There's always really great music playing, and there's climbs for absolute beginners and very experienced climbers. I will say they rate their climbs lower than other gyms, resulting in harder climbs with lower numbers. Super great place just to pop in, grab some rental shoes, and try to do a few climbs. I have been double charged on my account for 2 occasions. I have had countless conversations with the staff, they continue to reassure me a remedy but the chain is so big they don't even know the owner. And it's clear the owner does not care or doesn't check messages. read more

The inability to cancel their membership is predatory. I do advise being extremely cautious when signing up. They'll reference the contract incessantly, despite 6 written requests to cancel the membership starting months ago. Had to freeze the membership, as they do not respect cancellations. Once their freeze drops they charge, despite requests to cancel the membership. Documentation is available of all claims. They will be posted to a public forum shortly. This screenshot is the latest from today, 8/13/25. I haven't used their gym since January/Feb and have been attempting to cancel since then. I am more than happy to take this as far as it takes to achieve a fair resolution. If somebody is not using a service, they should not have to pay for it, and they should be allowed to cancel at any time. They're insisting I have a balance for the month the membership unfroze (wasn't told it unfroze) and they want the money for that month. It's absurd. My favorite gym every staff got amazing music taste and are super chill although it's harder then other hanger 18s it's still my fav and the climbs are awesome, never too packed. Kilter boards at 60' which is really hard for beginners-intermediate go to mission hanger 18 if you wanna use a kilter board. They got shoes to rent. Gyms only bouldering. read more

Amazing variety of different types of walls kind of small but still a lot of types of walls of walls crammed into each other which sounds bad but you climb based on the color of the grips on the walls. Very fun place great pricing read more

Grabbed a Groupon and decided to try something new today with a friend. Location was definitely easy to find with ample parking for the facility. Staff was friendly and helpful and provided a half hour training session to get us up on the walls and feeling like we had some idea as to what we were doing. Shoes were clean and the chalk was very reasonably priced. Instruction was thorough and we were able to do a few of the V1 climbs and feel like champions. I'm thinking we'll both be feeling it in our arms and backs tomorrow. Grateful to all the young climbers that were cheering us on. read more

No one had started a review or made a yelp page for this place so I got permission and decided to be the first person to start it. This is the newest location and the 8th one of all the chain Hangar 18 in Southern California. This gym is smaller than most. It is only bouldering. The sets are great though and has plenty of different grading and styles for beginner, intermediate and advanced climbers. Upstairs they have a really spacious yoga room for members. It's super nice and the nicest one of I've seen so far in all the Hangars. The staff I talked to is super friendly, I like her a lot. She asked me immediately how I was doing when I got here. It's a great place to climb and I recommend those that have Hangar 18 memberships to come and try it out! Plan a day with other friends, go to the beach and grab food out here too :) read more

Decided to try something new. Bought living social deal. Threw hubby in car and headed here for his bday. Came in on a Monday, one other guy in the gym, it was perfect for first timers as ourselves. We received the BEST customer service from the girl at the desk on 3/28/16. We're noobs and she took the time to teach us how to climb and come back down. We had so much fun and her instruction, patience, motivation and friendliness made our experience. There are tons on walls and puzzles ranging from easy to hard. They will rent shoes to you. Be sure to wear comfy gym type clothes. Thanks so much! We will return as much as we can (maybe even a membership as we live in Oceanside) we may be boulderers now lol read more

Totally disappointed with this company. My son is a 17-year-old USA Climber from Oregon and when on vacation is welcomed at many gyms for a modest 1-time price. Hanger 18 offered a 2-1 so my daughter was to climb with my son. The gym forced them to watch a 15-minute safety video and then charged us for the privilege. The price quickly became much more than advertised. We asked to speak to the manager but was told he was unavailable because he was working on new routes. Poor service in addition to bait and switch. The gym did not look all that great either. We walked out to climb another day but not with Hanger 18 in San Clemente. read more

Please do not get the two intro to rock climbing lessons on Groupon. I went in today and was very disappointed. The entire lesson lasted a total of 5min. The Groupon says its for a 60min belaying lesson and I clearly showed the Indian guy my Groupon. Sorry to call out the guys nationality, I didn't get his name. This is how my "lesson went:" -he explained the rules, such as don't climb under other people and land on ur feet (this is crap a Dumb*** would obliviously already know) - he had me go up the wall once, then had me go up on another route 1 more time. That was the end of lesson. In all, it only lasted about 5min!!! This "lesson" started after about 25min of waiting. I love this climbing gym overall. The only problem I had with them was I signed up for the one month pass (which was $5) on the 29th of June and the staff member that signed me up told me that I will start getting charged in August and if I want to cancel my membership after the first month I have to do it before July 29th (so I wont get charged). I was charged with a $15.10 fee few days after on July 1st (I know.. $15.10 is not much at all but its about the principle). When I contacted the manager he stated that they debit the membership fees on the first of every month and he stated that he will not be able to refund my money!!! Well why do you advertise that the first month is $5??? without letting people know only if they sign up at the beginning of the month they get the free month? Besides that I enjoyed going to that gym the few times that I did. read more

I love this climbing gym so much. First, it's a very relaxed atmosphere and is not overcrowded, so you don't have to wait forever for a route, and self-conscious people like me don't have to worry about a dozen people staring at them. Secondly, the crowd and regulars are very cool and helpful. Everyone has a great attitude and will cheer you on, but never give you unsolicited advice unless you ask for it. Thirdly, I LOVE the setting style. The routes focus on footwork and technique, so short and tall climbers have a similar challenge and ability (the grades are on the tougher side, but pretty accurate). Plus, the routes are incredibly creative, so you get to explore different body movements, and at least 1 new wall is set each week. Lastly, they have a very cool near-horizontal roof feature that is so fun to train both technique and endurance on. I'm so lucky this gym is in the town in which I live. Climb on! read more

Nice gym for bouldering. Went on a Sunday morning and there was just too many kids running around and chasing each other, wish they would have been controlled. Also guy at front desk wasn't very friendly and acted like he didn't want his job. Besides the kids acting like it was Chuck E. Cheese in there its a great gym to climb just some loose holds making it a little scary when your at the top and you hear one creak. Would give it 3 stars but I'll assume it was just an off day and give it 4 stars. read more

Nice clean bouldering gym with plenty of challenging routes for all levels. Not as large as some of the other bouldering gyms out there (e.g. the factory, LAB), but still a fun spot to get your send on. There are caves, slabs, vert walls, dihedrals, and a tall top out wall for those spicy high ball finishes. I'll definitely stop by whenever I'm in the San Clemente area. read more

Surprised to see few reviews for this indoor climbing gym. Joined about 5 months ago and after my initial trial membership, was hooked. The crew that works here are absolutely the best. Everyone is super friendly and advanced climbers (most) are willing to help us newbies with routes and technique. About two weeks ago I sent my first V5 (long and hard one in the cave) and then a week later, sent my first V6. Lots of support from other climbers. They also have a room upstairs for Yoga and Palates, but the down side is each one is only one day a week and they are usually at 7pm. Would be great if the classes were provided each day. Would pay a little more to see a Yoga class provided every day. Once a week isn't much incentive to attend. read more

It's a very fun place. There are a lot of choices to climb. If you slip and fall you will land on a squishy material and it doesn't really hurt. It is clean inside and looks new. For fun after school it's really cool! read more
