29 Jun 2026 This is a review of the karaoke show that happens on Mondays from 7 - 11 pm. It's hosted by Joe E. Karaoke. I know him from a couple of shows I attended at Southtown 101 a couple of years ago. This is weird. A bunch of people were there, mostly families with young children. It is advertised as family karaoke. The bar has a sign stating that there are no minors after 9pm allowed. The families all seem to know each other. It is almost cult-like. A lot of the kids sang and it was cute. By 9:15pm, all the kids and their families were gone. About six of our adults were left. Mondo bizarro. I got to sing four songs so I'm not complaining. I did remark to one of the remaining adults that this was cult-like. He said yes, an Alamo Heights cult. Ahhhh... Creepy, but fun. My Pacificos were $7 each, a Coke was $2.77. Food truck food is offered. Lots of choices for nibbles. Give them a try. read more

The service left a lot to be desired. We were there for a late lunch so maybe we caught a between shifts... The ambiance is exactly what you'd expect for a kind of seedy but welcoming bar (if that makes sense). The food was good. Asian chicken slider was the best. Had a great flavor and was a big tender. The brisket quesadilla was okay - the brisket wasn't as flavorful as I would like and the cheese wasn't fully melted. The wings were good, but I still can't rationalize $12 for 6 tiny wings... but again good flavor and well cooked. And the fries were solid - crispy and hot and well seasoned. This review is for all the parents out there! If you are looking for a place with delicious food, refreshing drinks and a playground for your kiddo to run around The Pigpen is the place for you! I recently visited The Pigpen with some friends to watch a soccer game. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, with plenty of TV screens all over the restaurant so you don't miss your favorite game. Their outdoor area has a really nice size playground for the little ones, and they have numerous fans and shaded spots all over to keep you cool as much as possible. They have a full bar with anything you can imagine, and plenty of non-alocholic options for those of us who don't drink. We weren't super hungry so I decided to just order a few items from their menu that we could snack on. Their pretzel was probably the best pretzel we've ever had (like ever, I am not kidding). The bread was super soft and it was actually semi-sweet which blended perfectly with the salt on top. Then I order their chicken wings and let me tell you, those wings were fire. I have no idea how they season them, but they taste heavenly. I also order a quesadilla with fries for my kid, and he devoured it in seconds. I got to try his fries and they were equally delicious. Frankly, I was expecting your regular bar food, but I was so wrong. One last thing, please keep in mind that since they are a bar, kids are not allowed after 9pm. Relaxed environment. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. No outdoor table service. Grab a menu and order at the bar. LIMITED gluten free options. Planned on a shrimp taco. We went on Sunday and they have a limited brunch menu (no shrimp taco). I choose a veggie omelet. Requested no onions and it was filled with them so this may be something premade that they just heat up, however It was very good! The potato wedges are breaded. Great food and atmosphere, I didn't like the initial drink I got and the manager was an angel about it and let me sub it out (thank you again so so much) nachos were great, chicken strips and tots were super delish as well. A few weeks back the Pigpen held an online contest where they picked someone at random to win a brunch with a buffet.. Mind you, I never win anything. Even if there was a contest and there was only one contestant I would still lose. But sometimes the stars align and we can forgo our trusty Rabbit's Foot. Needless to say we won a brunch buffet for two. Since it was a special seasonal buffet they offered more food items than usual. Before I continue we came here after they reopened after a long hiatus, a few years back. We had a great experience then and the brunch day event was no exception. One thing we encountered upon coming here was a difficulty finding parking. I thought on an early Sunday morning the place would be a brisk audience. Thus freeing appropriate parking space. Wrong. The place was teeming with patrons. And seating was very limited. We found a spot at the bar counter. We showed the bartender our confirmation information and were given two hand stamps with styrofoam plates. On one side to the other was wall to wall of various food items. There was: potatoes, eggs, Silver Dollar pancakes, biscuits and a coffee station. Accompanying this were: turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade Cranberry sauce etc. All in chafing pans. In addition there was a coffee-drink station. Not to be outdone there was an omelet station with chefs making plates as you ordered them.. I believe the buffet is $22 ish something bucks but I think it is well worth it. Lastly I'm not a soup person but I was peer pressured into trying a soup with pumpkin seeds and feta cheese. It was the most unique thing I have tried this year. It was creamy, thick and rich. In the future they should add this item on a Winter menu. I really like the vibe of this place. It is ultra laid back. I enjoyed the house band playing Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville" but I wasn't wasting away. After a couple of plates and drinks later we decided to high tail out of there. The Pigpen is a great place to bring your family, friends or a date. The service is great and the food is equal to that. Next time we come it will be to sit at the patio, if at all possible. And the next time I'm requesting some Steely Dan. "Peg" anyone? read more

We walked to this place from another business down the street, and the BBQ restaurant and the Meat Market are the easiest to spot from the street, this place is directly behind both of them. So it was a little confusing getting to it. We walked in and first sat at the long tables they have inside, which is more so the bar area I'm assuming since we didn't get any service. Was kind of disappointed that we were given the cold shoulder and given no direction, as 2 girls walking in looking confused you'd think someone would help. We decided to go to the outside of the restaurant since it was a nice day and were greeted quickly and told what to do. The outdoor patio area is very cute, shaded well. There was a little play set for kids too. Now for the food, I can confidently say the pictures did NOT disappoint when it came to the brisket nachos. Our eyes were bigger than our tummy. read more

Weekend brunch for parents as they can sit back and relax and watch the little ones run around on the playset. The food is solid and they have good choices for the little ones as well. The ordering is at the bar, but the service overall was solid as well. Parking can be a bit of a pain since the lot is small, but there is plenty of street parking very close. Highly recommend getting the wings as they are really good, as are the fries. read more

When a bartender is unwilling to explain the drink menu, it's a red flag. I get it is their everyday, but this is not mine. Taking time to explain and even brag about your bar shouldn't feel like a chore to a customer. Food was good! Some things are smaller portions than expected but flavor is good. Family drove in from Dallas and arrived about 945 after reading about the food here on Yelp. Traveling with my 16 year old daughter and wife, hungry and we were looking forward to brisket grilled cheese. However when we walked in the bartender was immediately rude to us and another employee looked up from her phone and then back down again ignoring us. The bartender very rudely said no minors after 9 pm. It would have been nice to read this on Yelp before we got in the car and drove over. We told her we were from out of town. The bartender could have been courteous enough to perhaps think that maybe we were not from here and didn't know. Due to the very rude interaction. We will never forget back again even during kid friendly hours. The place also had a semi-moldy/musty smell. We ended up going to Applebees. read more

I've got to give the team at Pigpen a great big pat on the back and "thank you!" A week before Easter I made reservations for 10 people on Easter Sunday afternoon, and all looked good. Day before Easter I get a call from Pigpen telling me they had only planned on being open for Sunday brunch on that day. They understood that I had reservations though, and said not to worry, they were going to stay open just for us. They didn't have to do that. Food was great. Service was fine. This place was a pleasant surprise. Stopped by around noon on a Sunday for the brunch. Kids were able to eat free that day with a paid adult ticket. The food was soooooo good. I can't wait to go back. Bartenders were great, had a live band, and the kitchen was bringing fresh food out constantly for the brunch buffet. Stars of the buffet- fried catfish and brisket. Delicious! Buffet was amazing, so many southern options and also includes Texas shaped waffles, biscuits, banana pudding, made to order omelets and desserts. A place that's more than The Smoke Shack's neighbor. The Pigpen provides a spacious outdoor seating area complete with a kid's playground. The food though! The brisket grilled cheese is to die for. Super rich, tender and flavorful paired with yummy thin cut fries. The brisket nachos were equally delicious topped with everything but the kitchen sink. The fried mushrooms, pickles and jalapeños (nuts and bolts) however, were super salty. The breading has great potential, but I was unfortunately not able to eat them due to the amount of saltiness. This is a great place to sit and have a drink or two. We were full from BBQ next door so couldn't try the food options, but enjoyed a nice late afternoon into early evening here. It's pet and kid friendly as well. Only "complaint" (and it's minor) is that there could be some variety in music choices, at least as evidenced by our visit--every song was either by Zach Bryan or someone who sounded like him with nary a female artist represented. read more

Really enjoyed the nachos and it was plenty for two and a toddler. The brisket Bloody Mary was worth it but had to add some spice to mine (Tabasco) because I like mine spicy. Overall a good atmosphere and good for kids since they have a playground. One thing I don't recommend is letting little under 4-5 playing on it because of the large gaps in the ladder. I've gone a few times over the past year for their nacho special on Mondays along with a beer. They've always been pretty good. Today I drove down there just because I was craving their nachos. I got there at 3pm when they open. I ordered a draft beer which was nice a cold today. When I got my nachos, I noticed the cheese was barely lukewarm. I ate some of them but did not enjoy them. I was pretty disappointed. I didn't want to say anything while there. I didn't want to take a chance sending them back and maybe having the cook or waitress spit in my food. Friend and I came on a Sunday to hang out a bit. Once you arrive, you find your own spot to sit and order food/drinks at the bar. We ordered nachos, a taco, and a cheeseburger. The food came out fairly quick and tasted ok, but better than a lot of other bar food we have had. For the coke I ordered, they fill the cup of ice, and you basically share a can of soda with the next person, not a fan of that. For that price, they should just give you a can of coke with a cup of ice instead. When we went to close our tab, the bartender was nowhere to be found, so we had to ask the busser to find them. The best thing about Pigpen was the pretzel. Nachos were ok, but the cheese was bland. There was nothing great about it, but it wasn't terrible. It was ok! A local band called The Frio Trio played inside the establishment and there's an outdoor bar/playscape that is dog friendly. After another Thursday round of golf at Brackenridge, our group was wanting munchers and beverages...the consensus? The Pigpen! This was my first visit to this neighborhood establishment, my friends telling I would enjoy. The Pigpen is found on Broadway, with somewhat limited parking for the patrons. The physical plant is ...basic...perhaps somewhat shopworn. But, read on friends!! Entering, one notices posters and Americana dressing the walls, a bandstand right of entry, (no live music on this afternoon visit), tables facing, and a bar left. One finds additional seating left of the bar, exiting the doorway to open air seating, tables/chairs and rectangular tables. Patio umbrellas protect most of the tables from our Texas sun, not really necessary on this crisp afternoon. Looking back to the indoor restaurant area, one finds another fully stocked bar. Back of the patio area is an additional structure, I soon learned was the kitchen proper. And right of the patio area, there are two kids slides, happily in use by 3 or 4 "ankle biters". My impression was of a true neighborhood establishment, patrons entering greeting friends, some with kids in tow. My friends enjoyed a brew, I chose my favorite: the Old Fashioned. I watched the bartender, a fellow of very good nature, as he worked his magic over my choice. No mixers here!. He ground the sugar cube, sliced a bit of orange peel, flamed it (alas, no smoker here), and presented the beverage with the proper large cube of ice. The libation was perfect! Kudos Mr. Bartender. Munchers for the group: shrimp tacos, pulled pork tacos, and a juicy cheeseburger sided with fried okra. Everyone was pleased with the offerings! We passed the time in conversation, enjoying our beverages, the environment filled with the cavorting laughter of the children on the mentioned slides. So, my overall impression? Definitely recommend the PigPen. Not a flashy, high end place, but rather a very comfortable neighborhood bar and grill, complimented with the uber friendly staff and very competent barkeep. Very chill atmosphere. We sat in the back, outdoors area and ordered from the food truck. I enjoyed my packed on nachos and savored every bite. My sister had the brisket grilled cheese and didn't like it so we ended up just sharing the nachos as it's a big size pile. I'll be back for my piled high nachos again. read more

I asked about their spicy margarita, my favorite, and the bartender shared that they use Brushfire Farms glaze to make them.
