He wanted to check it out since the one by our church had closed down and we hadn't stopped by one in a while. It felt a little bit eerie going in there since everything felt too in its place, quiet, and like a blast in the past because of how long we hadn't bin in a Rite Aid. I was bummed that they didn't have a wall of frozen desserts to pick their Thrifty ice cream from or maybe I missed it? Anyways, we and our way to the ice cream counter and got ourselves some ice cream with my go to always being Chocolate Malted Crunch, but was able to get a taste of my husband's Cherry Garcia ice cream. Would have tried a different flavor if they let us sample ice creams, but they don't. Both were as good as I remembered though we wished there were more cherries in the Cherry Garcia. read more

2025-07-31 Just got a text that the Rite Aid has closed and my prescriptions have been moved to CVS. Good bye, will miss coming to this location as it was convenient. My wife just had one of her prescriptions transferred to Walgreens down in Alhambra without anyone telling her. She just started getting emails from Walgreens that her prescription was ready to pick up. She thought it was spammed until she called them up and confirmed that her prescription was transferred. Sorry to see this store go. The end is near. read more

I have to say, this was quite possibly the most unhelpful and rudest staff I've ever dealt with. I was trying to get a new prescription filled and checked in with Rite Aid over the weekend. On Saturday, no one answered the phone the entire day. When I finally got through on Sunday, the pharmacist who answered told me to "speak faster" and asked why I was calling. I explained that I needed to fill a prescription and told her what it was for. She said they didn't have my prescription, even though it had been prescribed days ago to this Rite-Aid- which was confirmed by another pharmacist at the same store on Friday. All I was told then was I would need to verify insurance for them to order my medication. However, this new Sunday pharmacist kept insisting they didn't have my prescription or the medication, and when I asked if they could order it, she flatly said they couldn't. After asking why, she hung up on me. Avoid the South Pasadena location at all costs. The pharmacy is disorganized; the pharmacists here are extremely rude and don't seem to care at all. read more

Art was really annoyed to be scooping ice cream today. Refused to let our 4 year old have a cup for his ice cream with a cone on top. Stated there were supply issues. My little guy is independent but also clumsy. I told him to be careful and not to drop it and lo and behold he did. Of course ruined his day. I'm sorry a cup and a cone was too much for Art today. But I hope he finds a job he likes better. I'm very unhappy with how I was treated by some pharmacist lady on the phone today. I called at 10:15 am today during my lunch break because my medication was supposed to be filled on the 20th and it's now the 23rd, so I asked the woman if it has been filled yet and she said that it hasn't been and said basically "bye" and hung up on me before I could mention that I'm out of my meds and they should have been filled 3 days ago. Flash forward to after work, around 3:44pm I called again because I go into work really early tomorrow and I NEED my medication, I called and immediately got hung up on a couple of times. Then I called a couple more times, got through to someone and I think it was the same woman on the phone. She was rude, sighed really loudly and for a long time, asked for date of birth and put me on hold a couple of times. Must've been busy, but it's no excuse to be rude. I wasn't rude back, I was very polite and just patiently waited to get off of hold. She then told me they'd work on it and that was that. I'm pissed, whoever that woman is needs to be spoken too. So very disrespectful and rude to a customer who desperately needs their medication. I work in customer service and would never speak to someone over the phone or in person like that. She clearly dreaded having to deal with me. read more

Customer service is better at the pharmacy, but there is room for improvement. The pharmacy technician who attended to us was pleasant and professional, but rushed; there were tons of people in line. Give her credit for being calm. Hire more people like this, or at least train employees on customer service. read more

If you get a text saying your rx is ready, don't assume that it is true. If you call your rx in through the automated system, you absolutely should not believe that it will be ready when it says it will be. It will be ready much, much later. Once your rx is allegedly filled, then you have to go to the store. There is always a line. I am here at 2 pm on a Tuesday and the line is 6-7 people deep. If you come on a weekend, leave yourself plenty of time. This pharmacy is never a quick stop, but you should bring a lawn chair and cornhole on the weekends. The line moves slooowwwllly. They have very high staff turnover, so it's not uncommon for the person helping you to be confused. It's like they're holding my prescriptions hostage! When I got in line today I saw him being sweet to an elderly lady and thought 'I'm so glad that lovely person is going to be my cashier again today' hence, he deserves a review! I prefer coming to Rite Aid than going to any other competitor drug store chains because it is always cleaner and brighter inside the store. Not to mention, there is always someone greeting me upon entering the store. Particularly this location in South Pasadena, is cleaner with friendly staff. I never had any problems and everyone here was helpful when I asked questions about stock and etc. Pharmacy staff is great too. I get my vaccinations and mom gets her medication here which is always on time with little to no wait. Plenty of private parking is available and theres a lot of stuff in stock compared to other locations based on my experiences. Dont forget to get some THRIFTY ICE CREAM! Oh! Download their app for weekly ad with lots of coupons to use! I bought 4 CeraVe products for $35 with their $10 coupon off of $40 along with BOGO free sale and manufacturer coupons. The rite aid app has become less and less reliable for months...inconsistent auto refills, states Rx is "NOT REFILLABLE" when the label clearly says there are multiple refills left, ordering refills online and not having the system/pharmacy follow through. Also, calling after hours and expecting to be able to get the automated system but getting the fax tone instead. New pharmacy staff is inconsistent, new manager is not managing to achieve optimum customer care and satisfaction. Cost cutting is obvious. We were thinking of switching to CVS a few months ago, but decided to stay. Time to reconsider? read more

The last kick in the A before I leave this pharmacy was transferring my prescriptions to another one and the new pharmacy said, Rite Aid SP will not contact new pharmacies. How will people transfer there prescriptions? Yes, of course you can call the doctor but WTF? What else are employees doing now that all stores are closing? The new pharmacy told me it's literally c&p the prescription list and a few buttons and the transfer is done. Typical lazy rude behavior from the store. Your store is closing so I'm sure you're thrilled not to deal with customers and answering the phone and then immediately hanging up. Enjoy unemployment you all deserve it. Avoid this pharmacy! 20-30min plus after I was told 5 hours prior my prescription would be ready. Avoid at all costs.

They hired a new pharmacy manager who fired the entire pharmacy staff and replaced them with all new people. I understand it takes a while to acclimate, but a couple of months is enough of a grace period. I consistently have issues with refills being not being ready on time, staff ordering generic meds instead of brand name without my consent, long lines, being placed on hold for 30 mins and a staff that lacks the friendliness of the old staff. When I expressed frustration last time the employee at the counter simply shrugged. The icing on the cake was when I called to see if my prescription was ready for pickup and it hadn't even been ordered - despite calling it in 3 days ago. I wish I knew where Ifon (old pharmacist) went as I would happily have followed her to her new job. read more

I needed something last minute, so I stopped here to pick it up. The store was clean and well organized, which made it easy to find what I was looking for. They also have a decent selection of wine & spirits, in addition to grocery items, cosmetics, sundries, pharmaceuticals, and Thrifty Ice Cream! This location is much nicer than the CVS by my house. It's near my P.O. Box so I'll be shopping here instead. Hopefully, next time the Self-Checkout will be working. read more

Rite Aid/Thrifty ice cream is one of the best! We had time to kill before an event we had in the area, so what better an idea than grab some ice cream! Lol They didn't have my favorite flavor- the birthday cake one, but they did have a limited edition flavor: Circus Animal Cookie! Remember those days you used to eat those Mother's cookies??! It definitely reminded me and brought me back in time for a moment... Customer service was great, and the cashier allowed us to try the ice cream flavors beforehand. I filled my prescriptions here because their location is convenient for me, however I will no longer be coming here. I understand losing me as a patient is no big deal for a big corporate chain, but what is concerning is their lack of understanding of pharmacy law. The pharmacy technician was like an operator with no empathy. I had her transfer me to the pharmacist and she just test ran the claim and my script went through with no problem. The pharmacist (Katherine) made the tech tell me they couldn't do it for me again... I asked why they couldn't do this for me.. They just said "we can't do it". They didn't mention anything about a Rite Aid policy or anything. The law states if a patient requests a certain amount with a valid prescription you are able to do so. Do to privacy reasons I am not disclosing my medication on Yelp .. but I think the pharmacy will be able to decipher what prescription I was requesting. If I were you, I wouldn't trust coming to this pharmacy because of the lack of knowledge their pharmacist has for pharmacy law. read more

What happened to the pharmacy? Used to have a wonderful team that had been there for years. Ifon was the pharmacist. They truly cared about customers. Now, the entire team is gone, they appear to have floaters (never see the same person twice), no one picks up the phone, days to till a prescription, inadequate number of staff, and long lines to pick up a prescription. Came by to buy some Mucinex and the lady said I have to show her my ID to prove I'm a proper age. Instead of just verifying my age, what they actually do is scan the back to your drivers license, which gives them all of your information on your drivers license full name your address, date of birth and drivers license number. They do this because, they want to abuse their right and data mine as much marketing information as possible. I've held off over the years complaining in a Yelp review about this Rite Aid staff's weirdly abysmal lack of service and hostility toward customers, mostly because often times it appears to be perhaps a by-product of poor management, low pay, and under-educated, uncultured employees. Since I began shopping here over 20 years ago, I noticed the poor service and rudeness has increased. Yesterday's experience was so creepy that I feel the need to YELP: I bought $38 worth of items, even though the shelves for cold/flu remedies were almost bare and I'd come in to stock up in the face of rising Covid numbers. I needed to use the restroom but figured my request might be more urgently responded to if I was obviously a paying customer. There was only one person in line and the cashier was helping her. Next to her was another cashier helping someone. After paying, I asked the cashier: Me: Can I use the restroom? She: Someone would have to open it with a key. You have to wait. Me: Can you call someone? She: No. That would be me or her and we can't do it as long as there are customers in line. (I didn't look behind to see how many were in line. She pointed to a guy waiting to the side and said he was also waiting for the restroom.) She: You can go across the street to Starbucks. (It may or may not worth noting that I was hobbling around with a cane after fracturing my leg a couple months ago.) Me: Can I talk to the manager? She: I am the manager. And yet...It actually seems worse than that time when one of their employees approached me outside the store where I was enjoying the ice cream cone that I'd just bought and accused me of shoplifting because I'd had unpaid items in my hands at the ice cream counter. After seeing the longggg line waiting for the cashier and having paid for my cone, I'd put them on a shelf and left. I suppose it's fighting City Hall to even mention that all I feel when I think about shopping here is dread and anxiety. read more

This location used to be my go to for basic supplies and needs in a quick pinch. It was convenient and close by. As of last year October 2024, the shelves were barely stocked. I read that it was going out of business and then it is not. I went back there recently a few weeks ago hoping that basic items like the mouthwash and hand sanitizer were stocked. Nope, unfortunately, it's pretty much the same situation like last year. I ended up going in and out within a few minutes disappointed that the items I needed were out. I asked the clerk on why the inventory was still so low and when it will be restocked. He seemed quite rude and defensive when I asked a simple question. I don't bother coming back to this Rite Aid anymore and I find most of my toiletry needs at Pavillions.I don't know how much longer this place will stay in business if they keep going like this. Is there a zero-star option? Rite-Aid Pharmacy in South Pasadena makes a strong case for a change to the rating system. This isn't forgetting to 86 the onions on a burger; pharmaceutical drugs alter lives and behaviors. Aim higher than the fast-food errors you make each time I pick up a script. I'll avoid the insults to individual staff and just say that all of the issues I've faced here on consecutive visits are enough to be embarrassed for this operation as a whole, not just an individual. The representatives in the pharmacy this evening were friendly, hardworking, and empathetic. They are very overwhelmed due to other pharmacies nearby closing. The store was packed with customers and they hustled and were very kind and apologetic for the wait. I appreciated they took the time to explain why it was taking a little while. I used to drive to Target (both in Pasadena and in Alhambra), but for quick things I need but don't necessarily need to go to Target for... I like to come here. Its quick, on the way home, private parking lot, not usually super busy inside the store so you're able to kind of go in and out in a hurry. I will say that I like buying my femme products for the time of the month at Target more as I feel like they have a wider selection -- one of the ones I typically would get at Target aren't found here and I also think the deals might be better there. The store is clean and the person at the register has always been super nice. Thrifty's ice cream, a full pharmacy, and liquor can all be found here as well. read more

There were a lot of wrong merchant when bought from this store and even the refund processing was wrong. It took a lot of time when I contacted my credit card and refund the items that I refused because they charged me two times for an item and they forgot to refund the whole amount when I refused the whole items! read more

I ordered Rite Aid delivery from their website. My daughter desperately needed antihistamine because she broke out in hives, and it never showed up. All my kids had fevers as well as myself so we couldn't drive there. We were really counting on good customer service. I made sure my phone number was included in the order, and that I checked the box to allow substitutions. It never came. I called the pharmacy to see if they even had it in stock so I could ask a neighbor to go for me. It was now bedtime. My kids are crying. I was on hold with the pharmacy for 20 minutes before someone new picked up the phone to say I called the wrong department. Then it took another 10 minutes to be told by the manager that they don't deliver even though I ordered delivery directly through the website. I'm forever done with Rite Aid. read more
