FIRST TIME VISIT! Woohoo! Been looking for chili cheese fries and happened upon a review for this place boasting fries with a homemade chili so we HAD TO stop in tonight. THE LOCATION: on the very end of a string of businesses in a strip mall that I've never been in before, so that was cool. Lots of parking, that'll never be an issue. And right off the 410. THE MENU: Burgers, dogs, Mexi-style munchies and a variety of frozen dessert-type items like shakes, frozen fruit concoctions and Italian ice. THE STAFF: I wasn't overwhelmed with a warm welcome and smiles, at least from the guys. Lol! They should really work on that. There was a sweet gal who ran out our food orders and she was great. THE FOOD: I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich deluxe with tots and a sweet tea. The grilled chicken was juicy and cooked well and the bun was lovely, slightly sweet and toasted. Overall, the sandwich could've used more flavor, like a creamy bbq spread and cheddar instead of the "Swiss" cheese that tasted more like American cheese. But overall, 7/10. The tots were extra crispy and the guy who took my order didn't take heed to my request for ranch. I was too lazy to get up again so I settled for ketchup. The sweet tea was nicely sweet and fresh, I'll be sipping this in my dreams. The hubby ordered the bacon cheeseburger with chili cheese fries and an Oreo cookie shake. The burger looked good and he ate it quick, so there's that. This guy can EAT so it surprised us both when he slowed down fast after eating that burger. Lol! He kept saying how filling it was, but then he also killed a large shake before the food arrived, so there's that. He ate most of his chili cheese fries, leaving me a few bites to sample. Not bad. I order a Coco Haven frozen dessert to go and omg is this thing delightful! Vanilla ice cream and coconut Italian ice (?) with a blue snow cone-like syrup drizzled throughout. I loved the texture of what I believed to be Italian ice. Smooth and flaky, a perfect icy dessert. OVERALL: decent eatery, the hubby said we can go back (LOL!) Shockerrrrr! But I recommend the staff tries harder to make customers feel welcomed and comfortable. The next visit will be telling. read more

Walk up order food and the they call your name. Split an order of fries and they nicely put them on each plate. Service was fast and friendly. Food arrived hot the only thing that I didn't like was that the cheese was not melted. Plenty of searing available. Clean table available. Macho burger was good with a fried egg made to order. read more

How have I forgotten this place?! So happy to revisit after a hiatus, cuz their burgers are deelish! Easy, casual order up at counter, seat yourself and menu is posted above. They serve a variety of burgers, sandwiches, wings, dogs, desserts, and meals include either a side of tots, fries, cucumbers with chamoy and lucas, or corn in a cup. Other sides are available as well. This trip since we craved for burgers, ordered: Bistro burger- wonderfully seasoned and cooked, served on sourdough, with avocado, grilled onions and mushrooms, mayo. One thing that should be added, the works, I felt it would be even better with the addition of lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. I ordered the cucumbers sans chamoy and lucas. I appreciate simple veggies. Mexican burger- excellent! Juicy burger with cheese, jalapenos, pico de gallo, bacon and the works. The tater tots had a nice and crispy outer texture as it should. Overall- very good. Tasty, reasonable, clean, and great service. We'll have to make sure to come back sooner! read more

They have keto buns!!! But it's hit and miss, i've gone a handful of times where they didn't have them or times where the bun is extremely small. But they do lettuce wrapped, still not the same though. The service is always great since I have the extra modifications. The ambiance is nice, we are able to hear each other speak even though there are tv's playing. I'm a sucker for their bistro burger and the cucumber cup as a side. read more

Great burgers, fries and service. I'm not giving 5 stars because the fry portion is a bit small and they use vegetable oil rather than tallow to fry them. I also don't like that they put mayo on the burgers unless you ask them not to. Mayo has no business anywhere near a burger joint in Texas. The price is good. The service was good. The food came out in a timely manner, but the burgers were on the dry side, not a lot of flavor.

Went for lunch and the service was great, cashier was friendly. It is a little pricey however the portions are great. We paid $46 for a cheeseburger, fries medium drink, Frito pie burger with chili cheese tots and a medium drink, and a cheeseburger kids meal. The wait for our food to be ready did take a little while. Although the burgers are thick they could have had more flavor. The area is cute however the inside is a little small but there is additional seating at an outside patio. They also offer lots of sweets as well. read more

I LOVE THE SHACK. The Dorinachos with beef is just 10/10! Super delicious and loaded with that yummy cheesy beef! The service was great! I didn't know that you could add beef to the Dorinachos but the lady taking our order made a great suggestion and she was very nice! The chili cheese dog is also loaded and yummy! We get it everytime and it never disappoints! They have lots of indoor seating and its super casual. They have a great self service area. I also want to mention that their shakes are amazing! When I first arrived here in San Antonio I tried this place. I got the Bistro Burger. The burger was pretty good. Juicy, delicious, lots of flavor. Service was good. I was there early so not too many people. Ambiance was good, not too loud or anything. I also got a Mango Chamoy Slushie which was very good, best I ever had. Actually haven't had one before then. This place is amazing!!! I'm upset at myself for not trying it sooner. From the bread to the seasonings everything is delicious. The fries were crunchy and seasoned to perfection they needed no ketchup. Prices were affordable given the portions. Went around lunch time and this place was super busy and they still managed to get my order out in a timely manner. Music was great and seating areas were nice and cozy. They even had outdoor seating. They offer a good variety of hot sauces also. I highly recommend this place and will surely be back! read more

Food: bomb.com. Good flavor, juicy burgers, not dry at all. My son got a hot dog, and hubby got a chili cheese dog. No complaints. Milkshakes are delicious and a nice size, kids couldn't finish it. I always enjoy the burgers at the Shake but like many I have a couple of things I get all the time. Everything I've had is really good and I need to branch out from my normal orders. Tonight I did manage to order something new for me. I got the Mexican Burger 1/2 Lb with pica de gallo, bacon, jalapeño, Swiss cheese, and the works. You select what you want on your burger from a list and it includes a side. There are plenty of sides to pick from. I had Fries, No Jalapenos, No Ketchup,No Mustard, with lettuce, mayonnaise .Cut In Half and a pink center medium to rare burger. It was just as I requested. Now these are juicy burgers so have your napkins ready. I just love what they season the fries with. Sorry for the not as good photos but I ate my fries quickly and my burger kept sliding off the bun. So come and try the food...they have a large variety of food types, shakes, desserts etc. read more

Fast service, we got our food quick. Was a lot of people there was hard to find seating but they do have an outdoor area to sit also. Upon entering, the atmosphere was great, the smell was great, and very well cleaned. The table that we used was sticky but that was on us, we could've easily moved to a new one. The menu was very well explained and straightforward. My family and I spent at about 50$ total. It's been a while since I've been to The Shack since my last review. We went here for a family meal and we have to say it he food came out delicious! I had ordered Crunch Chili Cheese Dog and chili cheese fries. The crunch dog was everything and more some! Crunchy. Delicious chili. Cheesy. Thick hot dog. All such a texture delight and great combination to master the perfect hot dog craving for me! The chili cheese fries came out hot too and the chili was perfecto! The fries was covered in chili and cheese yet still crunchy! We also ordered the Oreos churros and strawberry funnel cake and it was delicious! Our party of 6 was happy! The watermelon aqua Fresca according to the employee said it's made fresh to order. I am not sure if they added sugar to it but it was overwhelmingly sweet. It was good but definitely on the sweeter side for those with a sweet tooth. I feel from my last review which was long ago, the food definitely got better. On our way back home from Seaworld we were in the mood for a burger, so we came across The Shack in our search, so we thought we'd try it out. The images on Yelp! looked very inviting. The setup was a little crowded and cramped, with there being only a few steps from the door to the line to order food and there being about 12 tables (some of which had been pushed together to accomodate two tables of eight people, near the back of the restaurant). Also, my first impression was that they are super, super busy or just don't care that they have dirty tables. The place was almost full, with only one four seat table available, but it had not been bussed. We waited a few minutes to see if the two workers walking by would clean it, but I wound up having to clean it for our party of four. The photos on the wall, in the line, were helpful to get an idea of what some to the specialty items would look like and the menu provided enough information to where we didn't have to guess what was included on our burgers. The staff was on point and the pricing was pretty good for ther size and quality of the burgers. As you can tell by the photos, the burgers were huge (three of is got burgers...I got a double)! They were also pretty tasty, especailly with them being made with Angus beef. My only gripe is that the meat tasted like it was frozen, prior to being on the grill. Other than that, the veggies seemed fresh and the cheese was melted, perfectly. The Dorinachos (Dorito Nachos with corn, feta cheese, etc. was said to be good, too. Great burgers in a strip mall. So the inside isn't spacious and you have to go to the counter to pick up your food leaving the anxiety that your seat will be taken. They do have a good sized patio. This isn't a fast food burger joint, they make each order fresh. You will wait a bit to get your food but the taste is worth it. So in comparison to the original Shack it's nothing like it . Go try the original location first . Much much better . They also have honey mustard available as a condiment and I asked for it here and they tried to charge me !! BOOOOO The food wasn't bad but other location definitely better . I will drive further to go to other one next time in town . Ambiance was ok very small inside fits about 30 - 40 people . Yes, recommend The Shack. Small burger joint, serving good food. Many offerings on the menu, lots of options on sandwiches, sides, and drinks. Good sized burger, did not need a double. Seasoned and cooked well. Great with bacon and egg on it. Good fries, hot and fresh, even better with chili cheese (beans and all). Tasty mango drink. We were not able to finish the meals served; wife said she'll ask for a kid's burger next time. The restaurant is a bit small on the inside, but some tables outside. It's stark and spartan, but clean and comfortable. Want to go back to try the cheesesteaks or a hot dog. Lots of dog options but not a Chicago version available. Folks there friendly and busy. Better be starving and have your cholesterol tested before ordering one of these bad boys: bring along a bottle of blood thinners and statin drugs. Y'all! This place has the BEST burgers in San Antonio! And I mean the best I have ever had in the 10 years we lived here! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Philly also! My only regret is not finding this place sooner! It is worth the drive from anywhere in SA, I promise! Hadn't been here since they moved locations from Babcock several years ago. The food was sooo good, my husband and I loved it! The staff were friendly, we loved the chill environment and the communication about the wait. The line was non stop but they communicated there would be a 30 min wait for the food, and they obliterated the line with ease! Definitely will be back again. read more
