It reminded me of my two favorite beer spots which are on the opposite sides of the country - great vibe, casual cool decor and a great crowd of beer lovers! This was the 2nd Big Hops I've been to and while it's larger than the first there's something kind of lost when the space is 4X bigger. Sure, there's plenty of activities: (pool, video games) but there's something missing when there are that many more tables and more bar space. Had I visited this location first I think I would rate it higher, but the Huebner location had a more cozy, local watering hole type vibe. I liked the depth of beer on taps but it doesn't substitute having everyone in the place singing 'Happy Birthday' to the bartender; still a great, fun place but a little more distant and that makes a big difference when you're sipping beer in a new city. read more

I'm a big fan of big hops. They have a great selection of beer and good price points. They will have a couple specials to empty the tap. The bartenders are always great. The bathroom is cute and clean. There's pool tables and a food truck out back. I don't recommend the pizza machine inside though. read more

This place is the bomb.com! Like the other three locations, they are clean, the staff is friendly, VERY knowledgeable and PASSIONATE about their beer selection. Plenty of local and out of state micro brews available here. Don't expect to find any Bud or Miller products. Mike served us today and after I ordered my beer, he said "if you like that one, you might like this one. It's a bit different but..." and then he continued to describe the flavor of the beer and gave me a free sample. I was really impressed by the interaction and the beer knowledge he had. It looks like they have 33 beers on tap and they also have a good selection of canned beers. A lot of their draft beers can't be found in local stores but fear not; you can purchase a growler from them (or bring your own) and bring it back for refills of whatever they have on tap. Support this local business and get here fast - you will thank me for it later! If this location isn't near you, find one of the other three locations. read more

Your typical amazing Big Hops, on steroids. This is my first visit to the Bitters location and this place is super dope. I am calling it the flagship tap room. This is one of the bigger locations, that I know of. They have a ton of craft beers on tap. The service is friendly as I come to know Big Hops to have. Not only friendly but knowledgeable. This location has a pool table and arcade games. Lots of space to enjoy your party and the music. Big Hops does not serve food but there is plenty of food options around. They allow you to bring outside food in. If you don't want to bring food in they serve Rico's products for bar snacks. read more

Its great for small and bigger crowds and most importantly for all walks of life. The staff is always very knowledgeable and super friendly. They have games, good music and TV's there to be able to watch your favorite team on game nights too. Yep. Still awesome. This is such a great place that celebrates all walks of life. My friend invited me over to enjoy the Smash Bros tournament again, and it was a lot of fun. I didn't imbibe alcohol this time around, but everyone's beers looked delish. The bar is still kept very clean, and everyone participating in the tournament shows great sportsmanship. There's a table closer to the door who also hangs out here week after week, and they spend hours drawing and making art. There's enough space to accommodate lots of groups of folks, even an outdoor patio for more legroom (though the interior itself is definitely roomy) I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, but a food truck parked out back and provided some Asian eats for hungry gamers and artists alike. I love that with all the BH you can bring in food, as I brought my dinner from Chipotle earlier that evening. Pretty awesome place to just go relax and have a beer! They seem to have awesome events (went to the May the 4th be with you event and got a beer with a souvenir cup for only $7.50!). They have a really good variety of craft beer as well as games to keep you entertained. They have a patio outside and I believe they have a food truck on certain days. My team and I had a great experience at Big Hops. The Bar tenders were patient and willing to talk / give you samples to try and the selection is great. This place is farther away from my normal spot, which is Big Hops on Huebner, but not by much. What draws me to the Huebner location is the proximity to my work and the ability to hide there whilst traffic does its thing outside with me not in it, but merrily sippin' IPAs instead. But what draws me to the Bitters location is far more innate for me. Sure, they have much of the same beer and deals, but here they have SMASH BROS. If there's one thing I love in tandem with beer, it's video games, and especially THIS video game. I've been an avid player of Smash Brothers since its inception on the Nintendo 64. Needless to say, me and my brother have found a spot to be every Wednesday night from now until the sun consumes the earth. For those not into video games, they always have sports up on the many TVs and they have things like: darts, pool, and even a LIBRARY for nerds! (me). The latter had me the most excited, because it's one of those DIY libraries where people just contribute willy-nilly and I think that's rad. We stumbled into Big Hops on a quiet Saturday evening after a wild shopping spree at Hobby Lobby. The place is pretty huge actually! Wall to wall chalkboard menus displayed their beer selection and the upcoming events. There's a back smoking section past the pool table. The place had quiet a few picnic tables and ample bar seats. You can tell this establishment makes a major name for itself selling tshirts, stickers and growlers in several different sizes. We settled on the 64 oz growler which holds 4 pints I believe. Service was a little off to me. The server kept asking what I wanted and what was I having, so when I said "I'll just have some water", I was a little surprised when she handed me a glass and said "serve yourself over there" and pointed to the water jug. She became super friendly after I told her I was on a detox though. This place comes prepared with a board game library. We found boggle in the mix. I love that game to pieces so we played a few rounds before settling on a beer to fill the growler and headed home. This place use to be New Orleans Bar. I always loved Big Hops, with their always endless selection of craft beers (not sure if that is good or bad for my liver, haha). The service is always top notch and the bartenders are knowledgeable. They also have a outside patio which is great when weather is nice. There are plenty tvs inside to catch a game. A bigger and better addition to the Big Hops family. My friend and I came here on opening night to check it out, plus it is considerably closer to us than the Broadway location was. It's nestled in the Embassy Oaks shopping center with plenty of parking! When you walk in, you know you're at a Big Hops, with the metal siding and picnic tables. The notable difference is the addition of a dartboard and pool table. Since they had just opened, they didn't have any special taps, just your standards from local and national breweries. Which was understandable and we were just excited to check out the new space. Mike and Erik were behind the bar and were incredibly friendly and recommended some great beers to try. All the patrons were friendly and your usual crowd you would find at a Big Hops. The only downside I could find was the lack of a true patio. Smokers could hang outside but the tables were small and it could get crowded quick. Overall, this was a great move for Big Hops. Not only did they improve their parking and occupancy situations, they kept the vibe they're known for. An added bonus for all, the proximity of Los Robertos which is within walking distance and is 24 hours! I can't wait to come back and drink some more beers. read more

When one door closes another one opens. In the case of Big Hops Bitters that door opens bigger, and automatically (bad joke sorry). When Big Hops left their original, Broadway, location and moved to 281 and Bitters they not only opened a new spot to fill a growler but they've improved too. First off, this place is humongous, throw in a pool table ($1/game), an electronic dart board and a whole lotta t.v's and you have more than just a place to fill your growlers. This is a beer bar. Sure you can get the growler filled still, but why would you not belly up and sample some of the 32 taps? Or have a pint or 2? Oh, or the bottle selection? You get the point.
