Ahhh yes, the Anchor Bar. The self proclaimed home of the Buffalo wing. That is a bold statement. Would it hold up in court? Yes. The court rests. Came in with a couple of coworkers and my best mate, Tommy Tough Knuckles. If you are going to put a place like this on trial, you bring witnesses. The beer: Bud Light on tap was phenomenal. Cold, clean, exactly what you want when wings are involved. Most of the table went with micheladas, which felt like the right move at the time and honestly looked fantastic. If you are in a wings bar that knows what it is doing, you trust the michelada crowd. The appetizer: First timers get treated right here. Our server brought out the pizza roll appetizer on the house, which is essentially an egg roll stuffed with pizza goodness. Crunchy shell, molten cheese center, zero notes. A dangerous starter in the best way possible. Ten out of ten. The wings: Twenty traditional wings. Fifteen Buffalo hot, five lemon pepper. Let's be honest. When Buffalo hot comes out in Buffalo, expectations are sky high. I would not have minded a touch more heat, but the flavor absolutely carried the day. These were balanced, buttery, and deeply satisfying wings that remind you why this style became the standard. The lemon pepper deserves special praise. Too many places drown these wings in seasoning until it feels like a science experiment. Not here. Clean, even coverage, bright without overpowering the chicken. Simple, confident, executed properly. Overall wing verdict. Ten out of ten. This place knows exactly who it is. No gimmicks, no reinvention, just history backed up by execution. You come here for wings, beer, and the feeling that you are sitting inside something that actually matters. Would I come back? Absolutely. Anchor Bar is truly the OG for wings. They have so many varieties of wings to choose from with flavors and rubs for anyone's taste. The wings themselves are juicy and perfectly cooked every time. I love the options they offer as far as serving size and number of wings available so you definitely have the option to try several flavors. A good place for chicken and beer with friends. Met up with a couple of friends for wings on a weekend and have no complaints; it was your standard sports bar with loud TVs and friendly servers. We got a huge plate of boneless wings with four flavors and tons of leftovers, the drinks were creative and reasonably priced, and the service was consistent without being overbearing. So, we came to this location for a Texan watch party. Place is big, plenty of room for large groups. Indoor and outdoor. Bathrooms are unisex. Floors are slippery as hell. The spot we sat at was a bit warm. Like a said, this place is big. Our waitress was awesome, she kept checking on us, and was friendly. The guys(men) that work here need to be more attentive to the waitresses, and help them out with the trash cans. One of us in our group got up to help the staff. We got some appetizers only, we got the habanero chicken on a stick, spicy. Took me an hour to eat it. We also had a sample plate, pizza logs, super greasy, Mac and cheese fried balls. So I've been to Duff's in Buffalo (although not anchor bar). And I've eaten a LOT of chicken wings in my life, these were so good. They're huge and meaty and I love that this place doesn't nickel and dime you for sauces and blue cheese and stuff. I don't think my wife and I would both get full on just the wings, but between that and the salad (which seriously is HUGE) we were stuffed and still brought home at least half the salad. First time trying Anchor Bar. Based on what we have heard, it held up. It's your regular sports bar atmosphere, but it does have a few games for the kids if you bring them. Really had a great time this afternoon at Anchor Bar. We sat outside and Michaela was our server. We ordered a festive margarita and a blue moon, both delicious! Food wise we got the kids pizza, kids chicken strips, snack boneless wings, 10 count normal wings, and chicken on a stick. Sauces were normal buffalo, spicy bbq, and honey siracha. Honey siracha was my husbands favorite! We got normal fries and wedge fries, equally delicious. Chicken on a stick was way more than we thought it would be and wonderfully spicy!! It was a lovely 73 degrees outside under a beautiful tree for shade! Kids loved the playground after. We will absolutely be back!! The only down side was the restrooms. Could use some TLC! read more

We picked Anchor bar because we wanted a play area for the kids while we enjoyed some food and drinks. It was empty during lunch for a Saturday . One person greeted us while the other staff was hovered around the bar. The machine up front that promised a free play if you scanned the QR code did not work--staff couldn't figure it out nor cared. Food was good but service was horrible! We ordered 20 wings and pizza logs to start. We never got the pizza logs and it took 35 min for the wings! The wings came out warm not hot. This is the second time I been to Anchor bar and the service was horrible! We live on the Southside and drive over for good food but next time we will just drive to Austin! As previous Western New Yorkers (ROCHESTER), we were pretty excited to go to an Anchor Bar here in Texas. We had actually visited the original location this past summer while on vacation in NY and planned to hit up this one in San Antonio. My husband was especially excited for the Beef on Weck and his beloved Buffalo wings. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday night. The place wasn't crazy busy but it wasn't dead either. Since it was pretty loud in there, we requested to sit outside since it was a beautiful evening. We sat there for a good 15-20 minutes without ANYONE coming over to us. 2 servers walked past us numerous times in addition to what appeared to be a manager who came outside and looked at us and went back in. NO ONE EVER came over. After about 20 minutes we decided to leave. Despite living in Houston, my husband works out of San Antonio about once a month and planned to take his work team here for a dinner to show him "his roots" but now he doesn't plan to return. We hadn't been to Anchor Bar in forever (1604 has been a mess with construction) but we had a day of nothing to do and DH suggested we get wings here. I'm so glad we did! Truly some of the best and tastiest wings we've both had in a long while (and we have wings several times a month). We ordered 30 (I told you he's a wings fan!) - 10 ea of buffalo dry rub, spicy bbq, and honey sriracha. I expected the honey sriracha to have a little more heat, but they were still delicious, hot and crispy. Buffalo rub was DH's favorite because he likes a good dry rub, and my favorite was the spicy bbq! I never (ever) get bbq of any kind, but our wonderful server Ashley recommended them. I can't wait to have these again... sweet and spicy with just a touch of heat on the back end. Super flavorful! We had wedges, which were also served perfectly hot and crispy. We had heard that they recently won Best Wings in SA, which normally goes to Wayne's, and although I haven't seen that published anywhere, it wouldn't surprise me based on the amazing wings we had! As much as I love them, I don't eat wings as often as I'd like to. When I do have them, I usually hit up Wayne's Wings down the street from the casa. My family and I visited Anchor Bar in celebration of my nephew's new gig as a pilot. I had been here a few times but never wrote a review. The place is huge with plenty of seating and TVs all over. We were seated right away and practically had the entire section ourselves. Our waitress soon came by for our drink orders. I went a voodoo ranger hazy IPA. Really like that they offer it in a 25 oz'er! Our drinks soon appeared and we placed our food order next. Since we were visiting on a Monday, their anchor bites (boneless wings), were 50 cents a piece. I went with spicy garlic parmesan and mango habanero. I also got a side of fries to accompany it. I really enjoyed my selections. Each of the sauces were unique in their own way, and the size of the pieces were a decent size. The fries were cooked perfectly as well and had a good flavor. Based on my recent experience, I will definitely try to make it back here more often. read more

This Anchor Bar location has been my place for the last few years to hang with the Bills Mafia team and Saturdays with the Notre Dame Family. Why do I keep coming back is due to the amazing staff! Lisa is the best manager, she knows everyone like they are family. Each server is always hustling and love they wear a shirt/Jersey that matches the team they will be serving for the day, pretty Cool. This is exactly the type response I was hoping for, and will definitely return to Anchor Bar for future gatherings! **** Six of us visited this past Monday, at my recommendation, for our monthly luncheon. Service was wonderful ... prompt and friendly and the atmosphere was perfect. Two of us ordered the roast beef on a kimmelweck roll, which I've had before. Have they changed the supplier of the weck rolls? There must have been a teaspoon of salt on the top portion of the roll, making it impossible to eat. Both my friend and I scraped off 90 percent of the salt making it much more palatable. We were celebrating a birthday so in lieu of complaining during the luncheon, I called the next day to discuss with someone who makes the food choices. All the managers were not available at the time I phoned but my name and number were taken so I could be called back. I did mention everything else but the salty roll had been great and looked forward to a return call which now, several days later, has never come. I'd eaten the roast beef and weck roll previously and no way had it been that salty. Did not want a refund or free food, only wanted to share the experience we had. :( read more

This is quickly becoming a favorite spot with each visit. My first visit was a bit slow on service. But I could tell they were short on staff. So I let them know I'd return when I had a bit more time. This next time was excellent. The bartender got to me fairly quickly even though she had several tables and the bar top. She made some jokes with me and told me about their wings. The bar is set up in a spacious wrap around where half is inside and half outside. I will have to come back when it's not 100 degrees and enjoy the outside patio. Looks like there is plenty of seating, plenty of friendly service, and good eats. read more

I like this location vs the one in Schertz. The service has always been friendly and quick. The wings come out piping hot and crispy every time. Hubby and I usually go during happy hour for their buy 10 traditional wings get 10 free. It's a great deal and it's on Mon-Wed 3-6pm. They also have other specials on different days. Checked out Anchor Bar for the 1st time last nt. We ordered drinks & the loaded tots and chicken on a stick. The loaded tots were pretty good. Served w a side of ranch so that is always delish! The Chicken on a Stick- there were 3 to an order and they were BIG! We could have split a order, TBH. Husb ordered a draft beer & I ordered a Mango rita. It tasted good (w Chamoy stick!!) but very weak!! I could not taste a trace of tequila. That's the 4-star .. if the drink were better it'd be 5 star. The buffalo lemon pepper wings are 10/10 and always cooked to perfection. My wife loves their salads as well. Be warned, it will ruin wings for you everywhere else! After driving past Anchor Bar almost daily, I decided it was finally time to try it and went with my parents. When we arrived, we were initially going to be seated at a high top but my mom struggles with higher chairs from her hip surgery so we requested a lower table. The hostess was very friendly and was happy to seat us in the back room at a booth. While it wasn't as nice of an ambiance, it was just what we needed having my mom with us so I was grateful. We had to wait quite awhile for a server to come to our table... I actually thought they may have forgotten about us because we were in the back room. Luckily, they did end up coming and they took our drink/app order. We ordered a Moscow Mule, a margarita flight (with plain Mango instead of Mangonada) and a Tito's w/ Soda. The drinks took awhile to come, but did look nice upon arrival. All of the flavors in the margarita flight were good, but the moscow mule was definitely the best drink of the group. For food, we ordered the following: - Loaded Nachos: Just OK and an item I wouldn't order again. We ended up ordering ranch because the cheese topping was somewhat flavorless and minimal in the amount put on top. Luckily, the bacon did help with some flavor but it still wasn't enough. - Large Supreme Pizza: Looked great when it came out but ended up being a very disappointing item. The pizza itself tasted overcooked and yet it was cool/ cold. Seems like they let it sit quite awhile before it was brought to our table. We did inform our server and she offered to fix the issue or call the manager but at this point we were hungry and tired of waiting. We said we'd just deal with it but wanted her to know for her other tables. - Boneless Wings (Lemon Pepper & Garlic Parmesan): Both flavors were delicious but the lemon pepper was definitely the best!
