The Chicken Sandwich(Mild).
Oliver B.

Richie's Hot Chicken is a cool spot to get your chicken sandwich fix. The employees were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor was nice as well. I got the chicken sandwich meal with fries. The chicken was mild when it came to the heat level. You can make it hotter if that is your thing. The chicken sandwich was pretty good with good flavor. The mild heat was just right. The fries were just okay in my opinion. They were nothing special even with the seasoning on them. The good thing about the fries was the fact that you get a lot of them. I will eat there again in the future and try something different. If you are nearby, should consider stopping by for a good chicken sandwich. You won't regret it.

Chicken Slider Meal $12.99

The chicken slider combo meal ($12.99) includes two chicken sliders, topped with tasty coleslaw, and some nicely seasoned French fries. All of the food is very tasty - I recommend the fries as your side - seasoned well, and a very decent serving size. It's good food, but on the pricey side (but what's not pricy these days?) Parking is abundant, and you can stop by Big Hops right next door for a cold brew (you can even bring your food into Big Hops). It took 24 minutes to get my food on my first visit. I know things happen, so I'm not counting this against them. I'm just dropping it here as a measuring stick.

I was in the area and decided to try out Richie's Hot chicken and honestly after trying multiple different chicken spots here in San Antonio. This one was very mid I'm not sure what it was because everything was really well seasoned But just wasn't hitting. I would probably get the sliders with the fries if I went there again. Service was fine, and the interior was clean

Our first time trying Richies Hit Chicken and it was pretty good. We got 2 loaded fries. I didn't care for the coleslaw in the loaded fries. The chicken, fries, and heat were perfect! The pickles on top made the dish. The flavor and spices were delicious. Lots of fountain drinks out which was disappointing.

In 2019 I tried Hattie B's hot chicken in Tennessee. That was the first time I ever had hot chicken, and I've never enjoyed hot chicken outside of Tennessee sense. That is until I went to Richie's. I got the grilled cheese sandwich with the spicy hot chicken. That is a thick, heavy, delicious sandwich. I also got an order of some spicy peach flavored wings. That were really interesting. I'm picky with wings, but I enjoyed these a lot. I was amused by the peeps shake, so I ordered one of those. It was pretty tasty. It reminded me of the vanilla shakes. I used to get at Floyd's when I was a kid.

Overall, the food was cooked amazing seasoning lack on the food, on the chicken tender basket. I got a medium heat level, which was fine. You'll definitely wanna go up a higher level. If you're looking for something that's gonna give you more of a burn on your mouth the person that I went out to eat with got the burrito which he said, lacked flavor, along with the fried pickles needing a bit more seasoning, although the breading was good. Now with the dipping sauce, it's about $.99 for an extra one, but the dipping sauces weren't that big definitely could've been a larger portion for the price that was paid. overall, the service was good. The lady at the register was very friendly and to say the restaurant itself was very nice, but not very clean and some of the tables are a little wobbly the light fixture directly above the tables are bright and can be unpleasant so I wouldn't come here as a first choice but if I ended up here again, I would eat it.

What is this stuff and what is it for?

First off, I'll say that, had I just ordered the chicken tenders, this review might have been a 4 or 5 star one, but they were held back by a few things. The tenderes were juicy wellprepared with a decent amount of spices and , though Im not a fan of SUGAR on chicken; it wasn't overwhelming and didn't kill the tenders. (4 stars -1 for the sugar). If you are ok with that type of seasoning then they are worth a try. They really were very tender and juicy, and also HUGE. (see pics). I ordered the mild three piece. Where this combo took a nose dive into the shallow end of bad was the fries. They were stale and cold Some were ven tough likcardboard. The seasoning wasn't too overwhelming, but again...ot had sugar. Hate the sugar, but didn't take off for that. My guess is they make the fries in large batches because the portion they give you is just "stupily huge". If they cut the amount in half (or even in third) and fried these up fresh to order, it would be great. You'd get Fresh Fries instead of cold, stale ones that taste of heat lamps and sadness with seasoning sprinkled on. I also got the slaw, which is a teeny tiny amount the size of the salad dressing? container they add to the order. The slaw was kinda...meh...bland. I also got the ranch (decent) and the RichiesSauce (also decent), but the amount they give you is a $1 charge half of the size you get in the FREE "Salad dressing? Really..what is that for? I didn't order a drink because I read in other reviews the sweet tea is syrupy sweet and I didn't want to take a chance on the unsweetened that being too weak and watered down..so no drink. At the end, I was kinda on the fence since the chicken was decent too, but I paid just over $17 for 3 good pieces of chicken and two fistful of cold, stale fries I couldn't eat and had to throwaway. Would I come back? Order again? Maybe, but the stale fries and sugar make me think twice. I'm not a fan of diabetes. I don't need sugar on EVERYTHING. So...3 stars is me being generous. FIX the FRIES Richies!

It's finally time to write a review since I've been here more times than the fingers on my hands. First off, Ritchie's is HALAL. I'd compare it to Dave's Hot Chicken...but SO MUCH BETTER. If you like Dave's, try Ritchie's...you'll forget Dave's. I find the chicken at Richie's is not only larger but the tenderness is off the charts. We have had a few of the menu items but Rich's Special on the buns is what keeps us coming back. The slaw is crafted so that it's crunchy and flavorful and the chicken is hubba hubba. The seasoned fries are also * chef's kiss * There is adequate seating throughout the restaurant. A few of the booths have a beautiful view because of the elevation. At the very beginning, they had an issue with air conditioning but that has been resolved. The service has always been impeccable, and there have been plenty times that our food has actually been served to us at our table.

Hands down THEE BEST HOT CHICKEN SANDWICH I've ever had! It was heat hot, fresh and ready! The fries were seasoned well! The service was good and it's a nice sit down inside. Lots of tables. Good for family, friends, teens and even a date. This is my spot the next time I'm in San Antonio!

This sign put a smile on my face. Good job Richie!

My understanding is that Richie's is a food truck that did well enough to go the 'brick n' mortar' route. If so, congrats! The success is well deserved. Visited them right as they opened on a Wednesday morning, so there was no crowd. Service was fast and friendly, and I liked the cool vibe they were going for. I even got a seat at a table with a little bit of a view of the nearby stream/runoff canal in the trees! The chicken's very good, though it falls short of great. The sandwich portion is HUGE - easily the size of both my hands! - but is unexpectedly dry. You really need to slather on the sauce to be able to eat it. Also, while I shied away from the Reaper level of spice, I did order it hot. It's hot (temperature-wise) but it's surprisingly bland when it comes to the spice. On the flip side, the fries with my order were zippy when it came to flavor...but were lukewarm! Maybe the kitchen had an off day? In any case it was still very good, and I'll be coming back to take my chances with the Reaper pepper level of heat! This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

Dark but funny decor

After seeing S.A.Foodie's video on Facebook and reading the reviews, I wanted to check what the hype was about! Upon walking in, it felt a bit dark and drab with its color pallets and honestly I didn't realize we came in through the back, although the front was locked. However it was clean, with booths to sit in and even high chair booths which is nice. They had several tv's and projections going and we were greeted by the cook and the person taking our order. The menu is small but you can pretty much ask for any type of adjustments or modifications! They will accommodate! Also, we noticed a sticker on their door that their products are Halal. What I saw on the video, they didn't have exactly as it was shown but when I showed it to the girl, she was very patient with me and told me which sandwich and the modification. What we ordered: - 10 piece wings w/lemon pepper and mango habanero sauce: The wings were crispy and fried to perfection and the sauces were tossed just right. Not too much, not too little. My husband doesnt usually like sauced wings. He's more of a rub type but said both sauces were good but found the mango habanero slightly sweet for his liking. They also provide you an option of bleu cheese or ranch and celery. The wings were good but nothing stood out to make you want to run here for the wings, - Chicken Sando w/fries: I added Mac n' cheese to the sandwich as a modification and you have the choice of 5 different levels of spice (none, mild, medium, hot and atomic). I opted for the medium because I've never been here so I don't know what their medium heat level was like. They make your sandwich to order so everything came out piping hot and fresh! The fries are perfection! Seasoning was on point! Not too salty, not too bland. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sandwich didn't look anything like what I saw on the video with the Mac n' cheese runnith' over the sandwich, but I now realize these videos over embellish and create a story to draw people in. I wouldn't have been able to pick up the sandwich had they made it the way they did on the video. Either way, the sandwich was pretty good. The sandwich was piping hot too and I had to let it cool down a bit before eating it. The chicken was crispy but juicy in the middle. The spice level of medium, to me was perfect enough to get that heat but still be able to enjoy it. I hate to compare but if you had the hot n'spicy "chicken" sandwich at McDonald's or Wendy's, it's that kind of heat level...manageable. It didn't make my nose run, which is a win! I'm pretty picky on Mac n' cheese and I will say that this was pretty good! Not overly cheesy and the texture wasn't mushy. The only issue I had with it was that there wasn't enough on the sandwich, it didn't cover it enough to get in every bite. The coleslaw was nice and crunchy to give you a different level of texture but a bit sweeter for my liking if you eat the slaw on its own. If you eat it all together, it actually balances out quite nice between the saltiness of the chicken and the sweetness of the slaw. Everything complimented each other. It also comes with a side of Richie's sauce which I could eat with anything! On the chicken, dipped with the fries. It was very similar to the Raising Cane's sauce for comparison. Do I recommend this place, absolutely, especially if you're in the area!

The ambience is clean, spread out, and slightly dimmed towards the back, but it gives a nice welcoming vibe. They have a really good hip-hop and R&B playlist, which gives a fun experience. The service is excellent, everyone beginning to end was super nice and helpful. Our server did a great job at explaining the menu and what to expect. We got the original fried chicken, which is basically a chicken cut up into pieces so you get a little bit of everything of a whole chicken. This recipe is still crispy, we got the honey soy sauce on the side, and that sauce is amazing! We ended up ordering more. We also got the crispy wings, those are double fried and definitely have lots of crisp! Every piece was hot and fresh, very juicy and a perfect seasoning. We also ordered some fries that had a powdered cheese on them and the guy did let us know it was a sweet cheese, but I was definitely not expecting that much sweet. Honestly they were not my favorite, it's very strange to have a sweet powdered cheese on french fries. I was not a fan, but my husband liked them. And lastly, is the slaw and the pickled radish that they bring out, I liked those very much and they gave a perfect balance and touch of acid against the wings and the richness of the sauce. The location isn't something you immediately see off the road, it's right in the corner of a strip mall off of De Zavala. Definitely worth the trip, these wings and this chicken were 10 out of 10!

Came in with a couple of coworkers and my best mate, Tommy Tough Knuckles. If you are going to put a place like this on trial, you bring witnesses. The beer: Bud Light on tap was phenomenal. Cold, clean, exactly what you want when wings are involved. Most of the table went with micheladas, which felt like the right move at the time and honestly looked fantastic. If you are in a wings bar that knows what it is doing, you trust the michelada crowd. The appetizer: First timers get treated right here. Our server brought out the pizza roll appetizer on the house, which is essentially an egg roll stuffed with pizza goodness. Crunchy shell, molten cheese center, zero notes. A dangerous starter in the best way possible. Ten out of ten. The wings: Twenty traditional wings. Fifteen Buffalo hot, five lemon pepper. Let's be honest. When Buffalo hot comes out in Buffalo, expectations are sky high. I would not have minded a touch more heat, but the flavor absolutely carried the day. These were balanced, buttery, and deeply satisfying wings that remind you why this style became the standard. The lemon pepper deserves special praise. Too many places drown these wings in seasoning until it feels like a science experiment. Not here. Clean, even coverage, bright without overpowering the chicken. Simple, confident, executed properly. Overall wing verdict. Ten out of ten. This place knows exactly who it is. No gimmicks, no reinvention, just history backed up by execution. You come here for wings, beer, and the feeling that you are sitting inside something that actually matters. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I argue with anyone who calls this the home of the Buffalo wing? Not a chance.
