Our favorites include the lightly breaded, cooked to perfection fried fish sandwich, blackened Mahi-Mahi sandwich and delicious golden brown hush puppies. There is never an issue except for the many patrons waiting their turn to place an order or finding an outside table on the deck on the water. Before moving to Florida many years ago we discovered this gem hidden under the Dunlawton Avenue (Halifax River) bridge on beach side. Prior to Ian and Nicole, my guy and I were for a few days to experience the Atlantic ocean (we live on the Gulf side). We asked the girl in the office where a good place was to go and she said, hands down Our Deck Down Under. Great advice. The place has been in business in Port Orange for 20 years. It is located under the Dunlawton Bridge and is a comfortable waterfront establishment with panoramic view of the Halufax River intercoastal waterway. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits. Eight nice size shrimp were served over jalapeño bacon cheese grits with two pups (hushpuppies). Absolutely out of this world. My guy ordered the fish sandwich grilled and was lucky to be recommended a type of fish that neither of us ever heard of (disappointed that we cannot remember the name). It was so delicious that we wanted to go back the next day. The menu is diverse with something for everyone; i.e., apps, shellfish, salads, sandwiches, dinners and a vast number of sides. So incredibly saddened by this. We have been coming to ODDU for 15 years, usually a highlight of our visits. We ordered conch fritters, they were almost burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. We had huge sticker shock by ordering two 1/2 and 1/2 plates, didn't know they come with no sides anymore. Just half a pound of crab legs and 1/2 pound of shrimp. We did pay cash and got the extra shrimp, but the crab legs were ok, and the shrimp was so hard to peel i think I left half the meat in the shell basket. We had at least 3 different wait staff, they barely checked on us. We used to get a little basket with a warm towel and hand wipes to clean up our hands after dinner but there was nothing. We asked for a small box to take the rest of our shrimp but after waiting 15 minutes we gave up and left them. They weren't worth taking anyway. This truly bummed me out after loving this place for so many years. Highly unlikely we will ever go back or recommend it again. read more

Typical Florida seafood place which was OK. They were able to accommodate a large party which was great and the service throughout the evening was pretty good. You can tell they're adept at handling large tables and busy crowds. The food was kinda hit or miss. We shared a few appetizers like the conch fritters, fish dip, and hush puppies, and they were all good. It took me a while to figure out that almost everything was fried, since I got the recommended Platter- fish, shrimp, clams, scallops, and deviled crab. As a long time MD resident, I'm very particular about anything crab and never order crab cakes, unless I know they are legit MD crab cakes, meaning lump crab. The deviled crab here seemed to mix in backfin, imitation crab, and tons of filler; not very edible to me. The fried shrimp, fish, and scallops were great, but the clams were mostly fried breading. The cole slaw wasn't my thing either; not really creamy or flavorful. They were offering a special for cash payments where you get a free 1/2 pound of steamed shrimp. I liked their seasoning, which had a slight kick to it, but that was about it. They didn't seem fresh, as they were hard to peel and NOT deveined. I have a better idea of what to order now, so if I ever return, I'll stay away from some things. read more

My friends and I spent a week in Daytona Beach Shores and they wanted to take me to one of their favorite places. I am so glad they did. Upon arriving at the restaurant, you grab a menu and then when you are ready to order go to a part of the bar where they take your order. You then find a seat and they bring everything to you. While you eat, they are constantly walking around to make sure you have plenty to drink. A bit after 5 or so, they switched to having a hostess seat you. The restaurant is very nice and clean. There are a lot of fun things on the walls to look at and it is situated right under a bridge on the waterway that makes for gorgeous views. I ordered a pound of peel and eat shrimp, fries, hushpuppies and some raw oysters. They were amazing. All was cooked perfectly and had plenty of flavor. It had been too long since we had gotten over to Our deck for lunch. Long drive from our home of about 2 hours. Maybe not so soon to return. We had 5 adults and 2 small children. Nice table on the deck right on the water, That's the best part. Most of the food was pretty good. Service was fine. Unfortunately, one of the meals was less than ok. My wife ordered the shrimp sandwich with fries and hush puppies. She didn't say anything about it until after we had left. Then she said that the shrimp was tough and oily. Did not enjoy at all. This was a favorite of hers, but not at all good this time. While we were waiting for our meal, a server gave a nearby table their order. I heard her say to them to try the shrimp before she left, because they looked overdone. If so, she would replace them. They tasted and wanted a replacement. She got a new order for them. Unfortunately she did not do the same with our order. My wife never complains about food at restaurants. The service was excellent and the food was good - a bit much for the price. There was no wait at 8PM on a Friday night. We sat outside and enjoyed the view of the inter coastal. I started with the clam chowder and we decided to split the fried seafood platter. The clam chowder was good but very similar to canned chunky clam chowder. The seafood platter was pretty tasty - fried clam strips, three fried scallops, three fried shrimp, a piece of fried flounder, and a deviled crab. It was all fried nicely. The clams strips were nice and big - not a bunch of pieces of fried batter like you get some places. The deviled crab was pretty amazing - I'd consider coming back just to get a nice order of them. We've come here several times over the last eight years and it has never been the first place we think of when we go out to eat. I will say in the last month we've come here twice and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The service is friendly and quick. We both love the blackened fish sandwich! The hush puppies are excellent! Good fries and rings, and the coleslaw is pretty good and makes you feel slightly better about all the fried things. Not my favorite fish dip in the area, and while the oysters are cold and fresh, the shucker leaves a lot of grit in there, which is a little off-putting. We ate here last night, 4 adults and 2 babies. Two of us got the 3 piece crab clusters ($37), my son got the Crab Trap for a surprising $17, and my husband got the scallops, grilled, with hush puppies and Cole slaw. We also got a basket of onion rings and as an appetizer, the smoked fish dip. The smoked fish dip was just as good as the reviewers here said is was. It was a bit surprising that it comes with only saltines! But our 7-month-olds liked them. The dip is so good, it didn't matter. Lots of Mahi, nice smokiness, and a really tasty cheesy mayo. The smoke was the star and the saltines didn't take away from that. I still brought some home to try with bread though. The crab came with drawn butter and one lemon wedge. We twice requested and were promptly given generous extra lemons. The crab was really good. Very fresh, thoughtfully chosen clusters, each having a claw. My DIL finished hers, I have a partial cluster left. The crab was silky soft ad had a lot of crab flavor. There was chili sauce, ketchup and Tabasco (ours was green) on the table, as well as paper towels. My son demolished the Crab Trap, as did my husband the scallops, Cole slaw and pups. I got to taste a scallop. Although they were either really big bay scallops or really small sea scallops, they were fresh and perfectly cooked, served in a buttery base that kept them from being overly salty or spicy. They still had a kick though!j. The serving was ~12. If you like onion rings, these are must-have. They are freshly made in-house, with a batter that's just enough. Not frozen from a bag! There is a nice balance of dough and onion, as they are medium thick cut so you don't lose all the onion taste. I did add quite a bit of salt. They appeared to be unsalted and tasted unsalted. What's fried food without salt? Now, on the the venue as there is stuff you need to know. 1 - Google says standard wait times are about an hour. We arrived right after a rainstorm at 5pm on a Saturday and were seated immediately, but there were a lot of people waiting when we came out. 2 - Dinner is table service so all those comments about waiting on line to order lunch do not apply. 3 - They have a lot of beer on tap, including 3 craft ones. 4 - This place is open air. It is not air conditioned. They have fans that look a little on the dirty side. If you have a major aversion to flies or fruit flies, you might not like that. It was also rather warm. The bathrooms are fully air conditioned though, and clean. I didn't take any pictures because the presentation wasn't special and we were playing with the babies. This place is very family friendly and dogs are allowed on the deck. It was fun to hear barks during dinner. We enjoyed it and plan to return. read more

The food is amazing it is also very filling so be prepared to have leftovers. The key lime pie is worth getting so leave room it is absolutely awesome. They don't really have waiters/servers there are people that come around but you seat yourself and there is a stand where you order once you are ready, usually a line forms. The service that you do get is good though they refill drinks and take the trays. The theme is very docky and beachy if you choose to seat outside you are literally on a dock it is an amazing view and place to eat it is not very fancy it's just a casual. We were visiting from out of the area, and this restaurant was recommended to us by locals. I am glad we listened to their recommendation because Our Deck Down Under was fantastic. I stopped by with my family at 8 PM on a Saturday and prepared for a long wait, but we were seated in thirty minutes on their patio, which was a great spot to view the stars and water. The servers were lovely (think Southern hospitality) and took care of each other's tables. Our order promptly came out hot and fresh, and everything was delicious! I tried their crab cakes with fries and pups, and my family members had the fish sandwich basket and fish and shrimp dinner. Their hush puppies (pups) were some of the best we've ever tasted. The food was your typical fried selection and the drinks were just ok. Not worth the price tag that went along with it. She also got the deviled crab. My biggest strike here is they are charging market prices for frozen mahi. When you come to a dockside restaurant, you expect fresh fish. The fried flounder was horrible as well as the deviled crab. The only reason I ate here was based on a local recommendation and the cashier said that the fish is local. My only complaint was that I wish there was more! The crab cake had lots of crab in it and was seasoned. The blackened shrimp and scallops were delicious. Very well seasoned. Was told our wait time was 30 min the whole time there was an open table that fit our party. We stood by the table under the fan because it's the beginning of august it was very hot out and we had a baby with us and they had no air conditioning , after 20 minutes we asked how many more people were ahead of us ( because we were generally curious) and she said 2 groups, but you need to be sitting outside waiting while the whole time in front of her face and she never said anything to us until we said something. Mind you there is multiple multiple tables open. We finally get sat IN THE EMPTY TABLE that we stood by the whole 30 minutes we waited and the hostess with the dark hair pigtails slammed the menus down and didn't say anything. The hostess Carolina was very rude and needs to be trained in customer service. Between her rude mouth and eye rolling she needs to be in the back doing the dishes instead of being the "friendly" face you should be greeted with when walking into a restaurant. Ordered 10 raw oysters, which were pretty fresh and meaty but they were still attached to the shell, which made them more difficult and annoying to eat. The spiced shrimp was probably my favorite thing we ordered. Delicious seasoning (lots of old bay) with fresh shrimp - what more could you ask for. The crab legs were also quite good and fresh. We have been here many time over the years and it is a different experience every time we come. This time was a 4 stars. The waitress all work together and our main waitress would visit our table multiple times. The location could not be better. You get the see the sunset and it is an indoor outdoor building but we chose to sit outside. There were some birds but they're just flying around not coming to our table. We got the surf and turf (fried shrimp and ribs) it was very good it's a lot of food. The shrimp have nothing special to them. But the ribs were very good. We also got the crab legs and they were amazing. Those just came as crab legs no sides. We got two strawberry daiquiris while we waited for our table. This is a local place and is always crowded. It is by the water and they have plenty of parking. You have to order up front and they would bring the order to your table. The staff were friendly and polite. Coming to the food, there are more dinner options. We got the Conch fritters (4.5/5) nice and crispy accompanied by a spicy sauce.
