Stopped in for breakfast on an early Sunday morning and weren't many cars there. Upon walking in we were greeted by the friendly staff. The booth table was smaller than the seats themselves. I other than that seemed to be pretty nice inside but wasn't nothing too special. Although we aren't there for looks we are there for breakfast. After looking at the menu the prices appear to be pretty fair. I ordered the meat omelette, hash browns w/ cheese peppers and onions, rye toast. My wife got the eggs, French toast and bacon. My dad got the 8oz ribeye with 3 eggs, hashbrowns and rye toast. The portions were a nice size and the rye toast was thick cut. Surprisingly each meal was around $11. Although once I got the bill I noticed they did hit pretty hard on the cheese peppers and onions. Overall it wasn't a bad breakfast. Nice portions and fair price. I just wouldn't add the extras for the hash browns unless you want to pay an extra $4.50. read more

Found this place on Yelp when me and my fiance were out of town for a getaway weekend. This was one of the few places open, with LOTS on the menu. We decided to order for pickup since it was just down the street. Prices were decent, portions were HUGE and food was decent! Food wasn't amazing but it was some good diner food for sure! I really liked the gyro meat and veggies I got!!! I would DEF get that again, just needed some hummus and gyro type tahini/taziki sauce stuff. The place itself is actually REALLY cute! Know now that it's a cute little diner I definitely wouldn't mind stopping in and dining in! What a terrible place... I spent $12.00 for 2 eggs, hash browns and coffee. Apparently they have a $2 upcharge if you sub hash browns for home fries (and no, they don't tell you this when you order and no, you don't get the home fries with your 1/2 cup of grey, previously frozen hash browns). I asked for them to be crispy and they weren't. My egg yolks were broken/overcooked and the coffee was as weak as hot water. If you're in the Point and looking for a place to eat breakfast, go anywhere else. You'll be much happier. read more

It's been a very long since I've left a review of any restaurant. I hate to leave a negative review as restaurants were hit pretty hard throughout COVID, but people need to be warned about this place. Just don't go. The first impression was the boarded up front door that has half a sheet of plywood covering the broken glass on the lower half. That should have been enough for me to turn around and leave, but I was in the middle of a diabetic low and really, really needed to eat. Quickly. We had gone to two other restaurants prior to River Diner only to find they were not open until later in the day. As my sugar dropped, it became, "The next place we find, we HAVE to stop there!" River Diner was it. It was just after noon when we arrived. There seemed to be a change of shift, as the first server to come to our table was not the same person who served us. Our server was kind and pleasant but we waited a very long time for her to come to our table to take our order. Close to 15 minutes. Enough time to watch the annoying informercial on the two TV screens that one cannot avoid in this place. I ordered a seafood combo that was supposed to come with two cod fillets, two perch and two jumbo shrimp. What arrived at my table was one fillet of cod, one fillet of perch and about 20 deep fried salad shrimp. It was a lump of greasy, over-cooked, flavorless crap. I'm 100% sincere when I tell you there was ZERO flavor in everything on that plate except for the inordinate amount of salt they put on the fish. A pool of old oil came to the surface every time I cut a piece of fish. The tartar sauce that accompanied my meal was gross. It had no relish in it and appeared to be really old, yellow mayonnaise. My server even warned me about the tartar sauce as she brought it to my table. I ate the fish because I had to get something in my system to fight the low blood sugar. I regretted that about an hour later. Being near the water, I had hoped for good quality fish. The fish I was served was frozen, fried to the point of no return, flavorless, garbage. Our server took $10 off my meal, which was greatly appreciated. I tipped her $10 on a $19 bill because none of this was her fault. The River Diner would do themselves a favor if they found a cook that could actually tell when something is over-cooked, and knew when to change out the deep fryer oil. Never again. read more

Went yesterday for dinner, waited 40 minutes to eat and when it came the fried Kibbe was burnt to a crisp and my gyro meat was burnt to a crisp. When we told the waitress she didn't even bother to go back and tell the kitchen staff she just said she was sorry and walked away from our table. Never again! They served me a Greek salad with rancid, I mean rancid olives that I put in my mouth! I spit it out but it was clear no one cared. I forgot the name, but there is this glorious, cheesy skillet packed with everything that's delicious about breakfast--including sausage gravy. Umm, and it's fan-tastic! Everything else was so-so at this little Point Place spot. Pretty standard diner food, except for the entire second menu full of mediterranean noms. After mowing down my veggie omelet, I looked over at our neighbor's table and saw the gyro. It looked divine. My omelet was decent, but it was Jason's skillet thing-y that really stole the show. I'm almost certain he was 2 seconds away from stabbing my arm with a fork because I kept stealing fork-fulls. It would have been worth it, though. The orange juice and coffee were both pretty terrible. I'm never really one to complain about that sort of stuff, but I couldn't even finish one cup of coffee. Ick. The bf compared the OJ to Tang, if that's any indication on how he felt about it. Other than that, there wasn't too much to complain about. Fast, good service. Coffee rounds (even though it tasted horrible) were made about ever 5 minutes so you never went without. And it's really the only diner in the immediate area. So we continue to stand and wait. A waitress finally walks by (the only one who looks to be working in a Sunday morning) and tells us she will be right with us. She clearly understood there wasn't a place for us to sit. So we waited. The cashier finally finishes cashing people out and with a snarky tone says "I said go ahead and have a seat anywhere". I mention that there is no place to sit and she responds with "there are e chairs right there" as she points to a table with 4 chairs that has someone sitting at it. I am sorry, I wasn't going to share my breakfast dining experience with another group. We left and went up the road to another place. First impressions are key. My son had the chocolate chip pancakes which is said we're good. I saw others eating omelets that looked giant; wish I'd ordered that. Two things though. The table cloths were encrusted with old dried food. The table top had plastic over the cloth and was clean but the table cloths really, really need washed. The other was the coffee. I don't know what this place only has 3.5 stars. We stopped in for breakfast since no other place was open before 8am and I hate fast food. The other reviews are correct; it is small and outdated but it's a diner. And as far as diner food goes, it's pretty amazing. We both had the all meat skillet. It was pretty perfect. Great balance of meats, fluffy eggs and spectacular sausage gravy. The biscuits are delicious and well buttered. My coffee was fresh and the iced tea was on par with Starbucks. The service was excellent. Not dirt cheap for the meal but well worth the price. I will definitely stop in next time I'm in the area. read more

Waited an additional half an hour in the lobby with a waitress pitching her bad attitude my way because I wanted to spend $80 at her place of employment. Went there on a Sunday night. Service was quite attentive and overall experience was very good. It's a nice mixture of American and Middle Eastern food. Very reasonably priced. $20 for both of us to eat including tip. On the American side, my son got the Monster BLT made with 1lb of bacon. The bacon was nice and crispy with a good flavor and hearty feel. Fries were fresh and crisp. Only complaint was the type of ketchup they provide. It was an off-brand and was a little too sweet. I got the fattoush salad that was amazing. The beef shawarma sandwich was a bit of a disappointment. They used standard roast beef in the sandwich instead of true shawarma beef. Overall great place! This is our first and will be our only visit. I wasn't sure if we should seat ourselves or wait but a "regular" customer told me to "pop a squat". The air conditioning was stuck on ridiculously cold. Dirty tables, so there was limited places to sit. The place is kind of junky looking from the outside and not much better inside. TV channel on kids programs with the volume so loud you couldn't hear the person talking across from you. Extremely slow service, people that came in after us received their meals first. Generous portions, meals were hot when we finally got them. Taste was ok. Several servers seem to be working, maybe they need to hire more cooking staff! Based on the reviews by other patrons, I was excited to stop here on a trip through Toledo. The actual experience, however, was ... Well, words kind of escape me right now. I'll just relate some details of the meal, and let you choose your own descriptive words. The two waitresses were friendly enough, but one had only been working there three days, and was quick to mention that, again and again and again ... We ordered some appetizers, and three meals. The food came out in shifts, with a basket of onion rings appearing first, and then one person's meal (albeit incorrectly prepared), and then drubs and drabs until the entire meal was present. So we dig in ... And the falafels are clearly a boxed mix AND raw in the middle. The chili mac was a heaping portion, but the chili had a rancid taste. The sweet potato fries looked good, but had been fried together into one big clump. Of the three people, only one was remotely satisfied with their meal ... A bacon cheeseburger and hot chocolate. Then, on top of the food mishaps, there was a squadron of flies who continually came around ... Until one person at the table killed them. And as the proverbial cherry on top, when the waitress came to ask if we were ready for the check, and there were three mostly full plates still on the table, she didn't mention that detail and presented the check with a "Bam!" ala Emril Legasse. This is one of the worst experiences I've had with a restaurant before. I had ordered off of doordash, For my brother: Mac and cheese and fries For me:a philly cheese with NO MUSHROOMS, For my mom: a chicken shawarma. The server calls to let me know they're out of Mac and cheese and when I asked what else there was, she pushed for coleslaw after i had said no, then she said "Well what do you want?" And I didn't answer fast enough so she hung up on me. I called back twice, no answer. Finally got her to pick up on the third phone call and I told her I'd take cottage cheese. The doordash driver gets there and waits for the order. The server then proceeds to tell him that they didn't have cottage cheese and to just let me know and doordash should take care of it. So I called and the server was like "First of all, you should know the driver came in twice. He wasn't patient" Okay but for one he was just trying doing his JOB. "He was rushing and I told him if he needs to go then to let you know, I didn't have time to call you" Okay but you had time to argue with the driver (per the MANAGER) but you didn't have time to call me? I then proceeded to open my philly and there's mushrooms on it, I can't eat mushrooms because they make me sick. I specifically ordered it WITHOUT mushrooms. So I called and asked to speak with the manager. He tried to argue with me saying they had cottage cheese and I was just being angry. Wait, what did he say again? They have cottage cheese!! I asked him WHY the server decided to lie to the driver and me, and his response? "She's too damn lazy to go to the cooler and get the cottage cheese." Excuse me? So my brothers out half of his meal because your server doesn't want to do her job?? Anyways, I told him about the mushrooms and he tried to tell me that it comes with mushrooms and I should've ordered it without mushrooms. "I'm looking at the damn receipt and it said NO MUSHROOMS."
