My fiance loves this place, and it's the only Thai place in Bergen County I'm allowed to go to with her, so they get a loyal customer base out of us. With that said, Ridge Thai is a good place to eat, but there are areas it could make some improvements on. The food is great, but the service and ambiance are a little lacking. The interior is plane jane, and needs to be spruced up a bit. I feel like it was decorated 10 years ago and it's was an after thought even back then. I'd suggest picking a slow week in winter and just taking three or four days to close and remodel the dinning room. Make it feel like you are eating in downtown Ridgewood. The service feels a little impersonal, and a bit rushed. I get this from a lot of Asian restaurants, so perhaps it's a cultural thing, but if you are sitting down, I would like to feel catered to. I know that the owner brings all of her staff in from Queens, but maybe it's time to look at a different option and hire a new server with some fine dinning experience to train some of the staff. The food here is generally very good, but this experience was not the best. I tried the Tom Yum Goong soup for the first time, and it had a weird smell that I compared to feet. It didn't taste bad, but I couldn't get over the smell and since smell is half you taste, it ruined it for me. We shared the Siam Roll, and this is like the interior, very plane jane. It's tasty, but not popping tasty. It could also use a little dress up. Truth be told though, it's very well priced for what you get in the area. For an entree I had the Snapper done Pla Chu Chee... winner winner chicken dinner. The sauce is amazing, and I was in-love with it. The snapper was a little over fried for my taste and the meat was tough. I don't think that's how it's suppose to be, so I will try it again on another visit to see if that's how it comes out. My expectations were that the meat would be moist and a little flaky. This place won't hurt your wallet either. It's BYOB, and the prices are all relatively affordable. We walked out spending $55 with tip for two; not a bad deal. read more

Not a fan. I came in at lunch time and ordered the lunch Pad See Ew to go. The place was pretty busy and almost every table was full even though it was a little after 1 pm. Judging from the crowd as well as the reviews, I expected a solid meal. I was I unfortunately disappointed. Pad See Ew is something I love and I order it at most Thai restaurants. Normally, it has great flavor due to the sweet soy sauce and garlic. This one was really flavorless and had too much oil. One thing I didn't understand at all was that some noodles were completely white. Like no sauce or or browning at all. The noodles should at least be light brown due to the soy sauce and what not. Not sure if they added extra noodles later and they didn't add enough sauce but it was odd. I am normally hesitant about giving a place under 3 stars when I've only tried one dish. However, Pad See Ew isn't particularly difficult to make and also is a pretty standard dish so I don't think there is much room for error. The prices are fairly good- under $8 including tax for a pretty large portion. However I don't think I'll be back, at least for the Pad Se Ew. read more

How can you go wrong with a rice pyramid? I was impressed by the attention to 'show' at the restaurant. The menu is well designed with good graphics and well chosen typefaces. While the restaurant itself is small, it is comfortable and appealing. The food presentation is also great, each plate had its own rice pyramid and accompanying carrot garnish. Even the check came in a themed container. These little things tickle me (obviously) and make the experience magical! The only out of place thing was the Muzak. Featured artists included Jordan Sparks, Avril Lavigne and the like. How generic can you get ? I had some type of curry chicken dish and it was delicious. Mind you I'm not often a Thai food consumer. So I would at least say this is a good place to go for someone looking to try something new. read more

If the service weren't so rude here, I might be inclined to give 4 stars. But the servers were pushy about taking our order and quick to kick us out after we finished our entrees. We wanted dessert, but they didn't even bother to ask. I also felt like they just threw our food at us rather than serving us nicely. I considered saying the treatment we received was a combination of culture and the fact that this place was packed and had tight seating. But I've been to a gazillion other Thai restaurants so it wasn't a cultural thing. Also, our friends said they had been here at least 8 times and have gotten the same rude service each time. Yes, the place is tiny so I get that they want to keep turning tables, especially on a Saturday night, but there's a polite way to do that and a mean way to do that. These people do it the mean way. Obviously, the food is good or else our friends wouldn't keep going back. The broth in the Tom Yum soup was great, but the vegetables were a little too crunchy for my taste. The duck gra-pow was also delicious and probably in my top 10 duck dishes of all time, but not at all spicy, as advertised. I did have a taste of the coconut green curry broth. At least that had some heat to it. Delicious. The crispy banana fritters for dessert didn't do it for me. It tasted like something you would get in a Mexican restaurant, not Thai. Favorite Thai spot in the area! I'm always super happy with anything I order -- most frequently Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Panang Curry. My family had never eaten Thai food until I convinced them to order takeout from here, and they thought the noodle dishes were great. Easily the best option for Thai in the area is Ridge Thai, a jewel box of a restaurant located in Ridgewood's downtown. I thought the crab fried rice, mango stick rice, pad Thai, fried tofu were fantastic. The service was also warm and friendly. read more

I have no clue why it took so long for me to update this review. I usually have the Hai Lum here. You can ask for some spicy stuff on the side (seems to be fish based.) All of the curries are amazing, especially the red shellfish dish from their specialties page as well as basically everything else. Full pot of tea for 2 bucks is nice as well. This is honestly my favorite place in Ridgewood along with Mekong Grill, good that they are on the same block. Waiters have gotten nicer and nicer. read more

It has been years since I have visited with Ridge Thai and was so happy that we did. It is small yet quaint and very busy. We started with a classic, rice noodle that was such a nice flavor with basil, peppers, onions and broccoli with chicken as the selection of meat. Followed by green curry with Shrimp. The best pad Thai I've ever had. It's tucked away on one of Ridgewood's side streets and is definitely a hidden gem. It's small inside with about 6 tables, but decorated and really cute! I finally decided to give this place a try and I'm glad I did. My friend and I were craving some Thai food and we decided to try this place out. We ordered a shrimp appetizer which was delicious, it had a nice crispy crunch to it, it's very similar to shrimp tempura. I had a shrimp pad Thai dish and my friend had another dish which was flat noodles but I can't recall the name. The pad Thai dish was delicious and the shrimps were 5 nice jumbo size pieces. The interior of the place is really nice and it's a nice spot to take a date. The only small complaint is that they didn't ask if we wanted any desert or coffee, they just dropped off the check without asking if we wanted anything else. But that wasn't to big of a deal, they were at least on point with refilling my water so that redeems the service. But the next time I have craving for Thai food, I'll be happy to try the other dishes on the menu. read more

Just went here yesterday for lunch but it was the weekend so they weren't offering any lunch specials. I ordered Panang curry and my friend ordered Gang Ka Ree. I've always had yellow curry so i had to deviate away from this but to my dismay, the Gang Ka Ree that my friend ordered was extremely good. The Panang curry was okay, it was very herb-y and I suppose my taste buds weren't exactly fond of that. Our waitress messed up my order. I had wanted shrimp for the curry and instead I was given beef. I ate it anyway and decided to let it go. Nevertheless, the curry was delightful. I can't really tolerate spicy so it took some time to eat it but it was cooked well. My cousin ordered beef pad see ew. She liked it and I thought it was well seasoned. My other cousin was with us as well but I've forgotten what he had. We also ordered the Thai Bamboo Shrimp as an appetizer and it was thoroughly enjoyed. The sauce was fantastic! You should really try it :) The Thai Ice Tea was sort of thick, creamy and heavy. I like the fact that this restaurant is BYOB. We asked for some sake cups but they were more tea cups than sake cups. The interior is also nice, not tacky or anything. I'd come back maybe to try other things. And on a weekday too because their lunch specials are a lot cheaper :) read more

What a difference one person makes! Without that loud mouth fatso, this little place was much cozier. That also made the food much more enjoyable. It also helps a lot that I brought the right wine this time. The laab, that's the thai salad with minced meat, lime, mint and perhaps fish sauce. It was delicious for my first mouthful. Once I pair it with the chateauneuf-du-pape I brought, it brought out the additional minty and floral taste and aroma in the wine. It was heavenly. This was the first time I had "beef" laab. It has always been pork. It doesn't look like Ridge thai serves any pork though. My pad thai didn't match the wine, but by the time I got to my entree, I was also done with the bottle.....all by myself anyway. It didn't stop me from enjoying this amazing pad thai. The food here is very different from my most favorite thai place of all time - 4 seasons in Piscataway, NJ. The food here is more delicate, restrained, sophisticated.....waiting to be prodded and explored in different ways. Ridge Thai is seriously the thai place that I compare every other thai to and nothing else really compares. Comes close sometimes, but not quite. Everything we've had here has always been cooked perfectly and with tons of flavor. Siam Roll Golden Triangle Thai Salad Yum Goon-Chieng Laab Pad Key Mao (fave!) Pad Gra Prow (2nd fave!) and I could go on and on and on... Seriously, love this place. We go so often that the waitresses know what we want to order when we walk in. When we came in with a group of 7, the staff looked like they were about to sit down for lunch and looked disappointed that we were about to "ruin" their lunch plans. I am allergic to onions and specifically ordered something on the menu that didn't list onions. Sure enough, my dish came out with onions and the staff was not interested in correcting this mistake. After reading some of the reviews here and wanting to try this place out for sometime, I finally had the opportunity to give the place a shot and they certainly did not disappoint. I was afraid of the service based on what I read from other reviewers but soon found out that it completely depends on who you get as a waitress. Our waitress was prompt and our meals came out in a timely fashion. We first tried the chicken satay ($7.95) and Siam roll ($4.95) for our apps. The chicken satay was very moist and did not bite back like dried overcooked chicken sometimes tend to do. The accompanying peanut sauce was smooth,sweet and perfect. The Siam Rolls could definitely use some seasoning and a little more punch in terms of the filling. This was one dish I wasn't particularly impressed with. I wouldn't order it again. For entrees, we ordered the shrimp Pad Thai ($12.95) and the fried whole red snapper with extra spicy curry paste and coconut cream sauce ($23.95 worth every penny!). Both fantastic. The fish was fried perfectly with crispy skin and moist fillet topped with delicious coconutty spicy curry sauce. It was as good as I've ever had at any Thai restaurant in the area (Wondees and Bangkok Garden in Hackensack to name a few). We brought with us a 2009 Ravenswood Zinfandel which actually paired well with the spicy dishes we ordered and would highly recommend if you want to stick with red wine. A Pinot Noir should pair well also. Would not recommend a Cab or Bordeaux with this type of food. Service-wise, we sat down at 7pm and apps were out by 7:15ish. When Yelping restaurant or bar in Ridgewood New Jersey be prepared for the Cornucopia to hit the smart phone because there must be dozens upon dozens of restaurants and bars all smack dab in the middle of town all within a 3 to 4 block walk. Being pressed for time I had to call my old quick go to favorite Thai food. I love Tom yum soup $5, unfortunately their version is quite watered down and loaded with too many onions & mushrooms along with 2 slices of green & red pepper and 2 shrimp, really? I expect my TY soup to make my nose run this fell short even though I requested it spicy, fail. The Pad thai $9 however on the other hand was quite delectable, but only four large shrimp, dejavu? Succulent noodles very soft and very flavorful I asked for spicy and they delivered perspiration on my upper lip and forehead. As usual I requested some crushed red pepper on the side in case I wanted more and yes I wanted more heat, baby. Brewed green tea leaves @ $2 seeping in a charming tiny teapot a nice touch, but it always irks me to pay for tea. No limes? Service was ok and the place is clean, but very small with only 9 tables. No decor or music. Definitely noticed lots of take out. The rest of the the typical Thai dishes appeared to be available & priced well. Nothing extravagant. So to summarize for those keeping score at home: watered down bland soup a thumbs down, Pad Thai a staple in this culture a big thumbs up, but I noticed a lot of little frilly carrot garnishing on most of the plates really unnecessary and cluttered, average size portions, tea leaves, but super tiny pots, very little seating with no ambiance. For the most part they serve a really great meal here. Personally I love the green curry here which is perfectly spicy and full of flavor. My wife loves panang curry which is very good as well, but since the green curry is so hit or miss at other restaurants I find this is my go to spot for my green curry cravings. The appetizer "siam rolls" are not very satisfying in my opinion but others may find them to be great. Oh did I mention BYOB! They are kind enough to bring you a small ice bucket to keep your whites cool too which I find is often disregarded in Thai places. The place is small so pick a table away from the door if it is cold out since it can get a bit drafty on windy winter nights. I came here two times and the atmosphere and location is very cozy. It's a great place for a date with your girlfriend...but not really if you go with Mom (I did both). The food tastes great but I feel the portions are a bit small. Regardless, the price is fair and the atmosphere can't be beat.
