Great food and exceptional service. The view under the bridge was fun and we loved feeling the breeze and watching the boats float by.

TLDR: Way too expensive for bland low quality food and a simple draft beer and rude service I ordered a blackened fish sandwich (I had to ask what kind of fish - there was no signage as to what the vague description of fish was) with fries and pups. I was by myself so I went to go sit at a long high top counter that was connected to the bar. The lady that took my order very loudly announced that next time I should order from the bar if I was going to sit at the bar - even if it was what seemed to just be a long extension of the bar that was not directly at the bar. I understand this can be typical policy for most restaurants but it was never said to me when I was ordering and I had not been here before so I wasn't sure since all signage says to order at the front before finding seating. She was a bit rude in how loudly she announced it, using my name as she announced it. The "fish" sandwich was very small for the price (market price - which was over $20) and didn't come with anything on it. There was much much more bun than fish. The fish was bland, even with the blackening seasoning and very mushy - not flaky like mahi should be. The fries were extremely bland and I had to heavily salt and pepper them. They were cheap crinkle cut fries that you get from the frozen section of a grocery store and were still gross after seasoning them myself. The pups were ok. I also ordered a beer (Landshark) which was priced at more than $6 for a draft which I thought was very steep, seeing as most places in the area and beyond price that beer around $3-4 at most. The food was extremely expensive for the quality. The added fries and pups were $4.99 extra. The total was $28 (before tip) for a mushy, bland, very small piece of fish on a fish sandwich. Been here a few times before and the service was great, so was the food. On this occasion the service was pretty good, but the food was just meh. Ordered a dozen oysters, they were decent, but there were some real small ones in the batch. Had a scallops salad, it was okay, but there were only about 5 or 6 small scallops. Also ordered fish and shrimp. Nothing on the fish and shrimp was seasoned, not even the fries. Ended up eating the shrimp, some of the fish and three the rest away. Didn't think the meal was worth what we paid. This will probably be my last visit here. Makes me sad, because I really love sitting on the deck and looking out over the water. read more

Very solid, basic seafood place with good prices and seemingly large portions. We went for a lunch. Had a huge fish sandwich with plenty of fries. Had it in, life had clam chowder and fish bites, both of which she liked a lot. On Wednesday, at least this Wednesday, they had Landshark beer for two dollars a glass, can't beat that. It has a real old school vibe. It's mostly outside or open air with lots of fans going. You order when you walk in, then sit down and the food is brought to you. Our Deck Down Under won our decision on where to Eat good seafood at a waterside Cafe! I'm gonna start by saying ....you have to basically wait on yourself. You grab a menu...stand in line to order...find a table..carry your drinks over..then they bring your food order! You are paying very expensive prices to basically wait on yourself. The view is amazing! But for $80, I would expect better table service. The food was good, nothing spectacular that I have to go back after. I had the Blackened Maui Maui Sandwich for $15.50 and to pay $4 extra for Hairy French Fries and hush puppies. The Hush Puppies were good, but there was hair in my fries! The kids got Grilled Cheese and fries & Pups and found hair in their fries too! Kayla got a Philly steak with fries & pups minus the hair! How did she get so lucky?? The iced tea was amazing! Love that the bar is full service. Avoid the wait and the crowd. Today is a gorgeous sunny day. Too nice to stay indoors so we decided to have a drink, lunch and enjoy the view. I had the fried shrimp dinner and my honey had the fish and shrimp dinner. Both were cooked to perfection - fries crispy and the cole slaw crunchy and sweet. I used to live in Port Orange and this was always a go-to spot for the family and for us to take visitors to. Now that we are visitors to the area when on vacation, it's a classic spot for us to grab some fresh fish and peel and eat shrimp. We love the kind staff and the quick service. Great place to have dinner on the waterfront. It was a nice day and we sat outside. We had the jalapeño poppers and pickle spears and they were good. I had the surf and turf which was a half rack of ribs and fried shrimp. The shrimp are large and butterflied nicely. The ribs had really good flavor. This pains me to write because I have been visiting Our Deck Down Under for 24 years. It's a very sentimental spot for my family. We were quite disappointed during our last trip. The food quality has gone down hill. The seafood is super fresh, it's the preparation that is lacking. We ordered some crabcakes which were basically mush compacted and sautéed. While I enjoyed my blackened mahi, my dad had the tuna steak which was overcooked and dry. Also we had fried clam strips which was more batter than clams. The wait is super long, plan ahead. If you don't mind sitting at the bar, you can bypass the line. The outdoor deck area is a great spot especially at sunset and if you have kids, they can feed the fish. read more

Here we are again another year later! Kathy is in her spot behind the bar, which and whom we missed last year. However she seems to have remembered us right off the bat! That's always nice to see no matter where one goes. Well: maybe other than state prison or the local courthouse anyway. First thing my dear Queen Bee wants is their fish spread. As I've noted elsewhere, it's mahi-mahi smoked right here in their own smoker, which is where they also do their ribs. Of course I'm still not gonna waste my tummy space on ribs at a seafood shack. Of course i defer to the Queen Bee, which is why I didn't get conch fritters: again! Well I certainly DID opt for my favorite for dinner: crab cakes! My usual option is the sides of wild rice & pups. Queen Bee couldn't quite make up her mind as I imagined gnawing on those crab cakes. While she figures this out, I'll go back to the smoked fish spread. Good God, that stuff is mahi mahi magic. I never figured I could care that much about smoked fish scraps. I scraped as much outta that cardboard cup as I could get. Order this stuff or rue the reason you never stopped here! Seems like my crab cakes had a lil more filling and less crab than in years past. Wild rice and hush puppies are wild rice and hush puppies. Cakes were still good though; I'd get 'em again. If I meet my cousin here Wednesday then I'll have my chance! Queen Bee for grilled scallops with slaw and pups. Scallops were grilled quite nicely and still tender sweet! They weren't super well seasoned tho, which is why I'd probably get 'em blackened were I to have ordered 'em. Slaw was a not too sweet iteration one doesn't expect to find down south. All in all, not too bad. We cashed out with Kathy to the tune of $93 plus tip. Three pitchers and all the food; not horrible for where we are. Great local seafood restaurant. It was recommended by several people familiar with the area. We ate outside on the deck and enjoyed a great view. We tried the conch fritters as an appetizer and recommended them. We went with shrimp and scallops for our dinner. Excellent choice. Seating out side by water is nice plus tables have umbrellas. Lots of napkins ( your gonna need them). Plus they have bottles of Tarter sauce and cocktail sauce and ketchup. As you walk in menus are on a counter, you can take one find your seat and then take your time to think about your order or you can stand there in line for ordering and figure it out. If you pay cash you get a half pound of shrimp but you gotta spend over $25.00. Once you place your order, you head to your table or bar and they bring your food. We come here time and time again. Every time we come we seem to have a different experience. We'd just come off a fishing boat at the Dunlawton launch and were pretty hungry so we decided to come here since it was close by. It was just after lunch time on a weekday and was still pretty packed, but we got in line, placed our order and found a nice place to sit outside where we could watch the world go by. I ordered the fish sandwich and was pretty pleased with the freshness and taste. The cole slaw is not very exciting but still has good flavor. My husband got a fish basket and our friend got a sandwich as well. Everything was good, and I actually liked the hush puppies this time. Wierd. Service was great, the server came over often to fill up the tea and water glasses and kept us in cold beers. Again, I wish Yelp had half points because this should be a 4.5 star review. I took off a star because the order station took a long time as one of the cashiers kept wandering off as the line got longer and longer so only one cashier would be taking all of the orders. Exactly what you'd suspect in the touristy area of Daytona. And actually, exactly what you WANT in that area. It's on the river side, but a nice view. Decent Bar, and they were offering a kind of "Rum punch" thing that was sweet and tasty. Fried Seafood is the order of the day, natch. I had a combo plate (Fish/Shrimps/Scallops/ClamStrips). It was a well-prepared meal-nothing new under the Florida sun, but it did hit the spot. Son-in-law had a broiled fish he reported was "dry". The feed was exactly as I thought it would be, and that was ok. When I go to Florida, this is the kind of stuff I want to eat. You can tell if the oil is old, and if they were just phoning it in for the turistas. Neither of those things were in view here. We went on a Sunday for an early dinner around 3pm. We stood in line to give our order at the counter then went to find a table. It wasn't too busy and we got one outside on the patio. The waitstaff brought our drinks and food when it was ready. By the time we left they were taking names on a wait-list and the people would be seated and ordered with a waitress at the table. The process seemed to work well. Here is what we ordered: I got the Special Wrap with fries and pups. The wrap was shrimp and crab cake with a parmesan mayo and lettuce. The shrimp were surprisingly very large. It was a great sandwich,,,! My husband got the platter. It comes fried only and has shrimp, fish, clams, scallops, and a deviled crab. He ordered it with slaw and pups. It was a lot of food! My daughter got the shrimp and fish platter. Again this comes fried only with fries and pups. Again a good portion and nice size butterflied shrimp. The hush puppies were very good. Not dry. Oh and I almost forgot!! We started with an order of conch fritters. They were some of the best. Been coming to Our Deck Down Under for about 5 years. At one point the food used to be good. Went there yesterday. It was awful! FYI: You have to order your food when you get to the front counter. Not at the table. There is usually a long line during regular mealtimes. Ordered a cheeseburger (don't know how to screw up a basic cheeseburger but they managed to do so with flying colors! It was an overdone hockey Puck with fake cheese and no flavor. No lettuce and tomato as promised on menu. Stale roll!) Also had a Special Wrap (comes with crabcake and shrimp). Didn't want the crabcake. Just shrimp. The wrap had 4 small shrimp for $15. Pitiful and tasteless! The sandwiches and burgers don't come with any sides. We had coleslaw and hush puppies. Coleslaw had no taste. Got the free seasoned shrimp because we paid cash. The shrimp were way overcooked, bland and extremely hard to peel. Complete with veins. Total cost for this...$55 including tip (yes, we tipped even though we don't order at the table). The lousy food wasn't the server's and bus staff's fault. We complained to the staff member who came to the table after the meal. (respectfully, not nasty). She didn't care and got snippy with us. This will be the last time we go to this place. Find another place to eat. Try Black Beards restaurant in New Smyrna Beach. Always decent food. They have been there for a long time. You get more for your money. They have a good early bird menu. I think it's from 4pm to 6pm. If you want a water view, order a Publix sub and take it to the beach. read more

Our Deck Down Under (ODDU) remains the "go to" seafood restaurant in Port Orange. Our favorites include the lightly breaded, cooked to perfection fried fish sandwich, blackened Mahi-Mahi sandwich and delicious golden brown hush puppies. There is never an issue except for the many patrons waiting their turn to place an order or finding an outside table on the deck on the water. Before moving to Florida many years ago we discovered this gem hidden under the Dunlawton Avenue (Halifax River) bridge on beach side.
