An old buddy wanted to meet up for lunch, so I took him down to Smash'd, and it did not disappoint. This little Bar & Grill might fly under the radar, but it delivers big flavor. They've got a solid lineup of burgers on the menu, but I was there for one thing, their Philly cheesesteaks. We both ordered the fully loaded version with fajita peppers and a side of crispy tots. The sandwich was stacked, flavorful, and cooked just right, easily one of the better cheesesteaks you'll find around here. I've had this place bookmarked a while. It's on my "best burgers in SAT" list. Going in the door, let me just tell you: don't bother parking right across the street. Yeah, okay, it's convenient, but by the time you pay to park (minimum of four hours, which pissed me off) and then have your tiny, overpriced burger...you gonna be mad. Do yourself a favor and fight for street parking. I walked up to the outside counter Saturday night about 7:20. Never been here. The ladies behind the counter obviously could NOT have cared less. No nice welcome...no pleasantries. Nothing said. I spoke first, asking about seating availability inside (it was chilly), and they were rude - looked at me like I was from outer space and said they didn't know. They said they didn't know in that "yeah, good luck with that...it's Saturday at 7, dumbass" kinda way. How could you not know? And if you truly didn't know, which one of them should have gone to check for me. So I went and checked myself. Turns out: plenty of seating. Returned to the chilly duo and placed my order. Ordered the Wake and Bacon burger. I also ordered a Topo Chico, which was also met with a blank "are you from this planet?" stare. How do you not have Topo Chico or something similar !? The burger was just okay. Tiny, but tasty. Fries were so salty and over-seasoned as to be almost inedible. No one checked on me after bringing me my burger. Not one time. First time here and was not disappointed. We sat outside which was calm and not terribly busy. We dealt with flies and then found out after we were done that they have those table top spinning things that deter flies so we will use that next time. Service was quick and friendly. We got smash burgers of course which were great. We heard a few people mention the wings and my wife said a guy was slurping on the sauce from his so I went and ordered some with the hot honey glaze and the spice buffalo. The wings were great. Delicious! We went and it happened to be happy hour which is daily 5 til 7 pm. The apps are half off and $2 off cocktails. The smash's burgers are very unique and great, with a side of seasoned fries. Made with Texas Wagyu beef. They had chicken sandwiches also that I'll try next time. Super cute place. Lots of outdoor seating and bonus! A stray kitty showed up, begging for leftovers. He was handsome and kind. We got the asada fries, based on the cashier's advice. Not a bad choice. They had a very lime-y taste. I think it was the fries themselves, hubby said it was the avocado. My husband got the plain jane burger... mustard, homemade pickles, cheese and a sauce, also based on the cashier's advice (against the Philly). For me, the burger was too plain. The Smash'd burger is perfect. Mustard, pickle, cheese and a big patty on a sourdough bun. The seasoned fries are cooked right but I didn't like the hint of sweetness in the seasoning. Went in on Sunday night- it was a great place to catch the football game. Plenty of seating and TVs around to be comfortable. The three of us loved the burger selections. We each got our burger pick cut in 3rds so we can share and try each others burger. The service was great. He answered all our questions and made sure we were comfortable with our orders. In town for the weekend. Visiting the are and friends from Oklahoma City... hit this place up after a trip to kids amusement park. We had a short drive here found parking. Staff joked with us as I was here in my KC Chiefs gear. All in all this choice of a food spot -Great decision! Great comfortable atmosphere. Bathrooms were clean! If I could rate 0 stars I would. My bf who was excited about these burgers we stopped at 830ish. We were offered water and menus then as we watched our sever accomdate other people for 15 mins. Realized they might be racist two young woman white and woman of color. as a woman of color Mexican black as well as the bartender/ servers whatever should be. as the doors opened to the kitchen we see the chef looked all sweaty and really unhygienic. Really nice burger spot by Broadway East area just north of the Pearl. We tried the fajita burger bc it says that's their award winner and the Hawaiian bc we love grilled pineapple. Both burgers were unique and full of flavor! Nothing bland here. The onion rings were really crispy and the sweet potato fries were delicious. Finally got a chance to try Smash'd and let me tell you..it was absolutely satisfying and super good. Customer Service A+, The vibes A+ and the Food definitely an A+. We ordered the classic burger and fries but one fry was substituted for Sweet Potato Fries. We wanted to see which fry was the best and honestly they both are great, hard to choose one over the other so I guess it depends on what mood you're in. The buns on the burgers were super soft, just like I like it and though the burger looks small it's super filling and it comes stacked but I'm a picky eater so I removed some things BUT I still enjoyed everything. You have the choice to sit inside or outside but heads up... The inside does get crowded because it is a bit small so keep that in mind. They also have a bar you can also sit at as well, so if you want that special juice have at it lol. There's so much I wanted to try but there's always next time.
