FIRST TIME VISIT! Woohoo! Been looking for chili cheese fries and happened upon a review for this place boasting fries with a homemade chili so we HAD TO stop in tonight. THE LOCATION: on the very end of a string of businesses in a strip mall that I've never been in before, so that was cool. Lots of parking, that'll never be an issue. And right off the 410. THE MENU: Burgers, dogs, Mexi-style munchies and a variety of frozen dessert-type items like shakes, frozen fruit concoctions and Italian ice. THE STAFF: I wasn't overwhelmed with a warm welcome and smiles, at least from the guys. Lol! They should really work on that. There was a sweet gal who ran out our food orders and she was great. THE FOOD: I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich deluxe with tots and a sweet tea. The grilled chicken was juicy and cooked well and the bun was lovely, slightly sweet and toasted. Overall, the sandwich could've used more flavor, like a creamy bbq spread and cheddar instead of the "Swiss" cheese that tasted more like American cheese. But overall, 7/10. The tots were extra crispy and the guy who took my order didn't take heed to my request for ranch. I was too lazy to get up again so I settled for ketchup. The sweet tea was nicely sweet and fresh, I'll be sipping this in my dreams. The hubby ordered the bacon cheeseburger with chili cheese fries and an Oreo cookie shake. The burger looked good and he ate it quick, so there's that. This guy can EAT so it surprised us both when he slowed down fast after eating that burger. Lol! He kept saying how filling it was, but then he also killed a large shake before the food arrived, so there's that. He ate most of his chili cheese fries, leaving me a few bites to sample. Not bad. I order a Coco Haven frozen dessert to go and omg is this thing delightful! Vanilla ice cream and coconut Italian ice (?) with a blue snow cone-like syrup drizzled throughout. I loved the texture of what I believed to be Italian ice. Smooth and flaky, a perfect icy dessert. OVERALL: decent eatery, the hubby said we can go back (LOL!) Shockerrrrr! They serve a variety of burgers, sandwiches, wings, dogs, desserts, and meals include either a side of tots, fries, cucumbers with chamoy and lucas, or corn in a cup. Other sides are available as well. This trip since we craved for burgers, ordered: Bistro burger- wonderfully seasoned and cooked, served on sourdough, with avocado, grilled onions and mushrooms, mayo. One thing that should be added, the works, I felt it would be even better with the addition of lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. I ordered the cucumbers sans chamoy and lucas. I appreciate simple veggies. Mexican burger- excellent! Juicy burger with cheese, jalapenos, pico de gallo, bacon and the works. The tater tots had a nice and crispy outer texture as it should. I also don't like that they put mayo on the burgers unless you ask them not to. Mayo has no business anywhere near a burger joint in Texas. Went for lunch and the service was great, cashier was friendly. It is a little pricey however the portions are great. We paid $46 for a cheeseburger, fries medium drink, Frito pie burger with chili cheese tots and a medium drink, and a cheeseburger kids meal. I LOVE THE SHACK. The Dorinachos with beef is just 10/10! Super delicious and loaded with that yummy cheesy beef! The service was great! I didn't know that you could add beef to the Dorinachos but the lady taking our order made a great suggestion and she was very nice! The chili cheese dog is also loaded and yummy! We get it everytime and it never disappoints! They have lots of indoor seating and its super casual. They have a great self service area. I also want to mention that their shakes are amazing! When I first arrived here in San Antonio I tried this place. I got the Bistro Burger. The burger was pretty good. Juicy, delicious, lots of flavor. Service was good. I was there early so not too many people. Ambiance was good, not too loud or anything. I also got a Mango Chamoy Slushie which was very good, best I ever had. Actually haven't had one before then. This place is amazing!!! I'm upset at myself for not trying it sooner. From the bread to the seasonings everything is delicious. The fries were crunchy and seasoned to perfection they needed no ketchup. Prices were affordable given the portions. Went around lunch time and this place was super busy and they still managed to get my order out in a timely manner. Music was great and seating areas were nice and cozy. Now these are juicy burgers so have your napkins ready. I just love what they season the fries with. Upon entering, the atmosphere was great, the smell was great, and very well cleaned. The table that we used was sticky but that was on us, we could've easily moved to a new one. All such a texture delight and great combination to master the perfect hot dog craving for me! The chili cheese fries came out hot too and the chili was perfecto! The fries was covered in chili and cheese yet still crunchy! We also ordered the Oreos churros and strawberry funnel cake and it was delicious! Our party of 6 was happy! The watermelon aqua Fresca according to the employee said it's made fresh to order. I am not sure if they added sugar to it but it was overwhelmingly sweet. On our way back home from Seaworld we were in the mood for a burger, so we came across The Shack in our search, so we thought we'd try it out. The images on Yelp! looked very inviting. The setup was a little crowded and cramped, with there being only a few steps from the door to the line to order food and there being about 12 tables (some of which had been pushed together to accomodate two tables of eight people, near the back of the restaurant). Also, my first impression was that they are super, super busy or just don't care that they have dirty tables. The place was almost full, with only one four seat table available, but it had not been bussed. We waited a few minutes to see if the two workers walking by would clean it, but I wound up having to clean it for our party of four. The photos on the wall, in the line, were helpful to get an idea of what some to the specialty items would look like and the menu provided enough information to where we didn't have to guess what was included on our burgers. The staff was on point and the pricing was pretty good for ther size and quality of the burgers. As you can tell by the photos, the burgers were huge (three of is got burgers...I got a double)! They were also pretty tasty, especailly with them being made with Angus beef. My only gripe is that the meat tasted like it was frozen, prior to being on the grill. Other than that, the veggies seemed fresh and the cheese was melted, perfectly. The Dorinachos (Dorito Nachos with corn, feta cheese, etc. was said to be good, too. So in comparison to the original Shack it's nothing like it . Go try the original location first . Much much better .
