I have visited the Mount Lebanon location of this business in the past and had a wonderful time with both the food and the staff. That being said I wouldn't say this is life-changingly good Italian food, although it is very good. I'm writing this review because I arrived here with a friend at 2 PM on a Sunday, and was immediately told they could only seat us if we promised to be done by 3:45 because they needed the table then. I understand tables have to be held if reserved, but looking around this very large restaurant was only about 1/3 full if that. I also don't feel it's appropriate to communicate scheduling issues to the customer and make them my responsibility. I've never been given a time limit to eat at any restaurant, and from then on the vibes were off. Our server seemed annoyed with us too (maybe because we offered to order everything all at once in order to streamline things because we were told they needed the table) but was perfectly adequate at performing their job. It was a very strange and unwelcoming experience, and I would definitely recommend visiting one of their other locations instead. My friends and I had a girl's night and tried Il Pizzaiolo. I hadn't been for years and they had never been. We really enjoyed it. We started out with the autumn mule which was really good. It's a bit pricey at $16 each. We only had one. My other friend had a beer. My friend enjoyed her ravioli with Marinara and ate the whole thing. My other friend enjoyed her pasta too but I can't remember what it was. I really enjoyed the tagliatelle with Alfredo and prosciutto. I would definitely recommend making a reservation for dinner, even during the week. It was so busy for a Thursday night, every table was filled! We were seated outside on the patio which was really nice. We had a great server too! The food came out in a reasonable time & our drinks were never empty. They give you bread with dipping oil and it was amazing! We started with the meatballs as an appetizer because I saw on Yelp that they were a must have. They definitely were, some of the best meatballs I've had in a long time! I had the Penne Rosa for dinner and it was pretty good. My friends really enjoyed their pasta dishes too. I had the chocolate gelato for dessert and oh my gosh, it was incredible! I'm still thinking about it. The only reason I'm taking a star off is because of the ambiance. Alcohol brings a high profit margin.. this place is too high on alcohol. Drop the prices a few bucks on drinks and offer a few $40 bottles of wine.. that would still be pricey but would elevate them to 5 stars. Server was nice. Saw a lot of food mistakes from other diners. Overall, I'll go back, but with hubby alone... and after hitting my local pub for a wine or two before our seating time. This place has been on our list for awhile now. With our second child due any day, we decided we better get to Il Pizzaiolo sooner rather than later. My husband and I enjoy sharing our meals and got a side house salad (which was enormous and full of flavor), rigatoni with sausage and meatballs, and the calzone. After traveling to Italy a few months ago, we learned to appreciate true al dente pasta and our rigatoni was cooked perfectly! The meatballs and sausage were really tasty too! We made a reservation a couple weeks in advance and we're promptly seated on arrival in a nice booth. Complimentary bread and EVOO followed while we reviewed the menu. For our meal we shared a house salad, a rigatoni with meatball & sausage, and a calzone. The salad was a very generous portion and full of fresh ingredients. We got it topped with peppers too. The rigatoni was al dente and the meatball was Heaven! The calzone was a little on the small side and didn't have near as many fixings as I would've expected, but was well cooked in the pizza oven and had nice flavor too. My husband and I came here on a whim on a weeknight and we were definitely impressed! We didn't make a reservation, and luckily we didn't need to. The ambiance is calming as soon as you walk in. I love the decor. We were pretty hungry, so for an appetizer we ordered the arancini balls. We had arancini at our wedding and always have to try them to see if they are just as good - they were! For entrees, I got the Paglia E Fieno and my husband got the Linguine Vongole. We were both so happy with our food! Mine was definitely a creamier dish, which is what I wanted, while my husband's was more on the lighter side, which is also what he wanted. The only down side was that the clams were pretty small compared to pictures that we saw online. It still tasted great though!
