The Corner Craft Beer - Wings, loaded fries, cider - Beer Bar Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

The Corner Craft Beer and Growler Center... I've been here twice before, and both times I left way more tipsy than I planned lol. What started as chill nights quickly turned into something wild, so don't let the laid back vibe fool you as anything can happen here. This is my third visit, and tonight they've got live music, which makes it even better. It has that neighborhood bar feel where everyone seems to know each other, and the bartenders have always been awesome. My boyfriend's big on craft beer, and I love that they make me a sweet, girly drink for me too. I haven't tried the food yet, but it looks good. They've got darts, pool, a few electronic game machines, and about three TVs. It's definitely more of a place to hang out and talk than a sports bar. Only downside: the bathroom situation. There's just one stall, which isn't ideal if you're here for a while. That said, it's usually clean, and they stock the ladies' room with necessities which is a thoughtful touch for a smaller bar. read more

Mmm, I don't usually give such low reviews as I understand businesses are typically people's livelihoods but this place just seemed like they stopped caring. The service was good but my bartender wasn't too knowledgeable with beer or wasn't really able to recommend anything. Also, a few of the gals in our group got dirty glassware. I was told that there is a new owner so they are trying to work on the food situation, they currently don't have any and some of the stools and chairs are in really bad shape. The tables are also super uneven. Sadly, a few of the beers tasted terrible, like the taps were not cleaned out. I hope this place is turned around. read more

Today was our first time at the Growler Center. It was an immediate yes from the start. From the beers to the food, everything was amazing. Now here's the fun part. The pros: the chips and queso were hot upon arrival. The man serving the beers was very knowledgable. He knew about the different types and styles of beer. I had the buffalo chicken pizza and my girlfriend had the chefs pizza. BY FAR THE BEST PIZZA WE HAVE EVER HAD. The crust was crunchy but the inside was soft. Everything was fresh. He was honest about the flights and what type of beer was available. It was more of a "regular" crowd. Which isn't a bad thing, it made you feel like family. Restrooms are clean and single stall(at least the mens room). They are pet friendly, have an outside patio. Now for the Cons: The beers were written on a chalk board(which isn't the issue) although, he didn't have them marked out or deleted for which beers were out. But here comes the kicker. He knew off the top of his head that they were out. So take that as you will. But all in all, this place is a hidden gem and needs to be checked out. From the service to the food. I give it a solid 5/5. read more

I saw an advertisement on Facebook for an event tonight featuring a Beer and Churro pairing. I marked myself down as interested but, let's be real, I had no intention of going. A friend of mine texted me earlier in the day asking if I wanted to meet up with her there, and since I got paid, I said sure. I'm so glad I went. The Corner is out of my way, maybe a 15-20 minute drive or so, but in the end it was so worth it. I ordered the Barrel Bourbon Stout and it was UHMAZING, and then I got a flight of 4 churros paired with 4 beers. It honestly felt like a mini Yelp Experience. In addition to a FREE pint glass, I got to enjoy the following: Banana Foster Churro with a Weisstheimer - this was incredibly delicious and a strong start to the flight. The hint of banana in the beer paired beautifully with the banana foster churro. Ranked #1 (#1 for Churro, #2 for Beer) Tajin & Chamoy Churro with a Haterade - Not my cup of tea, but I can see how this would be a big hit in San Antonio. The transition of Weisstheimer to Haterade led to a Froot Loops aftertaste. Probably ranked #3 out of the 4. Bacon & Onion Jam with a Hopston IPA - Eugh, just.. not my favorite at all. The bacon jam was a tad salty and jarring with the sweetness of the churro, and I'm just not a fan of IPAs in general. 4th place. Coffee Chocolate with a Rocket Fuel Porter - The porter was DELICIOUS. Best beer I had of the night. The churro was yummy, too, but it was not as mindblowing as the Banana Foster. The staff is awesome, and I got to chat with one of the owners a bit and learn about their monthly beerfests the last Friday of each month. I'm definitely a fan of this place! The atmosphere is SO chill and laid back, there's foosball, fantastic beer selection, you name it. If you like beer, this is a spot for you. read more

Came here when it initially opened and it was a small place with no outside seating. I pass by it daily and had not stopped again until today for an event. I always wondered how they fit so many people in here on weekend nights. Well, come to find out, they have expanded and now it's roomy with plenty of seating. They have a dart board and games. The beer selection is pretty good. They flights available. For those that don't drink beer, there's mimosas, wine and mead. Check out their Facebook page. We went on a Saturday afternoon and liked the great beer selection. At that time of day, the place was fairly quiet, which was fine. The nice young woman behind the bar kept up the chalkboard tap list, which helped with the selections. Cheers! read more

Not bad. They got a decent selection of brews. Young staff. It was active the Friday night my wife and I went on date night. They had an acoustic guitar player playing covers. Finally came in to try this place after reading all the good reviews. The location is close to my house and so I made the short drive there since I had no plans and was in the mood for a brew. As I walk in I noticed the place was really clean with a small cozy feel to it with a nouveau retro decor. They were playing 90s hip hop music in the background and that was fine with me as I grew up listening to that. There were only six other people inside so I took a seat at the bar and shortly Dave the bartender came over and asked if I had been here before to which I replied no. Dave proceeded to give me the run down on what was on tap and how to order. He asked what I normally drink and so I let him know I like dark lagers like Shiner Bock or Negra Modelo but that I was open to experimenting. He said that was a good thing as he was out of those types of beers but had some recommendations for me so off we go. First up, #15, the 5 Star Octoberfest. This was a lighter beer but was refreshing with a good aftertaste. Next up, #29, the Guadalupe Scotch Ale. This was a dark beer with complex flavor profile that turned out to be my favorite of the night. Lastly, I finished up with #24, the Save the World Gladius Dubbel. This was another dark beer with a distinctive flavor profile and smooth aftertaste. Overall, I really liked the beer and vibe of the place. Dave was awesome, gave great recommendations and let me sample various other beers so I could try before I buy. The only reason I didn't give this place five stars is they advertise wine on the menu but when I inquired about a wine list Dave told me they only carry a few types and all from the same winery. Hopefully they look to expand their wine offerings in the future. Either way, I look forward to coming back and trying more of the beer menu. read more

I'm visiting from my home town Augusta. I wanted to find a place I could sit, chit chat and enjoy a beer with locals and not have loud obnoxious music. A "speak easy" if you will with a variety of beers and a comfortable environment; kinda like my favorite place in Augusta called "The Arsenal". This place is top shelf...simple to the point and low key. You can come in, have a huge selection of beers and chat it up while watching a good college football game. Music isnt loud and is background only. Come here to wind down and enjoy some time with your friends. Ask for Juan. He's knowledgeable. We missed his bday but he didn't mind. read more

Ursula! You're the sweetest server! My partner and I joined some friends here at this small neighborhood bar. Everyone inside from the staff to the patrons were extremely nice. We walked in, due to the limited tables there was no where to sit but these 3 kind ladies gave up their table for us. Ursula, our server, did our best to accommodate us since I'm not a huge beer fan and have me a great red wine! They have a great beer selection and the food is really great too. We had the sausage pizza, Buffalo chicken pizza, and the boneless wings and all were amazing so props to the chef! It's a great spot to have a quick drink and bite to eat and we will definitely be returning! Not often do you find a bar with that much engagement from the staff and patrons with so much positivity, I truly appreciated it! The only downsides I noticed were having to go up to the bar to order drinks and having to order food online through a QR code. The QR code was convenient in a way since you're able to pay but if your looking for a table service type of night this might not be the place for you. read more

There's a lot to like about this hidden pub. First and foremost, they have 29 craft beers on tap, many of which appear to be Texas beer. That's a good thing. Plus, the prices aren't bad at all. As I sit, they have the Spurs game on a smallish tv behind the bar. There's no AV system here, the sound is coming from the TV speakers which is alright because it's a Sunday afternoon and not crowded. I suspect if, like me, you enjoy hearing the color commentary of Sean Elliot's corny, biased take on the Spurs, during a crowded night, you'd be hard pressed to hear anything. Seating is nice. They have a decent sized bar and a few tables. The overall space is on the small side but I think they maximize it well. There is an outdoor patio area. As I sit, the owner is making some picnic tables. I imagine they'll be done just in time for spring/summer. That's a great idea, but the area is rather small. They have pub food which seems to just be whatever they can reheat without too much fuss. I think if you're going to offer some pub food, at least make it appetizing. Beef jerkey for $9?! I think he owner's a vet--and as a vet, I know how military folks like beef jerkey--but at a bar? Not really. Mozzarella sticks, fries, tater tots, or stuff like that would totally work better I think. My fav bar has a toaster oven and sells frozen pizza (Red Barron) for $6 a pizza. That's a 100% markup. I think with a little more forethought, the corner's owner could make easy money on food that drunk people would actually eat (i.e. Fried shit). All in all, I like this space. It's a bit out of the way which is unfortunate. The location isn't ideal as it's a bit far from 1604, 151, or 410. I live down the street so it works for me, but I suspect it might be a little too hidden to draw a crowd. I hope that the owner see's a ton of success and is able to branch out and open a larger place in a more accessible area because there is a lot to like here and he/she seems to have a vision. Plus, craft beer spots are sorely needed on the far west side. I dislike going to the medical center/huebner area for good beer. In short, if you live in the area (or even if you don't) and like good beer, you ought to check this place out. The atmosphere is really chill and the people seem cool. They have a board that says there is live music on Friday nights and I can't wait to check it out. (Just noticed they have pizza on their menu. I think the critique still stands: more variety & more crave-able appetizer menu!) read more

Where to start.... but if you don't wanna read .. it rocks! I was in town, and have never met a wily bunch of folks I can call long distance friends at a bar I thought I never would visit again in my life!? That being said from the patrons, to the tenders, to the bomb ass cook, or possibly the owners, this place is a blast waiting to be found. If you are in the mood for craft beer, a place to meet people (yeah we all have friends and don't need more, but you do here, cause you will Untap fun!), or simply a place to wet your tongue for your next journey, you will not be disappointed. Again, my experience may be unique to me, but can be felt far and wide from all the patrons who I still chat with! Cheers to you and to the Corner, and all the fun that will be had inside!! :) read more

My wife and I came here on a Friday evening. The staff was friendly and helpful. There's a great variety of beer. Many Texas beers. The pizza was phenomenal. They had plenty of both tall and short tables. All the seats inside were padded. That's much appreciated. There was plenty of room outside for sitting and hanging out. And a grassy area that looks like it can be used for games and stuff. We'll definitely be back. read more

Laughable. Was about on a Sunday and the food offerings looked good online so we thought we would give it a try. Stated it was open at 4pm. Got there at 4:05. Open sign was not illuminated but door was open so entered. Numerous beers were erased on the chalkboard. I ordered one of the only 2 IPAs available. It was out. I then ordered an Axis IPA. My girlfriend ordered a Mimosa. Bartender stated he didn't have any OJ. She said she would just take Brut Champagne. Guess what? You know don't you? Out. She ordered a PB Stout. I'm actually laughing at this point. I ask if we could order food. He states they have stopped serving food until they discuss how they want to do it going forward. An absolute disaster of a business. Oh, the beers? They tasted like the lines haven't been cleaned ever and were old and were dumped. No one else was in there and no one should ever be again. read more

It's been a while for me visiting some locations - went to Seaworld for the day and what a nice gem to find in San Antonio. After spending the whole day walking; there is nothing better than a cold brew. This is my type of place - small, cozy, modern with a touch of vintage and best of all laid back. Like most brewery/beer pubs; board games galore, so you can tease your friends while enjoying a great selection of beer from around the country. The place is in a little strip mall at the far end - besides the Verizon store. Ample amounts of place to sit and try their beer selection. Everything from Golden Ale's to Porters to Lagers. You can find anything for those picky drinkers: "I want something fruity, not too fruity - ect..." The bartender was super friendly and straight about their beers. There isn't much to eat - Eddy from The Greasy Spoon is there to cook some mean tasty fresh pulled pork quesadilla. VERY tasty!! Wish I had a small beer place like that here! Super clean bathrooms! read more

Loved the atmosphere! Food was delicious beer was cold and they had a huge variety! Definitely worth the visit.

I very much enjoyed this little spot given that the lady who assisted me (Ursula) was a sweetheart and beyond informative. This girl knows her beers so kudos to her. I was incredibly shocked at how this hidden little gem of a brew pub has missed my eye for so long. I think it's conveniently located for people that reside on this side of town. Getting good craft beer and at good prices is hard and this place offers just that. They have a unique selection of 30 beers , you're bound to find something that'll suit your palate. If you haven't stopped by here, do yourself a favor and give it a shot. You don't be disappointed. They also offer pretzels should you be in the mood for a little snack. Cheers! read more

The Corner is one of northwest SA's strongest offerings for those wanting a neighborly, "fresh[er] faced" beer hangout. Providing 30-some-odd brews, none of which any "typicals" (e.g. Coors, Miller, etc.), The Corner highlights current hits of the city's top breweries. From frothy darks to crisp pales to experimental taps, no patron can go unserved a perfect alternative to mainstream brands. These days, LOCAL's the name of the game, and the entire crew here is well versed and well meaning in terms of menu knowledgeability. Whether you're all-new to craft beer, or have been nicknamed a connoisseur, The Corner is unpretentious, lively and airy enough to make ALL parties feel right at home. Personally, it's become one of my go-to study/work places during the day, and kick-back spots once the sun sets; The Corner's quite a flexible space. Other notes: (1) Solid food options, (2) Rewards program available, (3) Community events and live music on a [bi-]weekly basis, (4) Growler service, (5) Decent front patio. Rating specifics (i.e. 1-5, low-high)... - Overall recommendation = 4.75 - Taste and quality = 4.75 - Variety = 5 - Price = 4.5 - Atmosphere = 4 - General service = 5 - Location = 5 read more

Cool new growler-filling station/pub in a brand new strip center right off Culebra & Tezel. Nice patio filled with shiny new picnic tables, and an impressive selection of taps for a place just getting off the ground (Stevens Point Whole Hog!! IF you're in the mood for the best pumpkin ale available locally. ..) Reasonable prices on flights and growler fills. Interior decor is cute - all black & white wallpaper and chrome fixtures, super high ceilings that make it feel large and airy - but reminds of Subway and makes me want a sammich. (New marketing partnership with Jersey Mikes just down the street, methinks??) I forgot to ask if you could bring food in, or if they fill personal growlers as opposed to just filling ones that you purchase there. .. guess that means more hoppy investigative trips are in order :) read more

the beer selection has been very disappointing since the change in ownership. I went in this evening expecting a range of niche beer, based on the prior selection, however what I found was Michelob Ultra, modelo, weathered souls, and other pedestrian beers that you'd find at a restaurant like Earl Abels.
