Didn't have to wait too long, for a Friday night B-day dinner ... The place was very busy, however. Started with one of the best tasting and packed bowls of Clam Chowder we've ever had (excellent). My wife had the Stuffed Flouder and I had the Seafood Mac and Cheese. Both were incredible. Light and delicate sauces, not overpowering, as so many area dishes are ... Riptide does it right, with mild flavors that accompany the seafood, rather than try to be the source of the flavor. The stuffing was a wonderful combination with the mild Flounder and the cheese sauce a marvelous pairing with the delicate Scallops, Shrimp, and Crab in my meal. Nicely prepared and presented. I'd give our meal 5 stars, but the $35 and $36 price tags detracted from what otherwise would have been an incredible evening meal. We will definitely come again. read more

There is no beachfront view from the restaurant. Prices are very high for extremely average-bad food. I ordered the burger and it tasted like it came out of the freezer and was overcooked. Staff was very polite and fast but the food is not worth the price. After writing this review I used the bathroom which quickly became an unpleasant experience when i tried to flush the toilet and water started spitting out of the handle onto my hand and the floor. I informed the staff who told me the problem has "been getting worse". Maybe use the price of your food and fix basic plumbing. read more

I live 1.5 hours away from this place and let me tell you, I went once while at the beach and then again the very next day. I also drove out here just for a Sunday lunch. ITS THAT GOOD. Carlos and the pecan tan Tom Selleck mustache bartender (sorry didn't catch your name) were amazing. Coming from someone who works in hospitality that's the first thing I notice. The service. SPOT ON. Do not skip the clam chowder. I repeat DO NOT skip the clam chowder. It was unbelievably good with bacon or pork in it? Gave it a smoky flavor. Unreal. So good. The Caesar dressing tastes homemade but can't be sure. The oyster combo and baked oysters were the best. Not overcooked like most places and tiny. Just done PERFECTLY. I'd like to take a second to talk about the stuffed grouper. I've never had anything so good. And I'm not even a grouper fan. Wow. One star is missing bc on the next night I decided to try the "famous" steak tips. Nope. As a cook I know what happened. They were marinating in a Worcestershire or type marinade which almost cures/dries the meat and once you cook it, it dries out fast. They were like leather but I didn't complain bc my fat husband ate them and they didn't go to waste. But you can't call something famous and have it be bad. The food here was amazing! The oysters were very fresh and nice in size. I sat at the bar and was greeted quickly by Carlos, the bartender. I ordered two drinks, a cup of clam chowder, a dozen oysters and the rumicane shrimp. I 100% suggest the rumicane shrimp! They were so good, I ordered some togo as well. The service was quick, my food came out hot and in less than 15 mins from ordering. The clam chowder was a 4/5, I think it was lacking a bit of flavor and the potato chunks were a bit large. It was still good but I might try something else instead. The cocktail sauce mmmehhh... not the best, taste a bit too much like ketchup. Amazing food, everything we had was fresh and flavorful. We started off with the chicken nachos, had a nice island twist. We had the snapper and the pineapple rice with chicken and shrimp skewers. Riptides has a full bar and many adorable craft cocktail offerings. I went for the house margarita (several) which were excellent! While I normally wait until later to type my reviews, today I am growing old waiting on my grandson to finish his all-you-can-eat crab legs. We came here for Mother's Day, 8 of us. 2 had the AYCE crab legs which they both say were phenomenal. I had blackened red snapper. A couple of us had popcorn shrimp which were crisp and fresh and tasty. Two got the NY Strip and it was cooked (rare) and amazing--and that is saying A LOT for a seafood restaurant. Our server was Dillon and I cannot say enough good things about him. With 2 people on the AYCE menu, he never missed a lick! Nobody ran out of drink. Nobody ran out of food. Our AYCE diners didn't have to sit around and wait on the next serving. Dillon was always one step ahead of us, super upbeat and friendly, and the show never stopped. While vacationing in Daytona Beach, we decided to give this local gem a try, and it was conveniently located just a short distance from our hotel. Upon arrival, the restaurant has a casual beachy feel and ambiance. The service was good and it was plenty of seating and not a wait. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the mixed drinks were good as well. They offer a wide variety of seafood dishes and platters, but we came specifically for the oysters, and they did not disappoint. The oysters were fresh, flavorful, and a great size. One of the unexpected highlights was the sauce served with the coconut shrimp. It was so good that we started dipping everything in it! Honestly, it's delicious enough that they could sell it. The food is always amazing and fresh!! The hush puppies were fried to perfection, popcorn shrimp was very flavorful, and the coleslaw I actually really did enjoy. Fries were good but still okay, a little hard but wasn't terrible. The only thing I would change was the service. I ordered a Pina Colada and never got my drink the whole time I was there. My stuffed grouper was amazing and according to my boyfriend it was "fire!". Our drinks were great and I have a piggybank coconut head to take home ($21 with alcoholic drink in it). The burger was a burger and he said it was nothing too exciting but wasn't bad either. The gator bites were cooked well but once again nothing too exciting with the seasoning. We were pleasantly surprised by Riptides. We go to New Smyrna Beach almost every weekend and see their advertising on the plane. But it's farther north than we typically like to travel. Today we were on an adventure and realized how close we were to the restaurant and took it as a sign. Where is parking is limited and expensive they have plenty of free parking across the street. We sat in the porch area and it could not have been better. Tyler was our server. He mentioned he was new but had he not mentioned it we would have never known. He was great! Just attentive enough and made sure we had everything we needed. We order the mild wings and the conch fritters for appetizers. Both were fantastic! The wings had a great grilled flavor and the fritters were just chewy enough. The dip that came with the fritters was delicious too. We shared the beach platter fried. It was really hard to determine which was our favorite. I said the conch fritters my husband said the shrimp crab cakes. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed all of it! The outside area was perfect. We sat in the sun and it was the beach day vibe I was going for. We are local-ish 1 county north but it felt like we were on vacation. It was just what we needed today and we certainly be back! Went to Riptide's tonight. Great choice! We got a table in the covered seating. Our server took our drink order which was margaritas. When he brought our drinks we ordered our dinners, I ordered the jumbo shrimp platter which comes with coleslaw, hush puppies and my side of onion rings. My husband ordered the fried fish which also comes with coleslaw, hush puppies and his side of black beans and rice. Drinks delicious and my shrimp I think is the best I've had! Here's the good: service wasn't too bad. Staff was friendly enough. Fried plantains! I love them! Get a bowl of clam chowder. Its well worth the extra $2 over the cost of a cup. Very dense in clam! I don't want to say "here's the bad".... But.... If anyone has EVER gotten "coconut shrimp".... and you expect it to be well battered with coconut... its not! It looks like plain old fried shrimp! My expectations were not met. Thankfully, I have a teenage son who will devour this! This place has that sufers "beach town" vibe to it. I know because i grew up in a beach town! We came here a little after noon on Sunday. Buffalo Bills are the team that gets the big screen with 7 or so smaller screens surrounding the bar. Steelers/Vikings were already on the big screen since they were playing in Dublin on this Sunday. Anyway, it wasn't very crowded since the NFL kickoffs didn't really start until 1 pm. So we started with a half dozen oysters that were a good size (there were actually7!) but things went downhillfrom there . We also ordered a cup of the Surf and Turf soup. The soup came out lukewarm at best. We asked the runner that brought the soup out if he could take it back and heat it up. He did and returned saying the new cup was from a "fresh batch". The 2nd cup was piping hot however there was one piece of "Turf" and a miniscule amount of "Surf." Next up were the main courses. We had the Steak Tip Salad (the server didn't ask how we wanted the steak tips cooked but they came out medium) and the Cedar Plank Salmon (the server did ask how we wanted the salmon cooked) and it came out the requested medium). The vegetables served with the salmon unfortunately tasted like they were sitting a while and we're less than lukewarm while the fully loaded potato was still lukewarm. Anyway, the runner brought all the food and the server took our orders and brought the check but never asked how ANYTHING was or if we wanted desserts. The place was slowly filling up as we left after the 1 pm kickoffs so business is good. We had this place on our list to try due to the good reviews and the crowds we see when we drive by on weekends. Unfortunately it's a one and done for us. Went a few days ago with friends and was not impressed. We have been here before but it's been a couple of years. In my opinion, it has gone downhill regarding the food. The staff is very pleasant and attentive. The food is basic, average Sysco food that you can get at any restaurant, but at a higher price. $12 for a bowl of chowder seems expensive. Be careful if ordering a draft beer. They ask you what size you want. If you order the larger one you'll get a surprise on your bill. It is automatically billed in a souvenir glass at $19!!!! They don't mention this when ordering. Shocker! I guess most people come for the crab legs as the restaurant certainly smelled like crab. None of us ordered crab so can't speak on how they were.
