Looking things over, I was surprised that most of the menu was dedicated to breakfast offerings or tex-mex, with just a couple of hot dog choices. Regardless, I opted for a coney dog, Chicago dog, and onion rings, with a water to drink. Before tax and tip, my bill came to $12.51, which definitely felt pricy. There were only two other tables in use when I arrived, so the kitchen had my food ready pretty quickly. Unfortunately they forgot about the onion rings, so my waitress had to re-order them. My coney dog was fine, just indistinguishable from any of its brethren I have eaten over the years. The Chicago style also tasted very average, but was at least more visually appealing. Both were over-priced at $3.57 and $4.97 respectively, especially given their sizes. At least the onion rings were hot and plentiful. However when I went to pour myself some ketchup, I discovered the lid had been put on incorrectly, as it shot as much ketchup out the side as it did the nozzle. Had the bottle been rotated 90 degrees when I squeezed it, I would have looked like a GSW victim. PROS: attentive enough service, speedy kitchen CONS: small portions of just average food at a surprisingly high price Overall I found McCord Coney Island as being OK and might or might not return.

The toast is made of high quality rye bread (Schwebel's?) with plenty of butter (and it's always perfectly toasted). THE HAM!!! Oh my god, the ham! This isn't some awful ham roll, no no! It's a slice from an actual ham! Real HAM! I was told it's Dearborn ham and I'd bet that it is. If you're not familiar, Dearborn makes great stuff. So, my issues... Not sure, but the coffee seems like it changed. It's weaker now and lacks the flavor from the coffee I remember from the past. They also stopped garnishing the plates with a slice of orange. I LOVED that slice of orange. Finally, the wait staff. They have some great waitresses but every once in a while, I get one that really doesn't know how it works. Because the server can really screw up a meal, I've avoided going back for months at a time. One time the waitress brought everything except the toast. I started eating the ham and potatoes. By the time she brought the toast, the eggs were cold and I couldn't eat them. She still charged my though. Didn't go back for a year, I swear. It's really important to always bring the complete meal. If the toast chef was asleep at the wheel and the entire breakfast becomes ice cold, have the line re-fire the order. It's not the customer's fault. Anyway, it's a nice, family place. Things usually go well, but there are those times... Oh, the place gets crazy busy on weekend mornings, especially with the after church crowd, so go early or plan on a wait.
