I went to Mariposa fully expecting nothing special because who assumes a restaurant inside a department store will impress. I was wrong. This place is an experience. Finding it feels like a scavenger hunt inside Neiman Marcus at La Cantera. If you blink you will miss it. Walking up the escalator with white butterflies floating above already sets the mood. The second floor feels calm and hidden which makes the reveal even better. Once inside the space is bright and peaceful with windows wrapping around the dining room. We were greeted with warm popovers and broth which alone are worth returning for. I ordered the salmon fish tacos with chips pico and salsa. They were excellent. Many places try and fail at fish tacos but these were balanced flavorful and perfectly cooked. My husband ordered the pear and gorgonzola salad with salmon and loved it. The view feels tucked away in nature with trees as the backdrop. Service was warm attentive and polished. We will absolutely be back. This one surprised me in the best way. read more

If you'd like an atmosphere of laid-back luxury, and great food and drinks stop by Mariposa. This restaurant is located in the La Cantera shopping area. It's hidden upstairs in the rear, right corner of Neiman Marcus. The food and service was so top-tier that I went twice during the holiday. There's open seating at the bar which has exceptional service. They have a variety of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks to choose. I had the salmon and bone broth. I must say the bone broth was amazing! And please try their homemade bread with the homemade strawberry butter! If you're in the La Cantera area and want great food, laid-back luxury country them out. I can't wait until the weather warms so I can relax on their patio! read more

We stopped by the Mariposa, after a day of shopping at Neiman. Our server was so nice, I forgot to get her name for the review. I ordered the honey martini with the salmon tacos and a ahi tuna app. Before they bring your order they start you off with a croissant and a side of strawberry fluffed cream cheese along a warm corn tea on the house. The ahi-tuna was well seasoned and the wonton chips were so good we ordered extra to finish the portion. Everything was delicious, I thought the salmon tacos would be bland but to my surprise it was a generous amount of salmon along with cabbage, cilantro and fresh jalapeños. The salmon tacos came 3 in the order with a side of pico de gallo and seasoned tortilla chips. My kiddo got the turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich and it was generous in serving. She opted for truffle fries - soooooo good! Overall, nice view overlooking Fiesta, good ambiance, great service and friendly staff. read more

I have been going to Mariposa with my grandmother, mother and sister for years! We always go to treat ourselves to wonderful food and service before a shopping day at La Cantera!! The broth and popover with the strawberry butter is my most favorite part!!! I always end up getting a half gallon of the consommé to go because of how much I love it!!! The chicken piccata was very good and I definitely recommend trying it!! When we sit outside it's always fun to watch the iron rattler rollercoaster view from the table!! read more

I believe if I was to take count of the times I have visited Mariposa, I've eaten here more than a few times over the years and yet, every time, I am impressed with a new small detail. Overall, the Mariposa experience is a good one. Food is always pretty good and service is always wonderful. I do remember it being more affordable, but I guess that has changed with time. This time around, they served a complementary croissant with a berry butter and a small cup of broth. I had the chicken sandwich with chips and a glass of rose wine. I substituted the chips for truffle fries. All of it, pretty good and in a very comfortable atmosphere. As mentioned before, prices were on the high side, and certainly, not a match for the food. The chicken sandwich came out to $21 dollars. It was originally $17 dollars, but with the fry substitution, it was higher. Something, by the way, the serving staff neglected to mention. So although, I would recommend Mariposa food wise, prices make this less likely to be a frequently visited place for me. read more

Food was good!! If you're in Neiman Marcus it's in the second floor! Lunch price was reasonable if you don't mind paying $25 for a special treat on occasion. Mariposa 12/5/2024: I started Lunch with water and soup of the day (squash); the soup was tasty. I then moved on to the NM Burger. To my surprise I encountered 3 pieces of hard cartilage in the delicious Angus beef. Fortunately, I did not break a tooth. I did receive a chocolate chip cookie to soothe my disappointment. Still, that did nothing for the poor raw meat preparation. I expected the best quality from Neiman Marcus; they failed. read more

I love it here!! The bread and strawberry butter is to DIE for and so is the rest of the food! I've had the fish tacos a few times and they seem to be my favorite. Coming to Mariposa is more than just having lunch, it's an experience. We had a wonderful server, Rose, and she was great. We ordered the prosciutto wrapped stuffed peppers first and they were delicious. My friend got the kale and root vegetable salad and I got the palm hearts and avocado salad. Both were excellent, but the show stoppers are ALWAYS the fresh hot popovers and chicken consommé!!! They brought my friend a scrumptious chocolate torte for her birthday gratis!! So nice of them. Came on a rainy afternoon to meet a friend and was greeted by the hostess and led to the outdoor patio seating. It was rainy so it was very relaxing with the outdoor decor. We were given a puffed up bread with what seemed to be a strawberry butter. I ordered a margarita and it was pretty strong but good. I also got the salmon nicoise which was delicious but overpriced at $28. $18 would be more like it. Truffle fries were good, I love the dip. We also got the cheesecake which was good but didn't enjoy the burnt outside, and the chocolate torte was good but very rich like eating a chocolate truffle right out of a box. Between two people, we got 2 cocktails, one appetizer, two entrees, and two desserts. Total came out to $120. Over all it was good food and great service. But the price is what probably would keep me from another visit here. read more

If you're looking for an elegant and pricey Brunch/lunch place in La Cantera, then Mariposa is your spot! You probably wouldn't know about this place unless you're a regular Neiman Marcus customer or happen to hear about it from someone. It's on the Second floor of Neiman Marcus. Once you come up the escalator, make an immediate right, walk towards the "home/gift" section and there should be signage on the left directing you towards the restaurant. Mariposa has a very modern upscale ambiance. The balcony seating is very nice with views of the hill country and the Superman roll coaster nearby. For the first time, we decided to go for brunch on Saturday during restaurant week. I decided to order from the restaurant week menu so I could have a chance to try many things. I did peek at the regular menu and the average price of entrées range $18-30. The service was very attentive and friendly. They bring out fresh popover bread with strawberry butter and chicken consomme. Both were delicious and delightful precursor to the meal. All of our food was very good and well executed, but nothing to "write home" about. The flavors and food offerings were not anything that you couldn't easily get from another restaurant of the same caliber (or even of a lower caliber). If I come back to dine here it will be mostly for the ambiance and service, not so much for the food. I would definitely recommend Mariposa If you looking a place that offers a more "refined" brunch experience. read more

This is our first time and definitely wouldn't be the last. My sister made reservations for 6 and at the last minute had to change it to 7 they had no problem making the arrangements for us. The server was great and very attentive. The location upstairs inside Neiman Marcus was a little difficult to find but once found it was a great experience. The service was great, the place was super clean, well lit, even the bathroom was exceptionally clean. Now least talk about what matters the most... the food & drinks. There were no complaints. The crab cake was well worth it! The ahi tuna appetizer was delicious, the meatballs are definitely recommended at well. I took a bite of my sisters steak sandwich and it were really good, not dry at all but I would've preferred either a thinner and softer bread. My aunt had the chicken Milanese I didn't get to try it, she did enjoy it and by the looks of it I say get it only if you really like pasta sauce. We will definitely be coming back here for our weekly sisters brunch. read more

You know that rich, refined feeling you get while on a cruise where your dining-ware matches and the table-cloths and waiter's apron is freshly starched? That's what it's like at Mariposa, minus the ocean. Like everybody else said, the consomme and popover with strawberry spread was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my $17 ahi tuna salad, but at that price, it was practically mandatory. Still, they did a great job and you get what you pay for. This place is wonderful. It has a crisp modern atmosphere that says Beverly Hills and treats you differently than normal restaurants found in malls. They serve several small complimentary appetizers before the entree is received and the bar mixes well tested blends. They have a steak (the filet) that explodes in flavor as it is incorporated into a much larger dish of complimenting accents. This is not your typical steak on a plate dish. They also have several exceptional sandwiches. I strongly recommend stopping by for a refined meal on a day of shopping at La Cantera. Important Notes: . They are located upstairs in Neiman Marcus . They only except American Express, Bergdorf Goodman, and the Neiman Marcus credit card, or Cash. . Reservations only for parties of 7 or more. . Ive been to Mariposa a few times now and I am really liking it here. Its a small restaurant, on the 2nd floor of Neiman Marcus never too busy. They have great service & good food. Drinks a bit on the pricy side... but I wouldnt plan on getting my drink on here either way :) You can take your time eating here... you are never rushed... I have had cappuccino & a hot chocolate here...both very good -My favorite is their popovers & strawberry butter of course -My least fave has been the calamari. Goodness what a hidden treasure and VERY delicious food. I will say, I tried many things but things I was impressed by: Soups were not over salted. That is hard to do. I recommend minestrone and tortilla. So clean tasting and delicious! The presentation is absolutely beautiful. This place makes food art! The attentiveness and niceness of the servers. Wish I could see more servers like this place has. Popovers/Yorkshire puddings were to die for. A Yelper said they wasn't impressed with the hollowness with the bread. Don't be surprised, it is a hollow eggy batter. And it's delicious and huge here! I could have eaten another! Their butter was fantastic too! Pasta salad I would recommend as well! We will be coming back and what a treasure we have found. read more

Mariposa is on the second floor of Neiman Marcus, tucked away in the corner. They have outdoor seating under fans and umbrellas so the sun isn't beating down on you if you came on a hot day. The best part is as soon as you are seated. As soon as I sat down the waiter left me with a complimentary sample of their in-house beef broth. Apparently the beef broth is their signature dish.... I can definately see why becausr it was so delicious! You are served pop over bread with strawberry butter. The flaky popovers are wonderful in itself, I could go there and strictly eat a dozen pop overs and call it a day..but that only teased me for the actual main course. I had the shrimp salad and house chardonnay. The salad was a large portion, although the prices may be a liiiiittle more than what I would pay for in a salad. Nonetheless, I love this place and think it's the best in La Cantera. read more

Good spot, located on the second floor of Neiman Marcus. I've been to Mariposa in several other cities, from Dallas to Honolulu, and have to say that the San Antonio location is still my favorite. This particular location is small but has has a great outdoor patio. When you are first seated, the server brings a popover with strawberry butter and a demitasse of chicken broth, which is stellar. I come to Mariposa because it is tucked away on the second floor of Neimans at La Cantera. Very few people know it is up here. It is quiet and I never have to wait for a seat. The staff is attentive and professional. The view and lighting are amazing. You can see the tops of the roller coasters at fiesta texas nearby. The restaurant has outdoor seating but I like the cool interior. The best part of the meal is the very beginning. Humongous, crisp and buttery popovers served with strawberry butter are the highlight of my meal. I love tearing into them and watching the steam rise. A perfect popover should have a hollow center and these definitely do. I wish I could put the strawberry butter in a jar and take it home. It's lightly sweet and not too heavy at all. I could do without the chicken consommé but it's part of the experience. If you are a fan of tea like me, do order it here. They used to serve Mighty Leaf, which I love but they serve another loose leaf brand now that is also incredibly delicious. I highly recommend coming here if only for tea and dessert. But if you are here for food, almost everything is good. I prefer the baked chicken and I love the hamburger. There is better and cheaper food at La Cantera but for me, good company and relaxing atmosphere are incredibly important. Food is about 4 stars (it is a little pricey) but ambience is definitely 5 stars. read more

Mariposa - Chicken broth and bread! Awesome - Sandwiches Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

Very sad situation to walk into a half full dining room and the hostess lets us know (party of 4) it would be a 30 minute wait (four parties ahead) because there was only ONE person in the kitchen. Neiman Marcus is a high end retailer with high end prices, including Mariposa, but with very low end service. It would have been better to just close the restaurant today. The hostess was visibly embarrassed having to let clients know about the delayed service. Never heard back from customer service on this thread either. Why ask for an email and information if there is no response? read more

What the???!! was my reaction when a colleague suggested lunch and walked me into Neiman Marcus....and sure enough after the housewares on the left and the hideous (looks and price!) pant racks is Mariposa! A semi fine dining restaurant in a department store! The place is filled with ladies who lunch and a general Saks crowd. Service is quick, friendly and efficient. We started with a cup of warm broth and a popover (this is complimentary with every meal) which was delightfully perfect, nice chewy crust outside and a very tender moist inside! This thing disappeared in my stomach (and always does) in a second and I of course being greedy asked for another. The waitress looked askance at my gauche behavior, but did bring me another with a smile. The food has been excellent from the well made Cobb salad, a perfectly cooked salmon with tender-crisp sauteed asparagus spears, to a refined steak medallion with a savory wine reduction. Oh and god help you at your naive thought that one order of the cookies will be enough! These things are crazy good and after eating 3 orders of them, you realize that at this point with the cookie bloat you are willing to shell out money for hideously flowery stretchy pants to give you some comfort as you waddle towards your car! read more

We popped into Mariposa during Restaurant Week, service was incredible but the food didn't have a "wow" factor. First of all, who knew there was a restaurant in Neiman(2nd floor)? The interior is breathtaking with blue glass, a beautiful bar, a posh balcony, and white linens. We were quickly greeted with a smile by a lovely hostess who sat us right away. We showed up right at 11am when it was still empty, the place was quite full by 11:30. Oscar, our server, introduced himself and brought us a cup of broth and a hot popover muffin with strawberry butter, you guys, you MUST go for the muffins and butter, WOW! The broth took me back to a memorable turkey bone soup I had in the past, I treasured every sip! We started with a tortilla soup and a romaine and arugula salad. The soup was fantastic and I wanted to kick myself for not ordering it, the broth alone had me savoring the only bite my friend allowed me to steal. My salad was on the mushy side but I really enjoyed the artichoke element. My ginger-chili glazed salmon over black quinoa and friend's lemon chicken paillard were underwhelming and I could easily whip up something like this at home. Desert was alright, the NM chocolate chip cookie box was a cute idea but the cookies were brought out cold in a box, our server was happy to warm them up for us. We were told that the cookie box would come with their recipe but ours didn't (boo). Dino's cream and lace cake looked delicious but my friend and I could only tolerate a bite, too much going on. I had the chance to look over their lunch menu and most items are pretty expensive but it's perfect for a girls lunch (like Danielle T. said). Oscar was an absolute joy to have as our server, everything was done with care and he always kept a close eye on our table. I would love to return to try other items on their menu, the popover muffins and broth are all I've been thinking of lately. Yelpers, treat yourself in discovering what Mariposa has to offer! read more

Mariposa is located inside Neiman Marcus, so from the moment you enter you are surrounded by beautiful things. Vibrant paintings on the walls, tempting shoes and goodies, line the way. Take the elevator upstairs to the second floor, and as the doors open you step into Mariposa: A cool, crisp retreat from the blazing Texas sun. The hostess was nice enough; however, looked at us with disdain upon viewing our casual attire. It was a little upscale older wasp kind of scene if you see where I'm going with this. None the less, were seated and served in a timely fashion. We first received a small espresso sized cup of chicken broth as an appetizer I suppose. It was fantastic, the perfect roast chicken flavor...oh it was heavenly. Next came bread with a strawberry butter mixture. The bread was really more of a shell, as opposed to a roll, as there was no fluff inside. Still tasty. I ordered the Mediterranean veggie wrap artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, spinach, warm Gorgonzola, and a tangy sauce all wrapped up in a tomato flavored tortilla. A side of golden raisins, green apples, cranberries, red onion, and celery in a sweet vinaigrette which heightened the flavors of the veggies when added to the wrap. Freshly made garlic herb potato chips were the other side and they were equally scrumptious. My companions had enough food to take a little home; however, I practically licked the crumbs off my plate :) Service...that's where they lose a star. Our waiter was either new or had some severe social anxiety and stumbled into the wrong job. When he initially approached our table the first words out of his mouth (before anyone had spoken) were, "I'm sorry." Huh?!?!? I was instantly confused. He floundered in explaining things to us and didn't really know too much about the menu. Also, they do not accept Visa or MasterCard. They will only take American Express, their store credit card, cash, or a personal check. Interesting. All in all, this was a very nice dining experience, and I would definitely go back again. read more

Came to Mariposa without much expectations since I wasn't really expecting much from a restaurant inside a department store. The restaurant is on the 2nd story and is pretty hidden within the store, its not something you would just happen to come across unless you're walking around aimlessly. Came for lunch on a Saturday for a table of 7 and got seated within a few minutes. The restaurant has lots of natural light and is set in a very comfortable setting. Our waiter, Javier, was very patient with us. Do get: Tuna tartare appetizer - they only give a tiny cup of wonton strips so ask for more crab cake more popovers and strawberry butter! Good: Fish tacos Skip: Grilled steak and onions sandwich - not a bad dish but nothing special about it. read more

There are two things most memorable about Mariposa; the service & the fries. Both of these things can take a restaurant very far. Having a waitstaff that is polite, timely & considerate makes you feel at ease & more than once has it been offered to bring a fresh to go tea, drink & even soup, to replace a half finished version.. I love good service & I love giving 20%+ tip and feeling like the waiter deserved it. Second amazing aspect is the fries. They are thin cut straw fries in light oil with rosemary and pepper. The fries are also served with a creamy olive dipping sauce. These fries are so tasty, a real treat & served with all sandwiches at no extra cost. Mariposa is inside Nordstroms on the second floor, it does not have a bathroom inside but there is one on same level near customer service. I have had 2 sandwiches but other than the fries being amazing, the sandwich itself didn't come together the way it should. I think it would go a long way if they were to melt some of the cheese. The salads are crisp, fresh & full of flavor. The soups are also rich and delightful. This Is a good retreat if you want to escape some of the busier restaurants at La Cantera & you won't miss out on flavor. read more
