If you've never been in a Bass Pro Shop, it's all hunting and fishing gear. They sell guns, fishing poles, men's and women's clothing, and everything else you would need in terms of outdoor gear at affordable prices. The store is decorated with a bunch of taxidermies throughout. A lot of busts on the wall, near the entrance. Staff greet you at the entrance. They are available at the various counters throughout the store, and at the registers. There's plenty of free parking.

Whoever was working the guns with the dark hair and the trimmed dark beard working mainly the left side was a jerk. He didn't seem like he wanted to be there nor cared about anything. I asked him about the gen 5 glocks and he cut me off to say all glocks are illegal to sell in CA. Not what I was asking about and also false. I then was trying to inquire about a Ruger mark 4 and he was rude about how they have them but won't sell them but can order them. I still don't understand what he meant other than out of stock maybe? Anyway. Another customer came up behind me and asked this man a question and he scolded the customer and said he was with me, he was not and dragged me into it for some reason. He eventually got rid of the prospect and I proceeded to tell him I didn't want or need his help and to help the man he ignored. Instead he called up the next person in queue. Ironically enough, an employee was going off on a phone or radio about giving the best customer satisfaction possible lol. I almost said something to him but he was so hyped and happy, unlike mr grumps at the gun counter. Aside from that and what drove me away from purchasing a new firearm that day, the guys working Ammo and the fishing department were amazing. They really showed their knowledge and were a pleasure to work with. I will be back because of them, but maybe sticking to rifle supply for gun purchases.

I demo'd a firewire board last weekend at salt creek, and the van left with my drivers license before I could return the board. I had no way to contact them or anything, but I remembered that the Ripcurl store sometimes has that van there but I don't think they they had anything to do with the current demo event I was partaking in... Anyway so I called around asking what to do, and finally reached Matt, who went above and beyond by taking my number down, getting in contact with the guy driving the Firewire Demo van, and having him drop off my Drivers License at the Ripcurl store, and said I could come in anytime to return the board and take my DL. He literally saved me a massive headache and 3 hours of driving down to the Firewire store in San Diego (far from my home) to get my DL back from them had Matt not been the middle man and handled the issue swiftly. He has always been super nice and helpful when I'm in the store (just like all the employees) but he really went above and beyond this time and I'm extremely grateful!

It has been a while since I have walked into a store front and be met with genuine care for the customers needs, no pressure to buy something or up sold, and just be friendly by conversing with one another. It is a place that I can see why so many enjoy going to because SoCal Surf Shop gives you a vibe of all is welcome regardless of your activity preference or skill level. I live in San Diego and have always wanted to take up snorkeling but had frustrating experiences…read morewith cheap/rented masks in the past so I did some research to find something better. I found a mask/snorkel set that I thought I wanted online and Lost Winds was the only nearby place that had it available for pickup so I decided to make the hour long drive. When I got there, I received the most amazing customer service from Eric who I later realized was the owner. He had me make sure the mask fit but let me know he would've suggested another one for me based on my needs. He took the time to let me try something else and explained in detail why he made the suggestions he did. He was happy to refund my original online order and exchange it for his suggestions (not an upsell, they were roughly the same price). He also offered a mask treatment for $10 and I wound up picking up a case and anti-fog spray as well. He did suggest fins but wasn't pushy at all when I said I'd save those for another day. I was so impressed with the level of knowledge, attentiveness, and customer service at Lost Winds. Eric thanked me repeatedly for the support and even suggested a nearby beach where I could try out my new gear. I went directly there for an awesome snorkeling experience with zero fogging, amazing clarity, and easy breathing. I ended up with the Cressi ZS1 Mask and a Riffe Stable Snorkel. Maybe I'll get into some real diving next and if I do I'll be back for more gear. If you want to be sure you're getting the best customer experience and expertise, I'd say this place was more than worth the drive for me.
