This wasn't the place I thought it was, but it was fine. Friendly bar with good service. A little warm with no ac and not much of a breeze. We ordered the fish dinner and salad with fish. The choice was grilled mahi or fried flounder. We had the mahi blackened. It was just right for me, a little too spicy for the wife. Started with a half dozen steamed clams, received 7. They were delicious and came with melted butter crackers and horseradish. The beer was chilled to perfection. Small rap selection but Jai Alai was the current rotating tap. Good atmosphere and decent food. Mostly locals - I think the bartender knew everyone else by name. Worth a visit especially between lunch and dinner. read more

The blackened mahi sandwich never disappoints, and the portions are always generous enough that I end up taking some home. It's a great spot to relax, enjoy the view, and watch the boats come and go. read more

The seafood was all perfectly prepared. The Peel and Eat Shrimp were also perfect. The Dolphin and assortment of "birds" were our dining live entertainment The service was poor. Only 1 staff member came by once to see how we were doing. We had to find our own to go boxes an ask for lids for our drinks. We were dressed casually as were all of the other guests. read more

Great place for seafood. While visiting family, it was suggested to go to Down Under for seafood. Hearing that it was waterfront dinging we were all in. We went on a Sunday for an early dinner around 3pm. We stood in line to give our order at the counter then went to find a table. It wasn't too busy and we got one outside on the patio. The waitstaff brought our drinks and food when it was ready. By the time we left they were taking names on a wait-list and the people would be seated and ordered with a waitress at the table. The process seemed to work well. Here is what we ordered: I got the Special Wrap with fries and pups. The wrap was shrimp and crab cake with a parmesan mayo and lettuce. The shrimp were surprisingly very large. It was a great sandwich,,,! My husband got the platter. It comes fried only and has shrimp, fish, clams, scallops, and a deviled crab. He ordered it with slaw and pups. It was a lot of food! My daughter got the shrimp and fish platter. Again this comes fried only with fries and pups. Again a good portion and nice size butterflied shrimp. The hush puppies were very good. Not dry. Oh and I almost forgot!! We started with an order of conch fritters. They were some of the best. Not overseasoned, moist, with nice chunks of conch. You gotta check this place out! read more

Our Deck Down Under was the perfect spot for us to spend lunch on the 4th of July. We arrived just before opening time and there was already a line of people forming. Here, you order at the counter and your food is brought out to you. Our party of 5 ordered a variety including the special wrap, mahi salad, and tuna sandwich. Everyone loved their meals. The fish was seasoned to perfection. The views were great as well. Highly recommend! read more

Honestly the crab legs here are delicious and fresh. I think if you're looking for a fine dining or typical dining experience this isn't for you. This is a very beachy place .... Plastic utensils .... Plastic cups ... order at a desk and seat yourself ....once you understand this I think it makes sense. Overall it's a great experience If in the area... and let's be honest they have been in business a long time so it's obviously what people want :) read more

Honestly, not good. We arrived, the hostess was very pleasant and we were seated quickly. That's where the good ended. Our server arrived and didn't introduce herself, but immediately asked us if we knew what we wanted, and were interested in a "cash only" deal - if we paid cash for the bill, we got some steamed shrimp for free or something like that. We weren't interested. Reviewed the menu - we had called ahead to ask if they had fried mahi sandwiches available. We were told yes. When we went to order, we were informed that only the flounder could be fried, but mahi could be grilled or blackened, which is unfortunate as that is why we went - but if the mahi was fresh and grilled, why can't it be battered and fried? We all know the answer to that. We ordered conch fritters, and our meals. The "conch" fritters were brought out quickly and were hot. However, not a speck of conch - basically we paid for overpriced hush puppies. Our meals came and the food was just bland. Zero seasoning. The grilled mahi was so watery that it was puddled at the bottom of the basket. No lettuce, no pickle, no tomato. Just fish on a bun. The batter for the fried fish was bland and soggy. It was all "edible" and not worth sending back, but not great for the price we paid. The server stopped by and asked us how everything was, and we told her that it wasn't good - her reply was "oh, yeah..well...sorry" and then walked away. She had someone else bring our bill (close to $150 by the way) instead of bringing it herself, and she never said thank you or goodbye or anything. It wasn't worth fighting over, but honestly just gross. You're paying for the view, not the food. Clearly nothing was fresh. read more

We have been here many time over the years and it is a different experience every time we come. This time was a 4 stars. The waitress all work together and our main waitress would visit our table multiple times. The location could not be better. You get the see the sunset and it is an indoor outdoor building but we chose to sit outside. There were some birds but they're just flying around not coming to our table. We got the surf and turf (fried shrimp and ribs) it was very good it's a lot of food. The shrimp have nothing special to them. But the ribs were very good. We also got the crab legs and they were amazing. Those just came as crab legs no sides. We got two strawberry daiquiris while we waited for our table. They also weren't anything special but still good. read more

This business has changed since we were last there, some years ago. Pricey and mediocre food and menu.

It's improved greatly since we first went there several years back. The Food and service were great. Plenty of parking as well.

Cool atmosphere. No table till later in the day. Scallops were good. Shrimp had no taste.

Our Deck Down Under (ODDU) remains the "go to" seafood restaurant in Port Orange. Our favorites include the lightly breaded, cooked to perfection fried fish sandwich, blackened Mahi-Mahi sandwich and delicious golden brown hush puppies. There is never an issue except for the many patrons waiting their turn to place an order or finding an outside table on the deck on the water. Before moving to Florida many years ago we discovered this gem hidden under the Dunlawton Avenue (Halifax River) bridge on beach side. The staff stays faithful to customer service making just another reason to dine here. Thank you ODDU for keeping the promise of extraordinary food and friendly service! read more

Prior to Ian and Nicole, my guy and I were for a few days to experience the Atlantic ocean (we live on the Gulf side). We asked the girl in the office where a good place was to go and she said, hands down Our Deck Down Under. Great advice. The place has been in business in Port Orange for 20 years. It is located under the Dunlawton Bridge and is a comfortable waterfront establishment with panoramic view of the Halufax River intercoastal waterway. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits. Eight nice size shrimp were served over jalapeño bacon cheese grits with two pups (hushpuppies). Absolutely out of this world. My guy ordered the fish sandwich grilled and was lucky to be recommended a type of fish that neither of us ever heard of (disappointed that we cannot remember the name). It was so delicious that we wanted to go back the next day. The menu is diverse with something for everyone; i.e., apps, shellfish, salads, sandwiches, dinners and a vast number of sides. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. By the way, they have a nice happy hour with friendly bartenders. read more

Exactly what you'd suspect in the touristy area of Daytona. And actually, exactly what you WANT in that area. It's on the river side, but a nice view. Decent Bar, and they were offering a kind of "Rum punch" thing that was sweet and tasty. Fried Seafood is the order of the day, natch. I had a combo plate (Fish/Shrimps/Scallops/ClamStrips). It was a well-prepared meal-nothing new under the Florida sun, but it did hit the spot. Son-in-law had a broiled fish he reported was "dry". The feed was exactly as I thought it would be, and that was ok. When I go to Florida, this is the kind of stuff I want to eat. You can tell if the oil is old, and if they were just phoning it in for the turistas. Neither of those things were in view here. Service was friendly, and pro, so I'm throwing a solid 4 for fine Florida Coast Bread and Circuses. read more

The food was really good and this place has great ambiance. It was a great choice for our vacation dinner.

Been coming to Our Deck Down Under for about 5 years. At one point the food used to be good. Went there yesterday. It was awful! FYI: You have to order your food when you get to the front counter. Not at the table. There is usually a long line during regular mealtimes. Ordered a cheeseburger (don't know how to screw up a basic cheeseburger but they managed to do so with flying colors! It was an overdone hockey Puck with fake cheese and no flavor. No lettuce and tomato as promised on menu. Stale roll!) Also had a Special Wrap (comes with crabcake and shrimp). Didn't want the crabcake. Just shrimp. The wrap had 4 small shrimp for $15. Pitiful and tasteless! The sandwiches and burgers don't come with any sides. We had coleslaw and hush puppies. Coleslaw had no taste. Got the free seasoned shrimp because we paid cash. The shrimp were way overcooked, bland and extremely hard to peel. Complete with veins. Total cost for this...$55 including tip (yes, we tipped even though we don't order at the table). The lousy food wasn't the server's and bus staff's fault. We complained to the staff member who came to the table after the meal. (respectfully, not nasty). She didn't care and got snippy with us. This will be the last time we go to this place. Find another place to eat. Try Black Beards restaurant in New Smyrna Beach. Always decent food. They have been there for a long time. You get more for your money. They have a good early bird menu. I think it's from 4pm to 6pm. If you want a water view, order a Publix sub and take it to the beach. read more

My friends and I spent a week in Daytona Beach Shores and they wanted to take me to one of their favorite places. I am so glad they did. Upon arriving at the restaurant, you grab a menu and then when you are ready to order go to a part of the bar where they take your order. You then find a seat and they bring everything to you. While you eat, they are constantly walking around to make sure you have plenty to drink. A bit after 5 or so, they switched to having a hostess seat you. The restaurant is very nice and clean. There are a lot of fun things on the walls to look at and it is situated right under a bridge on the waterway that makes for gorgeous views. I ordered a pound of peel and eat shrimp, fries, hushpuppies and some raw oysters. They were amazing. All was cooked perfectly and had plenty of flavor. Everyone in my group was very happy with their meals. I truly loved my visit and look forward to next year. read more

The service was excellent and the food was good - a bit much for the price. There was no wait at 8PM on a Friday night. We sat outside and enjoyed the view of the inter coastal. I started with the clam chowder and we decided to split the fried seafood platter. The clam chowder was good but very similar to canned chunky clam chowder. The seafood platter was pretty tasty - fried clam strips, three fried scallops, three fried shrimp, a piece of fried flounder, and a deviled crab. It was all fried nicely. The clams strips were nice and big - not a bunch of pieces of fried batter like you get some places. The deviled crab was pretty amazing - I'd consider coming back just to get a nice order of them. Overall it was a nice experience. read more

We ate here last night, 4 adults and 2 babies. Two of us got the 3 piece crab clusters ($37), my son got the Crab Trap for a surprising $17, and my husband got the scallops, grilled, with hush puppies and Cole slaw. We also got a basket of onion rings and as an appetizer, the smoked fish dip. The smoked fish dip was just as good as the reviewers here said is was. It was a bit surprising that it comes with only saltines! But our 7-month-olds liked them. The dip is so good, it didn't matter. Lots of Mahi, nice smokiness, and a really tasty cheesy mayo. The smoke was the star and the saltines didn't take away from that. I still brought some home to try with bread though. The crab came with drawn butter and one lemon wedge. We twice requested and were promptly given generous extra lemons. The crab was really good. Very fresh, thoughtfully chosen clusters, each having a claw. My DIL finished hers, I have a partial cluster left. The crab was silky soft ad had a lot of crab flavor. There was chili sauce, ketchup and Tabasco (ours was green) on the table, as well as paper towels. My son demolished the Crab Trap, as did my husband the scallops, Cole slaw and pups. I got to taste a scallop. Although they were either really big bay scallops or really small sea scallops, they were fresh and perfectly cooked, served in a buttery base that kept them from being overly salty or spicy. They still had a kick though!j. The serving was ~12. If you like onion rings, these are must-have. They are freshly made in-house, with a batter that's just enough. Not frozen from a bag! There is a nice balance of dough and onion, as they are medium thick cut so you don't lose all the onion taste. I did add quite a bit of salt. They appeared to be unsalted and tasted unsalted. What's fried food without salt? Now, on the the venue as there is stuff you need to know. 1 - Google says standard wait times are about an hour. We arrived right after a rainstorm at 5pm on a Saturday and were seated immediately, but there were a lot of people waiting when we came out. 2 - Dinner is table service so all those comments about waiting on line to order lunch do not apply. 3 - They have a lot of beer on tap, including 3 craft ones. 4 - This place is open air. It is not air conditioned. They have fans that look a little on the dirty side. If you have a major aversion to flies or fruit flies, you might not like that. It was also rather warm. The bathrooms are fully air conditioned though, and clean. I didn't take any pictures because the presentation wasn't special and we were playing with the babies. This place is very family friendly and dogs are allowed on the deck. It was fun to hear barks during dinner. We enjoyed it and plan to return. read more

We came here after our local favorite shut down. This was exactly what we had hoped for - seafood next to the water. We had grouper fingers, which were lightly fried. My only complaint was that I wish there was more! The crab cake had lots of crab in it and was seasoned. The blackened shrimp and scallops were delicious. Very well seasoned. Fish was juicy, not overdone. Hushpuppies were perfectly crisp. Grits were flavorful. The key lime pie was outstanding.. again, only wish there was more! It was creamy and thick, not overly sweet. Notes from my boyfriend: "it was seasoned good and the blackened fish wasn't overly peppery" read more

We were visiting from out of the area, and this restaurant was recommended to us by locals. I am glad we listened to their recommendation because Our Deck Down Under was fantastic. I stopped by with my family at 8 PM on a Saturday and prepared for a long wait, but we were seated in thirty minutes on their patio, which was a great spot to view the stars and water. The servers were lovely (think Southern hospitality) and took care of each other's tables. Our order promptly came out hot and fresh, and everything was delicious! I tried their crab cakes with fries and pups, and my family members had the fish sandwich basket and fish and shrimp dinner. Their hush puppies (pups) were some of the best we've ever tasted. Our drinks were constantly refilled, and the servers continuously checked up on us -- fantastic service, delicious food, and location on the water make this an absolute gem. read more

The food is amazing it is also very filling so be prepared to have leftovers. The key lime pie is worth getting so leave room it is absolutely awesome. They don't really have waiters/servers there are people that come around but you seat yourself and there is a stand where you order once you are ready, usually a line forms. The service that you do get is good though they refill drinks and take the trays. The theme is very docky and beachy if you choose to seat outside you are literally on a dock it is an amazing view and place to eat it is not very fancy it's just a casual. All in all it's a great place to eat if you are looking for some good sea food read more

So incredibly saddened by this. We have been coming to ODDU for 15 years, usually a highlight of our visits. We ordered conch fritters, they were almost burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. We had huge sticker shock by ordering two 1/2 and 1/2 plates, didn't know they come with no sides anymore. Just half a pound of crab legs and 1/2 pound of shrimp. We did pay cash and got the extra shrimp, but the crab legs were ok, and the shrimp was so hard to peel i think I left half the meat in the shell basket. We had at least 3 different wait staff, they barely checked on us. We used to get a little basket with a warm towel and hand wipes to clean up our hands after dinner but there was nothing. We asked for a small box to take the rest of our shrimp but after waiting 15 minutes we gave up and left them. They weren't worth taking anyway. This truly bummed me out after loving this place for so many years. Highly unlikely we will ever go back or recommend it again. read more

Stopped in for lunch based on a local's recommendation. I had the broiled mahi mahi sandwich with onion rings and pups. My wife got the fried flounder with fries and pups. She also got the deviled crab. My biggest strike here is they are charging market prices for frozen mahi. When you come to a dockside restaurant, you expect fresh fish. The fried flounder was horrible as well as the deviled crab. The only reason I ate here was based on a local recommendation and the cashier said that the fish is local. I don't recommend this place at all. Overpriced lunch for 2 at $55. read more

I love seafood. If you're like me, definitely stop by here. Ordered 10 raw oysters, which were pretty fresh and meaty but they were still attached to the shell, which made them more difficult and annoying to eat. The spiced shrimp was probably my favorite thing we ordered. Delicious seasoning (lots of old bay) with fresh shrimp - what more could you ask for. The crab legs were also quite good and fresh. Haven't had those in a while and a good reminder at how much work it takes to get the little bit of meat from the crab. Sat outside on the patio next to the water. The perfect view with some tasty seafood - a great spot for a casual lunch. read more

We've come here several times over the last eight years and it has never been the first place we think of when we go out to eat. I will say in the last month we've come here twice and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The service is friendly and quick. We both love the blackened fish sandwich! The hush puppies are excellent! Good fries and rings, and the coleslaw is pretty good and makes you feel slightly better about all the fried things. Not my favorite fish dip in the area, and while the oysters are cold and fresh, the shucker leaves a lot of grit in there, which is a little off-putting. Peel and eat shrimp are super tasty and omg, the hurricanes are wonderful. Love the setting! It's taken some time, but we're fans. read more

Typical Florida seafood place which was OK. They were able to accommodate a large party which was great and the service throughout the evening was pretty good. You can tell they're adept at handling large tables and busy crowds. The food was kinda hit or miss. We shared a few appetizers like the conch fritters, fish dip, and hush puppies, and they were all good. It took me a while to figure out that almost everything was fried, since I got the recommended Platter- fish, shrimp, clams, scallops, and deviled crab. As a long time MD resident, I'm very particular about anything crab and never order crab cakes, unless I know they are legit MD crab cakes, meaning lump crab. The deviled crab here seemed to mix in backfin, imitation crab, and tons of filler; not very edible to me. The fried shrimp, fish, and scallops were great, but the clams were mostly fried breading. The cole slaw wasn't my thing either; not really creamy or flavorful. They were offering a special for cash payments where you get a free 1/2 pound of steamed shrimp. I liked their seasoning, which had a slight kick to it, but that was about it. They didn't seem fresh, as they were hard to peel and NOT deveined. I have a better idea of what to order now, so if I ever return, I'll stay away from some things. read more

It had been too long since we had gotten over to Our deck for lunch. Long drive from our home of about 2 hours. Maybe not so soon to return. We had 5 adults and 2 small children. Nice table on the deck right on the water, That's the best part. Most of the food was pretty good. Service was fine. Unfortunately, one of the meals was less than ok. My wife ordered the shrimp sandwich with fries and hush puppies. She didn't say anything about it until after we had left. Then she said that the shrimp was tough and oily. Did not enjoy at all. This was a favorite of hers, but not at all good this time. While we were waiting for our meal, a server gave a nearby table their order. I heard her say to them to try the shrimp before she left, because they looked overdone. If so, she would replace them. They tasted and wanted a replacement. She got a new order for them. Unfortunately she did not do the same with our order. My wife never complains about food at restaurants. Unfortunately, she didn't tell me that her shrimp was over cooked and hard to eat until after we had finished. She was really disappointed in her meal. read more
