I went with my family for my dad's birthday and we had a grand ol' time here.
The venue is extremely modern and intimate, with an upscale feel to it. The staff is extremely friendly and they try to cater to all of your needs. Although we had a designated waitress, the entire staff contributed to our dining experience in one way or another.
The drink selection is large with many selections. Our entire tables needs were taken care of, the only shortcoming I feel is that there is no beer on tap (which is understandable and not even really a complaint).
Onto the food.
It's worth noting ahead of time that the plates are meant for a family-style dining experience. Our table picked a variety dishes and had a taste of each one.
Tempura Cauliflower - 5/5
Our table loved it, we got seconds on this one. The kimchi hot sauce really compliments the fry taste, with good notes of vinegar and saltiness.
Gulf Fish Karaage - 4/5
Not very filling, but worth eating nonetheless. The fish itself has tasted fresh and was very tender, but the batter was a little too soft. With the ranch, though, there was good balance in flavors.
Point Aux Pins Oysters - 2/5
For $16 you get four less than sizeable oysters. The taste was not there, as I could barely tell what was added. It wasn't as succulent as I wanted it to be, and with the lack of size added, I felt slightly disappointed.
Duck Breast - 5/5
This was also ordered for seconds. The duck was so so tender, and complimented by the bok choy very well. Because the dish was so balanced I looked past the slight overcooking of the bok choy. But the duck itself was a real treat.
Hanger Steak - 5/5
Also a great dish, worth getting seconds for as well. I don't know how they made the potato and cheddar pierogi, but I absolutely loved it. It tasted like breakfast for dinner, but totally felt right as the starch complimented the tender and well-seasoned pieces of steak.
One thing I love is that when you order medium-rare steak, it actually is medium-rare.
Pork Tonkatsu - 3/5
The cabbage that was placed on top of the dish were a little too small, and albeit they looked nice, it wasn't really adding to the dish as a whole.
The pork was cooked in a way that it just tasted like chicken to me, and the toast added gave it a less classy persona.
Tourtière - 4/5
It was a small dish, and I was a little confused by the three sides that were added. I think it, like the Pork Tonkatsu, was more focused on the presentation than the actual quality of the dish. It wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, I was just not as amazed by this as the other dishes.
Strawberry Tart - 3/5
Was basically a cheesecake, but did not have as much tart as I would expect.
Sticky Toffee Pudding - 4/5
The blood toffee sauce was amazingly fudgy and the pudding was soft enough to eat easily, and it had the consistency of a warm brownie.
Overall, we had a great time here. The venue was great, service was exemplary, and the food, for the most part, is memorable enough to make me want to come back again. read more
