Friendly staff great beer selection. The place is fairly quiet when I've come here. There are limited televisions.

Big Hops - Shaenfield - Beer Bar Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

What a wonderful hidden gem of a business! This is right off Shaenfield and 1604 and totally worth coming by! There are 4 picnic tables outside and about 6-8 tables inside plus a bar top so it's a small little place, but totally worth the trip. We were greeted right away by a kind bartender that offered me a few samples since I wasn't sure if I wanted a kolsch or Hefeweizen. I ended up with 3 samples and was sold the second I tried all three - there was no wrong choice on that end. I'm not a hoppy beer person or even much more than a Pilsner drinker .. y'all can keep the stouts, IPA and pale ale beers :) The selection was pretty large and there are a couple of local beers available as well which was awesome since I love to support local businesses. They have a few posters for trivia and "singo" near the door so it seems like they have great ways to get involved and draw customers in to the store. The only downfall is that they don't have snacks, BUT there's a pizza place next door and Big Hops allow outside food in so the temptation to order a pizza and drink beer here all night is definitely there! We will definitely be back - I can't wait to bring my sister in law! read more

Big Hops - Shaenfield - two glasses of beer - Beer Bar Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

If this place ever closed, I would quite literally cry. We're here about once a week and the beers are consistently changing, which we love. They always have the best selection of IPAs on tap. Shout out to Brad - he's so chill and at this point knows what we like. He always gives us the best recommendations and samples to help us narrow down our choices. They have different events during the week and allow outside food, and your pups, too! read more

We stopped in for a couple of drinks to check it out, and it's a really cool little spot. They have a huge selection of beers you can order by the glass or get a growler fill to go. The person working was super helpful and knowledgeable about beer. read more

One of my favorite craft beer spots in San Antonio. The rotation of taps makes it fun to experience. You may have the same beer twice but you may not. Always something new to try in a calm chill environment. The variety of TVs keep it interesting and the patio is great during the summer. read more

I walked in a couple days ago for the first time wasn't too familiar with the menu and I had no one who approached me to assist me or ask if I had any questions or offered to serve me. I stood by the bar for about five minutes. nobody attended to me I felt awkward standing there so I left. read more

We were new to SA and found Big Hops during Covid. It was one of the things that saved us! The personnel are always helpful and nice and we always find some wonderful hoppy brew that is new to us. Great vibe! read more

Stopped by for a beer while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. They have a good selection of beer and even have cider and mead. If you're in need of a snack, they sell pretzels and popcorn. It looks like they have happy hour and on Mondays happy hour is all day. The place has inside and outside seating. Parking is shared with the other businesses, but there's plenty. read more

We've been to all the SA Big Hops locations, and this one was great too. It's probably the cleanest/nicest of the group. Good size, too. Went on a Saturday afternoon, and it was slightly busy but not crowded. A variety of people in attendance; even a couple of families with kids at that time of day. Good beer selection; great that it was different than the Big Hops Bitters' tap wall. Definitely worth the visit. read more

It's located in the middle of shopping center with outside and inside seating. The bartender was very helpful in offering up suggestions and there was large selection of craft beers from many Texas breweries. read more

A fun little place to catch a football game. Food choices are not that good. The draft beer is worth it. I had the Ranger Creek coffee stout which was wonderful. read more

The one thing that really stood out when we walked in is how clean this place was. The beer selection was good however I felt like the bar tender could have done a better job guiding us. One beer we ordered was a stout but crazy sweet (so much so that we didn't finish). That's something that really should be mentioned since it's not something you'd expect. They have some typical snacks you can purchase and seem to have a friendship with Stouts next door. We came here on a Saturday night and it was very chill. Maybe 4 other customers at most. Decent music and plenty of TVs with sports if that's your thing. read more

This place is awesome! They allow you to bring in your own food. They have a large selection of beers and a few cans of wine. The atmosphere is very relaxing, it has a feel of of a sports bar. The staff is very nice as well. read more

Big Hops across SA are great but this one is our favorite. Helpful staff, great beer - what could be better? Though the music tends to be a little loud to have conversation. They have events most every day too - happy hour, trivia night, etc. No food here but they are totally cool with bringing in food to enjoy with more than 30 seasonal taps. Lots of TVs too and outdoor seating for those rare perfect SA days. Board games and cards too. Overall great place! read more

Big Hops - Shaenfield - Beer Bar Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

My friend and I decided to check out Big Hoops on Shanefield. Their location is quaint, and very welcoming. They have 4 other locations in San Antonio. I thought they been open for a while now, however this was their 3rd day of being open. As a celebratory post opening, we offer chocolate cake. Such a nice detail. We the only customers in there, but I bet once word gets out it will be very busy. Daniel and Maryla (?) were exceptional & great customer service!!! We will definitely be back because of them. I had a Austin Eastcider Blood Orange & my friend stuck to the IPA route. Everything was reasonable priced, and in the future they are supposed weekly specials. Bring your growlers to get filled here. They also sell crowler's as well. read more

Quiet but great beer options if you are one of those loner beer drinkers such as I sometimes..but who isn't right..right? This is one of those places you can take an edition of the current and read it with a tall pint of beer. There beer options are endless, they have an app, they scroll across a TV, there is a TV. When I went I saw a dog competition, enjoyed my beer which was the SA Beer Weep 8 hop beer and talked to my boyfriend about how awesome this place was. Great service! read more

I am one of those people who sometimes post a disappointment with a restaurant but, I always post when I'm very satisfied and impressed. Such is the case with Big Hops on Shaenfield. What an awesome little bar. We have gone there several times on Weds. night for trivia and always enjoy it. The beers are not necessarily my type as they are more IPA style but, the super nice bartenders always try to find one I will like, with a smile). We are always treated as if we matter, and they enjoy serving people. No food is served there but you can bring food in. Good pizza next door is a yummy option. Colby, the trivia host is also a cool guy and makes the game fun. Check it out!` read more

Firts time on this location, the beer was good, service wasn't the best my husband went to this place to have some to go beer but after serving the beer on each bottle the lady claimed the bottles were 32 oz when the bottles are 16 oz, I have the box and everything that proofs the I'm right even though because they were already served they came on $126 dlls!!! read more

This is my favorite location out of all the Big Hop locations, not just because it's super close to my house but the guest service is phenomenal! Not only are the beer connoisseur knowledgeable but the have a great sense of humor and easy going. I never feel rushed and they give great descriptions of the brews. I chose their flight which is $9 for 4 options. I chose mostly IPAs but not sure what the exact ones I tried but everything was so good and I've been several times after this they always have opportunities to grab a free glassware with purchase of beer of course! The location is so convenient and I love their beer options. I will be going here any chance I get to get my IPA fix and to try some new options! read more

This location is fairly small. It is Located in a shopping center. Nice draft beer selection and canned beers. Want some food? you can order pizza from the place next door. Small front patio with 4 picnic tables. We just want to check out this new location. It's not close to home so I'll keep driving out to the Huebner location but if it's close to you and you are looking for a neighborhood bar stop by and check it out. read more

Big Hops is my favorite place for craft beer on this side of town. Marlyna and Joe are exactly the type of people that you love to have serving you beer. We love the selection they have. The atmosphere and concept are awesome as well. Unfortunately the female server is extremely rude and unwelcoming. I'm not really sure what her problem is but customer service is her job and she is seriously lacking. I'm not sure if it's cuz I had use my military ID (didn't have my license) or its because I am a female but wow. I've never had worse service than this in my entire life. Hopefully next time we come there is someone else because I honestly feel degraded. read more

Beer choices=okay (standard "me too" styles and too many damn IPAs). Question from a Colorado beer dude who works in beer industry....who picks these beers? Decent rotating beer list. They also allow for half pours so you dont have to get 10oz of a 10% beer, back to back. They also allow outside food to be brought in or delivered. The only reason not 5 stars is with only one person working, the wait can get a bit long. read more
