I took my daughter to lunch here because I wanted to use my Hilton surpass CC credit. Since this resort was just recently taken over by Hilton, I had to check it out. We arrived kind of early for lunch, I think it was around 11:30a on a random weekday. The parking lot was kind of full but I found a space. Make sure to inquire about getting parking validation, as my license plate was recognized by the parking service company even though I didn't get any kind of paper ticket. The menu was clubhouse fare, nothing too fancy, which was fine. We shared a Caesar salad, which they split for us into two bowls. The bowls were high sided like soup bowls. Not ideal but it was fine. I really liked the cornbread croutons, and I'm usually not a crouton eater. For my meal I got a cheeseburger with upgraded sweet potato waffle fries. I think my daughter got a grilled chicken burger, I can't recall. Service was great as we were the only people in the restaurant for a while. Or crazy about the country music pumped right at us, but I guess they think that's the kind of music that should be played for the setting? Lots of parking outside. They also have a valet. It's big when you walk in, and the entrance is to your right, and it is very spacious inside when you walk in. It wasn't as busy when we arrived, so we sat at the bar. The bartender/server was phenomenal, very welcoming, and nice. So, I didn't get much to eat. I just wanted to relax, but I got the jerk chicken with hot sauce and a Texas cheesesteak. So I took a star off due to the fact when we went in there was literally no one at the bar or in general, we waited about 15 mins before anyone even came from the kitchen I'm assuming. The first person that came was a guy and he just looked at us gave a quick smile and grabbed menus so I'm lk okay he's coming but nope he ended up going to a couple of girls that came in way after us, which come to find out I guess that little group works there or at least one of them did. We ended up finally getting served by a female. So we came bc the beers on Monday are 2.54 and the apps are half priced. The food was pretty good, better than the cocktails. The girl said she never made the ones I was asking for which is fine she had the recipe book bc she was able to tell me what was in them since the flyer doesn't say. But I feel she prob didn't measure correctly or at all bc they were just meh. I feel lk the spots at this resort need to really up their customer service and maybe train the bartenders to make cocktails that really should be up to par with the atmosphere. We visited this place on a Saturday evening during restaurant week. Keep in mind this restaurant is inside the La Cantera resort, not really off a main road. Open Table did not have available reservations from 6-8pm for a table of four, but they did for 5:45 pm. When we got there, only two tables had people in the entire restaurant. It was 90% empty. Not sure they didn't have open availability for reservations. FYI Food- chicken strips (for the kids) Chicken Wings, giant pretzel, salads and burger. All the food was tasty, but the star of show were the wings. They were breaded and contained the perfect crisp . Plus they have happy hour on Saturdays too (these were on the happy hour menu.) Drinks: Margaritas on the rocks were made to perfection and were an excellent Service- was just okay. This would be a good place for happy hour. We are staying at La Cantera this weekend and went to Grill 254 to grab a bite to eat. The food and the service was awful. My husband had to get up repeatedly to find out where our food was where our drinks were, etc. The nachos basically tasted like canned cheese poured over overly salted nachos. The only thing good was the brisket. Our salad came out with no dressing and we had to ask for it twice. In fact he had to go in and tell them that their smoker was on fire! Went here in December to celebrate and had a wonderful evening. There were not many here on a Wednesday night, but the bartender and waitress both served us with class. Even better was the happy hour of $5 mules and Old Fashions, along with HUGE $7 burgers. The drinks were solid, especially the mule that came with candied ginger. The appetizer was the pretzel that was big enough for 4-5 people to share. Freshly made that had dark mustard and cheese on the side. After the meal, we went outside to enjoy the nice evening sunset and view towards downtown. As we were sitting out there, got to talking with the Security guy, Mark. He was ever so polite and ended up giving us an Anniversary gift of Mud Pie that we enjoyed by the fireplace. Next time I'm going for the Vanilla Eclair Sundae that looked incredible. Cool sports bar located in the golf club of La Cantera Resort. A friend told us about this place, so we decided to check out their happy hour. Restaurant has a casual yet classy ambiance. I went in with no expectation, but was pleasantly surprised. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was delicious! We started off with the big warm pretzel and shared the chickpea quinoa burger. I don't usually go for veggie burgers, but it was really good! There are also plenty of craft beers on tap, decent wine list and a decent cocktail menu. Their happy hour is from 3-7 Mon- Fri, but they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well. This is one of my favorite restaurants at the La Cantera Resort and Spa. Their food is simple but always consistently flavorful . Their customer service is quite good and even if they don't normally serve dinner in this sports restobar , if ever I stay at La Cantera I will try as much as possible to have lunch in here . As another Yelper mentioned, this place can be tricky to find...especially with an Apple phone map. We tried the Fried Brussels from the Starters and were pleasantly surprised. The brussel sprouts were fried but not over-done like a lot of places....and the spicy ginger soy that adorned them was perfect. Not too salty and not too spicy. The shinning star was the generous portion of crispy pancetta that accompanied the sprouts. We also had the Greens Cobb. Ehh it was 3 stars. It's a cool place for a late afternoon happy hour. It doesn't get too busy but I was out of there before 7pm. It's a full service restaurant, with a full bar, wine, and about 20 craft beers on tap - most of them brewed in Texas. Monday through Saturday from 3p to 7p, they have $5 wells, $5 drafts, $7 burgers and appetizers. I'd hate to see what their prices are like AFTER happy hour - OUCH! The patio/balcony kicks @ss, but there's no table service out there. However, if you order food at the bar, they will bring it out to you. Awesome views of the golf course and it's up on a hill, so on a clear day you can see the city skyline WAAAYYY off in the distance. The signage to find the actual building is lacking, but if you use Google Maps (DON'T use Apple Maps!) it will get you to the parking lot and then you can use the walking feature of Google Maps to locate which building it is. Let's start with the menu. The menu on yelp had a few more hamburger options than the one in the restaurant. Example. No fried bologna and no veggie burger. The cheese curds were awesome but the all American was dry and the bread was not fresh. The grilled cheese was tasty but the barbque was tough. Sitting by the fire was cozy but in essence it's the 19th hole of the La Cantera Golf Resort. We cannot complain about the service but the restaurant was pricy. $21 for a salad is a bit much. I occasionally visit La Cantera Resort because I live in the neighborhood and the grounds are so beautiful, peaceful, and it can be a good place to bring your laptop and work from. We typically go to Sweet Fire, another restaurant located at La Cantera Resort, and it's always consistent with service and food quality, so I expected that same consistency at Grille 254, but we were sadly disappointed. The atmosphere was very nice! lovely sports bar with a few games to play and plenty of comfortable seating areas. We sat at the bar, where they have charging areas. The bartender's service was great! He checked in with us periodically as well as all the other customers at the bar. The issue for me was the food. We ordered two burgers with a side of fries. The meat was not seasoned AT ALL. It was the blandest burger ever. Not even seasoned with salt and pepper. I don't know if that has to do with the type of cliental they typically serve, but BFR, at least salt and pepper. I recommend this place for drinks only and only if you are staying at the resort or a local that lives in the area. It's not worth going out of your way for. If you have ever stayed there, you know that they push the fancy restaurants like Signature more than anything else. Luckily because of that, you can normally just walk right into this place. When I was a fledgling foodie, a greenhorn gastronome, I might have been impressed with a resort burger, the kind stacked with pre-cooked patties sourced from Sysco and flaccid bacon left over from the morning's breakfast buffet. Now I know better than to plop down $15 on a boring burger at a boring resort. When I caught wind that a restaurant had opened at La Cantera Resort -- this one a casual, bar-focused affair -- I steered clear initially, for I knew what to expect: overpriced clubhouse fare best suited for wealthy middle-aged golfers. Imagine my surprise when Yelpers began uploading pictures of not only burgers (tantalizing ones) but also items I would never have expected from a resort café: caramelized Brussels sprouts paired with crispy pancetta, a cider-brined pork chop, a towering slab of mud pie. Granted, nothing I saw seemed particularly inspired (sprouts and "dirty" burgers topped with fried eggs are vestiges of early aughts hipster noshing), but the photos did look promising. Having visited Grille 254 a record seven times ("Duke!"), I am pleased to report that the food is indeed several tiers above typical resort café fare. The man responsible for Grille 254's small but eclectic dinner menu is Giovanni Silva, a promising young CIA grad whose credits include sous-chef at Andrew Weissman's Signature and chef de cuisine aboard various cruise lines. Silva's culinary approach reflects both the discipline he learned from Oberführer Weissman (from-scratch cooking, inspired plating, attention to detail) and the crowd-pleasing favorites (big burgers, big steaks, big chops) served to countless baby boomers aboard the cruise lines. Chef Silva's talent is apparent in a thick-cut pork chop that retained its juiciness despite being cooked all the way through. Both sides picked up a caramelized amber crust courtesy of the cider brining, while a dollop of coarse, house-ground mustard contributed extra twang and resuscitated the centermost portion of the chop, the only part untouched by the brine. Like every entrée, the chop came with a choice of two sides. I chose creamy whipped garlic potatoes and Brussels sprouts tossed in a mouth-puckering sweet-and-sour glaze. I've spent considerably more on lesser pork chops at several high-end steakhouses throughout the city. The allure of the wedge salad has eluded me for decades, yet I continue to order it from time to time, hoping perhaps that the quality of the toppings will somehow turn me on to the vegetal paperweight that is iceberg lettuce. Iceberg enthusiasts defend its texture, claiming it contributes sufficient crunch to salads and sandwiches, but I see it as a chunk of solidified water. Silva's iteration of the wedge -- an attractive presentation replete with chunky blue cheese dressing, crispy bits of pancetta, cherry tomatoes, toasted almonds, and sour pickled carrot ribbons -- came surprisingly close to converting me, though I would have preferred a different lettuce (romaine, perhaps). The chunky blue cheese dressing tasted homemade (not artificially savory or vinegary, telltale signs of chemical emulsifiers), while the acid from the tomatoes and pickled carrot ribbons cut the creamy richness. It's still not a salad for me, but I would recommend it to any fan of the class wedge. "But what about those burgers?!," you ask. Silva and company grind and hand-form their own patties (a mix of chuck and short rib), bake their own buttery, brioche-like buns from scratch daily, and grill the burgers to order on a live fire. Nine times out of ten (perhaps even 99 times out of 100), a request for "medium-rare" results in a well-done patty, presumably because the burgers are pre-cooked, frozen, and then reheated to order. Fortunately, the kitchen was able to honor my request for a medium-rare/medium patty. The beef was well seasoned and topped with plenty of gooey blue cheese, some of which melted into the meat. The large side of fries were undoubtedly cooked twice, which drove off all remaining moisture and left behind a plate of ultra-crisp, desiccated potatoes. The best part? During happy hour (Mon. through Sat. from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM), all burgers are $7, a far cry from the overpriced $15 resort burger to which I alluded earlier. The quality of service depends largely on the time of day. When the restaurant is busy, expect long stretches of inattentiveness, empty glasses, and plates in need of bussing. If you expect a multi-course meal, prepare to receive your entrée halfway through your appetizer course. If this were a high-end place, I might be less forgiving, but I'm willing to cut the kitchen some slack. After all, the vast majority of customers (mostly golfers and young adults with kids in tow) expect a casual experience, not a three-hour-long degustation. I have much more to share, including my thoughts on the outstanding mud pie, but have once again succumbed to Yelp's arbitrary character limit. Go there and enjoy! read more

Much more than pub food! Loved the service from Ashley. She was very tentative, quick & accurate. I loved her opinion when asked about a dish. We tried just about everything on the menu it seemed. The burgers, steak frites, pork shank, chicken sandwich, and started with fried pickles. Yummy-I loved the dipping sauce & pickles were "lightly" coated!! I'm gonna say the pork shank was the best because it was so unique and such a wonderful surprise. It was so tender you did not even need a knife to cut it. The polenta was also good & I loved the presentation. The burger awesome with onion rings. The chicken burger one of the best I've tasted. The Brussel sprouts to-die-for! Flaky, crunchy & moist. The atmosphere was great. I loved the different levels of dining & the TV's didn't have sound ( loved this) no competition for our conversation. But, loved the videos! Oh man! This place is beautiful inside and out! When you walk inside your eyes either lead to the spacious bar or the unbelievable Hill Country-esque view of outside and the golf course. This is at the La Cantera Resort and Spa, so I'd expect nothing less than this clean, modern Grille as an addition. The staff is very friendly and helpful with their food and drink recommendations. I had lunch, and oh my. Honestly, I could've stuck with appetizers. I started with the Brussels Sprouts with Ginger Soy Glaze and Pancetta. Wow. One bite and I was in veggie heaven. You know how you go to a great restaurant and you know the brussels sprouts are going to be good? Well, I expected them to be just that, but these. These were PHE.NOM.MEN.AL. AND the portion was huge! Pair these with the 254 Mule and you probably have a great snack/small meal for yourself. Next up was a tasting of their burgers and club. I had the All-American Burger and it even had a Grille 254 brand on the bun! So cute! It was everything I like about a classic cheeseburger. The patty, juicy. The bun, toasted and a hint of sweetness and buttery. A melty cheese slice, tomato and lettuce. Can't go wrong with this! Last was dessert. Whoa. The Mud Pie. My dream dessert all the way. Talk about a hidden gem! This spot is perfect for a toasty spring/summer day. The patio gives you a great view of the city and has a nice breeze to it! Will definitely be back as it warms up. The food was very basic, but it was made well! I would say this place is best for a basic bite with a great view. The front gate staff was helpful and giving us directions to the restaurant. So this place just fired on all cylinders. Casual dining with a nice view. Fun space with at TVs and shuffleboard - great if you're coming off the course but excellent for a burger any time . This renamed and under new management golf club house is open to the public and a hidden gem at The Resort at La Cantera. We have been there 10 times in the last two months. Happy hour is from 3-7 six days a week. Well drinks and beer very reasonable. Burgers are $7. Although the menu is limited, we have tried everything on the menu and every item from appetizers to desserts is delicious. Two standouts, the Bleu Burger and the fried cauliflower appetizer. Being retired and living nearby, we often go from between 3-5PM weekdays and there are few customers. We have been there once on a Sunday afternoon expecting a crowd, but only half the tables were occupied. Right across the street from the resort hotel, Grille 254 has magnificent views of the 18th fairway and green. Highly recommended! read more

This was our first visit to this on-site sports bar at La Cantera Resort. It is a great hidden gem at this facility, away from the overcrowded main hotel. I successfully completed the Fahrenheit 254 wing challenge. It is NOT for the faint of heart!! I have, what I consider, a very high tolerance for heat. I can take on the scorpion pepper, but this must have been MUCH more than that... We would go back again but will not do the challenge. You have been warned!! read more

Located inside La Cantera Resort & Spa, this is one of my favorites places for great atmosphere, phenomenal food & drink offerings, oh and don't even get me started with the golf course views. Must have the Brussel Sprouts (yes, I really do mean the Brussel Sprouts!), it is my favorite thing, I can really just eat these for an entree and be fully satisfied.
