I visited this restaurant while staying nearby at the Even hotel Norwalk. I ordered there fish tacos to try because I was not familiar with this restaurant or it's food. The staff was friendly and helpful when I asked questions. The restaurant itself was spacious and clean however I did not eat there. When my order was ready I took it to go. When I saw my tacos I knew immediately that most likely I would not return. First, $15 for 2 fish tacos that had more avocado than fish was crazy to me. Especially, when the menu described my order as - taco de mar baja style fish tacos - Citrus Cabbage Relish and Chile Aiali were the listed ingredients but mine were full of Avocado which was not listed as an ingredient. Wow! Amazing meal all-around. The purpose of our dinner was former colleagues getting together to catch up, so there was seven of us. From the start, the plantains and their proprietary salsa, which of course we had to order more of because we gobbled it all down so fast. This jumpstarted our meal. Then of course we needed to add guacamole. Love that there's minced, finally chopped red onion on top of or to the side of the guacamole with a plantain in the center! The presentation was amazing. Next up the empanadas. Delish. Oh, and the sauce that it came with, not sure what it was but it was so tasty! It was the perfect compliment for the variety of empanadas. There was chicken and beef. Not too spicy or overbearing. And the portion of the empanadas was just enough so that you had a tasting. Then we moved on to our main meal. We all had different but I had the Black Angus Skirt Steak... see the photo. Wow.... Again, presentation. Each bite I savored. Cooked to perfection. The plate even came with the yummy empanada sauce! The Salmon is my go-to. Easily one of my favorite dishes in the area. Service is pretty good, desserts are fantastic.

VERY DISAPPOINTING: I ordered the Ensalada de Kale which is labeled vegan on the menu. I also told the waiter I wanted it vegan. It came out with cheese on it. I sent it back and they brought me a salad that was half the size of the original and missing most of the ingredients listed. It is the only vegan item on the menu besides salsa and guacamole. Their menu specifically lists V as vegetarian and VE as vegan and this salad has a VE. If a restaurant goes through the steps to differentiate vegetarian, vegan and gluten free on a menu, you'd like to think they mean it. This is a warning for anyone else who might dine there, so they triple check and ask for it to be vegan (I only double checked). Additionally, nowhere in the listed ingredients for the salad does it mention cheese. The other salads do. read more

Others had the short ribs which are out of this world, marinated for over 24 hours...chicken curry also a hit,, and the duck. Service was great, and very boppy but not too loud ambience. Had a great dinner at Brasitas tonight. The food was delicious -- skirt steak app with chimichurri, mahi special, salmon...it was cooked perfectly and the flavor was great. I asked them to cook my son's salmon "plain" and leave all the other stuff on the side and they prepped it perfectly and my 5-year-old was very happy. Only weird thing was the apps we ordered didn't come out first, they came out with the entrees (we only ordered them because we had little kids who were hungry, so that was a little annoying). I assume this was a mistake though it wasn't acknowledged. Will definitely be back! read more

I went to Brasitas for dinner Sunday evening with a few friends. I have to say that I was very disappointed. I ordered the Paella with a side of Sangria. The sangria was excellent. The paella was not. It was served on a bed of rice, which was dry. I poured some of my wine into it to moisten it, which really didn't help. The seafood varied -- some was overcooked, hard and dry. Some was just OK. Paella is one of my favorite dishes. I have enjoyed it in many varied locations, including Madrid, Toledo (Spain), Fairfield (Connecticut) and New York City. I've always enjoyed it, except for this time. It might possibly be because it was Sunday evening, and the chef was tired after a long week, or because the food was what was left over at the end of the week. My dining partner and I stopped here for dinner on a recommendedation on our way to Stamford for for a show. All I can say is they had me at curry! This Latin place has great atmosphere and excellent staff. When seated you begin with plantain chips and salsa, clearly homemade! The pollo curry caribeno (chicken with curry) is absolutely amazing! I enjoyed Brasitas for lunch during a business meeting, and did quite enjoy it. We started with complimentary plantain chips with a really well-seasoned salsa. The chips were crunchy and almost melted in my mouth, and the salsa had just the right amount of acid, but not from lime, from vinegar, which was unexpected but still worked quite well. For lunch, I enjoyed the arroz con pollo, and what better place to get this than somewhere that makes it authentic. I could tell the ingredients were fresh and it was made with love. When my bf and I moved here last august this was the first place we went to, we got the paella and loved it. We also got the empanadas, which were pretty small and a little dry so I didn't care for them. We finally just went in to eat there and we got that and the whole fried red snapper. It was all incredible, the service was great, and inside is so cute. My only downside and why we don't get it more often is it's pretty expensive, but that's a lot of places going out these days. I've been to both Brasitas locations. The food and drinks are consistent and tasty. In the Norwalk location it's located in a small shopping center and although the sign is large it can possibly but missed. There are some outside tables on the walkway in front of the restaurant if you are in the mood for outside seating. Upon entering the restaurant you'll notice the low lighting, the bar on the right and seating tables on the left. I believe they have a private room towards the back for private events as well. Each time I've gone which I believe was a Sunday each time, there were usually a lot of seating options since it may be a slower day. The food! Delicious! As you sit you are served with plantain chips and salsa. There is a charge for the second serving of chips and salsa. The chips are nice and crispy and the salsa is perfect! Then the food, my go to is the red snapper and I substitute my salad for sweet plantains. I'm never disappointed in that dish! Came to the restaurant on a whim since it was in the plaza next to my hotel and I'm glad I did. It was a busy night for the restaurant, the patio and indoor seating was lively. I was seated immediately and they give plantains and pico de gallo salsa to start. I ordered the coconut curry chicken and enjoyed the liveliness of the environment while waiting for my food. The restaurant ambiance has a lovely Latin aesthtic. The restaurant staff moved together like a symphony; they checked in multiple times throughout my dine time. The coconut curry chicken was beyond delicious! I can't stop thinking about the flavorful chicken, black beans, and jasmine rice. The caramelized plantains are a bonus if you like them! Delicious! A small menu, but filled with big flavor. I had the pollo arepas appetizer as my meal and my husband had the veggie burrito. The presentation was beautiful, and the food was super tasty. They have a super cute setup outside witch makes you forget you are on a main road. The bathroom was clean and again very uniquely decorated. The restaurant couldn't print me a bill on this particular visit and couldn't print a receipt since we were using a card, which made it a bit awkward at the end of our meal. We've been coming to Brasitas for over five years now but I only just realized that I never left a review. The restaurant is in a convenient spot and is never overly crowded or noisy. The space has a Latin flare to it and has an overall relaxing vibe to it. From a drink perspective, we almost always order a Moscow mule, a margarita, or sangria. All three are refreshing and not overpowering with the alcohol. Food wise, we always order the empanadas, arepas (basically a corn cake with chicken between it), chaufa de pato (Chinese-style rice with duck thighs), and pollo caribeño al curry (Caribbean chicken curry). Each dish has incredible flavor, is fresh, and makes us want to come back every time. We usually don't get dessert but I grew up loving Tres Leches cake and Brasitas really knows how to make Tres Leches. The dish wasn't overly sweet or too heavy even after we ate a ton of food beforehand. I can't say enough great things about Brasitas but I think everyone should eat here at least once in their life. read more
