Came here for a quick weekend getaway. Hotel is great location. We booked the smallest room to save some money. Great value for the money. Cons: shower was Luke warm. Cleanliness. Pros: free bottles of water. Location. Customer service. I would stay again for a quick trip. You definitely get what you pay for here. read more

Stayed at River Hotel for a weekend getaway in April 2019. Check-In: Was quick and easy, except they mixed up our room with another couple. Rooms: VERY SMALL, website said queen bed, was actually a full; 2 flat pillows only; A/C did not work, rooms were stuffy; there was a coat of dust on tables, etc.; small windows, facing brick wall; 1 washcloth provided Elevators: only 1 elevator working, making it difficult to and time consuming to get anywhere; at one point we squeezed 10 people + luggage in a teeny elevator Staff: very friendly and accommodating Noise level: what you would expect; could hear neighbors occasionally but overall not terrible Misc: coffee machine in lobby did not work (decaf only) Location: Great, close to everything (Michigan Ave., Millennium Park, River Walk) read more

Been here twice and I am in love! Great service everyone made and insured our stay was going well! They were accommodating and helped me check in before my time with no extra charge! Very clean and literally walking distance of everything!!!!! This will forever be my go to hotel in the Chi-town!!!! read more

This is based solely on customer service. I had a "non-refundable" reservation for a conference in Chicago and (due to the coronavirus) the conference was cancelled. The River Hotel customer service individual I spoke with didn't even hassle me but simply and smoothly handled the cancellation and refund. read more

Beautiful art deco decor mixed with modern and a great location make this a great hotel to stay during your trip to Chicago. The hotel is right across from the Trump tower, with the Chicago River separating it, and steps away from Michigan Ave. We would go have breakfast next door at the Corner Bakery every morning and just look around at the wonder that is downtown Chicago. Also, each floor had a bottled water refilling station. The downsides were that the beds and pillows were not that comfortable and the TV was very small. There was no iron or ironing board in the room, but they were located in a closet down the hall. Otherwise, it was a great stay. read more

Great price, Great location, Great service! We had a room facing the river for our honeymoon and it was only $209 a night! The valet was $25 a night. They have water bottles on every floor you can fill up, a fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. Water pressure kind of sucked. Our air conditioning didn't work the first night, but they fixed it for the next night. It is soo close to Michigan Ave shopping. River taxi access within minutes. Many river restaurants easy to access. LOVED IT! Will stay again! read more

Old school hotel (marble lobby, gilt around the elevators, tiny rooms) reappointed with modern decor. Our room WAS tiny (and with an uncomfortable double bed), which was fine as it was nicely decorated and clean. However, the view was directly onto construction of a building next door - so close there's permanent dried concrete splatters all over the window. Whatever, not every hotel room can have a nice view, it is what it is. But if you stay in 1109 keep your curtains shut! The chilled water dispensers on the floors are nice but I would have preferred ice and ice buckets in-room, or a mini fridge to keep our drinks cold. The Keurig was a good touch. Noise was minimal: didn't really hear the neighbors unlike at some other places. The River Hotel is extremely centrally located and a good hopping-off point for city activities. After price shopping it's one of the most "affordable" that isn't a dive. read more

We had a big group so we had two rooms. Both rooms had two bathrooms and two beds with a pull out sofa bed. One of the rooms had a view of another hotel/ building and the other had a view of the river and the trump tower. With a spider on the window. The rooms were average for their price which was reasonable. We had a hard time finding parking because of the central location. The nearby locations were very nice and located practically in the center of town. I would recommend pizza uno if you want a Chicago deep dish pizza. The river tour was neat and also right across the street. The only downside was that the hotel felt cheap in a quality/ amenity way. Many of the locations of the amenities were outside the room and in busy areas. Also the vending machines were practically broken and the elevator was glitchy. Overall it was satisfying but nothing special. read more

We called in to get a hotel room for Tue night but Andrei told us to call the reception center to make a reservation but it went to him again. He said they are closed. What a shame you can't just pull in and get a room! They had availability. read more

A quick walk to the State/Lake El stop and directly across from the Chicago River, this gem is in a great location to explore downtown. I have stayed here twice (March and August, 2012) and had a pleasant stay on both occasions. Friendly service. On my first visit with a friend, they upgraded our room after the first night since we could not get a roll-a-way and did not charge any extra. On my second visit, I unexpectedly ended up in the city solo, so a single room allowed me a view of the river. They have complimentary bottles and water (yes, separate) and a large lounge area on the second floor with, again, complimentary coffee and tea and an oversized chess game. The rooms are small, so be prepared, but you do not need much space. they are however, efficiently designed, modern (had a sliding, frosted glass bathroom door) and clean. Shares a building with Club Quarters, their sister hotel. They are basically the same, though one is more used for business travelers and they have separate elevators. read more

Just came back from Chicago and I stayed here. So glad I made this choice. The check in was prompt without much fuss, staff was friendly and the room was clean and modern. Yes, it was on the small side, but hey- it serves its purpose: you are in a quiet, central and clean environment, perfect for business or fun. In fact I didn't want to leave. They have a great lobby with internet on first and second floor, where you will also find complimentary coffee, tea, fruit and snacks every morning. Quite a convenience I would say. You can also have your tea or coffee in your room. The welcoming message on the phone was a nice touch too. Oh, the best part? The super comfortable bed and linens. I would come back for those 2 alone... Did I mention free WI-FI? Enjoy your stay! read more

Poor service!! The staff people are not nice and not willing to help. I started my vacation with a bad welcome from them. Gave me a different room than the one i was promised to get. And when I asked if there is anything they could do for me their response was kinda rude !! Don't forget about the tiny windows so you won't be really able to enjoy the view! Location is perfect though For the money i paid i will never book there again i'd rather try another one with a better staff people read more

You shouldn't, unless its the only place with an opening in town and you're in a terrible bind. The Howard Johnson is fancier. This is a glorified Motel 6, with a restaurant in it and more rooms to spare. I stayed in one of their "junior" queen bed suites. It was tiny. To their credit - there was full disclosure of that at the time I booked on hotels.com; and when I checked in, the guy that checked me in warned me of it once more. I didn't need a bunch of space, so I went with it. At the end of the day the size of the room did not bother me at all. I've stayed in smaller in NYC lol. Anyway...I got into the room and as soon as I step over the threshold I was greeted by a musk; that 80's musk reminiscent of a cheap motel. All cheap motels have that musk. This set the tone and I kinda knew from walking in what time it was with the place. The quality is where I have the problem. First, the bed. The bed was sunken in or shallow in the middle. Like, you could literally see that it was sunken in by standing there looking at it. When I sat on the bed it felt cheap and I could feel the springs. It was as though the only thing keeping my butt from the springs was the mattress lining and the thin sheet atop it. It gets worse...I peeled back the sheets and the top sheet (I forget the technical term for it) was stained with a droppling of what appeared to be either ketchup or dark hot sauce. It was fresh and not washed over. I could tell only because there was a dried scab there. I tore the sheet off. I went into the bathroom and got one of the bath towels and used it as a guard between my butt and the bed, because at this juncture I was suspicious about whether the bed linens were ever changed. I was too tired and lazy to bother with complaining at the front desk. I turned the heat on and slept on the towel, coverless and pillowless. The TV was the size of my second computer monitor at work. And, it had like 2 cable channels on it. It was a joke, so I turned it off and watched Netflix on my laptop. The bathroom hadn't been updated since probably about 1994. Tiles were old and dingy, but the shower and face bowl fixtures were relatively modern. Classic. Because of my concerns about the sheets, I laid toilet paper down on the toilet seat because my guess is the housekeeping staff don't bother cleaning that either. The restaurant. I went downstairs to the Bella restaurant. I ordered a crusted chicken, wild mushrooms, mashed potatoes and venetian fennel. I give it a 6/10. It got the job done. The elevators. The elevators were pretty unique. You have to insert your card, wait for the light to flash, and then press your floor. Myself and another guest went up to 25 and back down to the Lobby before we figured it out, thanks to some kind folks who boarded on our way back down. The front desk could've done a better job communicating those instructions upon check in. All and all, I'd not ever stay here again. It was uber underwhelming and suspiciously unkempt. read more

Honestly probably one of the worst high end hotels I've ever stayed in. I'm here in late September and while the weather is quite hot outside, it's like a freakin freezer inside my room. And you can't adjust the temperature of the AC. I spent the entire time underneath my blanket. Also there are way too many floors and only two elevators. So if you are staying at a higher floor the elevator stops so many times going down. It's really annoying. Not giving one star coz the location is great. read more

Location, location, location! This place is close to everything. The rooms are a bit smaller but you get the best bang for the buck. I could've given this place a lower rating because the heat went out on us on Thursday and they were doing wi-fi upgrades that took about 3 hours when we first got in. The heat was not their fault because there was a fluke of a weather change on Friday and when we told them about the situation, it was fixed within an hour. The wi-fi upgrade was communicated when we got to our rooms by a letter from the hotel. I spoke to Seth, the night manager, and he took care of us to the point that I had to write this review and sing his praises. read more

Stayed here for 5 days in March 2018. Was nervous about the quality because of the fair price. No problems at all! Room was fine with great views (booked standard room). Couldn't ask for a better location. Right across from Trump hotel and the canal. Not even a block off of Michigan Ave. Never had to get an uber... walked to the park, Navy Pier, and all local shops and restaurants! We will for sure stay here again. read more

Had a GREAT room for my family of 6. So much space for a city hotel. The bar is cozy & the restaurant seems quaint. We plan on staying again next time! read more

Great service, incredible, convenient location and view, very clean and cozy, and wonderful customer service. Also included a large coffee maker, with a mini fridge and microwave at no extra cost. The tv was too far away, the shower did not have a tub, the windows were not super clean, and the bedspread slipped off the bed while sleeping. Other than that, a great, convenient place to stay for the price! read more

I stayed here last year during December on my annual trip to the Christkindlmarkt. The hotel is old but well-kept and updated. The elevator made me feel very safe and the water machines were a welcomed surprise. The room was small, but clean, comfortable and with a great view. read more

"Won" this hotel on a Hotwire bid while in town for the Coldplay concert. Our room had a double sized bed and a pull out sofa. Check-in was fast and easy with the automated system which I appreciated! However, disappointment started as soon as we got in the elevator. Our room keys failed to work in the elevator and we had to often rely on other guests key cards so we could select our floor. The room was incredibly small. There was a large stain on the pull out sofa that has obviously been there for a very long time. The coffee maker didn't work. No hairdryer in the room. The shower curtain was so ineffective that we basically flooded the bathroom every time we took a shower. Definitely will not return. read more

This place is not worth the money. Just staying up Michigan 3 blocks north will save you $20/night or for the same price have a great room. Tiny rooms with no fresh air (windows bolted shut). They turn off the AC so you are welcomed to a hot muggy tiny room. No budging on a free upgrade either. Shame. I wanted to try something new in town as I'm here for biz once a month. Will not return and do not recommend. read more

Took the train for a fun night out in the city, and to bar hop. Hotel is in a great location. Right in the middle of everything! Always a plus. Stayed here for one night, and it was perfect for the two of us. We had a room facing the river, which was really nice. The room was a little bit smaller than I would have expected. The bed was pretty comfortable, and the room was warm and cozy. (stayed here during the end of winter.) the room was clean. By the elevators, they have complimentary water with plastic bottles, and caps. I thought that was pretty neat. Check in and check out was smooth, and staff was friendly. Only issue I had, was the next morning, around 9am, housekeeping came into my room to start cleaning. The housekeeper told me that she was told we have been checked out.. We clearly were not checked out, we were asleep. Check out wasn't until 11, I believe. Called the front desk to inform them that we were still checked into our room. Must have been a glitch in the system, or someone accidentally checked us out. Staff were nice, and apologetic about it. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. A little pricey, but it all depends on location, and if you're booking last minute! Would recommend. read more

Simply Awful. While it may look nice on the outside, Ive stayed at nicer Motel 6's. Where to start...the rooms are impressively small. The towels could rub paint off the walls. The walls are thin enough that I can hear the people upstairs snore at night. Not only are there not fridges in each room, but the ice machine and ice buckets are 5 floors away from my room. When I called to tell the desk that they were out of buckets, they didnt even offer to bring me one directly, but instead told me to just go back up and check later that night But, there's free WiFi, and the windows open 6" - but that perk is quickly countered by the non stop smell of fried food wafting in. Oh, almost forgo the dust. the top of my closet is one solid layer of dust, that keeps getting knocked off with any movement of the door. read more

Ramon at the front desk is amazing!!! He was very professional and extra helpful with recommendations for our stay. The beds and pillows were comfy, clean room, and bottle water station was pretty cool. I gave 4 stars because the rooms are a tad bit small. The bathroom toilet and sink were too close together. My only other small compliant is about the door. Rooms are so close together and doors are heavy, every time a door opened or closed it made tons of noise which was very distracting. read more

We stayed at the Club Quarters River Hotel on Chicago's Riverwalk July 25-29, 2019. The location is outstanding! We had 2 rooms. One was a free upgrade from the standard and was very spacious. The other was a 2 bedroom with 2 bathrooms, also spacious, well designed and very comfortable. The staff was efficient, helpful and friendly. The cappuccino machine on the 2nd floor and snacks during the weekdays was great! Joined CQ rewards program and already earned a free night for a future stay. No complaints whatsoever, would definitely stay again! read more

Great views, close to the metro lines. 30 minutes from the airport by train. Close to many restaurants such as the Purple Pig and many others. Close to everything. Free wifi, free espresso, free cappuccino, free latte... It's b/w Michigan and State so its in the heart of Chicago. The bed was very comfortable. The room was small but who needs a giant room when on vacation. THe room did feel cool most of the time. We were not able to turn the heater up high for some reason and the toilet kept running. Other than that the sleep was great. Everyone decided to leave at the same time so the elevators got full and busy. read more

While not smack dab in the middle of the Michigan Street action, this hotel is pretty centrally located right on the river. The river walk is a minute walk away and there are plenty of restaurants and attractions within a mile radius. Hotel is clean and updated with some rooms offering a full kitchenette complete with fridge, microwave, two burner stove, and dishes. They offer complimentary wi-fi, gym facilities, printing services, and can even have fitness equipment and a yoga mat delivered to your room. They also over purified water filling stations in the hall and advertise loaner iPads. There isn't much of a concierge space so it can seem a bit self-service, but every member of staff we ran into was very helpful. There is a reasonably priced brekkie place attached and the parking garage daily rat is $24/day which is relatively cheap in comparison to some other hotels. read more

If you want a clean, well-located, efficient hotel with all the essentials of modern life (i.e. complementary wireless, printing and fitness center), this is your place. I don't care about the small size of the rooms, as long as they are affordable. The liberty office chairs are very comfortable. Two suggestions: Everything that I needed was in the room except a cork opener. The hotel should provide a better body wash. The soap leaves your skin very dry. read more

Later A/C man came and changed filter.Temperature was 75 8 hours later . Front desk said they could not switch room until the next day. Room was small but had a great view of the river. With 2 people in room we only had 2 not so great towels, 1 hand towel and 1 washcloth. This was an interesting hotel. Had some definite pluses and had some question marks that made me keep it from giving it 4 stars. Stayed there for four nights. Definite plus was the availability of free laundry on the 10th floor. Would have been better if one of the dryers wasn't broken because that meant two washers trying to dry in one drier. Luckily only one other person was doing laundry so it was something that could be accomplished. The water bottles and water was a nice touch. I preferred getting a large water bottle and filling that one. I didn't try the work out room so I can't say anything about it. Location is fantastic. Easy to get to the loop and therefore access to all the trains. If anything is an issue expect the front desk to deal with it quickly. Now that is the issue. One would not expect things to go wrong all that often, but they do but on the plus side they are dealt with quickly. But it's the little things. No hair drier -- one supplied. Room said to have a 'kitchenette' -- well one person's kitchenette is another person's fridge and microwave - no plates or utensils or..... Bathroom supplies not replenished, but if you ask they are there. Then the A/C broke. Tried to explain that it wasn't the thermostat but was the compressor but we had to go through the steps of replacing the batteries in the thermostat and allowing it to fail to fix the problem. Kind of like calling India when your computer has a failure code. Follow the script. But there was a new room supplied, not exactly the same but close. And they said they would move us from one room to the other but that wasn't done but I didn't care because then I knew it was done correctly. Overall, if you can get a great price then try the place but I rate it comparable to the SpringHill Suites (River North) or the Holiday Inn (Merchandise Mart). If you can get Residence Inn (either downtown) then I would select those. As I said, if something is wrong expect it to be resolved quickly but there are so many things that were off I cannot give it four stars. read more

Great location! We were in one of the smallest (advised for 1 - 2 people) rooms and yes, it was small but it was efficiently laid out, had everything we needed and an AMAZING view! We got a room with a kitchenette. It faced Trump tower (not a fan) but we tried to ignore that and focus on the lovely river view. The room had three windows across the front looking down the river with all the bridges. Our friends got a standard room but upgraded when they found out the rooms were small. They had no kitchenette and only one window which did overlook the river. Loved the free bottled water which was refillable, and the weeknight wine and cheese.
