Found this on Uber eats. Everything was really bland and even the sauce didn't help it. I ordered steamed dumplings, which were very doughy. The chicken rice soup had barely any broth in it, I also got a wonton soup but I haven't tried it yet. The only OK thing was the vegetable roll, it was nice and crispy. I have had several occasions to get takeouts from Hunan Gardens. I had a hard time to find the place in my first visit because the place is located deep in the strip mall not visible from the street. So far, I haven't had a bad takeouts. Taste was consistently good, ingredients were fresh, the serving portion was generous, and the price was reasonable. I would rate this place to be outstanding compared with other Chinese takeout places, especially in Northern New Jersey. The restaurant staff was friendly and helpful to answer any questions that you may have. I definitely will continue my patronage with this establishment. read more

Ordered supper from here through Yelp app last week. Let me start with the positives. Food arrived, hot, fresh, on time, and followed all covid protocols. Now, the negatives, to give it the "ok" rating. The food was bland. I ordered the chicken wings appetizer and the Beef with Szechuan style veggies. I needed to doctor up the food with all the sauce packets that came with the order + extra soy sauce from my fridge and salt, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes and garlic powder. It was anything but a flavor bomb in my mouth. The chicken had a strange sweet consistency to it, I don't know if they dust it in sugar after coming out of the fryer. The beef was chewy and almost stringy as if they cut it with the grain. I probably will not order from here again. read more

This was the absolute worst Chinese food we have ever had. My child could have made a better meal. Where should I start, no flavor at all. Dry tasteless nasty rice, mei fun and beef and broccoli. The dumplings were hard, heavy, doughy and tasted like nothing. The shrimp toast was petrified and burn almost black, I spit it out. I cannot warn you enough to avoid this place. Tried this place for the first time tonight after deciding that the place walking distance from my house wasn't really that good. All I can say is WOW!!! SOOOOO good!! I got the Shrimp and Broccoli dinner combo and it came with an egg roll. The the shrimp were HUGE, the sauce was nice and light, the food was not salty at all, and the food tasted so fresh. I also ordered when I walked in and was in and out in 5 minutes. So super fast! This is my new go-to Chinese take-out place! I would definitely recommend it!!! read more

I am reviewing Hunan Gardens from the standpoint of the mid-90s. What I would have said as a seven year old: I love Hunan Garden, it is extremely yummy. I like the egg drop soup. Also the shrimp that is fried. Also the thin pancakes with the stuff you put in them. I wish we could eat chinese food every night. I also like that the people behind the counter give me extra fortune cookies, duck sauce and chinese noodles. I couldn't decide between a 1 or a 2 rating. We had been ordering from here for probably around 15 years, but stopped about 2 years ago when they dropped off in quality. I heard they recently changed hands so I thought we would try again. BIG mistake. The Wantons in the wanton soup were terrible. The spring rolls were average at best. The fantail shrimp were taken out of a freezer, defrosted in a microwave before frying, the best I can say is they were ok. The General Tso's chicken wasn't edible, the chicken was so over cooked it took a serrated knife to cut through. The pork fried rice was just a yellow colored rice with little if any pork, no egg, no peas, but I did find a slice of onion. The only thing that was somewhat edible was the chicken with green beans. What a shame. They will probably be changing hands again soon, or closing down. read more

It is the best I ever have eaten in my 52 year life having lived in New York City (Chinatown), Los Angeles and dozen other cities I have visited. Where to begin, we ordered here for the first time in more than 10 years. The fried rice was crunchy (undercooked rice), not a good start. The egg rolls were soggy with no flavor. Same with the beef with broccoli and lo mein; no flavor. There wasn't enough soy sauce to salvage this meal. We won't be back. We're still looking for a good take out place after Cathay closed. What's very underrated is that this place has like really really good wings which one wouldn't figure they had. standard pricing, dinner special combo is a little over $8. The only dishes I recommend are any of the shrimp entrees and the hot & sour soup.
