The ambiance is a bit stuffy, but it's a nice restaurant. Prices are a bit high for the serving sizes, but the Crab Hoelzel (which is never heard of before), Caesar salad, & French onion soup are delicious and they have a full bar and make their drinks well (at least our bartender/waitress did). Service is good and very friendly. I'd definitely go back, but probably not too soon since it's out of the way for me & a bit pricey for what it is. Excellent service from the minute we drove up to the valet parking, host seating us, the waitress and wait staff. NEVER had to ask for our water or ice tea to be refilled (No straws for your drinks). French onion soup was good but lacked the deep rich beef flavor. Added side salad to meal for $3.50 up charge but the dry blue cheese was an additional $5.99 up charge! The Veal chausseur was so tender. Chicken fettuccine sauce was a bit runny, after adding cheese it thickened up. Let's not forget the breadworks salt sticks. What a GEM!! So hidden, friendly, Italian and family owned! I loved it. I was brought here unexpectedly and I am from Chicago. I loved the vibe the history on the walls and the food. I could never leave out the awesome energy and the service was amazing. We were there when there was no one and then when they were exploding with business. Jay the bartender was great! Had a lovely dinner at Rico's a few months back to celebrate my Mom's birthday, as we do annually. Our group was 7 people, and we were seated in the additional room that may be used for banquets. It was our first time being seated in this area of all the times we went, but it was not an issue. We began the night with some drinks at the bar, and then were seated at our table at the time when our whole party was present. Started off with the Thinly Sliced Fried Zucchini, which is truly the best I have ever had - thin, crispy, and wonderful with Parmesan and lemon added. I personally had several daily specials. Enjoyed the Escarole Meatball soup as a starter. For my Mail course, I had the Salmon Italian Style, which was so delicious, accompanied by the Spinach and Mixed Greens! The crab meat and tomatoes added a lot to an already great dish. Others in my party got the various other items pictured: Broiled Seafood Rico and Rico's Famous Angel Hair (pink sauce, no pinolli nuts, add chicken). I, along with my family, always have a great experience at Rico's. We enjoy the old-time atmosphere, delicious dishes, and personal touches we receive when dining. Rico himself has personally talked we us and engaged in conversation several times over the years. We typically go during the week, but this visit was on a Saturday. So, I believe due to volume the following situations occurred. We requested bread several times, which is usually given at the table, but we never received it. This was disappointing due to the salt sticks being a favorite of my mom's. They were out of the French Onion Soup, which we wanted to try and were unable to. My last note is that after COVID, we were told the table-side service for the Caesar Salad only occurred on weekends. However, this time we were told they now only do it during the week. So, I am not sure when exactly they do this service, but wish we could have had that this visit. The Caesar and the dressing are wonderful, and the table-side adds a lot to the experience. Again, this is a wonderful restaurant and we will be back. Just hope to time the visit to where we can partake and experience all we want to! I started my night in the bar area while waiting for my table. I ordered the Lemon Drop Martini and it was the perfect thing to start my night. The bar was super busy but the bartenders were very attentive and even asked to take pictures of me and my friends as we were going out for Valentines Day. I had never been here before but it's my boyfriends favorite restaurant so I told him make the reservations and let's try it. Upon driving up to the restaurant you are met with a valet then when you walk in there is a maiter d' and a coat checker. It's more upscale so do be prepared for that when you go. As as appetizer we ordered the Fried Zuchinni.... let me tell you something.... this by far the BEST Fried Zuchinni I have ever tried in my life! I would come again and again just to order that. It's lightly breaded with the best seasoning and my friends loved it just as much! I got the Filet for dinner and was so happy that it was cooked perfect with it being medium rare not at kitchens cook the meat correctly and I have to send it back quite often. The Asparagus that was paired with the Filet was AMAZING! The garlic and butter used was phenomenal. I just can't get over how great this place was overall. My meal was breaded pork chops and I was satisfied with them. Good flavor and tender. The 2 people who had fish dishes felt they needed a little more seasoning. I had my first experience at Rico's for my birthday dinner! I was there with my husband, my mom, my dad, my brother and sister in law. We all really enjoyed our time. Everyone working from the bartender, host, and waitress were wonderful. We had the well known and amazing zucchini appetizer as well as the artichoke appetizer...I did not try that one...but I would get the zucchini every single time! Naturally, activity on a Friday or Saturday evening is different from mid week but that is the nature of restaurant dining. We have never felt pressured to leave the table to make space for someone. It is unfair to rate Rico's this time of year. We went at 11:30 when they first opened. It's Christmas time so there were many groups there. The matre d gave us an Ocean View, which is right by the window. I love the zucchini but it didn't come with Marinara Sauce so there was no bite to it. 19.95 which was ok. We were there 2 1/2 hours so we waited quite awhile for food. The onion soup was bland and it was an additional 4.50. The salad with Roquefort dressing was an additional 4.50. I had to ask for a glass of water since the waitress never stopped back to see if we needed anything. To be honest, I brought an important guest and I was highly embarrassed. For some of the best Italian food you can get in Pittsburgh go here and you must get the fried zucchini. It's not that battered garbage a lot of other places try to push on you. It's been in crispy and lots of flavor especially when you use the parmesan lemon or the tomato or both. The pasta is a great the veal is the best. Steaks and seafood are great. If you've never had it try the rotolo pasta dish with a vodka sauce. The bone-in veal chop is amazing. Mother's Day I called for reservations several weeks before the holiday. They only take reservations for parties of 6+. Dinner started at 4pm. So we pulled up the driveway just before 4pm. The valets parked our vehicles (free). The huge parking lot was less than 20% full. We were promptly seated. All of the tables were set with white linens and a single red rose. We ordered SoCo over ice, Bloody Mary with Grey Goose, and ice tea. The 90+ year old cognitively intact member of the group "This is the worst Bloody Mary that I have ever been served." Given the caliber of the restaurant, we expected field greens for the house salad. We were disappointed. The caprese salad had generous portions of tomatoes and mozzarella but was floating in the house dressing, not drizzled with Balsamic vinegar. Tables were quickly turned over. A staff member dropped a tray of full water glasses. Thankfully, the glasses didn't break, but water and ice cubes went everywhere. A poor job was done cleaning up the mess. When a table of guests were seated, one member sat in a puddle of ice water. The French onion soup was hot, had lots of onions, and had melted cheese with each bite. It was the highlight of the meal. The veal entrees were generous portions. The sweet potato fries were hot and crispy. The broccoli was overcooked. The crab florentine would have benefited from a different melted cheese (cheddar) or simply a lemon vinegarette. The crab and spinach were very good. When ordering, I didn't want a baked potato, broccoli, sucatash, or sweet potato fries. I ordered the asparagus after asking our waitress about the preparation. Per the waitress, the asparagus would be served hot with the house salad dressing drizzled over top. Execution: the asparagus was pickled, served chilled, and drown in the dressing. The bill reflected the restaurant's reputation of being high caliber. We planned our arrival to not be part of the dinner rush. When we were leaving, the huge parking lot was getting close to capacity. We left disappointed. read more

We had a three generation, post-Santa dinner at Rico's tonight. It's a throwback, but so am I, among the old baby boomers. I still have hard shoes and neckties and totally lack piercings and tattoos. We took full advantage of the broad menu, ordering bottles of red and white wine, zucchini appetizers, fish, shrimp, steak, chicken, pasta and dessert. Everyone passed on the Lima beans, the vegetable of the day. It was a long, drawn out affair, with excellent service. We pull up and it's forced valet, you did not have a choice. They were very nice. They took our jackets, and we were seated. Our waiter was rude. Bread was hard, stale, tasted store bought. Food took forever. The fettuccine didn't even have salt and pepper on it and was just extremely soupy. No flavor AT ALL was literally 2% milk. The "famous" angel hair was the same exact way. Don't recommend either. I think they are trying to cater to old people, but I felt sick after. 0 flavor. The broccoli was saugy. The French onion soup and scallops were ok. I'm not exactly sure how long this place has been around but during my most recent visit to Rico's, myself and my husband were the youngest patrons so I'd guess it's been around for a while. We started with the paper thin fried to perfection zucchini with marinara dipping sauce, then moved to some delicious and fresh salads. We also ordered some amazing Italian red wine and enjoyed the bread and butter offered until our amazing entrees arrived. My husband had the veal chop and vegetables and I enjoyed the lobster tail and Rico's famous pasta. Everything was amazing but I especially loved the crunch of the toasted pine nuts mixed into the light and tasty pasta.
