We're going around the greater boston area trying our food from around the world and this place stood out as one of the best options for Peruvian food. We called to make a reservation Friday afternoon for that night and I'm glad that we did the place was full and there was a line to get a table. The waiter helped us pick out two dishes for some Peruvian newbies. We ordered the Clasico ricon Limeño which was a massive plate with calamari and ceviche, lemon and extras. This could have fed 4 but the two of us ate it all! The ceviche was the best part - very flavorful, fresh and citrusy. The tuca tuca was a really interesting dish that I'd love to try again. Hands down, one the best hidden gems in the city for authentic Peruvian. Very homey, bare bones restaurant but hey, you don't come here to be romanced by candlelight. You come here if you want to roll up your sleeves and taste Boston's best ceviche and Tacu-Tacu. Period. We started our Peruvian adventure with the recommended Ceviche Mixtos. Let me tell you, my taste buds are ruined forever as no other ceviche will ever measure up now. The seafood was amazingly fresh and that tangy citrusy bite that all great ceviches have was ever-present. Can I also just comment on how ginormous it was? Wowsers. 5/5 We also ordered the Tamales de Sarsa Criolla. Although I didn't taste any (as it was made with meat), it received a nod of approval but was still overshadowed by the ceviche. Yes, stick with the ceviche, my friend. You will not be sorry. For entrees, I went with the popular Tacu-Tacu de Mariscos, which is best described as a Peruvian style curry with mixed seafood. The creamy bean sauce was slightly on the heavier side but OMG, it was so fragrant and delicious! The aji amarillo pepper is the secret ingredient and it added loads of special flavor punches to the dish. The seafood was cooked perfectly and rice and beans in that long roll mixed and paired so well together. Did I also mention that there was just so dang much of it?? I dare anyone to finish that entire plate in one sitting if they've had any apps. Just NOT doable. 5/5 all the way. Another entree we ordered was the Limo Saltado de Carne and I got to try a little of the sauce with the fried potatoes. Also a great dish if you're in the mood for something that's more of a staple like chicken or steak tips. Very flavorful but not as unique and different as the Tacu-Tacu. Do yourself a favor if you've not been there yet. Bring your entire pack of family and/or friends, order a bunch of random things on top of the ceviche and the Tacu-Tacu dishes and make a feast of it. Clean, refreshing, and zesty fish ceviche. They've got excellent tacu tacu (we got the creamy seafood one...the first listed on the menu). We also got the plain fried yucca, which is also great. It comes with 4 dipping sauces. The green and creamy orange ones were our favorites. They let you sample chicha morada (like a sweet mulled fruity beverage) before buying. I'm not sure what's going on with the cooks in this kitchen but they seem to have an aversion to flavors, spices and peppers. The arroz chaufa was bland compared to what it should be. The chicha seemed watered down (again, no spices). The huancaina sauce did not even taste like huancaina sauce. It tasted like...spicy butter? It thoroughly confused my taste buds. Huancaina is an easy sauce to make, and it's sort of concerning that this Peruvian restaurant cannot make a basic element of Peruvian cuisine. In conclusion, I have one question for this restaurant: where in the world have you placed the spices and peppers? Because they're certainly not in the food. read more

Best Peruvian restaurant! Located in East Boston and very close to Logan Airport. The staff is always checking up on customers and able to answer questions on food. Prices are not bad, I would say the main dishes average around 13-16$ and the seafood plates are a little more. You definitely get what you pay for, the portions are very filling. My favorite plate to get is "Plato Montanero." (16$) It includes grilled steak with rice, beans, fried pork, egg, plantains and salad. I have brought my boyfriend here multiple times and he is always extremely satisfied with the food and portions. The restaurants decor gives you a nice feel of Peru. My wife and I enjoyed dinner here, with a few misgivings. We enjoyed our entrees: the Arroz con Mariscos was just as advertised, a Peruvian-style paella, very tasty. The carapulcra was also very good, although I would have liked more of the taste of chuño (the amazing Incan dried potato that's a special ingredient in this dish). The tamale was good but oversized and pillowy, no different from the Mayan style most Mexican restaurants around here serve, steamed in banana leaf. The tamales I remember eating in Peru were small, firm nuggets steamed in corn husk, similar to the ones from northern Mexico. Not a criticism (I like both styles), just an observation. My only real disappointment was the anticuchos: chunks of marinated beef heart grilled on a skewer. This is a dish with a distinct African heritage, and the ones I had in Peru were smoky and fiery from the lime and aji marinade. The Rincon Limeño version was bland, might as well have been a few strips of roast beef. The staff at Rincon were terrific. This place has a nice neighborhood feel (other than a few outsiders like us) -- there's a Pervuian bakery around the corner that seems to be always mobbed. read more

The beauty of staying in Chelsea/East Boston is the number of different restaurants ranging from varying cuisines. I can't say I'm that familiar with Peruvian cuisine but from my few experiences trying it, I was looking forward to checking this place out. We went on a Saturday evening, when it was somewhat busy, but had no issues waiting to be seated. After being greeted promptly, we ordered drinks and asked for some recommendations. I was quickly sold on the Tacu Tacu de Marsicos ($19) seafood medley in a cream sauce, while my colleague opted for the "Peruvian-style paella" ($18) with some Fried Yucca ($3.50) to share. Our meals were prepared rather quickly and in addition, we were given some limes and a green and red sauce. The yucca didn't have the crispiness that I desired, but tasted fine with the accompanying sauces. Consider yourself warned, but the green sauce is much spicier than the red sauce; you'll definitely feel it in your lips. As for the Tacu Tacu, it was definitely a generous seafood medley of calamari, shrimp, mussels, and baby octopus on a bed of refried beans and rice, topped with a creamy, yellow sauce. The seafood was cooked nicely, including the calamari, which tends to run the risk of being chewy. I don't pretend to be a master of Peruvian cuisine, but think I have some experience after living in Peru for a summer. I've had some fantastic Peruvian food in SF and LA. Always on the lookout for a Peruvian joint, I was excited to come try out Rincon. First impression. Small restaurant, it was around Christmas time, so there was a lot of lights hung up by the window. One in particular, however, was super bright and flashing at a seizure-inducing rate. The husband is a big baby and I let him sit turned away from the lights. It was not pleasant but eventually got used to it a little. Warning: all the dishes are ginormous. Order with caution. They had both Inca Cola and chicha morada, A plus on the non-alcoholic drinks. Ceviche - A heaping plate of mixed shrimp, fish and calamari. It got plenty of citrus and a little spice but to be honest, I wouldn't call it flavorful. There's something missing in the mix that I can't put my hand on. Anticuchos de corazon - This was 1 of my favorite dishes in Peru and I always get it when ordered. The beef heart is tender enough, but again the mix of spices (typically cumin, pepper etc) just wasn't want I was expecting. I think it was even too much and took away from the flavor of the meat underneath. Plato montanero - My husband ginormous dish of steak and chicarrones. He thought the steak was nicely seasoned. The chicarrones was slightly difficult to eat, had to cut off the meat pieces little by little. Tacu tacu de mariscos - This was my first time having this dish. I did enjoy the creamy yellow curry sauce. The seafood mix in the dish was pretty much the same as the ceviche though... The heaving 3lb ball of tacu (mix of rice and beans) can feed a small army. Overall, Rincon did not live up to expectations but it wasn't a bad meal either. The ceviche was fresh and flavorful (we didn't get it spicy), and while definitely very tasty, would say it is not the BEST I've ever had. Still, I would definitely get it again. For mains, I had the Carne Asada (which comes with rice, beans, and salad). This was pretty good. The meat was slightly overcooked but still flavorful.
