The food was awesome! It's not often I bite into something and make an audible "mmmmm!" sound. I ordered the French Tacos. Beef and Mexican sausage with some type of creme sauce, caramelized onions, and cabbage. A side of rice and beans and somenslaw. Delicious! Service was okay. Not amazing, but not bad. This place has great service and some of the best nachos and tacos I've ever heard! Their cuisine is classic Mexican favorites categorized by appetizers, fajitas, soups and salads, quesadillas, tacos, enchiladas and plenty of sides to choose from. For the appetizer I immediately went for the Border Nachos which were warm, delicious and loaded with the best toppings (beans, mixed cheeses, lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, and choice of meat). There were five people in our party and we all comfortably shared. Next for the entree I got the birria and Marco Polo tacos (bacon wrapped shrimp, melted Jack cheese, caramelized onions, cabbage, and chipotle crema). Both were so flavorful and filling. We were visiting from out of town and ended up here for dinner one night. The experience started off pleasantly, greeted by a lovely hostess. She seated us right away. The complimentary chip and salsa came right away. The salsa was definitely mild. If you like spicy, ask for the hot sauce and mix it in with the salsa- perfect heat! We started with guacamole which were delicious. Unfortunately, my party do not like heat so we got it mild. We ordered all different entrees and everyone was pleasantly surprised how good everything was. I ordered the vegetable fajitas and it is one of the best vegetable fajitas hands down. Wholly unremarkable. A fast food restaurant disguised as a sit down nicer place for dinner. Everything tasted like it came from a can. I had the chicken chimichanga: bland, no taste at all. Rice? Bland like came from cheap mix (minute rice Mexican style from the store has more flavor). Even the guacamole tasted like it was from a can and they just doctored it up. Did it come from a can? I don't know. But the food had that bland can-like lack of taste to it. Sooo if it was all prepared fresh then they need to have a talk with the chef. The place is fine if you want to hang with your friends, have a few drinks, and gnosh on food-like substances while you catch up with your college buddies. But otherwise save your money. read more

First time customer ordering take out. Ordering online relatively easy and delivery was on time. Super start. We immediately noticed an item was missing and checked against emailed receipt. Receipt on bag did not list item so we figured it was not available and they neglected to notify us. We were hungry and dug in to try combo meal, Birra quesadilla, poblano corn, fajita burrito. The taquitos, an appetizer, looked stunning, dressed with fresh avocado. The combo dish (taco, quesadilla, enchilada) was thrown together in one lump. Hmm. Guac came only with 1 entree and was turning brown. Birra quesadilla was different, tasted like a pot roast quesadilla, but $18 and no rice, beans or veggies-not worth it. Food was good-the best taste and presentation going to the taquitos. This appetizer was the best tasting, most aestically appealling and so filling at 1/2 the price of the dinners we ordered. Since COVID this place has gone downhill. More recently (spring 2025) things are worse. They give much smaller portions (since COVID) and higher prices. Half a cup of rice (4 ounces) and half a cup of cole slaw is your side now. A few dishes they removed off the menu around COViD came back but are now tasteless and very little meat/fish are given. The dishes used to be a fair amount of vegetables (pepper) but they skimp on the them and give mostly tasteless onions. They also have a high turnover of workers. Every return visit to give them another chance is more disappointing. read more

I'm sad about Rio Bravo. It used to be a great place for the whole family. But over the past couple of years the quality of the food has really dropped off, almost in inverse proportion to the rise of its prices. Even the chicken tenders on the kids menu has become barely edible. Last night we waited for close to 40 minutes for our food to arrive, and when it did the rice was cold, the chicken in the fajitas was bone dry, and the vegetables in the fajita were 80% onion and 20% bell pepper and that was it. Just to preface, half my family is from Central America. I know my food. The place is nice enough and clean enough and we were seated fast enough. Drinks came out fast. We were getting take out and sat at the bar. Things started off okay. After that it all went down hill. The salsa tasted more like tomato sauce with onions than salsa. The chips were okay. We ordered two entrees and two appetizers to go. The restaurant was half full and there was more staff sitting and milling about than servicing customers. The bartender disappeared and never came back until I went over to a table full of staff eating chips and salsa and asked if they could check on our order because it had been over an hour. I had not said a word up until that point because my wife and I were talking and I didn't want to ruin the evening. They finally came out with the order and we're all smiles. No apology. No mention of what happened. I told them 1:15 is a long time to wait for dinner let alone a small take out order. "The kitchen is backed up". No...it wasn't. They had more staff than patrons and our order was basically four tacos and guacamole with chips. How you charge $19 for two tacos I have no idea, but I guess Fairfield just doesn't care. And why does American coleslaw come with my tacos???? They didn't offer to comp us a drink or an app or discount the bill at all. I said, "So full price? No discount for the inconvenience???" I was told that's the price and he turned away. I paid and left. I'll never go back. I'd love to tell you how it tasted but when I got across the street to our hotel all the food was wet and cold. Which means it was sitting in the back in the tins getting cold and saturating the tortillas in condensation. It was a gross wet mess. Our office was looking for a good Mexican restaurant for catering for a office Cinco de Mayo party. I found Rio Bravo's catering menu and was instantly hooked with how straight forward it was and easy to make selections. I called and spoke with Alex- he was WONDERFUL. Beyond patient with my big order, offered great suggestions, and was SO appreciative. Rio Bravo was so easy to work with from start to finish. Nicer than nice! When I went to pick up my catering order it was all ready and perfectly organized. I brought the food back to my office and it was a hit. The food was great, everyone was so impressed. Enjoyed our dinner. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the service staff is good. The are quick to take your order and constantly check in on you to make sure everything is ok. To start off they give you a bowl of chips with plenty of salsa along with a variety of hot sauces. Then they prepare your guacamole table side and are happy to tweek it as you like. We asked for it to be spicy and it did not disappoint. The drinks menu is plentiful, I had the Monitoring and the sangria but plenty of different types of Margaritas and tequilas as well. I recommend the red sangria it is really good. The meals are plentiful and good. We had the carnitas tacos- very good tasting, the chicken fajitas burrito which was really good and the steak fajitas which were ok. The steak fajitas needed a bit more flavor to them, they were a bit bland but after putting some salt and hot sauce on them they were fine. We will definitely go back. read more

They're refreshed menu is wonderful. Still have the Tex-Mex favs, but also more authentic dishes, more mole offerings, etc. Also i general they've laid off the heavy cheese and things taste flavorful, lighter and fresher. Pretty good. Came here for the first time. I LOVE the decor inside. I have spent some time in Miami and though I am not a city girl at heart I loved it there. Rio Bravo brought me back there and it was absolutely awesome. We had Nachos, Tacos and a quesadilla. And it was all very good except we couldn't finish. The portion sizes are huge and even though we brought our appetites there was alot of food left over. Next time I want to try a Chicken Fajita. The music, the decor, the ambiance and the great service all combined for a great dining experience. Kelsey was the one who seated us and she was terrific. But I have to give a shout out to their Mango Margaritas. I am not a big drinker at all but Margaritas are my weakness. I split one with my dining companion and we both agreed it was the best. It certainly rivaled the Margarita we split in Miami. And it was huge. If you come here you need to have a Mango Margarita. They really make em great! A few negatives..though the nachos were good, they were cooked differently then I had thought they would be and I am not sure I'd order them again. It was also extremely tough to get peoples attention to get refills or anything else. Kelsey was great but she just seated us, she was not our server. And the servers were difficult to track down. I also read a couple of reviews suggesting the place could be a little cleaner and I completely agree with that. I think this is a place you come to for the atmosphere more than anything else. It is bright inside, it is colorful, the place has a tropical, vibrant feel that you do not see usually outside Miami, and it is lively and Fun. Let me start by saying that when my husband and I lived in lower Ct. he and I used to go to Rio Bravo very often. We would eat in the regular restaurant and many times go to happy hour as he worked nearby and we would meet there. The food was ALWAYS delicious and the happy hour menu was a joy. I would always order their sangria and the happy hour dishes were generous , so good and filling. I live in Shelton now but I was down county and the traffic was awful coming home so I detoured to Rio Bravo for happy hour. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in what has happened. Is it a fluke? I can tell you good thing I asked for the happy hour menu..at least I saved myself a lot more money. The sangria? Awful.. tasted like bland Rasberry seltzer. I kept stirring it and stirring it but it didn't matter. I didn't want to start by sending it back so I let it go.. the chips? They tasted like fried paper. That's the closest I can come.the salsa ? Spicy runny Tomato WATER!! I am not kidding. I ordered two soft tacos. Typically I put salsa on but the salsa was so awful I could not make them tasty. I got a little side of refried beans. No flavor. It was just a failure from beginning to end. Believe me I was stunned by it all. I gave it one star as the prices were good. But what difference does that make when every single thing was terrible. When we used to go the bar area was always full for happy hour. Not today. And basically no one was in the restaurant.. I was able to order my choice of fillings which pleased me. My husband ordered the tacos which were the crunchy type. We both enjoyed our selections, I shared a few bites and more with my husband as the combo was too much for me to eat. I got some take out from here and I asked for 3 orders of enchiladas to be ready in 10 minutes. It was ready in about 12 so I consider it ON TIME. Great start. Randomly grabbed some Mexican food today and I this review will solely be about the food since I didn't experience the restaurant or staff at all. Except for the quick order of course which was great. The food was tasty and was actually very good........at first. After a little bit I started tasting the aluminum of the little take out container it comes in. I don't know why but that happened but next time I'll just put it onto a plate. The enchiladas were pretty good and it came with rice too which was nice. Everything was seasoned well, fresh, and fairly satisfying. But there was a noticeable amount of the shell from the shrimp inside my enchilada. I know some of yall eat the shell but I'm almost certain it was not supposed to be in there and it was the opposite of satisying. I don't like eating the shell or skin or whatever you wanna call it at all. Oh yeah it also came with beans, the beans were average. It had some bits of bacon in there which actually went nicely with the beans. For $16.95 I think I could have gotten a little more rice and definitely no bits of shrimp shells in there. Also, correct me if the aluminum foil taste is a normal thing. Well they got my order done quickly and I have much respect for that. These guys don't mess around but who knows, MAYBE the fact I needed it done quickly decreased the quality of my order. But for the good parts of the meal, it wasn't so bad after all. I really like the food here and you can't beat the happy hour menu. Tacos for a dollar?! Yes please, also the chicken tortilla soup is the best I've ever had. However, the margaritas are a bit weak, especially during happy hour or bygo day. But my biggest complaint is the lack of management present at the restaurant. I've been there several times and witnessed first hand how it's killing the business. I call for take out weekly and most of the time they don't answer the phone and I have to drive there to order and wait for it. Inconvenient at best. Another instance, is that happy hour, is bar area only, and when I was there a few weeks ago they had a very rowdy group in the dinning room area coming into the bar to get happy hour food and drinks to bring back to there table. They were disturbing everyone in the restaurant especially the people in the bar area. I had to get up and leave because they were swarmed around my table bumping into my seat for over an hour. This never should have happened. If management had been there they could have stepped in and enforced the happy hour policy, diffusing the situation. It's not only bad for the patrons of the restaurant but it screws over the servers and bartenders that spent hours waiting on them and picking up after the mess they left in the dinning room. They work for tips. There were at least 25 people in the group and they had four tables in the dining room and two tables in the bar. Just for the food too, because they were seated in the dining room and kept going back and forth until they entirely took the bar area. I saw other people leave while I was there because of the noise. People don't want to sit in a restaurant and listen to people yelling and be bumped into while they're trying to enjoy their meal. My favorite part of coming to this restaurant is the colorful and fun atmosphere and the signature chips and salsa appetizer. Unfortunately during this COVID19 era, my husband and I ordered takeout instead. We ordered and split the Matador Chicken fajitas with a side of charros beans and rice. Everything tasted very good and our take-out order was 25% off! My one negative critique is that the vegetable were too oily for my taste. Wow, really delicious chili relleno dinner. Used poblano chili's so just a little bite/spice. Charro (whole) pinto beans, Spanish rice and a dab of guacamole. All delicious.
