This is a smaller Cabela's location and given that it's a great location still…read more However. Whoever was working the guns with the dark hair and the trimmed dark beard working mainly the left side was a jerk. He didn't seem like he wanted to be there nor cared about anything. I asked him about the gen 5 glocks and he cut me off to say all glocks are illegal to sell in CA. Not what I was asking about and also false. I then was trying to inquire about a Ruger mark 4 and he was rude about how they have them but won't sell them but can order them. I still don't understand what he meant other than out of stock maybe? Anyway. Another customer came up behind me and asked this man a question and he scolded the customer and said he was with me, he was not and dragged me into it for some reason. He eventually got rid of the prospect and I proceeded to tell him I didn't want or need his help and to help the man he ignored. Instead he called up the next person in queue. Ironically enough, an employee was going off on a phone or radio about giving the best customer satisfaction possible lol. I almost said something to him but he was so hyped and happy, unlike mr grumps at the gun counter. Aside from that and what drove me away from purchasing a new firearm that day, the guys working Ammo and the fishing department were amazing. They really showed their knowledge and were a pleasure to work with. I will be back because of them, but maybe sticking to rifle supply for gun purchases.

Time at register is soooo slowww I think due to number of checkout staff, which is odd considering…read morethe store seems to have a lot of people there. Also had an employee in fishing department be real weird/off putting. A line was strung across an aisle by a kid and he seemed unaware of that when charging through and then stunned we were trying to help him. Vibe is not as warm/positive as other Bass Pro locations.

Such a great experience at Sports Basement Fountain Valley. What really sets this location apart is…read morethe staff. Rich in Rentals was wonderful, approachable, sharp, patient, and genuinely interested in helping me get the right gear. He answered all my questions thoughtfully and made the rental process feel effortless. Ike was a wealth of backpacking knowledge but completely easygoing and never pushy, the kind of person you could happily pick the brain of all day. Niko was upbeat, friendly, and impressively efficient with my purchases, while Annabelle kept everything running smoothly with warmth and ease. It's rare to find a store where the entire team leaves such a positive impression. I came in for gear and left knowing I'd found my new go-to for camping, backpacking, sports, and outdoor adventures. Definitely coming back!

And usually to me and my puppy every time we come to the store, AND the parking lot is huge! Never have an issue. I appreciate how large this space is and everything is neatly organized and you know where to find all the items for various activities, sports and weather! Tons of brands and selections. I especially appreciate the sports basementeees discounts especially on yoga clothes or other athleisure wear. I also really like that if for some reason something isn't working out with the item I purchase, I know I can bring it back in (within reason and appropriate timeframe!). The value of items here are top notch and I'm always happy to support this retailer. So glad to have one in Orange County! Definitely a great place to look for high quality, durable and affordable clothing and accessories - perfect for any adventure!

Location is very easy to find, you cant miss this store. Plenty of parking out front and I LOVE…read morethis store! I always walk away with purchasing something even though i dont need anything. They have everything you need for the outdoors and for any military/tactical gear. They also have MREs to purchase. They are super friendly and i believe they have decent prices on their merchandise. I came in looking for "camping" chairs and hoping I can test them out. I found what I was looking for and a small portable lantern/flashlight. My husband went there for some shorts and pants. I always recommend this store to others who are looking for outdoor gear.

George was so enthusiastic that we were buying knives and helped us select one that was right for us and we needed his help because we've never bought a pocket knife before. We were buying knives because we took a 4 hour survival skills class in Pasadena the weekend before and were told everyone needs to have a good knife on them. One of my superintendents at work told me to get a knife from military surplus with a compass on the top and that comes with a stone for sharpening the knife. Unfortunately they didn't carry the compass knife but I was able to get a good one for under $30. I have to mention that we learned more from George in 20 minutes than we did in 4 hours at the survival skills class. He's very knowledgeable about knives, outdoor survival and camping gear. Honestly, we were 3 ladies and it's intimidating just walking into a military surplus store, but George made us feel really comfortable and he was really fun to talk to/learn from about knives and survival skills. He let us know we have to get really comfortable with using our knife like it's an extra limb that way we don't freeze up in case of emergency. We told him he needs to teach a class on this and have his own line of knives. I ended up getting a Marine brand knife, a sharpening stone and a whistle with a compass and a flint on it and it was worth it.
