A friend of mine posted a picture of this fried chicken on his social media, and I immediately made plans to try them for myself! The ambience is clean, spread out, and slightly dimmed towards the back, but it gives a nice welcoming vibe. They have a really good hip-hop and R&B playlist, which gives a fun experience. The service is excellent, everyone beginning to end was super nice and helpful. Our server did a great job at explaining the menu and what to expect. We got the original fried chicken, which is basically a chicken cut up into pieces so you get a little bit of everything of a whole chicken. This recipe is still crispy, we got the honey soy sauce on the side, and that sauce is amazing! We ended up ordering more. We also got the crispy wings, those are double fried and definitely have lots of crisp! Every piece was hot and fresh, very juicy and a perfect seasoning. We also ordered some fries that had a powdered cheese on them and the guy did let us know it was a sweet cheese, but I was definitely not expecting that much sweet. Honestly they were not my favorite, it's very strange to have a sweet powdered cheese on french fries. I was not a fan, but my husband liked them. And lastly, is the slaw and the pickled radish that they bring out, I liked those very much and they gave a perfect balance and touch of acid against the wings and the richness of the sauce. The location isn't something you immediately see off the road, it's right in the corner of a strip mall off of De Zavala. Definitely worth the trip, these wings and this chicken were 10 out of 10!
First time to this restaurant and WOW so delicious. This place is like a hidden gem in San Antonio. I had the crispy wings with the soy & smoky mayo sauces. Along with the peli shaken fries. The cabbage salad is complimentary and the picked Dikon. Wings were perfectly fried. Our waitress Deya was so sweet and helpful. Restrooms were clean and there's a bonus hand washing station. Next time I'm in town I'll be back!!!
Wanted to try something new Food was good service was great The only reason I didn't give a five star was the chicken strips were dark meat instead of chicken breast I would go back
All around solid and new experience eating fried chicken. It's safe to say that I would probably eat fried chicken more frequently if it was prepared in the Pelicana fashion. I could never eat this much Popeye's or KFC without feeling sick afterwards, and I nearly finished a whole chicken to myself. Cuisine: 4/5. Ban-Ban was light and flavorful with the sauce. Beverages: They have beer, which beautifully compliments the fried chicken experience. Service: Super friendly. Super Texas. Much respect. Ambiance: Chill. Nothing to dislike. Say less.
Once again, I cannot say no of thr calling of delicious Pelicana chicken. They have yet to be touched! The crispy, juicy chicken takes the cake!
If you are coming here for a limited time like a lunch, please consider the following: there is A LOT of standing around and not getting served. I have had times where I was sitting for a 20 minutes on my hour lunch before my order was even taken. But once served, everything does come out rather quick. The chicken is amazing. I always get the boneless chicken with sauce on the side because I fear the chicken getting soggy from the sauce. It's always made fresh to order (or so I think), so it can take time to come out, but usually not long. I also have the kimchi fried rice from time to time, and that is also delicious, but the chicken hits the spot! The cheeseballs, although insanely expensive, are nice, crispy, and soft all at once. Even the basic fries are crunchy and not the soggy type. There are usually TVs playing some kind of KPOP. I mean, it is a Korean fried chicken spot, so that's expected. I do wish there was something more sportsbar-like though. Maybe a game or two. It's relatively quiet during lunch, with just some background murmur. During dinner, it can be loud if you are sensitive to that. If you want to stop in for lunch and not on a time crunch, Pelicana is the way to go!
I love Korean fried chicken but the chicken flavors here were no good. The chicken itself was fried well. The sauces were all so sweet. We had original. Garlic. Snowing cheese. I prefer the flavors bonchon has to offer. Also the service was not good. The restaurant was nice and clean
I absolutely enjoyed this place, it was super worth the hype and price. It's perhaps some of the most crispy chicken I've had in a while! I was so amazed at the batter, I was stunned lol. I had went late and yes it took about 15-20mins for the food to come out, but hey it was hot AND fresh, so I couldn't complain at all. The staff were amazing and helpful of the menu. The interior with the bar was a nice set up, an industrial modern set up, but not overdoing, I enjoyed it.
Was craving fried chicken so wifey found us this place to try. Hadn't been back since it was a Mexican restaurant. Love how they've changed the decor. Food: 4/5 - We got the 1/2 chicken with sauces on the side to try. We got 3 sauces ( original, honey mustard and a hot and spicy). Also ordered a kimchi spam fried. Crispy chicken, delicious rice. Generous portions! Ambience: 4/5 - modern and eclectic decor which we loved. Comfy seating though tables are close. Service: 5:5 - Annie (sp?) was patient and guided us expertly through the menu and how to order and was attentive! Definitely will be back!
Always a great experience. Food, service and atmosphere are always on point. My favorite fried chicken in san antonio. You definitely need to try this place. I give this place 5 jalapeños out of 5
Earlier this week, we went to @pelicana_sa for dinner. Great chicken being offered for a year and a half now. Juan was our attentive server. We had the Original Fried Chicken with signature sauce (half order) and Original Fried Wings with honey soy sauce. 3 orders of pickled radish came with our order. Yum! I preferred the honey soy sauce because of the sweetness. We also had an order of Onion Rings. Perfectly crispy. We had extra wings to take home. Tummies happy! If you haven't tried, you should check them out!
Chicken was really good and crispy. We got the smokey hot chicken and it wasn't my favorite flavor but there were many options so I would probably try a different one next time. I also thought the fries were alright I didn't like the garlic sauce on top of it. They accidentally made extra cookie balls and gave us it for free which was really nice and it was really yummy. The service was great and it's open late and there was plenty of seating inside.

I went to eat here on Friday after having this joint bookmarked for ages! It's taken me a few days to really decide where I'd go with this review. I was torn between three and four stars. I decided on the fourth star because I didn't feel it right deducting a second star just because I may have made the wrong decision on a sauce. I got here right about the time they opened. Seated right away and read a book while awaiting a friend to join. Ultimately, my friend stood me up. I was waited on at perfect intervals during my waiting period. This place is nicer inside than you'd expect just seeing it from the outside. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. I ordered the Banban and opted for the Smokey Mayo. I also ordered the white garlic fries, which I found bland, which was surprising given the amount of sauce. Fries came out first. I would have preferred the fries come out with the wings, but the wings took FOREVER. I literally finished my fries before the wings arrived. I think the waitstaff knew it took too long given the apology received when the food arrived. Wouldn't do the Smokey mayo again I just didn't like it. Borderline too spicy (listen to the on the menu) for me. The original was okay. As a matter of fact, I think I enjoyed the wings more as leftovers than I did in the restaurant. Overall: it's okay; I'm glad I tried it. I might go back if a friend wanted to try it. I found the $45 tab kinda high for just me. And to the young employee who decided to do her eye makeup while standing behind in the middle is the restaurant but behind the register, I couldn't care less, but some people might find it unprofessional. I've had Korean fried chicken done really well so I had an idea and kind of high expectations of this place. IRS near my job and on one of my routes home do I decided to place a to go order and try them out. I purchased the 9 piece crispy chicken wings, onion rings and pork dumplings (you won't find the dumplings on those delivery apps). The dumplings were good. The onion rings were decent - nice & crispy. I didn't purchase any sauce with my wings. I found the wings to be crispy and quite good. My only gripe is, I wish they would fry the flats a little harder. The drums were perfectly fried. My second trip, I tried the fries and they were ok. Overall, I liked the place and will definitely be returning. read more

TLDR: The fried chicken wings here are EPIC. Do yourself a favor and try them. First impressions upon walking in are very pleasant: this establishment is clean and well-maintained, with around two dozen tables including bar-style seating. Service is pleasant and attentive. In a nutshell, the crispy fried wings are among the best I've had. The crunch, the size and the flavor of the chicken under the breading is superb. Also worth your time to try the fried dumplings, try them with the house version of a sweet n' sour sauce. This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. I was surprised to hear that it served South Korean chicken instead of Mexican food. So glad my daughter suggested this place for lunch. The cashier was so friendly and explained to us their menu and popular items after I told her that it's our first time there. We decided to order regular and crispy chicken wings with honey soy and signature sauces to go. They were good and came with packages of pickled radishes. We highly recommend this place and will go back to try their other menu items. read more

I went to Pelicana when they very first opened. It was during Covid long line and you name it! I did not like it at that time! Mainly I believe I got the thick crust on the chicken. This time I had visitors from out of town and we were in the area and hungry. I decided to give it another shot. Per my visitors (from Manhattan) it was not good and I do not blame them with all the international options they have. But for San Antonio standards I enjoyed it more this time around. I personally love fried chicken We got the fried rice too... it was lacking some flavor. This isn't my favorite place to get fried chicken but it can do the trick when craving it read more
A few years back, we walked into the most unassuming joint in Seoul, Korea to grab a bite to eat and left after experiencing the most epic fried chicken meal of our travels. Growing up in the south, that is saying something. Ever since that meal, I've been chasing that elusive flavor back here in the States and Pelicana Chicken was next on the list to give it a try. Although this is a sit down restaurant, it has more a fast food feel to it. Staff were friendly, and quick to fill up drinks, so that was encouraging. The inside is clean, has a nice bar and seems to draw in a young crowd to dine. The Crispy Banban chicken tossed in the signature sauce was the easy choice. Double fried batter gave the chicken that extra crunchy texture we were looking for. Added a honey sauce to mix it up a bit and was not disappointed. The cheese corn as a side was delicious and the right choice. Overall, it was worth the visit and we will come back to try some other flavors, but it did fall short of my high fried chicken expectations. read more
Great flavor, we had the spicy mayo half chicken, and the Honey Soy Wings with the Ddukbokki. They also place a shareable portion of coleslaw on your table. The service was perfect, there was nothing we needed and our server answered all of our questions. The ambiance is laid back and casual. First time trying korean chicken and I was blown away, but all the sides were actually my favorite. The cheese balls were gooey, the rose ttoeboki was fishy yet creamy and yummy, the gungjang tasted like orange chicken with satisfyingly chewy rice cakes. Overall amazing food that was served fast and fresh. Service was outstanding, annie kept our drinks filled and all our needs accommodated. this was our first time here and we felt very welcomed. read more
I got the 1/2 pound basket of wings with their house special sauce! I ordered it on Grub Hub, my order was ready in a timely manner. I also got fried dough twist! These were so yummy! They are like churros and mochi combined. The chicken was really flavorful and juicy. The sauce is sweet, salty, and a little spicy. I saw some reviews that recommended you get the sauce on the side if you don't plan on eating it right away or you are picking up the order. On the Grub hub app, putting the sauce on the side cost $2. I don't know why there is an extra charge. I didn't get the sauce on the side. It wasn't too soggy, even though we ate the order around 30 minutes after it was ready. I am excited to try their other sauces! read more

We normally go to the Pelicana to go on Potranco but this one was closer to where I was that day. Near UTSA. They cook it fresh and I took mine to go. I ordered 16 wings and a side of sweet potatoes. It was a wait but they make them fresh. I also had some pickled daikon too. read more
Service was fast and very nice with giving us extra cabbage salad and sauce to take home. We got the BanBan chicken with half sauced with Garlic and ordered the Smoky Mayo sauce on the side. As with all Korean food, be warned that it is all sweet. The Garlic was almost too sweet but the Smoky Mayo was great. Chicken was well cut and very nicely fried with a great crunch. However, I usually love Korean pickled radish and they were out of it unfortunately, on the Sunday noontime we went. read more

Wanted some wings and the place we wanted to go to (AB) was packed, and that's when I remembered the good things I'd been hearing about Pelicana! So we drove a little further and checked them out. So good!! The place wasn't very busy but it was nice, bright , and clean. We were promptly seated and our drink order was taken. We decided to get 2 sets of 9 wings: one original hot and spicy and one crispy honey soy. Our server warned that the spicy would numb the lips and tongue- he was right! They were spicy but flavorful. The honey soy was not spicy but so crispy and delicious that they were hard to put down! Would definitely get both of those again. We also started with the pork dumplings and a free cabbage salad (like coleslaw but way more fun!) and each of those were really tasty, too. They also have a bar inside, but nobody was sitting there. I do think if they wanted to do a little more business they might want to look into playing some sports on the TVs game days. They're not far from UTSA and I am sure they would draw more people in for sports on occasion than watching Spectrum News and K-Pop. But if you want great wings, check them out! Don't forget they have a handwashing station so cleanup is easy, too! read more

Everything we ordered was delicious. The menu was a bit confusing and I was surprised they don't offer sauce half half option unless you're getting the larger amount of wings. But the server we had was kind enough to explain the different chicken options. We ended up getting crispy wings with two sauces on the side so we could try the different flavors. The cheese balls were salty on the outside and sweet on the inside, love it! The restaurant is decorated for Halloween which we enjoyed! I think if the price of sauce in the side wasn't $2 each then we would have given it a 5 stars. But besides that everything else was great definitely worth a try. read more
Last Sunday at around 3:30 PM, I finally visited Pelicana Chicken to see if it lived up to the hype. The establishment is clean and well-maintained, with most tables situated toward the back. There's potential to add more seating near the front, as two suspended lights suggest space for additional tables. Upon entering, there's no clear signage instructing guests to sign in for the waitlist. Fortunately, a vigilant young lady promptly guided us to do so. She and another young Asian woman were attentive and welcoming. In contrast, our server, Juan (as per our receipt), was formal but lacked warmth and attentiveness. When Juan first approached, we requested water with minimal ice and asked for more time to check the menu. He returned to take our orders and suggested a side of rice, which my cousin accepted. However, when our food arrived, the rice was missing. Juan informed us it would take an additional 15 minutes and offered to remove it from our bill if we couldn't wait. My cousin chose to forgo the rice. But then my cousin really wanted to enjoy his chicken with rice so after a while longer after several attempts to get Juan's attention, another young lady server approached us and we told her if the rice is ready yet. Juan came and said it wasn't even 15 minutes yet. But oddly, shortly after this interaction, a young lady brought a bowl of steaming rice to our table. This inconsistency was puzzling, and the rice's quality was subpar--dry and possibly reheated. The fried chicken itself was good but not exceptional, especially compared to the flavorful Korean fried chicken we're accustomed to from our time in NY/NJ. Our takeout order for family was poorly packaged; soy sauce leaked, making the bag sticky. For the prices at Pelicana Chicken, we expected higher quality and better service. The chicken wasn't as crispy as anticipated for double-fried, though the original sauce and smoked mayo on the side were tasty. The ambiance and cleanliness, including the restroom, are commendable. However, a sink in the hallway leading to the restroom would be beneficial for diners to wash sticky fingers, given the single-occupancy bathroom. Overall, while the environment is pleasant, the impersonal service from Juan and the average food quality don't justify the higher prices. I'm hesitant to return based on this experience. If and only if ever we visited again, I hope we don't get Juan as our waiter. read more

The setting was pretty intimate nice temperature. Family/ or date friendly. My coworker has been raving about this place so I wanted to give them a try. The service was not bad. The staff were friendly. Let's get into the food! The fries w the cheese - the fries were crispy I was not too fond of the cheese but I wanted to give it a try. I should have gotten the cheese on the side. The lunch special wings w a drink $13 I think the wings were pretty good. I had the signature wings very flavorful and the portions on the wings were decent. read more

I just moved to San Antonio from Los Angeles, specifically from Koreatown. I've been to many Korean chicken places and Pelicana took me home. I ordered the Ddukbokki, Sweet Potato Fries, Honey Soy and Garlic Crispy Fried Wing w/ Sauce. The Ddukbokki is dangerously spicy as it should. The Sweet Potato Fries are good, nothing special. The Crispy Fried Wings w/ Sauce w/ crunchy, juicy and flavorful. Really fresh foods and their pickled radish doesn't have an after taste. Will definitely order here again! read more
Dined in for lunch on a Monday and enjoyed every bit of it! We're a family of 6 with two little kids and were seated pretty quickly. Got the soy banban chicken and it was already crispy enough for me! Perfect blend with the pickled radish. Enjoyed the Pell Shaken Fries as well, it's like cheese and sour cream, and it was enough flavor to coat the fries. We knew the rice cakes were going to be too spicy for us, but my husband still enjoyed the flavor. read more
