Well we were at the mall seeing good old Santa clause, this restaurant and family bar pop up on my search what a great little place . Let me start off and say we had a great waitress ! I don't rememberer her name but she had a lot of tattoos and older excellent! We started off with French onion soups out this world! Then Chesse steak and burgers . They were also non the money ! The place is small and basically a bar with a few table and tons of tvs . But the crowd seems family oriented which is great for small children. We went to the River Grille on a local friend's recommendation. The vibe is "dive bar" when you walk in but the friendly wait staff and the corporate Friday casual dress of the fellow diners put that to rest. I was urged to try the lobster / crab bisque and wow, I'm so glad I was! Not the most dietetic of soups but who the heck cares? I suppose they could offer a discount coupon for an angioplasty with every fifth bowl but once you try it, you won't care. I then ordered the shrimp Po Boy. Great crispy bread (weak bread will destroy any sandwich) and killer spicy fries mark the dish. The filling, while tasty and filled with fresh goodness didn't have quite enough shrimp for this glutton. I brought half of the sandwich home (that bisque really filled me up) and let my fussy wife taste it. She called it delish and I suspect we're headed back for a date real soon. My fellow diners - two foodie friends - had the crab cake over risotto. It's billed as an appetizer but it proved enough of a meal with the bisque for them. I snagged a taste from one of their plates and after one bite, I smiled... a lot. The room, packed with long-lunch Friday diners, was really loud and the non-stop TV screens showing martial arts fighters beating the snot out of each other reinforced the dive bar vibe. However, don't be fooled, this is a friendly place with great food. I feel it's not a good first date spot but third or fourth date? Maybe if the first few went well and you're trying to show your inner bad boy/girl. Plus, you won't have to get a tattoo to rock that meme. They have a private parking lot and an active, full service bar - important insider facts. What a night at the River Grille. Went here with a couple colleagues after a long work day and it started some with some sh*t service. Then we went outside to finish our drinks. Shortly after someone who "fell asleep" at the wheel drove into a parked car and nearly killed someone and damaged 4 other cars. Luckily we were outside and my colleague literally saved the person's life by shouting to him LOOK OUT LOOK OUT LOOK OUT!!! My other colleague and I stood there in total fear and disbelief that we were also about to get mowed down. Don't go here because Greg apparently gets hit by cars frequently and the other patrons only care about their cars. Once everyone found out it was Greg they all walked inside and the owner of one of the cars exclaimed "my car!". read more

First time trying this place and very impressed! Our waitress was really friendly and the food came out fairly quickly. We got the French onion soup since it was what everyone was recommending, and it was delicious! We also had the crab cake appetizer, and then split a Reuben! All of the dishes had some weird spices to them (which some people may like), and the Reuben was a little greasy. Love this place for a local higher end dive in Chatham. Went there on A friday evening with some friends and had a good time. Love the beer on tap and the bartenders are great. I think the food in general is pretty good, although portions are too big (which for some people is a good thing). This time I got the Chicken lettuce wrap and unfortunately I wasn't a Fan of those. The ratio of chicken to the rest of the ingredients was off and the chicken was dry and didn't taste great. Was average at best. Howevever the ambience more than made up for it. Also a band came out at 11pm and rocked the house. For me that was a good time to come on because was able to have plenty of time to catch up with my friends before they showed up. I have had the wings, Fries, veggie burgers there. All are solid, but nothing I would call exceptional. read more

Finally had an opportunity to actually eat at River Grill tonight, of course in the tents outside. Man, the food is really good here. I didn't read the full description but it was a shock to have something so powerful and pungent to overtake the expensive meat....took two of the three slider home...literally washed the meat off...restarted it and it was delicious. Really wanted to like this place, but in the end it just came up short. Our server was inattentive and more or less uncertain as to basic questions of the menu. For some odd reason, 2 employees decided to use the table right next to us to loudly sort silverware and roll it up into napkins. I understand that this needs to be done, but in the dining room, next to diners? It was more or less akin to having someone ringing a bell next to us for an extraordinary amount of time. Thai chicken lettuce wraps were served with overcooked rubbery chicken. This very same chicken made an appearance in my wife's salad. It was more or less inedible in both dishes. Buffalo chicken tenders were as expected. Fried chicken tenders with Frank's Red Hot sauce. Absolutely fine. At least this chicken seemed fresh and properly cooked. Comically we asked for some carrots and celery to accompany the dish. We were told they'd bring extra celery but that they don't offer carrots in the restaurant. However, there were carrots served with the lettuce wraps. Just one example of our server's ineptitude. Burgers (3) all ordered medium arrived well done. Asked for onion rings instead of fries. Server told us no problem. Didn't mention that there would be an upcharge. Only $2, but should have been mentioned. I'm not so certain our server was even aware as he seemed pretty oblivious. Oddly, on the menu, a side of fries and a side of onion rings are the exact same price. Not quite sure why the upcharge even occurred. After dinner, our plates were cleared and our server simply ignored us. He walked by plenty of times. No offer of dessert. Pretty much no acknowledgement that we were still there. Had to fight for his attention just to get a check. At that time the restaurant only had a smattering of patrons. It was simply odd. Decent beer selection. Pretty nice bar area with multiple TVs and high-top tables. Might be a decent place to grab a plate of nachos (which looked excellent) or some wings and watch a game. Don't think I'll be back with friends or family. Simply was unimpressed by food and service alike. read more

This place has gone from my favorite spot in town and has sadly turned into hot garbage. The food is totally inconsistent. The service is terrible (except for Chris). One of the day bartenders is more interested in using her fake body parts to get big tips from men than serving anyone else. The owner on site is usually on his phone. Very good burgers, one of the best I've had anywhere. The restaurant is a bit pricey based on the menu but with the lunch special the burger was a decent deal at around $12. Very crispy bun, fresh ingredients and tasty patty. It was really delicious. The restaurant was really packed during a weekday lunch. Guess a lot of Chatham people don't got a typical 9-5? They also had a pesto grilled chicken sandwich that was pretty good. It was rather mild in flavor yet tasty. The meat was pretty tender. read more

The food is good here and the bar is fun as well. My only concern is that the chef uses to much spices on everything. Someone has to remind them that when using fresh herbs (which I love) you only use very little because they are stronger. read more

Excellent place to go to for a family dinner. The place has a cozy feeling and a warm atmosphere. The food comes out relatively slowly, mostly because there are tons of people dining there each night. There is a small bar in the center of the restaurant, and and one of the things that I love about it is the little electronic jukebox when you first walk in, which plays songs when selected. 8/10 in my book read more

A blue collar dive bar disguised in Morris County suburbia. The dining room is always clean. Evenings get loud and crowded. Personal favorite are the wings with Hans Hot Sauce. This place has been on my list to try for sometime.THE RIVER GRILLE in Chatham is located in the industrial part of town. They have parking in the back and a few tables and chairs outside .The minute I came though the door I noticed a horseshoe style bar and several tables at the far end. To the left and up the stairs they have more seating. This is not a big place, I'm not quite sure how loud it is at night but I think if your looking for a quite place this is not for you. If on the other hand your looking for good food then this is for you.. I decided to sit at the bar for lunch with my girlfriend so I could talk to the bartender and get some suggestions about their menu. The bartender who was working the lunch shift was Rebecca. She was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. I decided to order a club soda with lemon along with the CANDIED ALMOND, STRAWBERRY, AND GOAT CHEESE SALAD. It had Baby greens, toasted candied almonds, sliced strawberries topped with goat cheese and a strawberry balsamic vinaigrette. I added GRILLED CHICKEN on top for added protein. My salad was delicious and very flavorful. The combination of sweet strawberries, and candied almonds counter balanced the creamy goat cheese. The strawberry balsamic dressing pulled the entire salad together. The presentation was lovely. I was left feeling full and satisfied.... My friend had the THAI CHICKEN WRAPS. She's avoiding carbs and grains. This was a perfect dish ..... You can build your own wraps with Thai chili chicken ,avocado, cucumbers, carrots and a sweet chili sauce all in crunchy romaine lettuce.. It had a sweet and spicy component to it...I would definitely order these.... I really wanted to try their award winning TRUFFLE MAC N CHEESE with applewood smoked bacon and ham, wild mushrooms, swiss, provolone and gruyere cheese with white truffle oil. I will definitely have to return for some of this. RIVER GRILLE has bands on the weekends . They also have flat screens all around for all sports enthusiasts. The waitress who has red hair initially told us it would be a 20 minute wait. She then disappeared and we didn't see her for the until time we were waiting. Other tables were getting seated right away. We waited for over 50 minutes and we eventually saw her and asked when we would be seated. she flipped out on us and called us rude for asking and rolled her eyes at us and stormed off. Stumbled on this local joint while visiting the nearby mall. What really drew my boyfriend and I in was the amazing looking French onion soup! A small restaurant that's self seating we picked an opened high top and were soon greeted by the bartender who was pulling double duty. We ordered two beers, the portobello mushroom salad, French onion soup and the buffalo chicken dip. The salad was really big and flavorful! Full of fresh mozzarella cheese and balsamic portobello mushrooms - I really enjoyed it but it was way too big to finish. The French onion soup was absolutely delicious!! The broth was rich and fully developed and served with herb, cheesy crusty bread. I think the buffalo chicken dip portion was great for a large table as it was huge but I'd have liked some blue cheese mixed into the dip for some flavor. Our trip here was quick and filling!
