We spent about 15 minutes in the store not one employee said anything to us offered to help or to even acknowledge us being here. That to me is pathetic i used to work in this store back in 2006 and we always had to take care of customers especially by the shoes department back then this store was run by a bunch of teenagers and even then they were more helpful than the people here today. One thing i did think was cool is that they've renovated the store put new floors in moved the gun dept. to the front of the store and just cleaned it up a bit. Fun fact about the store and im sure its still here is that in their back room they had this huge cage above the rows of shoes that was pretty much a huge lock box of random lost shoes sooo many in fact that you could spend days in there looking for the other half of your missing shoe! Overall Big 5 will always be "The Thrift Store Of Sporting Goods" As this is what we used to call it when i was here. read more

Came in and bought something that was marked down but the cashier did not inform me that I had to put in my email just that I had a sign up with one which I already had done so in the past. So I can get the price mark down what kind of garbage is that, she should have asked me or told me that I was buying it for retail not reduce price. I knew something was off when the price came out to a certain amount but I thought well who knows it could be Gavin F Newson sale tax. Even though this store has a large selection, many time the store does not have my size. Steve, the Store Manager, is very accommodating and has requested what I want from other stores. My place of employment gives me discounts to Big 5 so I bought $60 worth of items, including a pair of shoes that was labeled $15, expecting to get a discount with my work coupon. Since it was just past the new years, I was told my coupon expired a few days ago. I was going to cancel the transaction, get a 2019 coupon from work and come back but the female employee with brown hair told me just to bring the coupon in with the receipt and they will give me the discount then, no problem. When I returned with the coupon the girl at the register looked confused and asked me who told me that information. I pointed to the girl who told me a few days ago and the girl shrugged her shoulders in denial. A manager was called who eventually gave me less of a refund than I expected so I looked at my original receipt which showed that the I was actually charged $35 for the shoes labeled $15. I showed them the table I got the shoes from, I told them how the shoes were bound together, what the tag looked like and how the label was fastened to both shoes. Of course no one believed me and I was told to bring the shoes, the box (which never existed) and the price tag in. Of course I don't have the price tag. In their defense I'm certain they deal with scammers all day long and to them I'm just another scammer, even though I'm not. I take responsibility for the fact that I was stupid and didn't look at the receipt before I left the store. I never look at the receipt and I believe most people don't. So why am I complaining? First off I tried to cancel the original transaction and would have had I known it was going to be a problem to get my money back when I bring the coupon back in. Also, the employee denied any knowledge of the matter and it had to go to the manager. I know, they're kids. I'm an adult. etc. Also, I'm pissed off at the fact that the shoes were priced at $15 and there is no way to prove that. I only bought them because they were $15. I would have never got them if they were $35. They were "one time use" shoes in my opinion and not anything I would wear regularly. I feel that the system should have shown the price on the tag. I'm mad at myself for not checking the receipt because had it been an error in pricing they would have to honor the price tag. read more

Horrible Experience. I bought a pair of shoes and when I got them home after walking around in them they began to hurt my feet. They refused to take them back and the manager said "We are not a shoe exchange company" He told me I should have worn them around the house to make sure. Which I told him I did. He said that "We have return policies on card all over the store", however he couldn't even find one. I told him I had ZERO help in that department and I was on my own. Not one sales person told me anything about their return policy. I will NEVER buy ANYTHING from this store or Big Five in general. This is the WORSE service I have ever had. I went to Big Bear for a nice trip with my friends and when we wanted to fish we came to realize this was the only place to rent poles for quite a few miles. Only a couple of us new what we were doing so it was very helpful when Chris helped us out and gave us tips on where and with what to fish with. We constantly returned to the shop whether it was for more supplies or just to say hi to Chris. Despite not catching anything, we had a great time on the lake and even made a new friend. Overall the store had everything we needed and was very helpful with helping some newcomers have the best chance at success on the water. read more

Went there today, the selection is terrible, friendly staff but not very knowledgeable. I wasn't looking or asking hard ?'s, just wanted a bacci (sp) ball set and baseball display case. The biggest problem is disorganization. Have some respect for your store and clean it up. Arrange items on the shelf so that at least you can see them, especially for customers. Worst customer service ever. After having to stand in line at the cashier to get help with a weight bench, I was told that I could not look at the user's manual for the product before I bought it. Appparently, the manager told the customer service guy that, "That's just the way it is. Sorry." Even if you can tolerate the co-workers flirting and standing around chewing gum giving you, "Do I have to help you" looks, the selection of everything is horrible and the choice of products is poor and outdated. This place has the worst customer service ever. I went in around 7 oclock to look at a knife that was on sale. I walk up to the counter and look around for a couple minuets, there was no employees I'm sight. After a few.more minuets 2 employees walk up talking to each other and start to go behind the counter. Finally someone is here to help me out......NOT. the 2 employees didn't even acknowledg I was there and one walked away in the opposite direction and the 2, which turned out to be the manager got called to the register and walked past me a second time without saying a word. I was tired of waiting so I went to look at some shoes for a few minuets in hope that when i went back to the knife counter that someone would be there. I went back after about 5 minutes and of course there were still no employees around. I stood there waiting for a few more minuets and finally gave up and walked out. Basically the best place anywhere to get fun toys. I've bought a crossbow, Mossberg 12 ga shotgun, GSG .22 cal rifle, sleeping bags, knives, and about a million other things there over the last year i definitely don't need but think are cool. prices are always good or as good as Amazon or ebay! Best part is that the employees and managers have A LOT of knowledge about the products they sell, and sometimes have steered me towards a cheaper product because it may suit my needs better, I'd recommend this Big 5 to anyone!!! Very good local sporting good store. They did a nice job with the store remodel about a year ago. The prices on gear are generally low. Prices on team licensed gear are high but that is probably a result of high license fees. $25-30 for a basic kids Angel's or Rams t-shirt, really? They do not carry much of the higher end sporting/lifestyle apparel that you can find at Dicks (and sports authority & sports chalet...at least until they close their stores down as recently announced). read more

I needed shoes for my kids for their sports and they two men didn't want to look in the back for the shoes in their sizes. We asked for help with purchasing the last umbrella (which was the display) the worker said for us to find someone else to help us because he had to go to lunch. We then asked a girl for help and she said she had to ask if we could purchase the display, 10 minutes later said we could purchase the item but she was going to send someone else to help us.
